ARIES

March, 21 - April, 19 Relationships of all kinds become stronger and more enduring. Successes boost the strength of business partnerships; love relationships advance to the next level of commitment. Bonds of any kind formed now are likely to be strong ones, marked by honesty, loyalty, and affection. This is a great day to get together with anyone close to you; your relationship is very likely to grow because of it. Wellness In the spiritual sense of things, you may be feeling like you can't believe your eyes. It's time to focus your inner eyes on what you feel to be lacking in the human race. Consuming the herb known as "eyebright" in brewed tea, or beta-carotene found in carrots, apricots and cantaloupes, will help strengthen your ability to trust what you see. Your insights could very well help lead the way out of an unfortunate situation.

2

May, 21 - June 20 Have you been thinking about taking a course in one of the arts? Whether your preference is painting, music, drama, dance, or creative writing, if you commit now, you'll probably continue with it. The practical arts of cooking, building, or interior decoration are also possibilities.

CANCER

June, 21 - July, 22 If you own your own home, Cancer, you may learn that its value has increased substantially. If you don't own a home but want to buy one, this is the time to start looking. You might look at your living room or backyard and suddenly find yourself redecorating it in your mind's eye. If you've wanted to start some sort of longterm project to improve your surroundings, this is the day to get started.

SAGITTARIUS

November, 23 - December, 21 As a person who enjoys being gregarious and outgoing, days like this provide a wonderful outlet for your energy. You might spend a lot of time with your family but you'll also probably touch base with many others. At some point you might find yourself in the spotlight.

CAPRICORN

November, 22 - January, 20 Corporate kudos and increased income that you may have been working toward for a long time may finally manifest. Your effort and energy haven't gone unnoticed. What you're doing now has impressed those in a position to advance your interests.

July, 23 - August, 22 Some down-to-Earth conversations with a love partner could result in advancing the relationship to the next level of commitment. The communication should be loving and supportive, but practical matters like money, work, and personal habits could be discussed.

AQUARIUS

VIRGO

PISCES

August, 23 - September, 22 The desire to make a particular purchase could have you reworking your budget. This is a good time to do this, as your business and money sense are operating at a high level, and you're likely to be savvier about finance than usual.

January, 21 - February, 20 This is a great day to deal with legal matters of any kind, including plans for a wedding, if one is in the offing! Your financial situation should be thriving and stable, and long-term educational goals may come to the forefront. February, 21 - March, 20 A keen ability on your part to blend the worlds of intellect and intuition could well surface t. The ability to focus both these methods of perception into material reality is apt to give a boost to your career and educational efforts.

Miley Cyrus and Alicia Keys join The Voice. Miley Cyrus and Alicia Keys have been announced as the new judges on The Voice.

Hip hop mogul Sean 'Diddy' Combs is launching a charter school in New York. The Capital Preparatory Harlem Charter School will open in the autumn (16) in Combs' hometown and will provide free public education for children in grades six through 12.

"Creating this school is a dream come true for me"

It is not clear how involved the rapper/producer will be with the school, but he has hired Capital Prep Magnet School founder Steve Perry to oversee the school and Florida-based educator Danita Jones as the principal, according to FoxNews.com. "Creating this school is a dream come true for me," he says. "I want to impact the lives of young people in my community, and build future leaders. "The first step is offering access to a quality education. Every young person should have the tools they need to succeed. All our children should be able to pursue their dreams. That is something I can impact with this school."

Current judges Christina Aguilera and Pharrell Williams will be leaving after the tenth series comes to an end.

Rolling Stones play Cuba to 1.3 million The Rolling Stones have performed their first ever show in Cuba to an estimated audience of 1.3 million. The Stones are the biggest act in the world to play in Cuba since President Obama opened trade with the communist nation for the first time in 50 years. ‘Jumping Jack Flash’ became the first Stones song ever played live in Cuba. The original song was released just six years after John F. Kennedy started the trade embargo in 1962. Mick Jagger told the audience “We know that years back it was hard to hear our music in Cuba, but here we are playing. I also think the times are changing.” The Stones performed for free for their Cuban fans at the Havana Sports City football field. Half a million count it into the venue with the remainder of the audience watching on screens from around the city.

More Philia!

HAPPY HOUR EVERYDAY FROM 7PM - 9PM

By: Ruvette Dirksz

SPECIAL

Throughout our lives we’ve been taught to love one another, this love is called Philia. There are at least 3 other ways of loving; Agápe a spiritual love, Eros an erotic kind of love and Philia a love and respect between equals. It’s the kind of affection we boast for the lives of one another. What grabs my attention more these days is the ‘kind-of-love’ we have in our community. We do not ‘love’ the way we used too, neither the way are supposed to. You love what you value. Is it fair to say we don’t value each other? As, being disrespectful and greedy have taken the forefront;

“I love you, because you can do something for me and when you stop doing that, I run out of lovethat is wrong”

and wanting to be more and having more are much more important. Nothing wrong with the above; everybody’s life mission should be to ‘juice’ this life. It’s wrong when, what we have- becomes more important than who we are. It’s what you do with what you have that matters the most. “I love you, because you can do something for me and when you stop doing that, I run out of love- that is wrong”. Philia is expressed as loyalty to friends, family and community and requires virtue, equality and knowledge. Have a look around and see if this ‘concept of love’ developed by Aristotle is a reflection of our community today. We need More Philia.

GOWEEKLY 13 2016 COVER STORY

Jemyma Betrian: The love of the ďŹ ght She has always been a rebel, never wanting to fit in with the crowd. Going left when everybody went right. Going to Taekwondo when all the other girls went to ballet. She put that rebelliousness to good cause by becoming one of the best female fighters in the world. Jemyma Betrian has won almost every prize there is to win in her career, but she is still hungry for more. She is currently on a break from fighting and is now giving seminars and training other fighters, but she still has her eyes on the big prize. Text: Hayson Nicholls | Photography: Nestor G. Zavarce

8

COVER STORY GOWEEKLY 13 2016

Who's the girl behind the fighter? ‘I am currently 25 years old. I started fighting at a young age, because I was very energetic. When my parents divorced I was looking for attention in all the wrong places. My mother enrolled me into Taekwondo. It was kind of boring actually, but it helped me burn off excess.’

You are currently practicing kickboxing. How did that transition come about? ‘I had a few friends who told me about a new gym opening in our neighborhood and they were giving kickboxing lessons. I immediately fell in love with the sport. I have been doing it ever since.’

"They should know that all things in life are possible as long as you work hard."

You have won many prizes in your career, which one are you the proudest of? ‘The WBC world title is my proudest accomplishment. I am the only one in the Netherlands holding that title.’

What is the title you still want to get? ‘I still want to fight for the UFC title. That is one of my ultimate goals. I will get there soon. I have purposely taken a break from fighting because I have been doing it for 11 years. People are asking me

why I am not fighting right now and that I am too young to take a break. What they don’t understand is that fighting for 11 years nonstop will take a toll on your body. I will fight again and get the titles I want; I’m just resting my body for a while.’

Is there a fight that you consider your best one up till now? ‘There are two of them. One against a Dutch opponent called Cruz and the other against a Chinese opponent. The last one pinned me twice in the first round, but I came back and won the fight and the title.’

You are practicing a male dominated sport. What advice do you have to other girls that want to pursue a career in martial arts? ‘Never give up on your dreams. Look at what I have accomplished. Never let people tell you that you cannot reach your goals. I came home with my eyes black and blue and my mother asked me if I really wanted to continue with kickboxing. I told her that I am not going to give up. Look where I am at now.’

What are you currently up to? ‘I am doing many things. I just spoke at TEDx Curaçao, I do other seminars too. I will be traveling to China soon to train a girl that I have fought against. The only time she lost was against me, now I am training her. I really want to be an example and a role model for the youth, not just the ones in Curaçao, but all over the world. They should know that all things in life are possible as long as you work hard.’

Do you have any role models in the sport? ‘My role model is my mother. She is a very strong woman who raised 3 kids by herself. She always encouraged us to fight for our dreams to make them come true.’

Is there something that you do that nobody would expect Jemyma to be able to do? ‘I can cook really well. People might not expect me to be this good. I am a pasta lover.’

HOTSPOT GOWEEKLY 13 2016

Hotspot of the week Have you ever had the pleasure of witnessing beautiful fish swim in the sea while snorkeling or diving? Let’s take it to the next level. Instead of just admiring those beautiful creatures, let’s swim with one of them… and not just any one. Text: Shari Jourdain

Dolphin Academy The encounter olphins are one of the smartest animals of the sea. It is no wonder why they’re able to do amazing tricks at the Dolphin Academy. I loved to see how loving the trainers treated them. You can tell the dolphins feel it too as they perform cool tricks by just seeing the trainers’ signs. They might even give you a kiss on the cheek if you are nice to them too!

The swim It gets interesting when you actually get to swim with the dolphins and touch them. They are very calm and super smart! During my swim one of the dolphins even dug up a snorkeling fin that someone accidentally dropped, how awesome! Be in awe of these amazing dolphins, you wouldn’t want to miss this!
