My name is Gallus Presiden Dewagana, a fresh graduate architect from Parahyangan Catholic University. I believe architecture is representative of culture and nature. Public interest and natural sustainability must be prioritized in every design process. Part of my works represents the connection between design, people, and nature. I also interested in detail that can make the architecture more interactive with the sense of the user.

Imah Wirahma Concert Hall locat-

ed in Kota Baru Parahyangan, a developed city near Bandung. Imah Wirahma means house of rhythm, represent the music that is played in this place. The site that located near a node, this building becomes a new center of attention. The area that closest to the node is a public area. This area intended for local residents, so even though there is no concert, the local residents can still have activities here.

The basic plan of this design is a grided rectangle to achieve efficiency. But from the outside, this building has a diagonal axis that came from the roof shape. This diagonal axis represents rhythm as one of the music aspecs. The experience as a visitor is unique too, start with an irregular form on the outside but feel rigid on the inside. The difference between these two sides is like a musical experience that has a different tone in every part of the music. Apart from the concert hall, this building provides another facility for the public such as a food court, merchandise booth, and an outdoor amphitheater. For the performance, this building provides a rehearsal room, wardrobe room, green room, dressing room, and a lounge for the artist.

The material for the facade is an aluminum composite panel (ACP). Was chosen because of the flexibility and durability. This material can be applied for a curved shape. Under the ACP, aluminum foil and glass wool were used as isolation materials. The hollow steel frame was used as a frame to attach the ACP and the isolation materials.

Hotel located in Merdeka Street No. 51. Near this site, there are various parks. This area was design as a pedestrian area, so the citizens can enjoy the city with a walk. In the city development element, one of them is a node. A node connects one public facility to another public facility. In the north of the site, there is some public facility such as a mall, supermarket, and shopping center. The south of the site is disconnected from the north area. This hotel provides public space in form of a park and mini-museum as a node to connect these two areas.

The design concept was started from the axis that formed by the main street. The intersection between these two axes became the main entrance and lobby. The main mass extends from east to west to avoid the sun. This mass split into two masses to give more space and depth. The entrance to the site located in the south and the exit located in the north so that the circulation can be rotated. The public space located behind this hotel, the entrance be distinguished from the hotel guest entrance.

The artist will teach with a lot of methods, from practice, theory, and mentally. This building stands in a rural area, the fresh air and magnificent scenery can maximize the learning

process. Open space fulfills this area to make the learning process more fluid. The students can use the open space to hanging out, read a book, or meditation. That flexibility is important because this kind of education is different from the basic education process. Mentally progress is important because art is not always about what on paper but what in the stage.

Art Performance Organization made for the public that wants to learn contemporary performing art deeply. The public can stay in this site for a long term, such as 3 or 4 months.

This building uses a lot of natural elements like bamboo, wood, stone, grass, and water. For the structures, this building uses concrete and brick. With those materials, this building can represent the contemporary aspect from what kind of art that learned there. The mix between natural materials and factory materials represent contemporary arts that mix traditional arts and modern arts.

Apart from learning arts, the public can attend an art performance in the theater. The theater is open for the public so any artist can rent that space to run their show. The students from the organization can do a performance show in that space too.

BAMBOO BRIDGE IN CAFE DEL MAR

Bamboo bridge Cafe del Mar located in

Cafe del Mar Beach Club, Canggu, become one of the facilities in this beach club. This bridge look like a strange object, but when look deeply, this bridge is very unique and complex. The original idea from the principal architect generate this kind of form that never be made in bridge typologi. The combination between bamboo and modern materials such as cable and concrete affirms that this bridge is very unique.

the visitors, but the local residents to go to temple across the river. There is already a bridge, but the conditions is not good and further than this bridge. This bridge land in sand, and the river water level isn’t stable, so abrasion become problem in this bridge. The foundation become very important to make this bridge still in their posisition.

This bamboo bridge connect the beach club and beach itself. The beach club and beach separated with river with around 30 meters wide. Beach club invalid if the visitors can’t go to beach, so this bridge facilitate it. The bridge nit only provide

The design process is interesting. Start with simple mock up from the principal architect, I developed to the bigger scale. The hyperbolic paraboloid (hypar) become the main structure. This hypar prop the arch structure up. In the both ends, this structure held by another structure. This structure make sure the hypar and the arch stady. The base section, the structure that held the hypar and the arch function as a stair.

Cremona structure hold the hypar and the arch structure from below. This bridge structure is also supported with cable structure. Bamboo as a wide span structure has a negative side, the length of a bamboo is limited, so to achieve certain length that more than the length of the bamboo, bamboo is connected with another bamboo. This kind of structure will lose their strength. Hypar structure also have tendency to bend. The cables support the hypar to maintain their shape. The cables provide with a turnbuckle to adjust the tightness.

In this project, I was responsible to develop the design, mockup making, drafting the detailed engineering design, and check the site. I went to the site to look the existing and to mark the foundation coordinate. This mark would be drilled by the contractor to plant the anchor. This anchor will connected with the bamboo and the concrete base. The foundation at the end of the bridge uses a 2.5 meter deep foundation. It is used to guard against abrasion. With a foundation that is deep enough, the bridge can still stand when the sand surface have abrasion.

MARAWA BEACH RESTAURANT

Marawa Beach Restaurant is a facil-

ity inside Marawa Beach Resort. This restaurant was built first before the resort area. Located in Padang, this building become new icon with the unique architecture. This project is a collaboration project with Duwa Studio from Bandung. The concept design and the basic form create by Duwa Studio and then EFF Studio develop the bamboo restaurant.

The folded roof is supported with king post structure. This structure is decorated with bamboo so this king post look like chandelier. The interest thing from structure design in how to make the structure firm enough but the look still give awesome visual. The king post structure also resolve the lateral force because each king post connected with bracing structure. Bamboo is a material that must be protected from sun and rain. In this building, every part of the bamboo is covered by the roof. The entrance of the building use bamboo as a gate. To protect the gate, the roof on the front was designed from the zero level.

SAMABE BEACH CLUB

Samabe Beach Club is a part of Samabe Bali Suites and Villas. This facility located under the cliffs. To

access this place, people should use the elevator. With location that difficult to access, this beach club should be interesting enough to attract people to came to this place. This design still a concept. The basic form change several time. The principal architect gave a 2D sketch and then I developed it in mockup. The basic form came from the octopus tentacles as a roof. The main mass just acts as a entrance and a circulation to the beach. The tentacles roof covered the different facility, such as private dinning, public dinning, concert area, and beach chair area.

Riverfornt Villa

Made the concept design with mockup. The brief was to make a playful design. I made many form mockup with paper so the design can be more flexible. The design approach is make a playful shape and then defined the function inside that shape. When the specification of the function doesn’t fit, the shape will be adjust with the function until this two aspect fit.

Pakuwon Mall Interior Product

In this project, I had a chance to take apart for draw the worksheet and supervised the production. This project is a interior product for food stall in Pakuwon Mall Surabaya. This product made by aluminum pipe covered by sintetic rattan. There a four stand with different size. Each design made modular to make the transport and the installation easy.

Jakarta is prone to flooding city. The prob-

lem behind that cause is very complex. Land subsidence, lack of water absorption area, and lack of city planning are three of the many problems. This building was designed to answer those problems on a small scale.

This temporary shelter located in Muara Angke, North Jakarta. This area floods often because of rob. Land level in this area close to the sea surface level. This building accommodates citizens in Muara Angke to stay temporarily during the renovation of this area. The big idea of the existence of this building is to be a temporary shelter and a precedent to the future house in this area all at once.

Used shipping containers were used as the main module, support with steel structure, and scaffolding as a circulation module. Because this building is temporary, used material was chosen and the basic form is modular so when this building wasn’t used anymore, the demolition process can be easy. Vegetations and the wooden facade were used to block the rain and sun because the main problem with shipping containers is the hot interior. This building is raised one floor so the ground floor can be used as a water catchment area. Furthermore, this kind of building can be implemented for their new house, remember they live in a flood area. The modular form can be built in many areas, depends on how much they need the space.

Farming Space is a vegetarian restaurant and a public farming space. Density and lack of planted area become the main reason why this kind of function was choosen. The front building, that connects with the main street is a restaurant. Follow by a restroom and a mini-farm.The back building

is a public space to learn things about urban farming. This building connects with secondary access for citizens around this site. Urban farming becomes the main thing here. With this building’s existence, people can learn how to gardening in a limited space.

Pot medium or aquaponic can be found in this building. The urban farming issue is also the answer to pandemic problems. With the social distancing regulation, people will be difficult to access groceries. With urban farming, at least people can fulfill their daily food basic. The main module was made from a box form. Each box connects with the circulation on two floors level. Each box has a different kind of urban farming inside it. The public can learn how to do urban farming in each box. This area also produces food ingredients for the restaurant and to be sold to the citizens.

Daka

Leisure Hub is a revitalization project. There is an abandoned historical building in Bandung. Located in the city center, nearby public areas such as public plaza, great mosque, and other tourist destinations.

As support, this building provides a food stall and restrooms. The tourist in this area can rest in this building. This building also has a pedestrian bridge and mini-park inside. Basically, this space is a transit area for the tourist.

The heritage building regulations restrict the scope of design. The main building can’t be changed so we redesign the interior, also the building function so tourist wants to come to this building.

This design doesn’t expect the tourist to spend their time here. This facility just to amplify the existing tourist destination and connect the north and the south area. Those two areas don’t connect, so the pedestrians just want to go to one of these.

Located in the tourism area, this building was designed lately than a tourist destination in this area. To make new attractions in this area just will make the choices too much. We decided to design this building as a support facility. This building connected the existed attraction to the other.

The color scheme in this building is green and brown, came from vegetation and wood material. This colors were chosen because this building want to give cozy and comfortable atmosphere. As transit point, people want to rest in this area after traveling in this area.

Although this place is transit point, people still can get entertain with the facility inside this building. The mini-stage also give another atmosphere from the performers. The sky bridge was made curvy and irregular to give another experience to the visitors. The building is stiff enough so the circulation inside it was made contrary.
