A LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT Dear friends and community, As another unforgettable season comes to a close, we're reflecting on a summer filled with sunshine, community, and memorable moments at The War Memorial. From the return of SummerFest's lakeside concerts and family movie nights to outdoor wellness experiences, children's activities, and gatherings that brought neighbors together along the shores of Lake St. Clair, this summer reminded us why The War Memorial continues to be one of our community's favorite places to connect. Whether you joined us for one of our SummerFest events, a picnic on the lawn, or simply enjoyed time with family and friends overlooking the water, thank you for helping make this summer one to remember.

Last fall, Join or Die sparked an inspiring conversation at The War Memorial about civic engagement, social connection, and belonging. This fall, we're building on that momentum with the return of the Community Joiner Fair—an evening designed to help people discover the organizations and opportunities that strengthen our community. Presented in partnership with The Family Center and the Grosse Pointe Public Library, the event brings together local nonprofits, clubs, and civic organizations, giving attendees the opportunity to explore volunteer opportunities, discover new interests, and connect with others. Community organizations will also host informational tables throughout the evening, creating a welcoming space for conversation and collaboration. The evening's featured guest is Priya Parker, acclaimed facilitator and bestselling author of The Art of Gathering: How We Meet and Why It Matters and The Art of Fighting: The Transformative Power of Conflict. In a conversation moderated by Ann Delisi of WDET, Parker will explore how intentional gatherings—and even healthy conflict—can strengthen communities and deepen human connection. A moderated audience Q&A will follow. Following the program, guests are invited to meet Priya Parker during a book signing hosted by Next Chapter Books, with copies of both books available for purchase.

From reimagining the purpose of gatherings to exploring the transformative power of conflict, Priya Parker's work has inspired leaders, organizations, and communities around the world to build deeper human connection. Her books, The Art of Gathering and The Art of Fighting, invite readers to see every meeting, conversation, and disagreement as an opportunity for greater understanding and belonging. Copies of both books will be available for purchase, with an opportunity to have them signed following the program.
