A MESSAGE FROM

ABBY WEBB Welcome to the 64th Season of Grande Prairie Live Theatre!

On behalf of the Board of Directors, it is my pleasure to welcome you to another exciting year of live theatre in our community. We are especially excited to welcome John Roper, our new General Manager, to the GPLT family. John brings new energy and enthusiasm to the theatre, and we are delighted to have him joining us as we continue to grow and strengthen our organization. We are also thrilled to celebrate Amy La Hay, who is directing her first production at GPLT. Amy has brought her creativity, dedication, and vision to this production. Congratulations, Amy, and thank you to you and the entire cast and crew for the time and talent you have poured into the show. And what better way to kick off our 64th season than with a comedy?! The Outsider (Smith) is a wonderfully funny reminder that life doesn’t always go according to plan. Sometimes, when everything starts to unravel, the best thing we can do is laugh. With politics, ambition, unexpected circumstances, and plenty of confusion, this show has all the ingredients for a great comedy. We hope it gives you a chance to relax, escape from everyday life, and enjoy a few hours of laughter with us. Every ticket purchased, every volunteer hour, and every word of encouragement helps keep live theatre thriving in our community. We are so grateful to have you with us as we begin another season. Sit back, enjoy the show, and most importantly, have a laugh! Abby Webb President, Board of Directors

The Grande Prairie Live Theatre respectfully acknowledges the Beaver, Cree, Dene, and Métis people as the original caretakers of these Lands and surrounding areas. We are grateful to live, learn, work and play on Treaty 8 territory within Turtle Island and acknowledge these Lands have been home to diverse and sovereign First Nations and Inuit Nations since Time Immemorial.

A MESSAGE FROM

AMY LA HAY My community theater journey started with many rewarding years with Stage North, beginning in 2014. I have had the pleasure of volunteering with GPLT since 2024, in both off-stage and onstage roles. This production of The Outsider (Smith) marks my first time stepping into the role of director, and I could not have asked for a more supportive and inspiring experience to begin that journey. At its core, The Outsider (Smith) offers a hilarious and unexpectedly poignant look at modern politics—exploring not only the absurdity and chaos of the public sphere, but also the humanity behind it. Beneath the rapid-fire comedy and sharp wit is a story about authenticity, courage, and finding your voice in a world that often rewards the opposite. Throughout this process, our cast has come together in the most wonderful way, truly evolving into a strong comedic ensemble. They have supported one another every step of the way—often through scenes rehearsed with tears of laughter in their eyes—and have embraced both the humour and the heart of this piece with remarkable dedication. Watching them build trust, take risks, and commit so fully to each moment has been an absolute privilege. I am incredibly proud of what this team has created together. Their collaboration, generosity, and joy have shaped this production into something truly special. It is my hope that you will not only share in the laughter tonight but also connect with the deeper moments that make this story so resonant. Thank you for being here and supporting live theatre. Amy La Hay Director

The Grande Prairie Live Theatre gratefully acknowledges the support provided by the City of Grande Prairie through Arts & Culture Operational & Performance Group Funding, the Government of Alberta through the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, the Government of Canada through the Canada Summer Jobs Wage Subsidy, Northwestern Alberta Foundation, and all corporate and private contributors.

His political comedy The Outsider won two Helen Hayes Awards in its Washington, DC premiere, where it was hailed as “a laugh-out-loud whimsical farce, as if Oscar Wilde has come back from the dead to write an episode of The West Wing.” His third play, Theatre People, Or The Angel Next Door, has happily hopped from theatre to theatre across the country since its 2023 world premiere. As an actor, Paul’s credits include the original Broadway casts of Finding Neverland, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and the Lincoln Center revival of My Fair Lady. CAST ORI HOMMY | Dave Riley 7 Stories during the 63rd season was the first play Ori ever attended (he went twice). It made him want to get more involved with GPLT; he attended 5 of the 7 plays last year, helped build the set for Looking Glass Land (although he was unable to see it!) and it inspired him to audition for “The Outsider (Smith)” for the 64th GPLT season opener. Ori’s only prior “acting” experience was running Dungeons and Dragons, so Dave being out of his depth is pretty relatable! Ori swears its real acting onstage, however, and not just constructively channeled panic. Everyone involved has been amazing to work with, extremely patient, incredibly understanding, welcoming, and helpful. We hope you enjoy the calamity.... err, comedy!

JENSEN REICH | Louise Peakes This is Jensen’s first production with GPLT, and she is thrilled to be acting again after ten years away from the stage. Jensen is delighted to be playing the effervescent Lulu Peakes, and she has had a blast working with this talented cast and crew. She would like to thank the director, Amy La Hay, for giving her the chance to be a part of this hilarious production. Jensen is so happy you are here supporting the show tonight and can’t wait to hear you laughing in the audience!

10 | GPLT 2026/2027 SEASON

ROGAN WOODFORD | Ned Newly Rogan Woodford is an actor from the GP area who got his start in theatre in a local production of Alice in Wonderland. No, it is not the one you’re thinking of. Yes, he is proud of his British accent. He has been in about six shows since, The Outsider (Smith) being his second with GPLT. Rogan is incredibly grateful to have been given the opportunity to help bring this play to life, and he is excited beyond words for you to finally be able to enjoy it. Rogan would like to thank his fellow cast members for embodying their characters incredibly, the crew for being the backbone of the show, and especially Amy La Hay for making it all possible. A special thanks to the Grande Prairie Live Theatre for giving us the space to make this political fever dream a reality.

JULIA MEYER | Paige Caldwell A storyteller and enjoyer in spirit, Julia is excited to be participating in her first full-scale production with Grande Prairie Live Theatre. Originally raised here in Grande Prairie, Julia’s spirit of performance first arose with a youth production of “The Wizard of Oz” through GPLT in elementary school. She hopes that this season of theatre won’t be your last, and that she will see you at future productions. Thank you for coming to see “The Outsider (Smith)”. Hopefully you will laugh as much as she did during rehearsals!

THE OUTSIDER (SMITH) | 11

CAST BECKY MAYER | Martha Vance This is Becky’s fourteenth production with GPLT. You may have most recently seen her in “Five Alarm”, or as her 5-year old granddaughter calls it “the hot pepper play grandma!” In her “real” life, Becky is a teacher, and has drawn from those experiences to help her character Martha “school” the politicians that she works with. In Martha’s mind, nobody does politics better than she does, and in Becky’s mind, nobody does comedy like GPLT. Enjoy the show.

CLARE OBORA | Rachel Parsons Clare never imagined she would become a regular at GPLT, but here she is—and she's loving every moment. The Outsider (Smith) marks her third production with the theatre, and each experience has challenged her in new and unexpected ways. Being part of theatre has opened her eyes to a different worldview. Stepping into a new character becomes an opportunity to create joy, spark conversation, and connect with others. This production is especially meaningful for her; as she sees it as a personal reminder that growth comes from stretching beyond her comfort zone. She is particularly drawn to The Outsider (Smith) because its themes reflect the political realities of today's society. Rachel, the character she portrays, refuses to be silenced by her boss's expectations and insists on asking the difficult questions that are at the heart of good journalism. Clare admires Rachel's courage and conviction, and she hopes to do justice to a character whose voice feels both timely and important.

SKIP THE QUEUE DURING YOUR VISIT Order your drinks before the show starts and they will be waiting for you at the intermission.

12 | GPLT 2026/2027 SEASON

MARK BORZEL | A.C. Peterson The Outsider (Smith) is Mark’s second project with GPLT, this time directed by Amy La Hay. He portrays A.C. Peterson, a quiet, down-to-earth news cameraman. Mark was drawn to The Outsider (Smith) by the play’s premise – “Sometimes the best person for the job is the one who doesn’t want to be there.’ He chose to audition for the role A.C for the challenge of non-verbal communication. Mark’s hope you enjoy the show and the rest of GPLT’s season.

The Outsider‛s Royalty Sponsor The Swan City Rotary Club is proud to support GPLT‛s incredible volunteers! Congratulations for 64 seasons of entertaining our Friends and Neighbours!

THE OUTSIDER (SMITH) | 13

CREW HALLIE McOUAT | The Assistant Hallie’s love of theater began in Valhalla Community School where she was Maria in The Sound of Music. That love grew more and more once she was introduced to GPLT. The Outsider (Smith) marks the 8th show with GPLT that Hallie has been a part of in the last 6 years. From on stage, to backstage, to the sound & lighting booth, and now as Assistant Stage Manager/Assistant Director. After taking a year off to grow her family, Hallie is excited to be back in the theater in this new role. She would like to thank her family (both theater and blood) for the immense support of diving back into the theater. Hope you laugh as much watching this show as the cast did during rehearsals!

SABINA GIBSON | Stage Manager Sabina is pleased to serve as the Stage Manager for “The Outsider (Smith)”. She has worked on many productions both onstage and behind the scenes, including Noises Off, 12 Angry Jurors, and 7 Stories. Sabina enjoys being a part of teamwork and creativity that bring each show to life. “The Outsider (Smith)” has been a fun and fast-paced production to help guide, and she is grateful to be a part of such a dedicated cast and crew. Sabina is so proud to be involved with Grande Prairie Live Theatre and appreciates the opportunity it provides to connect the community through live performance.

V WILDS | Backstage Manager This is V. They have been active at GPLT for a couple of years. Their experience has been onstage and backstage of productions such as Tick Tick Boom!, Fiddler on the Roof, and Shrek The Musical, to name a few. With love and laughs, V plans to bring the backstage to life for you in this production of “The Outsider (Smith).” Please enjoy.

A MESSAGE FROM

JOHN ROPER It feels remarkably fitting that my first production as General Manager of Grande Prairie Live Theatre is The Outsider (Smith).

At the heart of the play is someone unexpectedly stepping into a leadership role, finding himself in unfamiliar territory, and wondering whether he truly belongs there. As someone who is new to Grande Prairie, new to GPLT, and beginning a new chapter in my own life, I can certainly relate to that feeling. What I did not expect was how quickly the people of GPLT would make me feel that I was no outsider at all. That sense of belonging is part of what makes live theatre so important. Theatre brings people together. Not only the audience gathered for a shared experience, but also the actors, directors, designers, technicians, staff, and volunteers who work together to bring a story to life. It gives us a place to laugh, reflect, see the world through someone else’s eyes, and feel connected to the community. As GPLT begins its 64th season, I am struck by the generations of people who have built and sustained this organization. Sixty-four seasons of live theatre represent thousands of performances, countless volunteer hours, and an extraordinary commitment to ensuring that stories continue to be told on this stage. It is a remarkable legacy, and I am honoured to become a small part of it. The Outsider (Smith) is a wonderful way to begin this new season: funny, timely, and ultimately hopeful. I am grateful to the cast, production team, crew, volunteers, and everyone else whose talent and dedication brought this production to life. Thank you for joining us, for supporting live theatre, and for being part of GPLT’s 64th season. John Roper General Manager

We extend our sincere thanks to our outgoing 2025–2026 Board of Directors for their dedication, leadership, and service to Grande Prairie Live Theatre: Abby Webb, President; Alyssa Hudson, VicePresident; Mason Huckabone, Secretary; Cianna Forseille, Treasurer; Ben Driedger, Roxanne Gordey, Amy La Hay, and Linnea Fletcher, Members-at-Large. We are grateful for all they have contributed to another successful season.
