Many Georgians say they’ve noticed problems with their memory. But only a minority of them have received a diagnosis for their symptoms, meaning they a nd their families don’t have access to appropriate treatment and support.
For Georgians experiencing memory loss or cognitive decline, a referral to Georgia Memory Net could be a good next step. GMN provides accurate and accelerated diagnosis for Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias at Memory Assessment Clinics around our state, and via telemedicine.
The first step is to have a conversation with your Primary Care Provider to ask if a referral to GMN is right for you. Visit GaMemoryNet.org/referral to learn more about getting a referral to a GMN Memory Assessment Clinic.
Listen for special features on October 23 in celebration of Public Radio Music Day, including an interview with Georgia opera star Jamie Barton on Serendipity and more.

On Wed., Oct 23, noncommercial broadcasters across the nation celebrate the fifth annual Public Radio Music Day. This year’s theme, “Bringing People Together: From Coast to Coast,” highlights the ways music on public media bridges divides, unites audiences around a shared love of music and local artists and reaches across the country to serve urban and rural communities alike.
GPB gets in on the action throughout the day, online and on air. Keep an ear or eye out for our special content!
I’m especially excited that Georgia opera star Jamie Barton will be reminiscing with us on Serendipity (8 p.m. on GPB Classical, 10 p.m. on GPB Radio). These days her voice may ring out from the world’s most glamorous stages, but the award-winning mezzo-soprano’s story starts deep in the Pocket, the rural valley in Floyd County where she grew up. She’ll share fond memories of community bluegrass jams in the living room, harmonizing in church and a tantalizing radio signal from beyond the hills.
And there’s
Waycross’s cosmic swamp rock duo Pine Box Dwellers headlines an episode of GPB’s Peach Jam podcast, to be shared nationally via Public Radio Music Day’s platform. Visit gpb.org/peach-jam-podcast.
On City Café, John Lemley introduces the Augusta Symphony’s Symphony on the Road program, which brings their music to rural neighboring communities. Check it out at 1 p.m. on GPB Classical.
Grammy winning Atlanta hip-hop group Arrested Development speaks with GPB’s Kristi York Wooten about their career and new music on Morning Edition, heard 5–10 a.m. on GPB Radio and gpb.org.
NPR’s From the Top presents young musicians from rural areas and small towns from Louisiana to North Carolina in a special episode co-hosted by violinist/fiddler Tessa Lark and Peter Dugan, 10 a.m. on GPB Classical.
The GPB Education video series Instrument Quest introduces musical instruments to schoolkids in Georgia communities large and small, viewable at gpb.org/education/instrument-quest
Public Radio Music Day brings together stations, artists and fans in recognizing public radio’s essential community service and unique role in the music industry locally and nationally. This year the Alliance of Rural Public Media is also a partner. We hope you’ll listen to all that GPB has to offer.

Fans near and far enjoy the real-life stories shared weekly on The Moth Radio Hour on GPB. These stories may make us laugh, cringe, cry, or even gasp. They certainly all make us feel. The Moth has been celebrating the diversity and commonality of human experience through the art and craft of storytelling for 27 years. GPB is pleased to partner with The Moth for live storytelling events in Atlanta throughout the year. And whether you enjoy listening on the radio or via podcast, there is definitely something to be said for experiencing true stories told live in front of an audience.
The Moth holds monthly StorySLAM events in Atlanta. These are community-focused, open-mic storytelling competitions in which anyone can share a five-minute story on the night’s theme. Stories are scored by teams of judges selected from the audience, and a winner is announced at the end of the event. Ten local StorySLAM winners are invited to take the GrandSLAM stage for the ultimate storytelling competition. Moth Mainstage is the quintessential Moth experience, a two-act show featuring a musical act and five storytellers who develop and shape their stories with Moth directors.
Join us for a Moth storytelling event in Atlanta this fall!
