abstract
The paper refers to the relationship of the city of Patras with the system of urban rail transport,by their appearance in the city in 1887, until today.
Patras for the last decades is in a dialogue, on the reconfiguration of the relationship with the sea, its functions and the role acquired in modern times. The crossing of the railroad is now a challenge for the city. Through the review of the development of cities in relation to transport and the review of the configuration of the rail network in Greece, the city configuration is examined and the role of the train. From the international experience are examined four cases of the cities of Seattle, of Badalona, of Vancouver and Toronto, which have common characteristics in terms of functions, the water front and the railway.
