A Word From GPB President and Chief Revenue Officer Bert Wesley Huffman
Dear friends,
Now that we’ve landed solidly in 2022 with both feet on the ground, I hope you’ve settled into a new year (with resolutions still in tow)! Now that we’ve had time to look back on a very successful year-end for 2021, I want to take a moment to offer my thanks to you for making that happen! Amid everything going on in the world, we still had our most successful calendar year-end drive ever. That really says something about how much GPB means to you.
Over the last few years, we’ve made it our goal to introduce you to the philanthropic side of this organization. While we will always be a go-to destination for quality, entertaining and educational programming on television and radio, we are frankly so much more. The primary differentiator between us and our commercial counterparts is found within the pages of this book. We can bring this content directly to you in a unique way, offer opportunities for you to engage with it personally and locally, and perhaps most importantly, with your support we can ignite our mission of making our communities better and more informed.
So, yes, your gift of support provides anything from MASTERPIECE to All things Considered, and so much in between, but it is also a direct investment in a more civil, informed, more respectful and frankly smarter world. Thank you for helping us make this all possible. Literally, as I have said many times, it would be impossible without you.
If you’re “riveted” by the cover art you see on this month’s issue of GPB Next, then you ‘ll definitely want to tune in to American Experience: Riveted: The History of Jeans, airing Monday, February 7. It’s a fascinating look into something truly American. Programming on GPB TV this month will also highlight the commemoration of Black History Month with programs including Fannie Lou Hamer’s America, February 22. And we’ll continue that theme on radio with a deep dive into one of my all-time favorite public radio programs, Snap Judgment. And, in that vein of bringing it directly to you in the communities where you live, there will be some unique opportunities for engagement around Finding Your Roots and virtual events focused on genealogical research for minority and marginalized populations. Read more about that in our Community Engagement spotlight on page 16.
It may be the shortest month, but we really know how to fill it with impactful experiences and unique content that gets you thinking. We look forward to continuing to bring you that and so much more as we move further into 2022.
Stay warm, stay safe and stay tuned to GPB!
Warmest regards,
BWH
