Our mission at Grace is to teach the inspired and inerrant Word of God, to proclaim that Jesus Christ is the crucified and risen Savior of the world, and to nurture believers for lives of Christian service.

We are very pleased that you have joined us for worship today! We pray that this time will be a blessing for you as God comes to you with his Word and promises and as you offer him your thanks and praise.
The order of worship we will follow is printed in this worship folder for you to follow along and participate. You’ll notice that the service is a dialogue between God and us, his people. The pastor speaks to God along with the congregation and also speaks the Word of God to the people. LARGE PRINT worship folders are available at the entrances for those who desire them.
Today we are using elements from the Christian Worship (2021) hymnal. You will find these blue worship books in the hymnal racks in each pew. You will be asked to open the hymnal to participate in parts of the service today. A vocalist will aid in our singing and will be recorded for our audio disks and video live-streaming.
There is no cost to park in our parking lot during Sunday morning worship services. If you receive a citation by mistake, please let our office staff know so it can be cleared.

Over the next three Sundays, we will look at the blessings we have and continue to receive as part of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod. We praise God for preserving our synod for 175 years and we acknowledge that every good and perfect gift is from his hand.

OUR THEME FOR TODAY—CHRIST FOR US
Our synod’s 175 th anniversary theme is “Christ Through Us.” That can only be understood properly if we first establish the concept of “Christ For Us.” Jesus Christ’s life, death, and resurrection were not for his own benefit but specifically for humanity’s salvation. He lived a perfect life, fulfilling God’s law on behalf of sinners, and his death was a substitutionary atonement for our sins. The phrase “for us” underscores the idea that salvation is entirely a gift, granted by God though Christ’s actions, and is not earned by human effort or merit.
“Christ For Us” is central to the Bible’s explanation of justification, where believers are declared righteous before God solely on the basis of Christ’s work, received through faith. Christ’s vicarious suffering and resurrection assure Christians that God’s wrath against sin has been fully satisfied, and through Christ, we are reconciled to God.

CONFESSION
If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, God is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
Let us confess our sins to the Lord.
Holy God, gracious Father, I am sinful by nature and have sinned against you in my thoughts, words, and actions. I have not loved you with my whole heart; I have not loved others as I should. I deserve your punishment both now and forever. But Jesus, my Savior, paid for my sins with his innocent suffering and death. Trusting in him, I pray: God, have mercy on me, a sinner.

Our gracious Father in heaven has been merciful to us. He sent his only Son, Jesus Christ, who gave his life as the atoning sacrifice for the sins of the whole world. I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth.

Give your Word power as it works in our hearts and minds. Clear away our confusion, and demolish our doubts. Send your Spirit to strengthen both our confidence in your promises and our desire to live according to your will.
Take away our love of sinning, and restore us each day by your grace.
The signs of the times warn us that the end of time is near. Protect us from scoffers who sneer at your truth. Spare us and Christians around the world from all forms of hate and persecution.
Give us courage to carry the cross with patience and joy.
Instill in the hearts of our children a desire to follow you as they prepare for future days. Help them distinguish between what is passing and what is eternal, between instant thrills and lasting joy. Encourage more young people to prepare for service in the public ministry of the gospel.
Mold us and move us to be good examples for our youth.

Today begins our three-week worship series focusing on the 175th anniversary of our Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod. You can learn more about the anniversary and our synod’s history at welshistoricalinstitute.org/175th. We also have a limited number of copies of Christ Through Us, a pictorial history book. These may be purchased for $25 from the Grace Central Office while supplies last. There are also several copies available for check-out in the church library located at GraceTucson.

Arizona Lutheran Academy Sunday: October 26
On Sunday, October 26, the A Cappella Choir from Arizona Lutheran Academy will provide music in both services at Grace-Tucson. Ben Priebe, Director of Mission Advancement, from AZ Lutheran will give a presentation during our Adult Bible Class. Please plan to join us for this special Sunday! To express our thanks to the AZ Lutheran choir, a door offering will be collected that they will use to help defray their travel costs. Grace member Sam Kassulke is a member of this choir, which tries to visit each of the federation churches once every three years. Elsa Wiechmann, granddaughter of Jeff and Jody Kosanke, is also a member.
Area Reformation Service: October 26
The WELS churches in the Tucson area will be gathering to celebrate God’s grace with a special Area Reformation Service on Sunday, October 26 (just two weeks away). The service starts at 4:00 PM at Grace-Tucson (830 N 1st Ave). Our guest preacher is Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary Professor Joel Otto, who teaches church history and headed our synod’s committee to celebrate our 175th anniversary. Professor Otto is also CLC Director Laura Heiman’s brother. Stick around after the service for fellowship and refreshments.
Roast Beef Dinner & Craft Fair: November 14
The Women of Grace will be hosting the all-site Roast Beef Dinner and Craft Fair held at GraceTucson on Friday, November 14, from 4:30 to 6:30 PM. If you are interested in helping out with the dinner, please see the sign-up sheets on the table in the Fellowship Hall. Members are asked to bring a pie to share for dessert if you are able.

MTTC Christmas Toy & Hygiene Drive
Mission to the Children is once again holding a toy and hygiene drive. Please join them in making Christmas a little brighter for the less fortunate families they serve in Mexico and southern Arizona. Items needed include: unwrapped toys (up to $10 value each), Spanish coloring or activity books, new socks & underwear (all ages), hygiene items (full size), small toys for canvassing bags, and individually wrapped candy.
