These judged activities include parade, color guard, drumline and field show. The morning begins with the bands participating in the Missouri Day Parade, presented by the Trenton Rotary Club and beginning at 8:30 a.m. The parade lines up at the intersection of Crowder Road and Main Street, continuing south on Main Street to Ninth Street before passing through the heart of the historic downtown area. The rest of the parade will finish at Bulldog Boulevard. The morning colorguard competition will be held in the Trenton High School gym, after which the drumline event will be starting in the early afternoon. Miss Missouri, Simone Esters, will be performing and will be available for pictures during the break in the drumline performances. There is no charge for events held inside the high school. The field show competition gets under way at 1:30 p.m. at C.F. Russell Stadium. Miss Missouri will also be performing on the field during a break in competition. SPORTS HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL - WEEK 7 TRENTON BULLDOGS
SOUTH HARRISON BULLDOGS

Trenton Competitive Again, But Losing Streak Continues
being a shabby team. (South Harrison) did a pretty good job.” Trenton punted on its opening possession, but held on four downs to chase South Harrison’s offense off the field. A 27-yard run by Dalton Burchett pushed Trenton into South Harrison territory and, a handful of plays later, Burchett was on the receiving end of a 14-yard touchdown pass from Schilling. A successful PAT kick had the Bulldogs leaping toward the sidelines with a lead and momentum – two things Trenton has seen little of this season. Neither would last long, however. South Harrison answered with a good kick return and a 15-yard penalty on Trenton for a hit out of bounds had the visitors starting their drive on the Trenton side of the 50yard line. One big run put South Harrison inside the 10 and, two plays later, South Harrison had the first of what would be four straight touchdowns – one in each quarter. A Trenton fumble – something the Bulldogs avoided entirely last week – set up South Harrison’s second quarter score. The visiting team opened the third quarter with good field position after Trenton was hit with a 15-yard penalty to open the second half after the halftime performance by the cheerleaders and, then, band got started late. Members of the band had not yet cleared the field when the halftime clock hit zero and the flag was dropped at the 50-yard line. The bizarre sequence spurred a short touchdown drive by South Harrison, putting Trenton down 22-7. That’s when the Bulldogs went to work, moving down the field on the two ill-fated drives that

were halted inside the South Harrison 25-yard line. “We came out, we had lots of fire and lots of energy,” Hixson said. “Defensively, I thought we played well. We came up with some big stops, but we just have to learn to finish, that’s the bottom line. We have to learn to finish a drive, finish a play.” Trenton would find the end zone with just over a minute left in the game on a one-yard run by Mark Trump. Trenton forewent the extra-point kick that would have given the game an identical score as the previous week’s game in Milan, trying for two instead. The two-point run failed, however, and Trenton took the loss by the 30-13 margin. Jaren Whitney led Trenton on the ground, going for 75 yards on 10 carries while Trump added 71 yards on a season-high 22 carries.
Trenton also had a decent night passing the ball. In addition to Burchett’s touchdown grab, Trenton saw Royce Jackson and Whitney each grab crucial receptions to convert a pair of third downs. Jackson caught his pass in traffic, taking a hit and holding on to move the sticks for the Bulldogs, Whitney got behind the defense, hauling in a 30-yard pass that put Trenton at the three-yard line and set up Trump’s touchdown run at the end of the game. Trenton did allow a pair of sacks and saw Schilling miss a few throws but, overall, the passing game was much improved from where it has been for Trenton this year. “Sam is getting better,” Hixson said. “He’s not the greatest passer, but he is working hard on it in practice. The pass he threw to Royce, we practiced that all week long. They are

Trenton High School quarterback Sam Schilling took the fourth-down snap and handed it to his back. The Trenton runner ventured into the fray where legs churned and arms pushed. When the officials uncovered the ball at the end of the play, the chains were brought in for a measurement. The chains revealed a sobering truth – Trenton was short. On back-to-back possessions in the third and fourth quarters, the Trenton Bulldogs marched down the field only to have the drive stall in the red zone. Both times the Bulldogs turned the ball over on downs. Trenton trailed South Harrison by two scores at the time and, figuratively, could have tied the game had those two strong possessions not fizzled out. But, this world is literal, not figurative. “What kills us is we take six, seven minutes off the clock and we don’t come away with points,” Trenton Head Coach Kevin Hixson said. “I’m not disappointed in the way we played, I’m just disappointed in the outcome.” The outcome was the seventh-straight loss this season as South Harrison topped Trenton 30-13 on Friday night at C.F. Russell Stadium. The score was nearly identical to the 30-14 loss the Bulldogs incurred a week earlier in Milan. That loss was met generally with optimism in and around the winless Trenton program. For a lot of the same reasons, Trenton remained positive in the face of their latest defeat on Friday night. “We played hard,” Trenton Head Coach Kevin Hixson said. “We played hard the whole game. We knew it was going to be a tough ballgame and you don’t get to be 6-0

doing well. It’s coming, but we are running out of time.” Moral victories are great for teams in dire need of anything positive, but they all lose effectiveness at some point. Trenton will have its best opportunity to get into the win column to date this Friday

bles bracket on Saturday in Chillicothe, advancing to individual sectionals in Warrensburg this Wednesday. The Trenton duo opened individual district play with a 62, 6-1 win over Chillicothe’s second doubles team. In the semifinals, Gott and Crowley faced off with a Richmond squad with a trip to sectionals on the line - the top two doubles teams and singles players advance. After taking the opening set 6-4, Gott and Crowley were handed a 6-4 loss in the second, forcing the match to a decisive third set. The Trenton tandem rebounded, picking up a 6-3 win to advance to the district finals and punch their ticket to sectionals. Though Gott and Crowley fell 6-1, 6-3 to Chillicothe’s top doubles team in the championship match, they still came away with second-place medals and a trip to Wednesday’s sectional. The duo weren’t the only Trenton players finishing the day with a medal. Morgan Dolan placed fourth in the singles bracket to bring home a medal as well. Dolan topped a Carrollton opponent 6-1, 6-2 in the opening round to advance to the semifinals. She then fell 6-0, 6-0 to a Chillicothe foe, relegating the Trenton player to the third-place match. Dolan lost 8-5 to an Excelsior Springs opponent to put an end to her season, but left districts with the fourth-place medal. “Lexi Gott and Kendall Crowley pulled out a big win over Richmond in three sets to ensure a spot at sectionals, Trenton Coach Tammy Ockenfels said. “Morgan Dolan played well, bringing home the singles fourth-place medal. Also in action for Trenton at individual districts was Alaina Overton, who lost 6-2, 6-3 in the opening round of the singles bracket. The duo of Gwyneth Foster and Mallory Sole won a play-in match 6-1, 6-1, but were bumped in the quarterfinals by a Chillicothe team, 6-1, 6-3. DISTRICT FINAL Trenton fell to Chillicothe on a cold Friday afternoon in the team district championship dual, 5-2. Gott and Crowley fell 8-1 and Foster and Sole lost 8-3 to put Trenton in a 2-0 hole. Dolan and Overton got Trenton on the board in the final doubles match, winning 8-6. In singles play, Dolan won again, defeating her opponent 6-2, 7-5. That would be Trenton’s lone win in singles play, however, as Gott lost 6-3, 6-3; Crowley fell 6-4, 6-0; and Foster was defeated 7-6 (8-6), 6-4. Mallory Sole split sets, winning the opener 7-6 on a 7-5 tiebreaker and dropping the second 6-2. She was in third set action when her match was suspended due to Chillicothe reaching its dualclenching fifth win. Overton also was unable to finish her singles match. She was in a tiebreaker when her match was stopped. “The girls gave it their all and I am very proud of them, Ockenfels said. “We lost, but the girls won more games during their matches than they have in their previous matches (with Chillicothe). With the loss, Trenton wrapped up its team season with a 7-8 overall record. Gott and Crowley will begin play at 4 p.m. in the individual sectional on Wednesday in Warrensburg. The Trenton duo will face District 16 doubles champions Jocelynn Kallauner and Megan Schussler of Savannah, with the winner advancing to state.
Charlee Scruggs, a freshman golfer at Lee’s Summit, qualified for sectionals after carding a score of 109 at the Class 2, District 7 Tournament in Kansas City. The score was good for a 23rd-place finish individually. After the top two teams were automatically advanced, Scruggs claimed the 14th of 15 individual qualifying spots. Scruggs is the granddaughter of former Trenton residents Glee and Donna Guess and the great-granddaughter of the late Donald and Mildred McCracken of Trenton. She is also the niece of Bob and Cindi McCracken, Bill and Lynda McCracken, the late Wendell Guess and Larry Guess, all of Trenton. She is the daughter of Chat and Jodi (Guess) Scruggs of Lee’s Summit.

Dear Annie: Myy neighbor has a huge tree growinng squarely in the middle of her yard. The tree is so big that a limb crashed down and broke paart of a fence I share with anotheer neighbor. I was left with the repair r and the cleanup. When I mentioned m this situation and my ssafety concern to the neighbor witth the tree, she responded, "Whateever falls onto your property is nnot my responsibility." My undderstanding is that I have a right to prune branches that might overhang my property, but iss it my obligation to hire a comppany, scale the tree and have it prruned? Isn't it the homeowner's responsibility to maintain this maassive tree and have it properly prruned so as not to endanger the w well-being and property of a neigghbor? -- "Arboring" a Grudge Dearr "Arborin ng" a Grudge: It sounds like youur neighbor is not acting very neeighborly. She is lucky that thhe limb only harmed the fence and not a person or animal. Whhile she might be correct that it iss not her technical responsibilityy, it should be her moral responssibility to help you with your fennce, especially because it was her tree that caused the damagee. Perhaps you

live in an assoociation where you can speak witth the head about the dangers off that tree. Sadly, if the tree is 1000% on your neighbor's lawn, it is her right to do with the tree what she wants. The only thinng you have the right to do is trrim the leaves that hang onto youur property. Dearr Anniee: I feel compelled to answer the gentleman who is anxious abouut aging. As a woman who iss 76 years young, I would like to ggive him a pep talk about growingg old. After going through breastt cancer, losing my best friend andd my husband, and having my daaughter diagnosed with (and curred of, thankfully) uterine cancerr, I felt depressed, saddened and hopeless. I made the decision to go for counseling, thee best thing I could have done. I w was urged to seek various comm munity activities to pull myself ouut of my depression and anxiety. At the sugggestion of a close friend, I starteed to attend a local church, whichh led to my joining a charitable w women's organization sponsoreed by the church. Next, I began aattending our town council meetinngs and was asked to join a com mmittee. Members who are much younger than I am

voted to appoint me the secretary. I am a founding member of a nonprofit organization that is a mixture of senior citizens and younger people. My most recent involvement is volunteering two days a week with a program titled "Lunch Buddies." This entails sitting with an elementary school student who may need a little company at lunchtime. The point I am trying to express is that the public sees you as you see yourself. If you present yourself as "over the hill," this is the perception that others will have, too. Yo You can find activities in your community that will improve your self-worth. As for me, I view you as a younger senior citizen. Don't worry about the next 10 years; none of us could put a target date on our demise. Enjoy each day as precious, and get out there and enjoy it. -- Enjoying My Golden Years Dear Enjoying My Golden Years: Bravo! Truly, you have made lemonade out of some lemons. Seeing a counselor, while it can be scary at first, sounds like it motivated you to get out of your depression and anxiety. Yo You now have a full and rich life. Congratulations and thank you for sharing your story. Each day is a gift, and receiving your positive letter made my day a little brighter.

Caan Tesla m make money?
Te T esla sold a re ecord 97,000 vehicles last quarter. Now Wall Street wants to know if it’s making enough per ve ehicle to stem losses and create sustained profits. Wall Street analysts doubt it. Those polled by y FactSet don’t e expect T Te esla to make even a s small profit until the final three months of 2020. In a note to investors, Wedbush analyst Daniel Ives wrote that third d-quarter earnings are a “fork in the road” moment, with T Te esla either showing g a path toward profits or staying on “this treadmill of kic cking the earnings can further down the
road.” CEO Elon Musk last year pledged to be profitable in the future, and the company made money in the third and fourth quarters. But production delays for the Model 3 small car and high costs drove it to lose more than $1 billion in the first half of this year. Analysts expect T Te esla to report an $83 million third-quarter net loss late this month or early in November. A big question is whether Tesla can gene Te erate profits on the Model 3, its lea ast-expensive model starting around $39,000. In the third qua arter, the Model 3 made up nearlly 80,000 of T Te esla’s sales.
Production trooubles: TTeesla is selling more vehiccles, but profits are a different storyy. Production delays and high costs are posing challlenges to making the cars profitablle. Tesla (TS SLA)
