In fall 2021, Gamma Phi Beta hired Historical Research Associates, Inc. (HRA) to conduct research on the history of racism and discrimination within Gamma Phi Beta, contextualized within the larger history of racism and discrimination in fraternities and sororities. About a year later, HRA submitted a 100+ page report to International Council that uncovered the unwritten rules of discrimination in the Sorority’s membership selection process. This issue’s cover story (Page 14) was taken from that report. In regard to why we are publishing this story in The Crescent, International President Autumn L. Hansen (Idaho) notes in her opening letter (Page 16): “When sisters read this issue of The Crescent far into the future, I hope they see that we were learning and growing, understanding the ways our ignorance was limiting the strength and capacity of our sisterhood and seeking something better.”
