eloved, betrayed and beheaded, Anne Boleyn is England’s most infamous queen. The second wife of Henry VIII, she was tried on his orders for crimes of adultery and treason, led from her rooms at the Tower of London to her

death by an executioner’s sword.

To fully understand Anne’s rise and fall, it’s important to know more about her tight-knit, cunning and power-hungry family. Based on 16th-century sources, including rare original letters and documents, this new three-part series uses insights from leading Tudor scholars and dramatic re-enactments to bring this story to life from the family’s own perspective.

Rising from obscurity to the apex of power, the Boleyns played a dangerous game and paid the ultimate price, all while changing the course of British history.

Thomas Boleyn, Anne’s father (Max Dowler)

Patriarch Thomas Boleyn is determined to elevate the family name. But it is his ambitions for his three children — Mary, George and Anne — that will take them to the heart of the Tudor court.

Recognizing that Anne is extraordinary, he places her in the most influential courts in Europe from the age of 12. Along with other noble families, Thomas jostles for Corpse positionflower in a court rife with gossip, backstabbing rivalries and intrigue.

Episode 2 - Sunday, Sept. 4 “Desire”

George Boleyn, Anne’s brother (Sam Retford)

Henry casts Mary Boleyn aside and turns his attention to her sister. A calculating courtier, Anne adeptly dazzles with her beauty, wit and seductive charm. Henry falls under her spell, and Anne does what all Boleyns do: makes good use of an opportunity.

She positions herself as a woman of power and refuses to become his mistress, skillfully leveraging his desire for her to negotiate a marriage proposal.

Episode 3 - Sunday, Sept. 11 “The Fall” In a high-stakes gamble, Anne makes her play for — and wins — the biggest prize in the kingdom. The Boleyns and their allies push Henry to break with the Catholic Church in Rome and claim his destiny as Supreme Head of the Church of England, overturning 1000 years of history.

A first, second and third place winner was selected for each grade. Each grade level also had a STEAM winner-ones that best incorporated science, technology, engineering, arts or mathematics.

During an awards ceremony held in June at GPB’s headquarters, winners and their families enjoyed a visit from PBS Kids character Arthur, learned about pollinators with special guest author and PBS KIDS Early Learning Champion, Andrea Zoppo, and got to record their award-winning stories in our GPB radio studios.

GPB NEWS WELCOMES REPORT FOR AMERICA CORPS MEMBER

S

of i Gratas has joined GPB News as a Report for America Corps member. Report for America is a national service program that places

talented emerging journalists in local newsrooms to report on under-covered topics and communities across all 50 states.

Based in GPB Radio’s Macon bureau, Gratas’ coverage includes rural communities in Middle and South Georgia. Her reporting focuses on the worsening public health and healthcare crisis facing

rural communities that consistently rank near the

bottom nationwide. She examines the root causes for these challenges and whether proposed solutions are working or making a difference. Her reporting will be featured on GPB and in Public Health Watch, a non-profit newsroom focused on public health reporting in a collaborative partnership with GPB. Gratas graduated from the University of Georgia’s Grady School of Journalism in December of 2020 with a bachelor’s in journalism. While in Athens, she worked at The Red & Black, and most recently WUGA. She also interned with GPB in 2020.

PB Sports’ Jon Nelson says he’s ready to travel the state again as he prepares for GPB’s coverage of the upcoming high school football season through regular game of the week broadcasts during Football Fridays in

Georgia, the Football Fridays in Georgia podcast and additional programs including Countdown to Kickoff and Recruiting 2022.

Describing last year’s “Southern Swing” and “Central Swing” through the state with fellow GPB Sports team member Wes Nichols, Nelson says the storytelling aspect of GPB’s high school football coverage through school visits and talking with the coaches is the one of the most fun parts of his job.

“What we’re able to do at GPB is be well-rounded in our approach,” said Nelson.

“It’s not just about the game or the high-profile athletes. It’s about everything that envelops the spirit of Friday night football.”

eorgia has become the epicenter for the national con versation about who gets to vote and how those votes are counted. In the last few years, many changes have been made through the courts and the court of public opinion.

GPB is pleased to join the America Amplified Election 2022 initiative to ensure that Georgia’s citizens have the facts they need to participate in local, state and Congressional elections in the fall.

The Election 2022 initiative launched earlier this summer, and we invite you to submit your election-related questions that we will answer using nonpartisan election information resources.
