Kristen Bell entertains while stuck in Florida Kristen Bell was stuck in Florida over the weekend and helped brighten the day for a group of Hurricane Irma evacuees.

Our very own Jean-Julien Rojer and Romania's Horia Tecau pressed for social justice and racial equality on Friday after winning the US Open men's doubles title for their second Grand Slam crown.

Jean-Julien who was wearing a yellow shirt with a drawing of the Statue of Liberty, said the clothing was inspired by last month's confrontation between extreme right demonstrators and counter-protestors in Charlottesville, Virginia, that left one person dead.

"The idea came after the tragic incident in Charlottesville and we came up with this line promoting peace and freedom and liberty," Rojer explained He has another shirt with people locking arms in a civil rights march. Tecau added that as champion athletes they had an obligation to spread a message of racial equality and social justice.

The 'Frozen' star performed for a group seeking shelter at Meadow Woods Middle School in Orlando, Florida.

Bell had encouraging words for those taking shelter.

We don’t get to choose our family, destiny does that for us. Regardless of their faults and short comings, we do love them unconditionally. After all, blood is thicker than water. Television and documentary director Shamira Raphaëla knows this all too well. Shamira was born in the Netherlands.

Her mother is Dutch, her father and brother are from Curaçao. She grew up in Aruba and studied Art in the Netherlands. Life handed her lemons, so she made something out of it.

Her own version of a bittersweet lemonade.

She is 34 and worked her way up the ladder for different media giants in the Netherlands as a freelance television and movie director. Her name might not tell you much, but you might recognize her work. She has worked as a director for 'Expeditie Robinson' (Dutch version of 'Survivor') but it is her work as a documentary director that sets her apart.

Getting personal Shamira likes to play with the perception and prejudice of her viewer with her work. She is currently working on 4 different documentaries. One of them is about the extreme right movement in the Netherlands. The question a lot of people probably have is, why?

"I challenge myself to make films about topics in which the ‘bad’ guy can be 'good' and vice versa.

Because life is not black and white.

In my films I strive to look for the gray areas. So in this specific documentary about the extreme right, I try to approach my topic with an open mind, I try to submerge myself in 'the other' and search for similarities, those things that make us human. Because even though one may not agree with the stands they take, demonizing or denying their existence will not make the current racial tensions in

our society disappear. We have to face our fears, as I believe that the only way to grow closer as a society is to truly try to hear, see and understand one another. At the end of the day, we all have a story to tell".

Her father Pempy and brother Andy have a tale of their own to share with the world.

Choices are usually followed by consequences. Pempy learned this the hard way. Andy followed in his father’s footsteps. He seems to be caught up in a life of crime and drugs, leaving a trail of pain behind for those he loves.

Growing pains Pempy and Andy think and act differently to what is expected from Dutch society. Pempy moved to the Netherlands in the early 80’s. Seeking a better life for his family. Believing that he could make it happen with his charismatic personality and driven mindset. He was wrong. He arrived in a country where foreigners are sometimes isolated from society.

Feeling defeated and demotivated, he started making the wrong choices. He started selling drugs and subsequently started using them. A vicious cycle was born. "It became routine to him. He’s been in and out of prison for about 20 years. During the summer he’s out, and by winter time he makes sure he gets arrested in order to face the cold weather in a warmer

Deal with it Since the early 2000’s Shamira had this idea in her head. Why not tell their story? Why not show the world, that out of so much pain and anger, combined with constant struggles, one thing remains intact: The love they have for each other. Before embarking on this emotional rollercoaster that would expose her feelings, she had to make sure that she could emotionally

deal with it. So by 2009, she decided to begin. "I started approaching producers around 2009 to start with the process. It’s longer than you would think. Everyone was like, 'you don’t have the experience in the film world', and 'you only do commercial TV'. Everyone doubted me. It took me 2 years to find a production company to work with and then you still need to sell your plan to a TV station and then you can apply for funding, but I kept fighting".

"Although I felt vulnerable by the idea of exposing my family’s life (and my own), I knew I had to see it through.

My job as a director is to portray people’s most intimate emotions by

simply using my lens. Wouldn’t it be hypocritical if I didn’t point that lens in my own direction at some point in life? So I approached my Director of Photography, Jefrim Rothuizen and explained to him that I did not have any funds yet, but that didn’t matter to him. He believed in me and in the project so much that we started filming right away".

Her goal was reached. She set out on this journey to show the struggles of a family united by love.

To emphasize how the choices our parents make, might influence our lives. Whether they are conscious ones or not.

"I wanted people to see the softer side of my father and my brother and I want people to understand why Andy is the way he is. Our upbringing and the choices our parents make, (Pempy in this case) have a direct influence in our lives. I didn’t become a dealer, nor did I get involved with criminal activities but I choose someone like my father as my partner, an addict.

Ironic isn’t it?"

The movie was completed in 2015 and immediately started touring around the world. 'Deal with it' was screened in: New York, Las Vegas, Paris, Russia, Trinidad and Tobago and in Haiti where it was translated in patois and it was the opening film at Havana, Cuba for the Traveling Film Show case which screened the movie around the Carib-

bean and Venezuela. It won 'Best Documentary Feature' in Belize and at the Los Angeles Urban Film Festival. In the Netherlands it was nominated for the 'Debut Award' at the 'Nederlands Film Festival' and it also won the Caribbean spotlight and audience award at the Aruba Film Festival in 2015. Hopefully Curaçao will be next in line to screen this must see documentary.

The reception was unexpected and overwhelming at times but most importantly, Pempy and Andy were proud.

They were filled with joy to see, how their story of struggle and misery could become the film it is today. A film exposing the most vulnerable moments of 3 individuals with different goals in life. One thing in common they have; they all learned how to deal with it.

Season the chicken. Heat the oil in a 10-inch skillet over medium-high heat (make sure the skillet and oil are hot before adding the chicken - it will jump start the browning and prevent the chicken from sticking.). Add the chicken and cook for at least 3 minutes before turning (if it doesn't turn easily give it another minute on that side) then cook until both sides are well browned. Remove the chicken from the skillet.

Add the onion and mushrooms to the skillet and cook until tender-crisp, stirring occasionally. Add the wine and heat to a boil, stirring to scrape up the browned bits from the bottom of the skillet. Pour in the soup and heat to a boil.

Return the chicken to the skillet.

Reduce the heat to medium-low.

Cover and cook for 5 minutes or until the chicken is cooked through.

Season to taste.

Ingredients - 1¼ pounds skinless, boneless chicken breast halves - 1 tablespoon vegetable oil or olive oil - 1 large onion, diced (about 1 cup) - 2½ ounces mushrooms, sliced (about 1 cup) - ½ cup dry Marsala wine - 1 can Campbell's® Condensed Cream of Mushroom Soup
