GHSG Table Tennis Competition

Graduate House Student Group organised an in-house table tennis competition on 29th May 2022. Promotions for the event started in early May to provide ample time for Graduate House resident members to sign up. Various forms of advertising platforms such as emails, posters, Facebook Resident Society messenger group and Word of mouth were used to reach out to as many members as possible. Fourteen people signed up, including Jian, the sports coordinator, who was the main person in charge of this competition. Players were divided into four groups and the top two participants in each group advanced to the quarter finals. Kicking off the first match at 10am was the eventual champion, James against Chutong Wong. Unfortunately, some participants who played one game (the first game) did not show up for the next stage, thus, the group stages were completed quicker than expected. James, Jian, Gota and Gaoli won their quarter finals match in straight sets (2-0) and proceeded to the semi-finals. Both games turned out to be a tightly contested affair with James and Jian needing 3 games to defeat Gota and Gaoli respectively. A pulsating final saw Jian and James fighting neck to neck and James eventually won the competition with the tightest score of 9-11, 11-7, 12-10. The winner received a mystery bag as the first prize, the first runner up received a footy ball and the semi-finalists were all rewarded a box of chocolates each. Spectators and participants also received chocolates as a token of gratitude for participating and supporting this competition. And with that, the very successful in-house competition ended at 1pm. To the kind staff (anonymous) - a big shout for your sponsorship of prizes! Also, for the purchase of new table tennis bats and balls. You have been most kind and generous!
