Season of Giving “Thank you for your excellent reporting. Georgia needs you.” – Kara L, Savannah

gpb next magazine Dear Friend,
December has arrived with its unique blend of pageantry and warmth. And here at GPB, we’re thinking of you, and the kindness you have shown us this year. Without the generous support of viewers and listeners like you we wouldn’t be able to bring you the very best in public media day after day. And, as we enter our annual Season of Giving, I hope you might consider adding something extra to your current giving before year-end. From a budget perspective, it’s been a challenging year for us at GPB. The combination of reduced state funding and increasing dues to PBS and NPR have led to some difficult decisions from a local content perspective. We want to continue being the GPB that brings you not only quality programming, but quality perspective offering insight and clarity about the world around you. So many of you in Georgia and beyond benefit from our unique service. Outside of GPB, the world is experiencing challenging times this holiday season. War continues to ravage Ukraine and the Middle East, while fear of recession and economic challenge are on the rise here at home. Remember that it is GPB that brings you that context about what’s happening in the world through our quality news and informational programming, documentaries and educational series that enlighten and bring clarity. We are a fundamental building block to a civil society – to democracy itself. And your support of GPB goes a long way in protecting and promoting those tenants. Add these vital efforts to the joy PBS and GPB programming brings into your life, our continuing efforts to provide unique services to underserved audiences around the state through community engagement programs and our vital educational offerings in classrooms and homes across the state, and you have an organization that does so much good in Georgia. Thank you for being part of that. As a final gift to you this year, we bring you our Season of Giving programming all month long on GPB TV. Later in this issue of GPB Next you can read about the holiday-inspired programming that we hope will serve as a backdrop to new memories for your family all season long. Please enjoy and know that it is offered with you in mind. And, from all of us here at GPB, please accept our wishes for the a healthy, safe, warm and blessed holiday season. Warmest regards,
Bert Wesley Huffman GPB President and CEO

“We talk to every single head coach playing in the championships to go over rosters, depth charts, storylines - anything you can think of for each game,” said Hannah, who will mark her seventh GHSA Championship this year. “I meticulously map out every single show and prepare a backup plan for anything and everything that could go wrong. Three days of live TV can be unpredictable, so you have that Hannah Goodin
much more prepared!”
As a 27-year veteran of GPB Sports, Jon said he’s had many memorable moments, but there is one that comes immediately to mind. “It’s sharing the stage with Irwin County Head Coach Buddy Nobles as Irwin County won the state title as he was fighting cancer.
