Across Alberta, demand for health professional training continues to outpace available seats, leaving many qualified applicants without access to education.
The Northern Edge Technology Centre will create exponential value for learners, employers, and communities by strengthening education, supporting workforce development, and driving regional growth.
Training facilities and capacity must keep pace with the rapid growth and evolution of our communities and industries. Strengthening local education and career pathways is paramount to ensuring employers, essential services, and residents have the talent they need to thrive. Northwestern Polytechnic’s Northern Edge Technology Centre is designed to address one of northern Alberta’s most significant challenges: building the workforce needed to support growing communities, expanding industries, and essential services.
BUILT FOR WHAT’S AHEAD The 59,000 sq. ft. facility will create a futureready learning environment where students gain hands-on experience through modern equipment, advanced technologies, and adaptable spaces that reflect the workplaces of tomorrow. The NETC will support expanded health care programming including Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Combined Laboratory and X-Ray Technology, Medical Laboratory Assistant, and Medical Radiologic Technology. By bringing diagnostic health training closer to home, NWP will help build the skilled workforce needed to strengthen regional health services, improve access to care, reduce patient travel, and support healthier communities across northern Alberta.

Skilled trades are foundational to northern Alberta’s economy. Industrial expansion, operational maintenance, residential development, commercial construction, infrastructure, and resource development all depend on a steady supply of trained tradespeople.

From infrastructure and energy to environmental stewardship, industrial operations, and resource development, employers need a workforce that can combine technical knowledge, practical skills, and technology-enabled problem-solving.
