On behalf of everyone at CK & Wager Cattle I would like to welcome you to our inaugural auction sale. We’ve had the privilege to sell bulls and females by private treaty for the last 12 years to some of the best cattlemen and cattlewomen in the purebred and commercial industry. Although we have enjoyed the personal interaction of selling private treaty, our numbers have dictated us to bring forth an auction. The people that have done business with us the last number of years are not only customers, but have become friends and we thank you for your support.

The profitability of our customers remains the focus of our operations. We are a family operation. We could have never imagined where Melody would have taken us when Lanny purchased her from John Christensen in 2004. We have incorporated her genetics heavily through the years and they have never let us down. Melody is 16 years old and spends her summers getting flushed and her winters getting fed an ear of corn by Jayne.

I think she gets a couple extra ears from time to time, but she has earned it! Melody still looks youthful, has never had a foot problem, and still makes embryos. Melody’s sons and daughter will be highlights in this sale.

As I am writing this we just got through 86 hours of not seeing temperatures above 0.

The cows have been out on the river hills, grazing the draws and corn stalks on the flat. It amazes me what cattle can endure. We ask them to rough it at -36 through the winter and when we are breeding it seems like the temperatures nearly reach 100, but I guess they sort themselves out. The opens and the poorer calf raisers go to town, so I suppose you could say that it is survival of the fittest!

We will have cattle available for your inspection anytime. We will also have ultrasound data, yearly weights, and scrotal measurements available on sale day. The bulls will be moved to Lanny’s after the sale and put in a 40-acre trap to ensure structural soundness. We will have them semen tested before we start delivering them in mid-April. We fully guarantee the bulls for one breeding season. Insurance options will also be available sale day and we encourage you to look into this. Thanks for your interest in this offering. CATTLEMEN,

It is with great enthusiasm that we welcome you to the first annual CK/ Wager Cattle Company bull and female sale. This day has been in the works for some time and we believe that you will like what you see in Highmore on the tenth of February.

The offering will include Simmental, SimAngus, Angus, and Hereford bulls with a very nice set of Simmental and SimAngus bred females both registered and commercial.

This program has been built with a very critical eye. The cow herd has been sorted for foot integrity, fertility, udder quality, and pounds produced. They have been very critical to include and mass produce from the most proven cow lines within the program and respective breed. Sire selection has been built with strong, successful cow families in mind also, making the end product more proven with less unpredictability. The male calves have been sorted on quality, eye appeal, foot quality, structure, testicle size, and performance. Performance is a number within this operation, it’s represented by the number on the scale. This outfit knows that their profit is the same as yours, they get paid on weight and so do you. One could sum the philosophy up by stating it’s Expected Profit Dividend at CK/ Wager.

There has been a lot of opportunity in the market place over the last few months, both buying and selling. One thing is certain, the demand for quality is still prevalent more today than ever and the energy to improve one’s program is too. Tie into a good set of bulls and females on the afternoon of February 10 at the CK Cattle Sale Facility just north of Highmore, SD. Cattle will be available to view any time before and on sale day. It will be a video auction in a climate controlled facility. Call any of the owners or sale management with any question you may have.

Bulls can stay to the first of April when they will have a breeding soundness exam, along with lepto, pinkeye, and hoof rot vaccine.

Bred females will need to leave as soon as possible after the sale due to close proximity of calving. Any female left and calved at CK/ Wager facilities will not be guaranteed a live calf.

Driver need no introduction to the seedstock circle. He has experienced broad use throughout the industry. He is a full brother to the great and equally proven Dream Catcher as well as the great Lullaby donor that headlines our donor pen along with several other full sisters. Of course, he is a direct son of our foundation matriarch Melody that directly influences our entire program. The Driver cattle are cattle with more extension with ultimate top shape, ideal pin width, with a square, long quarter. These cattle are consistently big footed with the hard to come by extra heel.

The daughters are wet, productive, and hence bring big calves to the weaning pen. The pedigree is strong as his brothers do many of these things equally as well. We like the Drivers as they are primarily black hided cattle that thrive in our harsh ranching environment. As you know, the Dakotas can be the coldest in the winter and the hottest place in the country in the summer with limited precipitation and forage at times. They are tried and true, time tested, and rancher approved.

The influence of Pilgrim in our program is significant as well. We sought the Pilgrim bull out for his depth of body and his build for longevity. We love his females in production, that’s why we added the Outlaw stud to our bull battery a couple years ago. He is a son of Pilgrim, from a Driver dam, and his cattle have been readily accepted.
