After subdued worship during the season of Lent, which focused on our Savior’s suffering and death, our Easter morning worship is full of Alleluias once again. “Alleluia� or “Hallelujah� means “Praise the Lord!� While our Easter celebrations may look a little different this year, we pray our worship today is no less meaningful as we look at Christ’s victory over sin, Satan, and even death!

Prayer before Worship Living Lord and risen Savior, accept my alleluias and increase my joy that comes from knowing that you have risen from the dead. Comfort me with the assurance that my sins are forgiven and eternal life in heaven is sure. Let the joy of the Easter message lead me to go and tell the good news of your resurrection to the people who don’t know the true meaning of Easter. Let the light of my faith in you shine brightly as I face each day in the future and the day of my death on earth. I ask this in your name, who rose for me. Amen. INVOCATION In the name of the Father and of the Son ( ) and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
CONFESSION AND ABSOLUTION Alleluia. Jesus Christ is risen. He is risen indeed! Alleluia. Christ is alive and victorious over death. He has won the battle over evil and reunited us with God. He is present with us to proclaim peace and joy. Christ is in power forever and ruling now in glory and grace. Alleluia to our risen Lord! Because we know our need for our victorious Savior, we confess our sins: Dearest Jesus, we humbly bow before you confessing our many sins of thoughts, words, and actions. We have not and do not always live as your people. Forgive us as we place our trust in you, your death on the cross, and your glorious resurrection victory. Having confessed our sins and professed our trust in Christ, we can be sure of God’s forgiveness. With great joy I announce that you are indeed a forgiven child of God, in the name of the Father and of the Son ( ) and of the Holy Spirit. In view of God’s love and mercy, live as a child of the resurrection. Amen.
We come before the true God only because of his mercy and not because we deserve to come. We confess our unworthiness and rejoice to hear the assurance of forgiveness.

PRAYER OF THE DAY Almighty God, by the glorious resurrection of your Son Jesus Christ you conquered death and opened the gate to eternal life. Grant that we, who have been raised with him through baptism, may walk in newness of life and ever rejoice in the hope of sharing his glory; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, be dominion and praise now and forever. Amen.

In Jonah, we see a picture of both Jesus and us. Like Jonah, Jesus was judged and sent to his death by God the Father. Like Jonah, after three days, he emerged from death to life. Like Jonah, you and I deserve nothing but death. Yet it is God’s will to kill us not physically, but baptismally, and that a new man should arise as from the dead to live before God. Raised from death to life, we join with a forgiven Jonah in proclaiming, “Salvation belongs to the Lord!” Christ’s Easter is our Easter, too. We live as resurrected heirs waiting for our inheritance. We set our hearts and minds on the glory that is waiting for us above.

You threw me into the depths, into the heart of the seas. The currents swept around me. All your breakers and your waves swept over me. I said, ‘I have been driven away from your sight. SECOND LESSON Therefore, because you were raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on earthly things.

Jonah 2:2-9 of the mountains I sank down. The earth locked me behind its bars forever. But you brought my life up from the pit, O LBCD, my God. When my life was ebbing away, I remembered the LBCD. My prayer came to you, to your holy temple. Those who cling to worthless idols forsake the mercy that is theirs. But I, with a shout of thanksgiving, will indeed sacrifice to you. What I have vowed, I will certainly pay in full. Salvation belongs to the LBCD!”
Colossians 3:1–4 For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.

Matthew 28:1–10 has risen, just as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. Go quickly and tell his disciples, ‘He has risen from the dead! And look, he is going ahead of you to Galilee. There you will see him.’ See, I have told you!” They hurried away from the tomb, with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples. Suddenly Jesus met them and said, “Greetings!” They approached, took hold of his feet, and worshipped him. Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid. Go, tell my brothers that they should go to Galilee, and there they will see me.”
The women walked to the tomb with hearts full of disappointment. All they hoped to do was anoint the body of a dead man. But when the angel spoke, the tomb became a place of victory! The angel proclaimed it: “He has risen, just as he said.” That fact changed our relationship with God forever. You can see it in the words of Jesus to the women: “Go and tell my brothers.” Mankind is redeemed; death is defeated; fear is conquered. Christ looks upon us forgiven sinners and calls us his brothers.

The tomb stands empty. Death is defeated. Jesus is living, alleluia!

Revelation 19:11–16 VICTORY!
I saw heaven standing open, and there was a white horse! Its rider is called Faithful and True, and he judges and makes war in righteousness. His eyes are like blazing flames, and on his head are many crowns. He has a name written on him, which no one knows except he himself. He is also clothed in a garment that had been dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God. The armies in heaven, which
were clothed with white, clean, fine linen, were following him on white horses. Out of his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations. He will shepherd them with an iron staff. He himself is going to trample the winepress of the fierce anger of the Almighty God. On his garment and on his thigh this name is written: King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

PRAYER OF THE CHURCH O Lord God, our strength, our song, and our salvation, you fulfilled your promises by the resurrection of your Son, Jesus Christ, from the dead. You give us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. In your compassion you sent Christ, the Good Shepherd, who laid down his life to rescue the lost. Drive out all doubt and gloom that we may delight in your glorious triumph. Lift our eyes heavenward to see him who lives to make intercession for the saints, and grant us confidence in the greatness of his power. Keep before us the vision of your redeemed people standing before your throne and singing the song of victory: “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain to receive wisdom and power and honor and glory and praise.” Make us instruments of your peace as we bring the good news of hope and new life to those around us. Guide us in the use of all that you have entrusted to us: our time, our talents, and our treasures. Live in us that we may live for you. Merciful Lord Jesus, grant healing to the sick, and strengthen the faith of the suffering and the dying. Assure them of your abiding presence, and comfort them with the hope of eternal life. Special prayers and intercessions may follow. Gracious Father, you have restored to us the joy of your salvation. With happy hearts, we come before your throne and say: “Alleluia! Thanks be to God!” Amen. 8
Matthew 6 and Luke 11 record how Jesus taught his disciples to pray. We use his example prayer as part of our public worship, trusting that he will hear and answer our prayers.
LORD’S PRAYER
The blessing of Aaron has been spoken over God’s people for over 3,500 years. The Lord said, “So I will put my name on [them], and I will bless them.” Numbers 6:27
BLESSING
We also join to pray: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.
The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you. The Lord look on you with favor and ( ) give you peace. Amen.
