Job Description:
Must be able to set up and operate precision metal working machine tools and machinery such as vertical and horizontal milling machines and heads, lathes, surface and universal grinders, drills and saws. Read, understand and use precision measuring instruments. Read and interpret complicated drawings. Ability to perform difficult die changes without detailed instruction. Able to layout and perform work on machine as required. Makes new pieces or parts using a drawing, pattern, old or broken part. May be required to work from verbal instructions. Judgment required to correct trouble spots in machinery and equipment. Some knowledge of heat treating required, plus working knowledge of metals and their physical properties. May be assigned to work with other people. Must be able to use shop math through trig. Must be able to calculate approximate blank sizes and develop blanks. Must be thoroughly familiar with necessary clearances and fits required in different type of dies and for different materials. Must be able to take part print and build simple dies to produce these parts. Must be capable of building complicated die from tool prints. Must be able to analyze and correct troubles in dies. Should be familiar enough with draw dies to estimate the effect of changing radii or pressures. (The last sentence will not be applied in considering the employment of a new employee.) Will handle die try out to determine if die produces a quality piece. If necessary will make minor adjustments to the die to produce a part to conform to specifications. Will determine if die is built according to blueprint—will check part produced to see if it is according to blueprint. Responsible for keeping work area clean and orderly and performs trucking as required. MISC.: Written examination may be given to determine qualifications. TOOLS: Normal trade tools furnished by employee. Specialized tools furnished by Company. Qualifications: Technical certificate in Tool & Die or 4 years’ experience. Must be qualified to perform the duties of the occupation in accordance with quality and quantity standards and to perform the physical, mental, and visual requirements of the job in a safe and efficient manner. Written examination may be given to determine qualifications.

One of the death benefits available to veterans and their immediate families is burial in a national cemetery. It is not possible to reserve a space in a particular cemetery in advance, and the one closest to your home may not have space available at the time of need. If proximity to your home is not important, however, space will be made available at the nearest cemetery that is not full. The spouse and minor children of a veteran are eligible for burial in the same cemetery, but it is not possible to obtain adjoining grave sites for family members.
When filing a request for burial with the superintendent of a national cemetery, the following information will speed up the request: date of birth, branch of service and grade, Social Security number, dates of active duty and manner of separation from the military. A funeral director can take care of filing for you, or you can do it directly.

WHEN 40 PHOTOGRAPHERS ARRIVE, SMALL-TOWN FOLKS GET CURIOUS
People from Mountain Grove, Mo., came to see what 40 photographers saw after a week in their town in the Ozarks. It was beautiful. It was the 70th annual Missouri Photo Workshop. Another record milestone, it was the 50th town documented. The photographers with help from a faculty of 10 showed 417 enlarged photos laid out on tables at the high school. Each table held 10 photos from a story. All of this goes into a state archive like no other in the nation. Co-director Jim Curley said the group joins some 2,400 photographers who have attended a photo workshop. They make a unique alumnus. The archive from all of those years of making pictures gains value with age. A few years ago the National Geographic drew on that collection to make a book called “Small Town America.” In addition in recent years, there were books made on each new town. Already there’s talk by Mountain Grove officials about making a book on their town. In my last visit with the mayor he said: “We will talk about this at the next city council meeting.” What a celebration.
It takes more than 40 photographers. It takes about that many more people to support their work. Those are MU journalism students. They experience the Missouri Method of teaching, learn by doing. The “doing” is far beyond my skills. It involves computer magic by young people who understand digital. It takes what seems like miles of cable to connect computers on work tables of faculty teams. They help students who make the show and archive happen. That’s beyond me. I can still do journalism for the week. I write a column printed in the daily “Rangefinder” a newsletter. I’ve spent about 40 weeks of my life in hands-on teaching at workshops. I learn by doing. It has a profound effect on journalism, even on agricultural journalism. So much has changed in just the years I’ve been connected with teaching and communicating It happened again this year. One of the subjects for the week was a cattle farmer who took my class on campus 31 years ago. He was photographed by a workshopper from Montana. At the show, the farmer took me to look at photographs of his cows. His compliment was:

“You understand what I do.” I did. He told of how he transformed a herd of “the worst sale barn cows” into a uniform herd influenced by MU Extension Show-MeSelect Replacement Heifer Program. MU protocols and new genetics speed progress. I understand the photojournalism side of this week and as well as the farm stories, Also, I understand Extension education. My contribution has been in adding educational know-how in teaching adults. Some who came to the show recognized me through my stories. A co-faculty member said: “People know you.” He was amazed. Me too I apply writing skills I’ve learned working for Missouri farmers. I also learn from working with small-town newspapers. As well as fellow faculty members on campus and in this extension teaching. It’s a pleasure at the end of the week to have workshoppers tell me: “I can understand your stories.” Like other faculty, I do it because I believe it. We all communicate better. A former journalist among the visitors expressed some of my concerns. The freedom of journalism in this country is not a given. We must defend the free press from politicians who want only adulation from the press. Can journalism be improved? Yes. That’s why we continue to help teach the next generation coming on.
