ARIES

March 21 - April 19 A new addition to your routine may be in the works. Whether this involves work that produces additional income or is of a voluntary nature, you can expect your tasks to change in some way, probably for the better.

TAURUS

Popular Libra

Amber Rose

April 20 - May 20 A new romance is definitely in the air. This could be a renewal of the romance within a current relationship or, if you're single, someone new and exciting might cross your path.

GEMINI

May 21 - June 20 If you have had to abandon a certain plan because your sugar honey is in a 'mood' and acting like a prima donna, then so be it. You know how they can be, and there's not much use in trying to change their mind. You also know that there is someone else who has just been dying for a chance to show you a good time. So why not go and enjoy yourself?

Born: October 21, 1983

FUN FACTS - She’s really a brunette - She has been shaving her head twice a week since she was 19 years old - She’s never had plastic surgery

LIBRA

September 23 - October 22 Giving ourselves the benefit of the doubt is something we all sometimes need help with. As we are so committed to a better future for ourselves and our loved ones, there is a tendency to judge harshly. However, the burden of responsibility does not rest with you alone! Give yourself the freedom to take care of yourself first, not the whole world!

CAREER Normally your brain is quite scattered and indecisive. The good news is that you will be able to detach yourself emotionally from a certain situation so that you can see it with more rational and unbiased eyes.

2

"Follow your heart"

SAGITTARIUS -

CANCER

June 21 - July 22 A new, exciting neighbor could move in near you. If you're single, this person might be a potential romantic partner. If you aren't, you could make a new friend. When you meet, you could hit it off immediately and talk for hours. But don't monopolize this person's time. You won't want to disrupt the moving process. Don't be shy about seeking this person out later.

LEO

July 23 - August 22 The day ahead does not bode well for romance. In fact, you may find your loved one in a very unsporting mood. Not only do they not want to come out and play, they don't even know if they want to play ever again, especially with you. As you tend to be fairly thickskinned, you can brush this off. The mood will pass; but perhaps the memory will linger.

go_weekly

VIRGO

August 23 - September 22 Transformation of your life, even your very being, may have been in the works for some time. Dreams come true, perhaps in an unconventional and unexpected manner. Don't move too quickly or eagerly. Think carefully before committing to any plans. Don't be afraid to consult others. Move cautiously and good fortune will follow.

SCORPIO

October 23 - November 21 You dislike days like this, when your loved one seems somewhat cold and distant. Although there may seem to be a wall separating you, it is perhaps best to leave your partner alone to stew. They need to mull a few things over and will back out again to play when they know where they stand.

SAGITTARIUS

November 22 - December 21 No matter what you've been involved with up to now, education could attract you, perhaps involving metaphysical or philosophical subjects. Is transforming your working life the right thing to do now? Only you know. Bear in mind that this opportunity may be a gift from the Universe. Follow your heart.

CAPRICORN

December 22 - January 19 You are in the spotlight and everybody knows it. Take this opportunity to create a new reputation for yourself. Show others that when you are under pressure and being judged by everyone around, you can hold yourself together with confidence.

AQUARIUS

January 20 - February 18 Your dreams may hold the key to your future financial success. Though the symbols that your unconscious sends could be obscure, just take a deep breath and think it through.

PISCES

February 19 - March 20 Have you been thinking about getting married? If so, you could be surprised to learn that your significant other has been thinking the same thing. This could be the end of a long period of uncertainty.

Demi Lovato: Falling in love with herself!

She was invited by the linguistics faculty and by Dr. Eva Eckkrammer to perform at the Arkadentheater at the University of Manheim in Germany on October 4th. Dr. Eva Eckkrammer visited Curaçao earlier this year with approximately 25 students The purpose of their trip was to learn about our culture, our food, our people and most importantly our language. Eckkrammer fell in love with island in the 90’s and has been fascinated by our language ever since. On October 4th (under the guidance of Eckkrammer) the students held an exhibition and presentation to share with the audience everything they learned during their journey in Curaçao. Tamara was asked to perform along with Stanley Clementina. The highlight of the evening was when the students joined Tamara to sing the classic song “Atardi” in papiamentu.

Demi Lovato is planning to stay single for the near future, so she can learn to "fall in love" with herself. The ‘Cool for the Summer’ hit maker parted ways with longtime love Wilmer Valderrama in June, 2016, and she went on to enjoy brief romances with mixed martial arts fighters Luke Rockhold and Guilherme Vasconcelos, who she broke up with in early May (17) after going public with their relationship last December (16). Demi is now enjoying the single life and insists she has no desire to get back into a serious relationship until she finds herself.

We all know a family member, a friend or even a co- worker who has fought against the big C. Awareness is of utmost importance. Each month of the year is dedicated to bringing awareness to different types of cancers around the world. October for instance, focusses on breast and liver cancer. Breast cancer is one of the most frequently seen types of cancers amongst women, but this disease does not discriminate. It affects everyone in our society and various parts of our body as well. Treatment is possible and researchers work day and night to come up with better protocols to fight it. Seeing a grown up going through the different phases of this disease is heartbreaking. Imagine if it was your child going through it. Lorrie Cramer did. By: Miguel Gonzalez Perret-Gentil

Giving up was never an option In 2006 her son was diagnosed with Burkitt Lymphoma. This is a form of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in which cancer starts in immune cells called B-cells. Recognized as the fastest growing human tumor, Burkitt lymphoma is associated with impaired immunity and is rapidly fatal if left untreated.

Lorrie went through difficult times but is grateful and happy

8

He was only 12 years old when diagnosed with Burkitt Lymphoma stage 4 cancer. This meant that an aggressive treatment was necessary. Treatment was administered in The Netherlands since we don’t have the resources to battle childhood cancer here on the island. Treatment lasted

for almost a year. The cancer had spread into his bone marrow, lungs and in the Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) which is a clear, colorless body fluid found in the brain and spinal cord. Doctors warned the family about the harshness of the treatment, but if he could withstand the treatment he would have a 75% chance of surviving. The treatment itself could have killed him. Chemo therapy was a major part of the protocol. During sessions he was sometimes adminis-

tered with high dosage injections of chemo therapy which were directly inserted into the bone marrow. He also went through a total of 3 surgeries. In the end he prevailed and just recently celebrated with his family his 10th year anniversary in total remission.

One step at the time According to Lorrie, when your child is first diagnosed with Cancer, or any illness for that matter, you don’t know how you will react. "The Doctor tries to be as careful as possible when giving the news. So he told us that there was a growth. I asked him, 'you mean a tumor?' And that’s how

9

it started." Lorrie further explained that it either hits you like a brick or it takes a good while to sink in. "It becomes reality when you realize that you have to pack and catch a flight to The Netherlands for treatment. Fear kicked in. I didn’t know anyone there. I didn’t know the culture nor any of the doctors there. I prayed for strength to be able to deal with it all, to be the mother my child needed me to be." She was never angry she explained. Anger clouds our judgment and fills the heart with resentment. At a critical moment like that, all you really need is love. Believe it or not, as terrifying as this experience was, it did not come without its blessings in disguise. After seeing what her child went

through, Lorrie vowed to do something with this experience. There is no point in being grateful without returning the favor. So she started getting involved with different foundations. "I started working with Prinses Whilhelmina Fonds in 2011. Their specific mission is to support cancer patients and families here on the island, but up to that moment it was hard for them to reach the sick children. Once a child is diagnosed with cancer, they are immediately send to The Netherlands. I wanted to focus all of my energy on setting up a program that could help children and their families as much as possible before leaving abroad for treatment. Cancer does not only affect the person whom is ill, it affects all members of that family! Some

The Ronald McDonald House Charities Curaçao Foundation aims to support families that are going through difficult times because of their sick child. The volunteers are invaluable to run the family room day to day operations and also assist in organizing the annual fundraising events. To volunteer for the family room program you can contact RMHC at +5999 462-1645 or go to www.rmhc-curacao.org for more information.

parents even lose their jobs when going abroad for their child’s treatment. Siblings are affected as well, their performance often suffers at school. They need a support system." Because of the relationships she had previously built in The Netherlands, she was able to reach out to different entities to ensure that these families would get the help they needed once they traveled abroad.

It all starts with a smile It was in the beginning of 2010 that the Ronald McDonald house was founded here in Curaçao by Claudia Rigaud (who is the current Executive Director) along with Lorrie who is one of the founding members. "We focus on helping every single family whose child is in the hospital. Not only cancer patients. We sit with the parents, we mediate, we serve them a meal, and we show them emotional support during dire times." It’s not out of guilt that she started volunteering but out of gratitude that her family was able to survive this ordeal. She simply wants to do something for someone who is going through the same roller coaster that she and her son faced. "Our whole family is very much involved with the Ronald McDonald House. We do what we can to help those in need, together with other foundations such as the Prinses Whilhelmina Fonds." Lorrie is well aware of how lucky she is. She is grateful and happy, making sure to never take things for granted, but most importantly, she makes time to ease the pain of those who need it the most.
