The Citigroup Foundation awarded Graham Windham an additional $100,000 grant to support the expansion of our literacy program for children across the Agency! Poul Jensen, Graham Windham President and CEO stated, “Graham Windham is extremely grateful for this additional generous grant from the Citigroup Foundation. We plan to use these funds along with Citigroup’s previous $50,000 grant to enhance the reading and literacy skills of all young children enrolled in Graham Windham programs and to train parents, child care providers, and foster parents to support their child’s literacy development.” TIGER FOUNDATION SUPPORTS PARENT-CHILD HOME PROGRAM Graham Windham gratefully acknowledges the first time, one-year renewable grant of $100,000 from the Tiger Foundation! Whereas: One of our city’s and nation’s oldest and most acclaimed child welfare agencies, Graham Windham Services to Families and Children has provided 200 years of vital service to the most vulnerable residents of New York City. Since its founding in lower Manhattan in 1806, this dynamic organization has evolved to meet the diverse needs of at-risk children, families, and communities. The group’s focus on literacy as its signature mission has helped ensure both personal and academic success for the 6,000 students who are currently benefiting from its services. GRAHAM WINDHAM RECOGNIZES BANK OF AMERICA FOR ITS TREMENDOUS SUPPORT OF $615,000! On September 19th, Graham Windham recognized Bank of America for its tremendous support of $615,000 for the Graham School Elementary School Library and Campus Reading Initiatives. Trustee Keith Winn, Bank of America’s Northeast Division Director of Premier Banking and Investments, his Boston team and Valerie Binder from the New York Office represented Bank of America. The ceremony included a recitation of a thankyou poem written by two Graham Elementary School students, Mariah Crespo and Stephanie Hernandez (pictured right) and the unveiling of a brass plaque with the following engraving:

Tiger Foundation Continued... the $400,000 grant that we received earlier this year from the Robin Hood Foundation to implement the national Parent-Child Home Program (PCHP), a homebased family-centered literacy program for toddlers. Graham Windham’s core belief is that the power of education, and in particular the power of literacy, is a primary force for individual and collective progress and achievement in American society. Poul Jensen, Graham Windham’s President and CEO said, “We are tremendously grateful for the Tiger Foundation’s partnership because the Parent-Child Home Program is absolutely vital to ensuring that our toddlers are prepared to enter school ready to learn, along side their peers.”
The Parent-Child Home Program allows Graham Windham staff to provide in-home educational guidance for 100 Bronx families, who receive foster care, prevention, and Early Head Start services at Graham Windham as well as qualified children from the Bronx Community. Each family enrolled in Graham Windham’s PCHP is assigned a Home Visitor, who visits the child and his or her family two times per week. During these sessions with the child and parent, or other primary caregiver, the Home Visitor models verbal interaction, reading and play activities. The Home Visitor also demonstrates how parents should use the books and toys, provided by Graham Windham, to cultivate language and emergent literacy skills that promote school readiness. During the two-year project, families will receive a library of children's books and a large collection of educationally stimulating toys. After decades of positive results, the National PCHP has proven to be one of the most effective means of promoting early literacy and education, family togetherness, prevention and

Graham Windham is proud to report that both of our summer Literacy Fairs were successful from A to Z! More than 500 participants attended the Brooklyn Literacy Fair on August 4th and 400 attended the Bronx Literacy Fair on August 11th. Over the course of the day children, their families, child care providers and Graham Windham program staff engaged in numerous literacy activities and events. Children and their families received free resources including a wide-range of various book titles, as well as literature on how to conduct literacy activities in-the-home and how to help children to achieve success in school.

Both events received wide community support and donations including food, books and other goods.
