The Polk County Fair Association would like to welcome you to our Junior Livestock Show.

Every participant who preregisters by May 28th will be guaranteed a fair t-shirt.

There are several events planned including a pie contest, tractor pull, tractor show, Youth Super Farmer Contest, livestock shows, and the Junior Livestock Auction. The community dinner will be held Saturday, June 20th, from 4:30-8:00pm. Tickets are $16.00.

Friday, June 19th, there will be the Rooster Crowing Contest from 5:05-5:30pm. This contest is for exhibitors only who have entered the fair and their animal has been blood tested. Registration will be from 4:30-5:00pm.For more rules please contact the Poultry Superintendent, Valerie Noblitt, 417-327-3279.

General Rules & Information 1. Entries must be made on entry blanks signed by 4-H leader, parents, Vo-Ag instructor or extension agent. Entries may be mailed to Polk County Fair Extension Center, 110 E Jefferson, Bolivar, Mo 65613.

2. All awards will be made according to the Danish system.

3. All exhibitors in livestock, farm mechanics, and the horse show must be 6 years of age and not over 21 years of age by fair date, except the horse show lead line class, stick horse class, and the pee wee class in every species which will be for 4 and 5 year olds.

4. All 4-H booth exhibits are limited to members of Polk County 4-H Clubs.

5. All youth residing in Missouri may exhibit in the swine, beef cattle, sheep, dairy cattle, goat, rabbit, poultry, dog, and horse show, and must meet the age, ownership, and other rules and regulations.

6. All livestock/dairy entries must be owned and/or cared for by the exhibitor.

7. No livestock or farm mechanics exhibits may be removed or loaded until after all the judging has been completed in the show or released by Fair Officials.

8. Polk County Fair follows all health requirements provided by the State Veterinary Office for the Missouri State Fair. These may be found at the Missouri State Fair web page www.mostatefair.com. Health papers must be obtained from a veterinarian and in the possession of the exhibitor.

9. No spectators will be allowed in the show ring during the time of the show. Those allowed in the ring during the show include exhibitors, judges, and superintendents of the show.

Exceptions will be made at the discression of the superintendent.

10. No claim on an injury to any person or property shall ever be asserted nor suit instituted or maintained against the Livestock Show and it’s officers, or the Polk County Fair Association, or it’s members.

11. Controversal matters will be settled by the committees or superintendents in charge of the activity where the questions arises.

12. The decision of the judges shall be final.

13. No exhibitor may win more than one showmanship award at this Fair in any one year.

14. No exhibitor may win more than $125.00 premium money on livestock exhibits shown at this Fair in any one year 15. Showmanship winners must be exhibitors of cattle or other livestock in the division the award is made.

16. The Superintendent may refuse entry of any animal that might endanger the people at the show.

17. Additional rules and information are listed on the sheets giving the classes and activitities of the various events.

18. The civic clubs, businessmen and others that donated to make this show possible are listed in this book. Remember them when you need services or supplies.

19. Premiums are based on a point system. Value of points are determined by number of exhibits and funds available.

20. Only dogs exhibiting in the show will be allowed to attend.

Polk County Fair Queen Contest Young women must be between 17 and 22 years of age. They must have been a Polk County resident for no less than 6 months prior to the fair, attend a Polk County high school, or a member of a Polk County 4-H Club or FFA Chapter. Selection of the queen will be based on the following score basis: • Personal interview - 40% • Public speaking or talent performance - 40% • Public Appearance/ modeling - 20% The winner of the Fair Queen Contest will be eligible to compete in the Missouri State Fair Queen Contest. Junior Livestock Auction Guidelines Participants must reside in Polk County, attend a Polk County School, be a member of Polk County FFA Chapter, or 4-H Club. Exhibitors are limited to selling one animal.

The following is the sale description: The premium sale of market animals is for premiums only, not the actual animal. Whatever dollar amount is bid on the animal goes to the youth as an additional premium and the buyer does not receive the animal under this type of arrangement. The reason the sale is premium only is to allow the youth to retain ownership of the animal to show at the Ozark Empire Fair and the State Fair if they wish. The premium sale allows area businesses to support the projects of Polk County Youth and help ensure they have a positive expierence. For anyone interested in obtaining high quality meat, you may want to visit with the exhibitors because several of them will be selling their animals privately at the end of the summer.

Any exhibitor wishing to participate in the Junior Livestock Auction must pre-register for the sale by May 28th.

Sale entries will not be accepted after May 28th.

Farm Mechanics Projects 1. All articles shall have been constructed by the boy or girl that enters the exhibit or exhibits.

2. Exhibits will be judged on workmanship, design, suitabilty of materials, quality, and appearance.

3. It is not necessary that exhibits have been constructed in the current school year, but an article may be shown at the Polk County Fair only once. Exhibits should be in a clean and presentable condition, even though used.

4. A limit of two (2) exhibits of each item per exhibitor may be shown.

5. Only those exhibits not eligble for showing in specific classes listed will be accepted in class number - 355.

6. A card with a minimun size of 5x7 must be placed in the exhibit. The card will include: (a) Name; (b) Estimated Cost: and (c) Estimated Contruction Time. The cards will be removed during judging.

7. The points assigned to projects are based on the amount and difficulty of the work involved, cost of moving, and the cost of materials. The points given below are for average projects of the kinds listed.

8. The Farm Mechanics Committee will meet before judging to adjust the points up or down when a project is unusual in size or difficulty, and it appears necessary in order to keep the points in balance.

9. A Grand Champion trophy will be awarded to the best exhibit in the Farm Mechanics Division and will be selected by the judge of the farm mechanics exhibits.

1. All dogs and pets must be trained by the exhibitor.

2. Exhibitor must be ready to enter the ring when their class is called.

3. All dogs must show proof of vaccination.

4. All pets will be examined for any sign of sickness or disease prior to the show. If pets are deemed unhealthy, they may be asked to leave.

5. Dogs or pets showing aggression toward people or other animals, at any time, will not be allowed to show.

Only dogs exhibiting in the show will be allowed to attend.

6. All animals must be on a leash, or properly contained at all times, unless they are in the ring, showing in a Level 3 class.

7. Each exhibitor may only enter one dog per class.

3. Exhibitors will be judged on their ability to handle their pet, their knowledge on the breed of the animal, as well as grooming and routine care techniques.

Obedience/ Agility 1. Prior to the class, the judge will demonstrate the course each exhibitor and their pet must complete.

2. Exhibitors and their pet will enter the ring, per the judge’s instructions.

3. Animals will be judged on their cooperation with their handler, their attentiveness to the course, and their ability to complete each task.

Longest Sit

1. Exhibitors will walk their dog into the ring, per the judges instructions.

2. Once the dog is in the sitting position, and the leash is released, time will start.

Most Terrific Trick

1. The exhibitor and their dog will be judged on their ability to work together to perform their best trick.

Top Handler

1. The exhibitor and their dog will be judged, at the judge’s discretion, based on their confidence and knowledge throughout the show, as well as their attitude toward other exhibitors and their animals.

Tips & Tricks

1. Exhibitors may wear jeans and a nice shirt, or a fair shirt.

2. Be sure to have your animals freshly bathed and groomed.

3. Refresh your knowledge on your animal’s specific breed and daily needs.

4. Prior to the show, work with your pet to walk properly on a leash, obey basic commands, and practice your best trick!

5. The agility obstacles will be open 30 minutes prior to the beginning of the show for exhibitors to familiarize themselves with the pattern.

The Danish system of judging will be used to judge exhibits (blue, red and white ribbons).

The exhibitor is responsible for feeding his/her own animals and must provide food and water containers.

If a specific class is not offered, check with the show superintendent before the fair.

Any animal showing signs of sickness will be removed from the show area.

All birds except waterfowl must be pullorum-typhoid tested as per MO Department of Agriculture regulations.

Pollorum- Typhoid testing will be performed free of charge prior to the show, and a certificate of inspection will be given to all birds testing negative. The certificate is valid for 90 days for the birds tested. Please present your birds for testing at 3:30pm.

7. Contestants who have not pre-registered, MUST check in at the registration table in the poultry barn.

8. Each bird entered must have a fair tag attached to their show pen and be in the proper show area to be judged.

Fun Class - Any breed, age or sex bird. All birds will be tested and free of clinical signs of disease as other classes. Birds may be of a mixed breed, aged 4 months or older. Prizes will be awarded for interesting markings, most colorful, ugliest, etc. Limit one bird per contestant, in the owner’s pen.

The bird must be easily seen in the pen. Prizes will be certificates and ribbons.

Only two entries may be entered in each class, and only 1 fur class entry (must be shown in regular class).

Each rabbit MUST be tattooed or marked in the left ear for identification.

Exhibitors must provide their own cage or carrier.

Purebreds must show proper characteristics or they will be entered in the crossbred class.

Exhibitors must personally handle their entries, unless it is due to an illness or physical handicap.

Any animal showing signs of sickness or disease will be asked to leave the show area.

Meat Pen -1. Set of three rabbits of any meat- type breed, or cross. Weight must be between 3.5 - 5.5 pounds and matched as close as possible.

2. Rabbits show on June 19, 2026 and return on June 20, 2026 at 5:00pm for the sale providing they were grand or reserve champion and were a blue ribbon recipient. Single Fryer: All rabbins entered in this class must be 70-90 days old and weigh 3.5-5.5 pounds. Animals must be a meat class rabbit or a cross of meat class rabbits.

2. Roasters: All rabbits entered in this class must be under 6 months of age. Minimum weight 5.5 pounds, maximum weight 9 pounds. Youth Pig Scramble

1. All participants must be at least 6 years old and less than 16 years by scramble date.

2. All participants must reside in Polk County, attend a Polk County School, or belong to a Polk County 4-H Club, a member of a Jr. FFA Chapter, or be an exhibitor of livestock in the current year’s fair.

3. Classes will be structured by age and will consist of separate classes for both boys and girls. (Pee Wee Class 4-5, 6-7 years of age, 8-9 years of age, and 10-13 years of age.)

4. Pigs will be prorated among boys and girls on a basis of entries.

5. All aprticipants will be required to register for the scramble just prior to the beginning of the event.

6. During the scramble contestants will attempt to make a clean catch on the pig without causing an injury to the pig or the other participants.

7. Captured pigs must be declared caught by a majority of the scramble judges before ownership is claimed.

8. Should pigs regain freedom before declared caught by the judges, said pig becomes fair game and may be pursued by the entire class of contestants until declared recaptured.

9. Should the scramble judges declare a tie catch, the pig will be returned to the middle ring and the scramble reopened between only previous tied contestants only.

10. No scramble judges will be permitted to participate in the scramble ring white their children are scrambling for pigs.

11. Decisions of the judges will be final in all matters and should any controversial issues arise, it will be settled by the scramble committee.

Pie Contest

Date: Saturday, June 20, 2026. Pies to be delivered between 9:30am-12pm to the Polk County Fair Grounds.

Pie Contest Rules

1. One entry per catergory per exhibitor 2. Names are not to be displayed anywhere on the entries. Entries will be assigned a number at registration.

3. Pie Crust and filling must be made from scratch and the recipe must be entered with the pie or cobbler. The name must not be on the recipe card pr pie/cobbler.

4. All pies and cobblers must be baked in an 8 or 9 inch disposable pan. Winning pies will be auctioned and you will not receive your pan back.

There will be one overall grand prize award for the overall highest scoring pie out of all the pies entered.

Auction

The top three placing youth and top three open pies will be auctioned Saturday evening around 6pm at the Appreciation dinner. All proceeds go to the Polk County Fair Association. The remaining pies and cobblers will be sold by the slice at the dinner with the proceeds going to the Polk County Fair Association.
