WELCOME TO THE ATL AIRPORT DISTRICT

The ATL Starts Here

There’s a certain Southside feeling that you get the moment you land here in the District. It’s a flavor, a color, a vibe. In the cities surrounding Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, you’ll find it in the minority-owned restaurants, authentic art scene, historic architecture and lively community events. It’s painted on walls and chalked on sidewalks throughout College Park, Hapeville and Union City. No matter where you’re from or how you get here, you’re invited to soak it in.

All the fun, none of the hassle

Despite its relaxed attitude, the ATL Airport District is raising the bar on Atlanta’s celebrated efficiency and convenience. First, the District is even closer to Atlanta’s airport than Atlanta is, with thousands of hotel rooms offering complimentary airport shuttle service, plus a free 24/7 ATL SkyTrain from the airport to Gateway Center Campus and rental cars. Everything you need is accessible either on foot, by MARTA, or with an easy drive: restaurants, shopping, art, music, theater, attractions, activities and sports. Being located at the convergence of several interstate highways has its advantages, too, like access to Atlanta neighborhoods including Downtown, Midtown, Decatur, Buckhead, Perimeter and beyond.

Lots to do in the District

Walk mural-lined main streets, take in history old and new, and catch a show or sporting event all within the District. Don’t miss the one-of-akind attractions, beautiful parks, playgrounds, skateparks, historic golf course, and invigorating yoga and wellness studios. And thanks to temperate year-round weather, the District is always alive with festivals and events. Check the calendar at ATLdistrict.com for Spin the District cycling races/block parties, classic car shows, family festivals, music events, holiday celebrations and more—almost all free to attend.

CITIES OF THE DISTRICT: COLLEGE

PARK

A deep-rooted, genuine and inclusive community, College Park is Atlanta’s gateway to the world. The city offers the best of Southern hospitality with more than 5,000 hotel rooms and an ample supply of eateries, from homegrown to high class, including cuisine from the American South, Jamaica, Mexico, Japan, Thailand, West Africa, New Orleans and beyond.

The home of Southside sports

Three celebrated teams call College Park’s Gateway Center Arena home: the Atlanta Dream (WNBA basketball), the College Park Skyhawks (NBA G-League) and LOVB Atlanta (women’s professional volleyball). Pro Tip: Fans traveling by MARTA can get off at Airport Station and take the free ATL SkyTrain across to the Arena, day or night.

• WALKABLE DOWNTOWN offering food and public art

Keeping it Cozy in the District

Hot Drinks, Warm Patios & Good Times

Sweater season has returned to the District, and as every Southerner knows, this magical time is both beautiful and brief. Here’s our guide to making the most of every brisk day with some of the Southside’s tastiest beverages, coziest patios, and sweetest seasonal activities.

Brewing Up Flavor

Your taste adventure awaits! Whether you’re looking for a classic drip coffee or an elaborate concoction with house made syrup and festive flavors, the District’s local haunts craft seasonal sips that you won’t want to miss. Here are some of the hottest spots to enjoy a taste of the season:

Coffee Man

This quirky, locally-owned Hapeville coffee shop is proud of its inventive brews, and this fall and winter, they’re offering cold brews and lattes in sweet potato and pumpkin flavors—plus other experimental concoctions that will keep you coming back for more. drinkcoffeeman.com

C’est La Vie Café

Hidden gem C’est La Vie Café, once everyone’s favorite mobile beverage experience, now

offers handcrafted cocktails and specialty coffee in its own brick-and-mortar spot off Main Street in College Park. You deserve a little treat, so stop in on your next visit to the District! thecestlaviecafe.com

JPresso

Kick off your morning (or afternoon) with a delectable beverage from JPresso, a cozy spot in Hapeville, whose proprietor aims to feed you just like your mama would. As days grow shorter, find some extra sunshine on their menu with apple, pumpkin, peppermint and eggnog beverages. instagram.com/jpressocafe

Drip-Thru

College Park’s first-rate drive-through coffee shop brews high-quality organic coffee supplied by Café Campesino. Of course, autumn in Georgia can sometimes be more of a mindset than a season, so on days when the temperature forces you back into short sleeves, you can cool down with the iced caramel macchiato or peppermint mocha. dripthrucoffee.com

Warm fuzzies all day

When you have a free afternoon to fill with

Cornhole at Paper Plane

wholesome and joyful seasonal moments, the District is ready to put its very cutest foot forward.

Hapeville Depot Museum

There’s something cozy about immersing yourself in the old-fashioned world of local history, and where better than the District’s own Hapeville Depot Museum? After a lazy stroll through simpler times, step out into the sunshine at nearby Jess Lucas Y Teen Park—a lovely place to visit any time of year.

Tinsel Trail

Between Thanksgiving and mid-December, amble along College Park’s charming Tinsel Trail, a glittering tour of beautifully decorated holiday trees created by Southside locals. The Tinsel Trail’s annual launch party, Light Up the City, features live performances, holiday refreshments and visits with Santa and Mrs. Claus. Talk about cozy!

Fall & Winter Events

Check the ATLdistrict.com events calendar for a host of seasonal celebrations and events throughout the District.

Autumn al fresco—and more

When the heat of a Georgia summer gives way to milder days, patio dining takes its rightful throne. These glorious outdoor spots are not to be missed.

Folk Art

This breakfast-lunch-and-brunch spot in Hapeville is open daily until 9 p.m. to satisfy all breakfast-for-dinner comfort food cravings. Warm up on the heated patio with their contemporary Southern menu, including adventurous desserts like “The Randy,” apple bacon deep fried in sweet potato waffle batter. If you’re still not warm enough, top it all off with a hot drink or a cold Pumpkin White Russian from the bar. folkartrestaurant.com

Paper Plane

On a cool Georgia day, take the chill off with some Thai chilis. Hapeville’s Paper Plane has a cozy covered patio (with heaters) and large open-air greenspace that provides a beautiful setting to

enjoy some of the ATL’s favorite Thai cuisine—or traditional Southern Sunday brunch with a Thai fusion twist. paperplanerestaurant.com

Brass Tap

The outdoor patio at Hapeville’s Brass Tap offers all the game day thrills without the chills! With more than 150 craft beers, a big-screen TV, heaters and more, this is the end zone for your next football watch party. Groups can enjoy crowd-pleasing shareables like loaded tots, boom-boom shrimp, and steak nachos. brasstapbeerbar.com

Historic Green Manor

Though not known for outdoor dining, Union City’s Historic Green Manor Restaurant has a way of warming us up from the inside out. In the olden days, folks kept warm through Victorian winters with good food and ghost stories around the fire, and you can follow in their footsteps at this relaxed Southern buffet housed in a historic antebellum estate. We can vouch for the food; the reports of ghosts, however, are up to you to investigate. greenmanor.biz

Chick-fil-A Dwarf House

Step back in time and experience the original 1946 Dwarf House menu before it became the famous Chick-fil-A. This recently renovated Hapeville location offers the crowd favorite 21stcentury fast food—and to experience the original authentic menu and table service, grab a booth on the old-timey side of the restaurant and order

Enjoying brews at Beer Girl

up classics like chicken and waffles, fried okra and sweet potato souffle. chickfila.com

A toasty toast to good friends

When you don’t want the night to end, grab a nightcap! Sprinkle in some charm, and explore Hapeville’s open-container-friendly Arts Alley, a quaint courtyard connecting some of the District’s open-late faves.

Corner Tavern

As evenings begin to get nippy, warm up with

some laughter on the heated covered patio at Corner Tavern. Chow down on elevated pub fare in total al fresco comfort. The biergarten comes alive at night with a fire pit, corn hole and bocce ball. thecornertavern.com

Beer Girl

When you’re craving the flavors of the season, pop into Beer Girl in Hapeville for seasonal sips like hot mulled cider. Beer fans, look no further: Oktoberfest’s, chocolate lagers and more are on tap to taste and enjoy all season long. beergirlatl.com

Café Belli

Keep the party going at Café Belli in Hapeville, an after-hours bar just steps away from multiple downtown restaurants. Home to craft coffee and cocktails, Café Belli serves up tasty beverages and über-festive décor for a picture-perfect end to a glorious day in the District. cafebelli.godaddysites.com

Reach For the Sky, Delta Would Dare

Delta Air Lines celebrates its 100th anniversary this year. A milestone few companies, let alone airlines, ever reach. From its humble beginnings as a crop-dusting operation in the American South to becoming one of the world’s leading global carriers, the journey is a story of the ages.

Delta traces its roots back to March 2, 1925, when it was founded as Huff Daland Dusters in Macon, Georgia. It was the world’s first aerial crop-dusting company, created to combat the boll weevil infestation threatening Southern cotton fields. The company later moved its headquarters to Monroe, Louisiana, before

being renamed “Delta Air Service” in 1928 (in honor of the Mississippi Delta region it originally served). On June 17, 1929, they launched their first passenger flights between Dallas, Texas and Jackson, Mississippi, using a single Travel Air Model S-6000B aircraft. The fare was just $47.25 one-way (around $850 today). The flight included multiple stops and lasted over five hours. In the present time, Delta serves more than 300 destinations in over 50 countries and operates major hubs in Atlanta, Detroit, Minneapolis, Salt Lake City, and New York City. The airline has pledged to be the first carbon-neutral airline globally, investing over $1 billion toward sustainability over the next decade.

The airline moved its headquarters to Atlanta in 1941, and it remains its corporate home today. By 1959 Delta became the first airline to fly the Douglas DC-8 jet, ushering in the Jet Age. Fast Forwarding almost 30 years later (in 1987), the company acquired Western Airlines, expanding its reach across the western U.S. and into Mexico. By 1991 Delta absorbed most of Pan Am’s transatlantic routes, cementing its international footprint. Then the flight conglomerate merged

with Northwest Airlines in 2008, forming the world’s largest airline at the time and giving it access to Asian markets.

As of the early 2020’s, the airline led the flight industry in blocking middle seats and implementing cleanliness protocols, helping to rebuild consumer trust in air travel. Consistently ranked among the top U.S. airlines in revenue, customer satisfaction, and reliability, it operates over 900 aircraft, making it one of the largest fleets in the world. Delta is known for its profit-sharing program, regularly awarding billions to employees when the airline is profitable. With such a legendary flight path, it is only logical for there to be a Delta Flight Museum. The museum is located at their headquarters on the Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport property. Founded in 1995 by its retirees who restored Ship 41 (a 1941 DC-3), it is a unique aviation museum housed in two restored 1940s hangars. It features historic aircraft like Delta’s DC-3 Ship 41, the Boeing 767 The Spirit of Delta, and a rare walk-through Boeing 747-400. Visitors can explore the airline’s journey from a pioneering modest crop-dusting company to a global airline empire, enjoy interactive exhibits, view vintage uniforms, and even try a real Boeing 737 flight simulator. Recently renovated for Delta’s centennial, the museum operates as a nonprofit and continues to expand its collections, emphasizing the airline’s people-first culture and legacy through updated exhibits and immersive storytelling.

As part of its people-first culture, Delta launched its Frequent Flyer program in 1981 (changing the name to SkyMiles in 1995). It was part of a wave of airline loyalty programs introduced around the time American Airlines launched AAdvantage. Individuals can earn miles by flying Delta or its partner airlines (Air France, KLM, Korean Air & others), using selected American Express Credit Card, or booking with travel partners such as certain hotels & car rentals. SkyMiles are redeemable for free flights, cabin upgrades, gift cards, vacation packages, and more. Elite tiers include

Silver, Gold, Platinum & Diamond Medallion.

In addition to the Sky Miles program, there is The Delta Sky Club. The airline initiated the program to give members exclusive airport lounge access, o ering a calm and luxurious space for eligible travelers to relax before or between flights. Amenities include comfortable seating & quiet areas, complimentary snacks, meals, premium beverages, high-speed Wi-Fi and charging stations, and more. Memberships are available for purchase at individual or executive levels or can often be bundled with Delta SkyMiles Reserve or Amex Platinum credit cards. Recent rollouts you can look forward to from Delta include premium lounges distinct from Sky Club with more luxurious amenities (first opening at JFK, LAX, BOS and SEA), such as upgraded food & drink partnerships with celebrity chefs and local vendors.

As Delta turns 100 in 2025, the airline plans a yearlong celebration, including aircraft with commemorative livery, community events in key cities, and recognition of long-time employees and loyal customers. CEO Ed Bastian has called the milestone “not just a celebration of our past, but a commitment to leading the future of aviation.” Few companies have weathered as much change, turbulence, and transformation as Delta. From barnstorming beginnings to a global aviation giant, Delta’s 100-year story is a testament to adaptation, service, and a constant drive to elevate the travel experience. As Delta looks ahead to its second century, it does so with wings firmly spread and eyes fixed on the horizon.
