An ethics complaint was filed with the law firm of Rogers, Joseph, and O’Donnell against shareholder Jeffery Chiow after the plaintiff in litigation against Grace Episcopal Church discovered that Chiow had filed a false police report against Bonetti. The report claimed that Bonetti was “stalking” Chiow for having leafletted homes and cars near Chiow’s residence. The report reflects that there was no contact with Chiow, and his home was not leafletted.
“Last I heard, the First Amendment protects free speech,” said Bonetti. “That leaves two possibilities. Either Chiow is incompetent and does not understand basic aspects of constitutional law, Or he does understand the First Amendment and its implications for free speech, and thus knowingly filed a false police report. Either way, Chiow’s conduct is profoundly troubling, and he should resign immediately. Such behave brings disrepute on the entire legal profession.”
