2025-2026 Impact Report
Unlocking power & potential for every girl With a mission to inspire girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum that creatively incorporates running, Girls on the Run Greater Oregon envisions a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams.
Dear friends, If you're reading this letter, you likely supported Girls on the Run Greater Oregon in some capacity during our 2026 fiscal year. That means the impacts outlined on the following pages are yours to share and celebrate! Together, we served more than 1,000 girls on 80 teams across Oregon and SW Washington. We hosted 14 end-of-season 5Ks, giving teams a joyful space to gather. In April, we hosted our most successful Sip in Sneakers fundraising event to date, and throughout the year we benefited from the largest-ever crew of SoleMate Charity Runners. These two efforts raised almost $100,000 combined! There was so much to celebrate this year, but I want to pause on something bigger than any single achievement: the long-term impact of our program. As much fun as our practices, 5Ks, and fundraisers are, what matters most is how Girls on the Run shapes girls' lives for years, even decades, to come. Recently, the peer-reviewed journal Frontiers in Developmental Psychology published the Girls on the Run Alums Study, led by Dr. Weiss (University of Minnesota), Dr. Kipp (Texas State University), and Dr. Horn (Miami University). Researchers surveyed eighth graders who participated in Girls on the Run as fourth graders in 2019. The results reveal a lasting "Girls on the Run Effect": 85% still use skills learned in the program; 91% credit the program with helping them resolve peer conflicts; 89% say it helps them set and achieve goals; and 95% report a greater appreciation for diversity. What moves me most about their report, however, is this: in interviews, every single alum shared favorable memories of her coach, describing moments that left a lasting, positive mark. This research underlines what we already knew, that Girls on the Run coaches are the heart of our impact. Coaches ensure girls feel seen, included, and supported during a vital time in their development. There's so much more to share. I hope you'll flip through the pages and enjoy a deeper dive into our 2026 outcomes. Your support has helped Girls on the Run make a lasting impact! With gratitude,
Mavia Haight

“My kiddo learned that she doesn't have to do things perfectly and it’s not about winning, it’s about having fun while doing something good for your body. All things we've been working on since she was a baby. But profectionist children hear things better from coaches, friends, and peers [who] they respect than from their own parents. Thank you for driving those messages home for her in a way she could internalize!” – GOTRGO Caregiver

5K Celebrations Each Girls on the Run season ends with a celebratory 5K where girls run, walk, and skip beside a 5K Buddy – often a caregiver, older sibling, or family friend. This closing event gives program participants a tangible goal to work towards and a sense of accomplishment at the finish line! While our largest 5K events happens in the greater Portland area each spring, we held fourteen 5Ks during the 2025/2026 program year throughout Oregon, engaging over 2,000 youth participants and 5K Buddies.
Sip in Sneakers 2026 We held our largest fundraising event to date on April 16, 2026, and it was FUN! Donors, coaches, board members, parents, and friends gathered at Coopers Hall in Portland for a night of good food and wine, and inspiring community. We held a silent auction, blinky ring raffle, gift pull, and paddle raise. Guests at sponsored tables enjoyed a VIP wine tasting. Collectively we raised $47,000, making the evening a shining success!
