Where Are You Now? The Graduate Union College Alumni (GUCA) want to get in touch with past residents. If you, or anyone you know, has ever stayed at Graduate House since 1962 – whether it was for one night or for three years, whether it was your parent or grandparent, or their friends, please contact us by phone or email, or send us a letter so that we can add you and them to our year lists and keep in touch.

For each of these past residents, let us know:

• who you are;

• where you are in the world;

• what you are doing now;

• how you came to be doing this; • when you stayed here; and • your memories of Graduate House.

Our digital database has a limited number of entries of the residents since the beginnings of the residential college in the early 1960s. At that time, and after fifty years as a membership association, the college started with seven rooms in the Gladstone terraces and increased to 24 rooms three years later. By 1971, there was a total of 54 rooms in the William Berry Wing and in 2005 we gained over 50 rooms through construction of the middle main building. In 2013, we have 114 rooms. The following shows the growth in the number of rooms available from 1962 to now. The graph below that illustrates the large task ahead of us in entering all past residents - our college alumni - into our revamped membership management system.

In addition to going through all of our past written records, Melbourne Graduates and newsletters, we are tapping the memories of those past staff members and residents with whom we are in contact. However, with a likely number of >10,000 alumni, it may take a couple of years to get everyone entered and a few more years to find current contact details and to get in touch!

Once upon a Tie-me In the August issue of The Graduate Union Newsletter, we put out a call for anyone with a Graduate Union tie to get in touch. Made available in the sixties and seventies which have been explained to us as ‘perfect years’ for a tie-wearing graduate population of those times.

When all that Remains are Bones Professor Chris Briggs is Head of Anatomy and Cell Biology at Melbourne University as well as a consultant forensic anthropologist for the Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine (VIFM).

Dr Briggsâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; professional expertise is in anatomy, applied anatomy and forensic anthropology.

He is Associate Professor in the Department of Anatomy and Neuroscience at the University of Melbourne, Honorary Associate Professor in Forensic Medicine at Monash University and Forensic Anthropologist at the Victorian Institute of Forensic Medicine.

In the latter capacity, his expertise is in forensic identification and he has been involved in domestic forensic cases as well as work in the international arena: East Timor in 2000, Bali in 2001 and Christchurch in 2011. He is co-author of Practical Anatomy: Guide and Dissector and General Anatomy: Principles and Applications as well as a series of instructive CDâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s in anatomy, titled An@tomedia. He has published many articles as well as several book chapters in anatomy, applied anatomy and forensic anthropology.

Professor Zeger Degraeve

Decision Making for Leaders

Professor Zeger Degraeve (B.Sc (Ghent) MBA (Katholieke Universiteit Leuven) PhD (Chicago)) is currently Dean of Melbourne Business School and a former Professor of Decision Sciences at London Business School.

Professor Degraeve is a leading expert in decision making, operations research and the management of project portfolios. An award-winning teacher, he has contributed to executive development programs in Europe, Africa, Asia, the Middle East and North America for such leading businesses as HSBC, Cadbury Schweppes, Rio Tinto, Carlsberg and IBM. After studying at the Universities of Ghent and Leuven in Belgium, Zeger Degraeve gained his PhD from the Graduate School of Business at the University of Chicago. He was Professor of Management Science in the Department of Applied Economics at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, before joining London Business School in 1999 where he served as Deputy Dean (Programs) and as a member of the School’s Management Committee from 2006 to 2009.

Professor Degraeve established London Business School’s new centre in Dubai, and between September 2007 and August 2009, was the centre’s faculty director. In July 2008, he was appointed Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Professor of Innovation at London Business School in recognition of his innovative work in establishing London Business School programs at a foreign location, a first in the School’s history.

For this last Twilight Lecture in 2013, Professor Degraeve will focus on how leaders learn and self-train to become leaders. Business leaders constantly make important decisions with lasting consequences, often facing tremendous uncertainty. Don’t you find it surprising that most of them are self-trained in decision making? In this talk, he will explore answers to questions like: How do we make good decisions facing uncertainty? and What are we accountable for while making decisions? He hopes to demonstrate that decision making is a process that we can all learn and master.

Doug de Vries

Ken Murray has developed a singular path as a guitarist combining performance, composition, teaching and research.

Doug de Vries is one of Australiaâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s foremost guitarists and a significant composer for the guitar.

Ken has championed and recorded Spanish music from the early twentieth century, worked extensively with contemporary composers and has been active as a performer of Brazilian and South American musical styles.

Composition is increasingly becoming a focus and he has written a variety of works for guitar in solo and ensemble settings. As a teacher he has over twenty years of experience at home and overseas.

Doug excels in many musical genres, from jazz to choro, tango and bossa nova. He is considered Australiaâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s leading exponent of Brazilian guitar repertoire and recently released a solo album of original works and classic Brazilian repertoire, DdV Solo.

He is particularly noted for his sophisticated accompaniments, deep knowledge and daring improvisations whether in solo or group settings.

Christmas In July review What a great night it was!

Friday, July 19th, 2013 It has been three years since the last Graduate Union Christmas In July and as expected, it was much anticipated by residents, members and staff. In previous years there was a DJ (discjockey) and karaoke machine and this year was no different.

For the staff, the festivity began on the Monday of that week, with discussions on the decorations and the programme for the evening taking place in the main office. Throughout the week, our dedicated function facility staff went above and beyond in decorating the dining room in the Christmas spirit.

The tables were set for the Christmas mood with starters that included seafood and salad.

Members, resident and non-resident, started streaming into the dining room around 5.30pm for pre-drinks and conversation.

The tables were set up, complete with Christmas crackers (Bonbons) and every diner was presented with a raffle ticket which made them eligible for lucky draws throughout the evening.

The entrees were served, and included assortments from the seafood platter and fresh garden salad, carefully prepared by our kitchen crew. Everyone was seated by 6.30pm. Our very own MCs (Masters of Ceremony), Eliah Castiello and Zac Matthews, welcomed guests and announced the event open.

And then the entertainment began! The staff of the Graduate Union put together a dance routine to the tune of the Village Peopleâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s YMCA, followed by resident member Ranjaka Mayadunne performing an acoustic rendition of Coldplayâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s famous hit, Yellow.

Non-resident members Marguerita Adam, Margaret Mayers and Kitty Van Wees-Miller got together with other members for a beautiful rendition of Silent Night and everyone was encouraged to join the group or sing from their seats. Resident members who joined the group sang in the languages of their countries of origin, like Spanish and German.

Many members took to the microphone throughout the night which kept our DJ busy with karaoke requests. The Best Female Singer prize went to resident member Louise McLeod who sang KT Tunstall’s Suddenly I See; while the Best Male Singer prize was won by Santa himself, aka duty resident, Tim Stephens who sang Whitney Houston’s The Greatest Love of All. Group performers from each table had their turn at the microphones, with special mention to resident member Syano Musyimi, who had the audience in stitches when he performed an interpretive dance of his group’s song choice.

Residents gradually moved towards the floor to dance as the night’s DJ started spinning dance hits and creating a great environment to get everyone off their seats. Members also performed the Gangnam Style dance where the floor was filled with dancers who formed a circle as they galloped in a horse-like style.

Recipe for a successful evening? We had the ingredients: song, dance, fabulous food, great music and good company. All we had to do was mix them together!

Conference Delegate Accommodation Options The Graduate Union is proud to announce that we are offering accommodation to delegates attending conferences in Melbourne that are scheduled outside the academic year - for example, late November to December, and in the early part of the year before semester begins.

As non-members, delegates can choose to stay for a maximum of seven nights. Should they become members - and they are eligible if they have graduated from any university in the world - they will pay the lower member accommodation rates and will also become part of The Graduate Union’s vibrant international collegium of graduates from multiple disciplines and countries, and at different life stages.

August Monthly Luncheon review Wednesday, August 7th, 2013

Mr Tim Colebatch While preparing his speech for the 2013 August Monthly Luncheon, our guest speaker, Mr Tim Colebatch, economics editor for The Age newspaper, found copies of the notes he had written for a presentation he gave at The Graduate Union fifteen years ago. Coincidentally, this last talk had been on a similar topic: Australia’s Economic Future. Mr Colebatch admitted that his predictions in this 1998 talk had relied on past economic and political trends, and that he may have failed to account for factors that thence impacted Australia independently. As he explained, the reality of economics is that it is an ever shifting playing field and that, while past trends are an excellent reference in theory, they cannot be used to predict economic futures.

He noted that the first big change since his late 1990’s presentation was the pattern of global income growth which had been relatively slow in 1982 at 11%, crept up to 17% by 2012 and recently forecasted by International Monetary Fund (IMF) economists to reach 20% by 2018.

In addressing the question on what constituted this growth trend, Tim explained that the growth in countries with advanced economies continued at a steady pace while that of emerging market and developing economy regions had grown significantly. He saw this rapid growth in the latter as an obvious positive, pointing to improvements in living situations and job opportunities for the many citizens in these areas. He noted, however, that in the so-called advanced economy countries, the opposite was the case, with recovery growth rates after each global recession declining progressively from 3.2% in the past twenty years to the latest post-recession recovery growth rate of 1.6%.

Globally, the regions and countries that have shown the greatest increases in growth over the last twenty years include China (30%) and India (10%), as well as the Middle-East, Latin America and particularly Africa. A key factor attributed to these higher growth rates is the application of education to economic growth, social development and the critical thought that underpins planning and development. These lessons have gone hand in hand with the spread of democracy in the developing world and the associated increase in the importance of the public voice and influence.

He noted that China’s growth over three decades has been the most resource intensive growth in the world’s history, overtaking the growth rates of Japan and Korea. China purchases raw materials from other countries for use in manufacturing, particularly of steel and aluminium. As one of the primary providers of raw materials to China, this has impacted Australia significantly. Mineral prices are high and continue to rise. This boom, however, has rendered a previously competitive industry non-competitive in the current global economy. In Mr Colebatch’s view, action has been taken neither by the Reserve Bank nor the government to halt the consequential rises in inflation; and the Australian Government appears to have relied too heavily on the dollar rising to keep inflation under control, hoping for a massive boom, and all the time thinking that having a high dollar meant that lower import prices would offset the growth that was coming from the huge demand.

Tim presented statistics on exports in different Australian industry sectors. For the mining sector, the growth since 1972 has been significant: from 25% to 52% in 2012. Similarly, but for the shorter period from 1972 to 1997, exports from Australia’s manufacturing sector, particularly to Asia, rose significantly and sharply. In addressing the question of Australia’s competition in export markets, Tim noted that from 2002 to 2012, the United States, Europe and New Zealand had managed to take 30% of the Australian export industry but that this figure had since gone down to 18%. In 2002, China received 10% of Australia’s exports; and by 2012, this had tripled to 30% of our exports.

Mr Colebatch felt that developing countries were likely to continue with rapidly increasing growth rates and he questioned the means by which such growth might be sustained. He noted, for example, that Indonesia seems to be falling backwards and that the government in India is running deficits mainly because growth appears to be concentrated on its coastal cities. China is repaying loans to semi government sectors and Nigeria, with a large population and a massive 8% growth per annum, is experiencing civic turmoil and thus falling backwards.

Pointing to Singapore, Mr Colebatch outlined this country’s monetary policy to hold the value of its currency steady and close to the currency values of the major advanced economies. He explained that this had proven to be a sound approach and that it had resulted in a reduction in the risk of currency fluctuations on the large import and export industries of Singapore, and thence on the debt levels of its citizens. He expressed his alarm at the high and complex levels of personal debt currently in Australia and of the difficulties Australian’s now face in selling and then buying again in the same high-price market.

Many questions were posed to Tim. One listener asked if we were getting maximum value out of our mineral exports or whether we should be looking at taking ownership and ensuring that it is Australian owned. Mr Colebatch replied that he thinks we should not change the current system, and added that it is good, by and large, to have free flow of capital. He added that employment of Australian’s in these industries remains high and irrespective of ownership, and that because we do not take ownership and responsibility, we also don’t take the very high risks of a volatile industry.

When asked whether lower interest rates for mortgaged householders would lead to decreases in income for the elderly from lower interest on their savings, Mr Colebatch’s view was that this would not affect the overall economy in any significant way because the borrowing figures far outweigh the value of bank deposits. This means that the losses to investors are outweighed by the gains of people with mortgages.

On whether growth is a good thing in a first world economy like Australia, Tim expressed the view that growth at any cost is not always positive. He gave the example in China where the very large cities are facing significant and negative public health effects from over-development and pollution. He explained that development must always be with the view to remain ecologically and economically sustainable, and that growth must be distributed fairly.

Another question was on the future for Australia in making small parts, like car and mechanical components. Tim responded by agreeing to this potential, provided that the contracts with oversea’s companies were high-volume, or if the parts in question are Australia inventions and thus with potential for sustained patent and intellectual property income. Otherwise, he felt it more cost effective to export the raw materials as we remain a high wage economy nation that cannot compete for the small part export market. On whether we should be making cars in Australia when it is cheaper to buy from overseas, he said that this will depend on the exchange rate.

On Australia’s attractiveness to major corporate banks as being politically stable when compared to other parts of the Pacific, he explained that this advantage had decreased in recent years and that few companies set up regional companies here because it is too expensive to do business in and from Australia. On Australia’s current low percentage gross domestic product (GDP) spending on biomedical research as compared to that of Singapore, Israel, Sweden, Tim said the first task should be to control our currency and make it competitive, and explained that Singapore is now one of the richest countries in the world because of good economic policies and low company tax incentives. On the future of local entrepreneurs and the capacity to develop new technologies for the world market, Tim gave the example of Taiwan - a country of similar economy and population, but with citizens who have lower living standards than those in Australia - investing a lot on innovation, keeping their currency low and making it very economical for their manufacturers to produce locally. www.graduatehouse.com.au | ABN: 55610 664 963 | Incorporated Association Registration No. A0023234B

UNIVERSITY SECTOR NEWS Chocolate Fit for a Nobel There is evidently a sweet side to the Nobel Prize. Results from a survey about the chocolate consumption of 23 male Nobel laureates during their years of prizewinning work, indicate that 10 (43%) report eating chocolate more than twice a week, compared to the percentage of 25% for 237 educated, age-matched men. These results follow in the foot steps of an analysis that suggested a correlation between national chocolate consumption per capita and Nobel Prize nominees. The science behind the theory points to flavonoids, a chemical present in chocolate and red wine. Flavonoids are known as a key chemical in boosting cognitive ability and are thought to be a fantastic source of antioxidants. While they may help cognitive ability, there is a sub-theory that they may not impact positively upon memory as some Nobel Prize winners did not remember that they had even completed the chocolate survey.

Of course, correlation does not mean causation and the theory is largely based on speculation. It is thus imperative that further study be considered and that the investigators remain hopeful of an increase in sample sizes with the anticipated large influx of volunteers for a program that boasts Nobel Prize chances and an unlimited supply of chocolate. On the topic of a chocolate correlation a number of Nobel Prize winners commented anonymously: I can offer you a sure example of a â&#x20AC;&#x153;double dissociationâ&#x20AC;? between Nobel Prize winning and chocolate consumption ... I am not particularly fond of chocolate but received a Nobel Prize ... My wife is crazy about chocolate and eats it almost every day but so far she has not received the phone call.

Once every few years there is an idea that is thrown into the global conversation that will revolutionise our future way of life. Sometimes it is on at the microscopic level as we saw last year with the discovery of the Higgs Boson. Sometimes, it is ever so slightly larger than molecules. NASA has decided to catch an asteroid, claiming that it would be a necessary step towards a manned mission to Mars. The concept, seemingly taken from a sci-fi novel, would be to bring an asteroid, seven to ten yards wide, close to earth and send astronauts up for the purposes of further examination.

The program would be the first step towards the successful management and movement of large items in space, provide significant contributions to our understanding of space mining and assist in the development of thinner and lighter solar panels that would be useful for a human mission to Mars in the 2030s. The designs for such a colossal capture have already been drawn up and approved, the only snag being US politics. After a review by Congress, it was decided that the asteroid capturing project may well be too much of a distraction from NASAâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s mission to get to Mars as soon as possible.

UNIVERSITY SECTOR NEWS Need a Backyard Statue?

Our city of Melbourne reflects the best combination of urban planning and aesthetic design, and it is this combination that defines Melbourne as the art capital of Australia. Many of the public artistic pieces have become such an integrated part of this city’s scenery that it is hard to imagine a walk through the city without passing such icons as the Flower Clock near the Botanical Gardens, or the fountains in front of the National Gallery of Victoria. One piece of Melbourne’s iconic art scene is regrettably in search of a new home: Bunjil, the 25-metre high eagle sculpture on the median strip of Wurundjeri Way. The move is predicated upon the green light being given for Lend Lease’s $1.5 billion development of 100,000 square metres of office space and 600 apartments in seven towers, all connecting to a public plaza. The plan is also to link the Docklands to Collins Street. It will be no easy move. The statue itself weighs in at just over 20 tonnes, and the concrete slab that supports it comes in at just under 90 tonnes.

Bunjil’s creator, Bruce Armstrong, was surprised by talk of the eviction of this landmark, stating that he first heard of the news after a phone call from Fairfax Media. Bruce believes that the move should be based on public opinion, claiming that the statue is public property.

12 Doctors, 50 years young There are few television shows that stand the test of time. Fewer still retain not only their primary audience but gain new and committed audiences every season. Doctor Who, the charismatic sci-fi show that launched in 1963, is one of those few. For those of you who have not viewed the show, the Doctor is an alien who, alongside human, alien and robotic companions, travels through time and space using his TARDIS (Time And Relative Dimension In Space), a blue police call box which is larger on the inside. When the Doctor dies, his body regenerates into a new form - a new person who retains the Doctor’s memories. This is how the producers of Doctor Who change the main actor for the role of the Doctor every couple of seasons, without upsetting the audience with a lack of explanation.

The original series screened from 1963 to 1983 and the show was then taken up again in 2005.

Since then it has gained popularity en masse and has become one of the major sci-fi series in contemporary times. 2013 marks 50 years for the series and franchise. Many actors have played the role of the Doctor and it has become an exciting and special role in British television. Each Doctor is remembered by their number, with William Hartnell being the first Doctor. Since then, there have been ten other Doctors, each giving something new to the Doctor Who universe.

On August 4th, 2013, it was announced that the 12th Doctor would be played by Peter Capaldi, who takes the role from the 11th Doctor, Matt Smith. The appointment in this particular case, is a decision not taken lightly as the doctor is thought to only have twelve regenerations. As such, Peter may be the last person to ever play the role. UNIVERSITY SECTOR NEWS Unique Howling May Save Rare Howlers In a recent paper published in the journal Bio-Acoustics, the authors report on a new, sophisticated means of analysing the sound recordings of wild wolf howls to recognise and distinguish between the howls of individual wolves. Using the pitch and amplitude of the recorded howls, research teams in the US and Canada have even been able to identify individual wolf howls in pack howling sessions.

The technique allows researchers to track the wolves successfully and efficiently in their natural habitat, and is being proposed as a potential means for saving the Grey Wolf from being removed from the US endangered species list. The wolves were placed on the list after they were very nearly made extinct in the 1960s when they were considered a pest and became a common target for hunters. With their population increasing and thriving in Michigan, Alaska and Wisconsin, American farmers have increasingly expressed concerned over their livestock and trade.

By tracking the howls, researchers claim that they can keep count and track of the wolves, and thus introduce methods to keep the wolf population within their territory, out of the farmers’ lands.

Pitch perfect patience Did I tell you how much I love my job? I love my job. We get to meet the coolest people on ABC Afternoons and today I think we met the most patient man in the world.

Professor John Mainstone has been custodian of a single science experiment for 52 years. Enough time for eleven Prime Ministers to move in and out of Kirribilli House and for the passing of seventeen Olympic games. The experiment is called The Pitch Drop wherein it takes between ten and twelve years for a lump of pitch to schmooze through a funnel and drop. Pitch is solid enough to smash with a hammer but its solidity co-exists with fluidity. I know. Crazy.

In terms of visible thrills and spills, there are none, yet science egg-heads the world over watch this thing on webcams and obsess about seeing the exact moment when one piece of pitch becomes two. It happens in one tenth of a second. You can ignore it for nearly a decade but after that, look away at your peril.

Professor Mainstone has been watching since 1961, during which time the pitch has dropped eight times and on every occasion ... he’s missed it - once in 1979 because he took a Sunday off and again in 1988 because he was getting a cup of tea. That right there would rot my socks. Yet he remains the most patient and sunny-natured man. He didn’t even throw his cup of tea at a wall.

On the most recent drop, Professor Mainstone had cameras rigged to capture the moment, but the cameras failed. So while the dual properties of pitch might excite the science-y types among us, people like Professor John Mainstone inspire in me equal levels of wonder.

Seen at Graduate House On the 17th July, the Finance and Planning Research Department from The University of Melbourne held their Christmas In July Luncheon. Their table was set up to reflect the traditional feel of Christmas festivity.

Staff from the department enjoyed a seafood platter with fresh salad as starters, turkey breast and ham off the bone for mains and pavlova for dessert.

The Graduate Union extends happy birthday wishes to Damien Dunlop (far right) who celebrated his big day with wife Lisi (seated on Damienâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s right) and friends Soo Thye Tan (far left) and wife Wan Ping.

Damien joined the Graduate Union as a Life member in 1987.

Life member since 1961, Dr Geoffrey Vaughan AO is seen here with wife Jennie to celebrate his birthday; and astute readers will note that he is wearing his Graduate Union tie, purchased in the sixties.

Currently residing in Beaconsfield, the Vaughans drop by occasionally for a meal at Graduate House when they are in the vicinity.

Reciprocal Association News The Bellevue Club Located at 525 Bellevue Avenue, Oakland, The Bellevue Club is about eight miles from Oakland International Airport and a forty minute drive from San Francisco International Airport, making it accessible for international travellers such as those travelling from Melbourne, Australia!

Initially, the Club was founded as The Women’s Athletic Club by three women with great foresight.

Articles of Incorporation were signed in 1926 and the Clubhouse was completed in 1929. The Front view of The Bellevue Club.

Bellevue Club’s rich history and architectural aesthetics makes it an ideal place to visit and its many members hold private events at this venue, including weddings, banquets, birthdays, anniversaries and Bar and Bat Mitzvah celebrations.

The Bellevue Club provides comfortable and recently refurbished guest rooms, each with a private bathroom, phone and cable TV. Most rooms also have balconies overlooking the beautiful Lake Merritt. King, queen, double or twin bed configurations are available. A large parking lot is available at no extra charge to members and guests of the Club. Additionally, a small office with free wireless internet access may be used by overnight guests - the Club providing copying and facsimile services at a nominal charge.

Function room facilities.

The Club has a large and well-equipped fitness centre which has Nautilus machines, treadmills, exercise bicycles and free weights. The near Olympic sized indoor pool is heated and has five lanes for lap swimming from 6.00am to 10.00pm every day.

This year, The Bellevue Club members are celebrating the 84th anniversary of their beautiful club and have scheduled a range of activities and events which may be of interest to Graduate Union members who are visiting the mid west coast of America.

In the August newsletter we informed Members that the new Council (governing body) met on the 12th June after the annual general meeting (AGM) on the 31st May. At this meeting, Councillors Tony Pagone and Cheryl Kidston were elected as Chair and ViceChair, respectively. The new committee structure and terms of references were also adopted, as was the composition of each committee.

Additionally, the Fundraising and Benefactions Working Party met to progress planning of a major campaign to raise over $10M in the next two years; and the Resident Members Committee met to address quality control improvements and suggested refurbishment options for resident areas of the 114 room college (e.g., of the residentsâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; kitchen, dining and TV rooms).

Council met again on the 31st July to receive the reports and recommendations from each of these committees and working parties. Preparation of the new constitution continues to be a key focus, and Council was thus grateful to hear from those who attended the Member consultation forums on the 7th and 14th August. We assure all Members that the final version is near, and that the differences between our current and the proposed rules are few.

History and traditions are respected, and the changes provide clarity and enhancements while also ensuring continuing compliance during a period of great regulatory change at state and federal levels for charities and not-for-profits. Though on schedule to put the new constitution to a Member vote later this year, Council remains committed to ensuring that this new constitution is good and proper. As such, Council is cautious in advising a firm date for a general meeting of Members to decide on this new constitution but is confident in achieving the change before the May 2014 AGM. In other news, Council continues to analyse the Member Survey results and to gain a more comprehensive understanding of our Members, their interests and their ideas for continuing to move to an actively engaged and vibrant membership organisation with which all graduates of any age, discipline or culture will want to be involved. As we all are too aware, all membership associations face challenges in retaining and recruiting members. To learn more about these challenges, please come along to a free one hour webinar at Graduate House on Tuesday, 27th August from 11.00am. We are hosting this jointly with the Carlton Rotary Club which meets here, at Graduate House, weekly. As such, this will be a unique and valuable opportunity also to share experiences with a membership association that operates successfully at the international level.
