Dear Cattle Enthusiasts,

I would like to invite you to this year’s version of the Genetic Improvers Sale on Saturday September 7th, 2013 at 6 pm. Steve Lorenzen started this sale in 1983 and it’s with great pleasure we continue it today. When Steve and I found out the sale would not be continued this fall unless one of us stepped in to manage it, Steve was more than happy to let me volunteer. I believe Steve’s exact words were, “we’ll have a sale if you manage it”. How hard can it be, I know a few sale managers, I’m at least as smart as them. Ok so I have a little more respect for those guys now, and a little less Crown in the bottle.

It does give me great pleasure to share with you this year’s offering. With the Hereford tradition running deep through an excellent set of consigners that combine for nearly 200 years of experience raising Herefords, you can be sure to find your next champion or donor within this group. The open heifers might not be the fluffed and stuffed ones you’ll see other places but the quality is here and runs deep. Many will be halter broke and ready for you to prepare them to chase banners. The bred heifer and cow offerings have many genetic options for your herd and contain dams and sires that are changing the Hereford breed. Lorenzen Farms is also offering up a select set of Angus cows. Steve’s Angus cow herds are one of the best kept secrets in the cattle business. He’s been raising Angus for over 40 years and has one of the deepest sets of Angus cattle you’ll find anywhere. The group presented here is just the tip of the iceberg. We are also offering an excellent sampling of commercial cattle raised by Gary Schindler and Rick Schuchardt of Elgin, Nebraska. While we’re only offering three lots of three head each, these cattle will fit right into any progressive commercial herd or make recips for all those eggs you’re keeping in cold storage. We also have a few embryo packages to offer if you’re short. Finally, there will be select few steers in the offering. These are high quality, high performing banner chasers in their own right.

All the cattle will be available for viewing Friday September 6th at the Albin Farms Sale Facility in Newman, Illinois, but please feel free to contact any of the consignors to visit prior to then. Please join us on Saturday, September 7th for a presale meal and a chance to own some of the best cattle to sell this fall.

This February heifer calf may be the best one we’ve ever raised. She combines power and rib shape with a correct structure in an attractive and moderate package. Her dam won her class at the JNHE and Wanda has the pedigree to back it up, as she goes back to Vogue on the bottom side and Harvie Dan T-Bone on the top side. This is a big time heifer that could do some damage next summer.

This is perhaps the best flush of embryo heifers ever at Torrance Herefords! These two heifers come from one of the most prolific cow families in the Hereford breed. The Reba cow family has produced Denver National Champion RST ROF Reba 28H, LCC Two Timin 438, also National Champion, as well as two JNHE Reserve Grand Champions, including Reba 4G, 516’s dam. 516 herself is simply unbelievable; look at that perfect udder! She is one of our best producers. These two heifers are maternal sibs to a 2011 JNHE class winner, ADR RST 743 Kyra 28X ET, one of our feature donors, who has already produced some fantastic females of her own, including Faith 44Z, Reserve Division Champion at the 2013 JNHE. The sire of these females, Lock-N-Load, was a National champion at the 2011 NAILE. These heifers are consistent across the board-- big bodied, maternal females that have that extra length and dimension, are super sound and set down on a big foot. This group of females comes from a long line of champions that keep on producing. GROUP OF 3 COMMERCIAL FEMALES These nine head of Nebraska Sandhills heifers are an excellent sample of commercial cattle raised by Gary Schindler and Rick Schuchardt of Elgin, Nebraska located in northeast Nebraska. These baldy/brockle first-calf heifers were A.I. on April 21, 2013 using a purebred Angus bull named High Definition. He is a low birthweight, calving ease bull. You can refer to the this spring’s Genex horizon catalog, number 1291, tattoo number 560.

There are more of these quality baldy/brockle heifers available for sale. Additionally, we also have bred heifers that include Angus heifers bred by Albin Farms Hereford bulls, Red Angus-cross and Charolais-cross heifers bred using purebred Red Angus. All the heifers were ultra-sounded July 12, 2013 and are expected to calve within 45 days between January 28 and March, 2014. The information for the Angus and Hereford cows that produce these heifers is not tracked, but were sired from quality registered Nebraska Hereford and Angus bulls.
