The First Family of Gospel Radio: Faith, Family, Holy Hip Hop, and Love Gospel music is changing, and young people have the sound! They use their voices to lift up the name of Jesus and proclaim His name over Hip Hop, Rhythm and Blues, and Neo Soul Beats. The time has come to open up the doors of gospel music to this new generation. With two urban-gospel, radio shows pushing Holy Hip Hop and Urban Gospel, “Those Baxters” have a family radio show that gives a voice to the new millenniums and a vehicle to the cause. Often referred to as “The First Family of Gospel Radio,” husband and wife team, Juan “Brutha Craze” Baxter and Kala “Ms. Kala” Moses Baxter, along with their two little girls, Myla and Jayla, make up “Those Baxters.” It is a team committed to faith, family, holy Hip Hop, and love. You may recognize this blessed family from their gospel show on Rejoice Musical Soulfood Radio Network in 35 Markets and Counting, radio show on Stellar Nominated Look Up Radio, or their television show on the way with Soulfood Media. If you don’t know them yet, you soon will, because God is moving in their lives.

THOSE BAXTERS

Things weren’t always easy for this couple. Indeed, walking by faith takes courage and obedience to God. Being obedient is a constant, daily struggle with your own will. But Those Baxters are willing to take the challenge and couldn’t imagine another way. This creative couple met thirteen years ago while acting in a play.

T H O S E B AX T ERS They dated for four months and, by faith, they got married six months later. In fact, most of the decisions that Those Baxters have made were based on faith. Later, this would prove to be the way that God would lead their lives. A good example of this is when the couple left their home that they had been renting for eight years, just as God told them it was time to go. God was calling them to take a bold leap of faith. This meant that they would pack, throw out things, and move without knowing where they were going. They ended up in one room in their aunt’s basement. After being there for two months, God told Juan that He would move them into a house by March 1st, and of course, God fulfilled what He said. They were searching for a place to rent without any success, but on March 1st they signed their lease. For Those Baxters, everything began to change in their lives once they began to walk on God’s path and not on their own. In February of 2015, God the radio stations where they small markets, and told them Without knowing what the did as God said. Later, it was would work together to radio show and pitch the idea later, the Lord blessed them show on Look Up Radio. were syndicated with Rejoice had a plan for them, and once ready to move.

called the couple to leave worked, in the major and He had another plan. plan was, Those Baxters revealed that the couple create an urban gospel to radio stations. A week with their gospel radio Seven weeks later, they Musical Soulfood. God they listened, He was

Today, almost a year later, they have a family radio show together that supports and encourages gospel artists to create Christian rap (Holy Hip Hop), urban gospel, and gospel soul music. Incredible artists like Canton Jones, Giel, Bizzle, Uncle Reece, Lauren Ray, Daarinah, LeCrea, Jermaine Dolly, Jordan Armstrong, Christian Gray, the Walls Group, Kierra Sheard, Darious Scott, Luke Witherspoon, and many more, who weren’t getting much air play in major radio, Those Baxters are giving them a voice. Joining them in this effort are industry professionals like Willie Mo Jr., D. White, Dj Jesus Beats, Dj Wadeo, Bonnerfide, Kirk Franklin’s Praise, and Gene Keys, just to name a few trailblazers in urban gospel radio. When asked why they do what they do, Juan Baxter says, “I want to show the world that you can be young, married with a family, and still be saved! The only way to do this is to be the example for other couples. Our children have to see that it was possible to have a marriage that works. We are doing more than radio. We are encouraging families in life. Because marriage is so diluted right now, people need something to believe in.”

T H O S E B AX T ERS Ms. Kala adds, “Those Baxters happened by faith and are walking in obedience to God. God is going to call on you to do some things that may not make sense to you and may challenge you. But if you listen and allow God to order your steps, He promises you an abundant life. Just trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your path.” Catch Those Baxters Radio Show on Rejoice Musical Soulfood on Saturdays from 4-6pm (EST) and on one of 35 Rejoice Affiliate stations. You can also tune in on Mondays from 7-9pm (EST) on Look Up Radio. Those Baxters will introduce you to new gospel artists, international music that inspires people all over the world, share parenting tips and testimonies from seasoned gospel artists, and play a kid pick by their little girls. You will hear a live Dj mix by Dj Ant G. Follow Those Baxters at “Those Baxters” in all social media. www.ThoseBaxters.com

J ENNY ’ S J O URNA L Africa: The Manifested Word — Evangelist Jennifer Marlowe Connection was made, flight was taken, and a hired vehicle was waiting. It was for a meeting with the director of the school district. After the introduction to the principal, I met the teachers and visited the classrooms, which are deplorable. Some classes were being held outside in the open, which brought tears to my eyes. Then there was and assembling call into the courtyard to meet the young ladies. Ladies In Waiting Foundation came to be a blessing for propelling princesses into queens. We introduced ourselves to the young ladies and told them what we are about and how we are going to help. The smile, from my black African princesses, which lit up their faces with glowing white teeth would bright up anyone’s day. And to add to that, they opened their mouths and began to sing. Wow! It overshadowed the torn and tattered uniforms as they stood up with pride to give praises to God. This was priceless! This was worth all the asking and pleading to our donors and sponsors. Yes, right there and then gratitude filled my heart. After giving out the much needed pads (there is a shortage of sanitary napkins for young school girls) and the care package of toiletries to young ladies between the ages 14–18 (LIWF believes all young girls want to smell and look pretty), I turned around and saw a large group of kids between the ages 4–6 who were looking at me with their eyes, each saying, “What about me?” It was then that I remembered that I had two packages of socks in the bag I was holding. As I pulled the socks from the bag, the young slippers and shoeless children surrounded me like a flies to a moth..

J ENNY ’ S J O URNA L I tried to separate the pack of six socks to give each child a pair, but I guess I was taking too long, because they started pushing at each other to get to me. In turn, I found myself falling backwards, but one of the male teachers saved me. It then dawned on me what these kids were going to do with just socks. Note to self: Shoes needed. Yes, I’m in the village of Nwawasue Sunyani in Africa at the Municipal Assembly Basic School. And I LOVE IT! It is a great feeling to walk towards your purpose and fulfill one of the areas of this great calling, which is to be a blessing to the less fortunate. And it has changed my whole outlook on life for being humble and servant

There is a fulfillment of joy when I could reach out and touch the hurting, the hopeless, and the needy. We are on a mission field to bring life-changing messages through the help of Jesus Christ and to make an eternal difference. I am loving the experience and thanking God for the area he has called me to aggrandize His kingdom and to bath in His pool of happiness. “Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.” (Psalms 16:11)

H A V E Y O U REC EIV ED Y O UR G IF T? Deacon Richard Serrano & Evangelist Nephetina Serrano For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. ~ Isaiah 9:6 KJV At Christmas we give gifts to one another and sometimes we ask our spouse, what would you like this year?” Sometimes we take a guess and get them what we’d like for them to have with the hopes that it will be something they desired. We wrap our gifts in beautiful decorative paper and place a ribbon or bow on it, taking ever measure we can to make sure that from the outside in it’s something that will make them happy, smile and give them joy. Most of us love to receive gifts. A gift shouldn’t be given with conditions attached. You shouldn’t have to repay someone for a gift, a gift is voluntary. Gifts come in different sizes and packages, gifts can be a surprise and a gift is free, something given beyond what is expected. When man was made, time passed and God decided man was lonely he then created woman. And the Lord said, “It is not good that man should be alone, I will make him a helper comparable to him. Genesis 2:18 Husbands have you received your gift? Do you know that your wife is God’s gift to you? Do you realize God did not want man to be alone? Do you take pride in your gift? Husbands you should love your wife and celebrate her. Know that she is a precious gift given by God JUST FOR YOU! There is a saying, behind every great man is a great woman and there is much truth in that. Likewise, husbands, live with your wives in an understanding way, showing honor to the woman as the weaker vessel, since they are heirs with you of the grace of life, so that your prayers may not be hindered. 1 Peter 3:7 Wives knowing that YOU ARE A GIFT to your husbands, what type of gift are you? Do you shine for him, do you honor him with your presence, do you build him up with your words? When he comes home are you wrapped nicely and presentable, does he get excited to come home and receive his gift? Our husbands are the priest in our home and should be treated as such. He should be your King in your dwelling place. Therefore, wives, Let the king be enthralled by your beauty; honor him, for he is your lord. Psalm 45:11 … each man must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband. Ephesians 5:33

Jesus was a gift given to man that we did not deserve, but God loved us so much that he gave Him to us anyway. Jesus was a gift that was given when we weren’t expecting it. He came to us wrapped humbly, born in a manager not a castle or palace, wrapped in swaddling clothes... Luke 2:7 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16 KJV Love is not a feeling, it is a commandment by God. Without God we cannot have true love. How you can love God, whom you have not seen but can’t love our brother whom you see? Our love should not just be words or talk rather true love shows itself in action. I John 3:18 The gift of God is free to us ALL. Christmas is about giving. Jesus is a gift. For the bible says 23 for the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 6:23. Christ coming into the world to purchase eternal life for us was the first gift of Christmas. Being freed from sin is A GIFT… HAVE YOU RECEIVED YOUR GIFT?

A Healthier You in 2016 Keeping a Sound Mind in 2016 By Vandetta A. Cunningham

! He sent His word and healed them, And delivered them from their destructions. ~ Psalm 107:20 Beloved, I wish above all things that you may prosper and be in health, even as your soul prospers. ~ 3 John 1:2 As we come to the close of another year, we must continue to be diligent in preventing ourselves from falling prey to the spirit of infirmity in the New Year. The Scripture above lets us know the heart of God concerning us. It is God's desire to see us walk in complete harmony as a whole unique individual; mind, body and soul. As the Scripture tells us, the Father wants us to possess not only a prosperous (thriving/flourishing) soul, but additionally a healthy body and sound mind to achieve a truly victorious life. As we know, the last two months of the year are considered the holiday season. During this time, not only should we fight to keep our body healthy, we must also fight to keep a sound mind. The Holy Bible teaches us in James 1:8, "A double minded man is unstable in all his ways." Not some of his ways, but all of them and God wants us to walk in stability. Even today in the legal arena of our lives, a person must have the ability to clearly understand, reason and think for oneself to be believed of sound mind. You must possess a sound (healthy/whole) mind prior to signing a will or other official documents. It's legally required to be mentally fit before entering into any contracts or agreements. However due to specific conditions such as brain damage, tumors, illness or even side-effects of medications; a person can become incapacitated and not of sound mind. "Winter Blues" is a familiar term that's tossed around as the season changes from fall to winter when many seem to be extremely moody or melancholy. It is believed that as the days get shorter with the diminishing of daylight and the weather gets colder as the winter approaches there are those who go through a short period of feeling blue or depressed." All of us at some time in our lives have had "winter blues" to a certain degree. When we wrestle with the desire to stay inside where it's warm vs. going out braving the cold winter chill may develop a little unhappiness, but there are those who seem to have the blues on a more intense or greater level.

Seasonal affective disorder (SAD) is a type of depression that's related to changes in seasons. A person is diagnosed with SAD if they endured three consecutive winters of symptoms that are also ensued by complete remission of symptoms in the spring and summer months. SAD begins in September and throughout the winter months peaking in December, January and February. It usually subsides in April or early summer. The following diagram of information clearly dispels those myths: Prevalence ♦ Three out of four SAD sufferers are women, but men may have more severe symptoms. ♦ The main age of onset of winter SAD is between 18 - 30 years of age and winter SAD is less likely to occur in older adults. ♦ SAD occurs in both the north and south, but is extremely rare in those living within 30 degrees latitude of the equator. ♦ People with SAD may be more likely to have blood relatives with SAD or another form of depression. Symptoms ♦ Depression: misery, guilt, loss of self-esteem, hopelessness, despair, and apathy ♦ Anxiety: tension and inability to tolerate stress ♦Mood changes: extremes of mood and, in some, periods of mania in spring and summer ♦ Sleep problems: desire to oversleep and difficulty staying awake or, sometimes, disturbed sleep and early morning waking ♦ Lethargy: feeling of fatigue and inability to carry out normal routine ♦ Overeating: craving for starchy and sweet foods resulting in weight gain "Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on Thee: because he trusteth in Thee." Isaiah 26:3 ESV If you or anyone you know are presently experiencing any of the above symptoms of Seasonal Affective Disorder speak with your doctor immediately or if you are uncertain where to turn for help don't panic it's only a phone call away at the numbers listed below: NDMDA Depression Hotline - Support Group - 1-800-826-3632 Suicide Prevention Services Depression Hotline - 630-482-9696 Suicide & Depression Hotline - Covenant House - 1-800-999-9999 US Suicide Hotline - 1-800-784-2433 Vandetta A. Fashioned By Faith By Yolanda K. Churchwell I can sum up my 2015 in two words: change and blessings—a personal oxymoron. Like most people, I love blessings but I hated changes. I still don’t like change but I love what it can bring about. In the past year, I have dealt with separation and loss, felt rejection and failure, and faced some growing pains. I have had some setbacks, but still God has blessed me beyond what words can explain. I have joy, peace, and love in my life like never before. For me, 2015 has been a year of faith. Faith is applied knowledge, in other words, it is power in action. Faith requires that I change the way I do some things in order to get better results in my life, without proof of what the changes will bring about. For me, faith translates into my surrender of what I thought and planned, and let God guide me by His strength and power, and bless me according to His plans for me. As an exceptional student and over achiever of most things, memorization and attention to detail rank high in my skill set. I have always set new goals, with action items and deadlines, and had backup plans for my backup plans. I was everyone’s go-to person. My brother-in-law, who gives everyone a nickname, calls me “the coordinator.” For most of 2015, I felt the opposite of who I have always thought I was and what some believed of me. I was tired, depressed, angry, withdrawn, lost, and even more so I second-guessed myself and did not trust in my own decision-making. In spite of all that, I knew that when I don’t know, that is the time to have “a little talk with Jesus” and to hold to God’s unchanging hand, because He will carry me through. This year of 2015 has been the turning point where my knowledge was activated and my faith has been elevated. All those memory verses and hymns stopped being just things I knew or said and became tools for living. One of my favorite Scriptures says, “Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not” (Jeremiah 33:3), and I am living that right now. In my desperation, I just began calling on the Lord’s name and asking Him to see me through all that I was going through. I can say that I do experience that “peace that surpasses all understanding.” I lean and depend on Jesus for all of my needs and desires.

I stopped trying to figure it out when God has already worked it out. I don’t act right away. Rather, I pray, be still, and wait on God because I know that “they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength” (Isaiah 40:31). That isn’t to say I don’t have bad days. As a child of God, those days come along with the territory. I just had one yesterday. But on those days, I acknowledge what I feel, claim what I want, and keep it moving. Yesterday I said, “I have bad days, today is one of those harder days, but I am going to be okay.” In the last few months, I take this as a signal from my spirit that it is hungry and needs to be fed. In these moments, I listen to a sermon on CD, watch one on DVD, or review some notes from one at church. I have found it to be an instant blessing; I feel better and, before I know it, I am in the midst of a praise party! In 2015, things have happened in my life that have resulted in a change over my life and led to blessings on my life. At the top of my list of blessings is increased faith. It has changed who I am in so many ways. It has reshaped my image, and it has made me better. One of the greatest lessons I learned this year is that I will never fulfill my purpose in my comfort zone. Comfort obscures calling. So as I move into my purpose-filled 2016, I welcome change. As I seek God first and hear His word, my personal relationship with Him grows stronger. I trust Him more and He molds me into the woman that He would have me to be. There I sat in the latter part of September when I

Afterwards, I started looking around and what did I

see? Not one; not two; but THREE –Beautiful,

You see, I had been at odds with that furry creature ripe, juicy tomatoes!!! Yes! My ENEMY had just all summer –he and all his friends! This had not

GOING INTO 2016 WITH PURPOSE

What is PURPOSE?

I believe that is a question everyone desires or better yet should want to know. I was watching the Oprah Winfrey Show one day and her guest was Bishop TD Jakes and he said something very profound. “ Many times we are pushed into functioning in an area that is not our highest and best use, because someone needed us to be WHAT we were NOT created to be” It is time for us to stop basing our lives on people’s perception or what they believe that we should be… Now is the time that you and I should get our focus back, we need spiritual insight so that we can function in the capacity that God has desired us to be in. If you have a dream or a passion don’t let it die, get ready to walk that thing out in 2016, begin to step out in faith and allow that thing to manifest in the natural. You have to understand one thing, Defeat is Not an option in your new Season Somebody needs to understand that it's NOT the devil that is holding you back.. But rather it’s YOU that is STOPPING YOU! The devil has no power over a blood washed, fire baptized MAN/WOMAN of GOD. The word of God states in (Jeremiah 29:11) that “He knows the plans that He has for you” and just because 2015 was rough does not mean that the plans of God are dead. When the Holy Spirit has come upon you, you will receive power and will tell people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria and to the ends of the earth” (Acts 1:8). When we commit our lives to Christ, we commit to an enduring, lifelong mission. We commit to a life of speaking, acting, thinking and relating out the transforming and joyful experience of being in a relationship with the Lord. That’s it. #2016

“FOR I KNOW THE PLANS I HAVE FOR YOU,” SAYS THE LORD. “THEY ARE PLANS FOR GOOD AND NOT FOR DISASTER, TO GIVE YOU A FUTURE AND A HOPE” (JER. 29:11).
