REDUCING OUR CHEMICAL IMPACTS WHILE CAPTURING VALUE BLUESIGN® SYSTEM

he use of solution-dyed and recycled textiles significantly contributes to save water and energy and reduce waste. SOLUTION DYED MATERIALS Solution dyed textiles are made from yarns that are dyed in the polymer form before the yarn is extruded and woven. Solution dyeing is an innovative yarn-dyeing technology that – compared to conventional dyeing of a two-layer GORE-TEX laminate – saves up to 60% in water usage and reduces carbon emissions by up to 58%, when made from polyester.

RECYCLED MATERIALS To make 1.000 meters of the new backer textile, about 4.000 recycled plastic bottles are used that no longer end up in landfills, in incineration or - in the worst case - in any of the world´s oceans.

n 2010 all Gore Fabrics manufacturing sites have been certified to comply with bluesign® system, a highly demanding and comprehensive environmental and safety scheme for the textile industry. Since then, we have been working with our partners to promote and implement bluesign® system throughout the entire supply chain with the aim to only use safe, traceable and trustworthy chemicals. The goal of obtaining bluesign® approved status for 85% of Gore’s consumer garment laminate volume was met in March 2019. OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100

o give our consumers confidence in the safety of GORE-TEX and GORE-TEX INFINIUM™ products, Gore Fabrics has been working with the OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 since 1996. It requires all of our materials to be approved. We are confident that in 2020 100% of Gore’s laminate volume (both consumer garments & footwear) will be STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® certified. GOAL TO ELIMINATE PFCs OF ENVIRONMENTAL CONCERN

FCs (per- and poly-fluorinated chemicals) of Environmental Concern are highly fluorinated, small enough to be bioavailable, and persistent. These molecules have the potential to become widespread in water resources, and once released into the environment, they will persist for multiple generations. Gore Fabrics will eliminate PFCs of Environmental Concern from the life cycle of its consumer fabrics products by working with its suppliers to develop new materials (fluorine or non-fluorine based) for water repellents and membrane barriers.

HOW WE TEST STAGE 1 > MATERIAL & SYSTEM While innovating and improving our range, we constantly test materials in the laboratory. This systematic process ensures we’re starting from the best possible place.

STAGE 2 > HUMAN PERFORMANCE Lab tests are great. But only people can judge how products feel, work and wear in different environments and activities. That’s why human testing is crucial.

THE ENVIRONMENTAL CHAMBER simulates broad range of environmental conditions experienced by end users in GORE-TEX apparel. The unique capability to accurately simulate natural solar radiation (emission spectra and intensity) while maintaining all of the other aspects of environment (temperature, relative humidity, wind speed) enables to understand how materials, garments, and human subjects perform across range of relevant environments that could not previously been simulated.

THE RAIN TOWER simulates range of realistic rain fall rates - from a light drizzle through violent rain - and creates winddriven rain while matching natural rain dropsize distribution and velocity, to measure comfort in the rain. The first rain tower was installed in 1987 as part of Gore’s style approval process. Current rain tower represents state-of-the-art capabilities for evaluating durably comfortable protection.

STAGE 3 > IN THE FIELD Nothing perfectly replicates the real world. Whether designed for a mountain peak or a windy city, our athletes and experts put every product through its paces before it’s approved.

COMFORT SCIENCE

omfort is an abstract concept, but it depends on something very physical: your microclimate - a thin layer of protective air that surrounds you. Your microclimate is as delicate as it is crucial, and it is regulated by the heat balance.

HEAT BALANCE

e are comfortable when the amount of heat production equals the amount of heat loss, meaning that our core body temperature is in balance.

WATERPROOFNESS Conduction is the transfer of heat from a warm object to a colder one. Rain, snow, the inside perspiration: wet clothing quickly conducts heat from your body. The waterproof membrane combined with a durably water-repellent fabric protects you from the external elements, preventing water droplets to pass through while allowing them to roll off, thus keeping you dry and comfortable. WINDPROOFNESS Convective cooling is the wind chill effect, when cold wind blows through your garment, robbing your body of the warmth trapped next to your skin. This is why windproof performance is essential for a clothing system to be comfortable. Windproofness will not let air pass through the fabric. BREATHABILITY When water evaporates off your skin, it cools you down, preventing you from overheating. Your clothes need to let moisture vapor escape. This is why breathable performance is essential. Breathability is about letting sweat escape in the form of moisture vapor. We require our fabrics to breathe well enough to allow your sweat to evaporate even during heavy exertion. LAYERING FOR COMFORT

Wearing the proper clothing system will ensure the optimal combination of comfort and protection. Base layer Worn next to the skin, this layer is made of non-absorbent fibers that wick moisture away from the body. Synthetic fibers, wool or silk are options. Insulating layer Worn over the base layer, keeps you warm. Down delivers exceptional warmth for its weight, but loses effectiveness if wet. Synthetic insulators retain some of their insulating ability even when wet. Wool and fleece are other options. Weather protection layer Protects you against the elements while keeping the insulating layers dry. It must be breathable to keep moisture from accumulating in the other layers. GORE-TEX fabrics are proven options.

MEMBRANE & LAMINATES

he GORE-TEX membrane is an extremely thin layer of expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE) that is bonded to an outer textile and, in many instances, a lining. It is durably waterproof and windproof, yet it is breathable. This means water from the outside doesn’t penetrate, cold wind doesn’t pass through, yet perspiration can escape.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

The GORE-TEX membrane has over 1.4 billion pores per square centimeter.

hese pores are 20,000 times smaller than a water droplet, making the membrane totally waterproof, but they are 700 times larger than a water vapor molecule, which means perspiration passes through and escapes.

The GORE-TEX membrane, the key feature of all GORE-TEX products, is inside the product and therefore not visible. To make it suitable for the intended use, the GORE-TEX membrane is bonded to high quality textiles and reinforced with other materials. Body oils and products such as insect repellent can contaminate the membrane, ultimately causing it to leak. To prevent contamination and ensure durability of the fabric, a protective layer is integrated into the membrane.

GORE-TEX fabrics are created by laminating the GORE-TEX membrane between high-performance lining and outer textiles. Multiple GORE-TEX fabrics have been developed for specific end uses, each one ensuring outstanding durably waterproof, windproof and breathable protection.

SEAM TAPING – BRINGING IT ALL TOGETHER

very stitch in a seam is a potential leak. That’s why for maximum waterproof protection, we rely on GORE-SEAM® tape.

GORE-TEX GARMENTS CONSTRUCTIONS: 2 LAYER GORE-TEX FABRIC The GORE-TEX membrane is bonded to the outer textile. On the inside the membrane is protected by a separate drop lining.

2 LAYER INSULATED GORE-TEX FABRIC The GORE-TEX membrane is bonded to the outer fabric. A special insulation layer is suspended freely between the 2-layer laminate and the inner lining.

3 LAYER GORE-TEX FABRIC The GORE-TEX membrane is bonded to the outer textile as well as a backer material on the inside.

2.5 LAYER GORE-TEX FABRIC The GORE-TEX membrane is bonded to the outer textile. On the inside the membrane is equipped with an additional treatment that makes it more durable, no need to insert a inner lining.

LINER We sell a laminate that consists of the GORE-TEX membrane either bonded directly to a liner fabric or freely suspended between the liner and outer face textile. In both cases the customer adds the outer face textile.

2-LAYER FILM OUT FABRIC The GORE-TEX membrane is bonded to a backer on the outside, there is no face textile.

If you are not satisfied with the waterproofness, windproofness or breathability of your GORE-TEX product we will repair it, replace it or refund your purchase price. As the original owner, hold on to your purchase receipt and we’ve got you covered for the useful life of your product. The decision to repair, replace, refund or reject is made at the discretion of Gore based upon an examination of the product's useful life at the time of return. Leakage and performance issues caused by accidents, misuse, normal wear & tear or lack of proper care are excluded but may be repaired at a reasonable price. Be sure to always follow our care instructions and regularly wash, dry and reapply DWR to your product to ensure a longer product life and better performance. > GORE-TEX INFINIUM™ products are not covered by this guarantee. > This limited guarantee does not affect your statutory rights as a consumer.

LACK OF CARE

The decision whether a product has useful life at the time of return is made by Gore, based on an individual evaluation of the product, taking into account various factors such as the age of the product, intended end use, reported failure, proper care, and any unrepaired or unrepairable damage present.

Products found to be failing due to a lack of care. Be sure to always follow our care instructions to ensure a longer product life and better performance.

PRODUCT'S USEFUL LIFE Useful life is the length of time a product can reasonably deliver expected performance relative to its intended end use. For example, a pair of running shoes should not be expected to last as long as a mountaineering jacket. As a general guideline, if you’re caring for your garment regularly to including wash and drying, repairing damage and reapplying DWR as needed, your product has the potential to perform for much longer.

REAPPLY DWR Part of caring for your product is maintaining the DWR. It’s necessary for the product to perform as intended, but it’s not permanent. Regular wear and tear, plus exposure to dirt, detergents, insect repellent, and other impurities can shorten its lifespan. The good news is that following our care instructions can often solve this problem and when necessary, reapplying DWR is easy. However, an old or heavily worn garment may no longer bead water, even after proper care and a DWR treatment, indicating that the product has reached the end of useful life..

LACK OF DWR Durable Water Repellent (DWR) is necessary for the product to perform as intended. It’s the responsibility of the consumer to ensure DWR is reapplied as needed throughout the useful life of that product. Water no longer beading up on an old or heavily worn garment, even after application of a new DWR treatment, is an indication that the garment has reached the end of its useful life.

END OF USEFUL LIFE Products damaged or worn beyond the possibility of repair or restoration to a fully functional waterproof, windproof and breathable condition.

USED PURCHASES Products purchased as used. This included most purchases made from auction and classifieds sites, thrift stores or private sellers.

RENTAL SERVICES Products offered for rent. This includes products offered on online gear rental platforms, ski schools, guided outings or outdoor clubs.

ISSUED PRODUCTS Products issued to the professional end-user by their employer e.g. military, law enforcement, fire & safety, industrial and corporate uses.

Numb fingers can ruin any day. GORE-TEX INFINIUM™ WINDSTOPPER® gloves block all wind, making them ideal for cycling or running, or just spending a day out with friends. They’re also extremely breathable, and feel great against your skin. So if you’re halfway through a winter trek, or just rushing around town doing chores, choose gloves that treat your active fingers better.

On for the cycle home. Off to use your phone. On for a weekend run. Off to tie your laces. Some gloves slow you down. GORE-TEX INFINIUM™ stretch gloves are designed to keep on. Good care will ensure excellent performance and extend the useful life of your product. That’s better for you and for the environment. Routine care to include washing, drying, and reapplying DWR as needed, will ensure excellent performance and extend the useful life of your gear. So don’t forget to always read the manufacturer’s care instructions – usually found on the inside tag of your product.

HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR GORE-TEX OUTERWEAR Taking good care of your GORE-TEX garments is easy - and that includes washing your waterproof GORE-TEX outerwear and non-waterproof clothing from the GORE-TEX INFINIUM™ product range. Be sure to carefully follow the garment manufacturer’s instructions too (usually found on the inner label). Things You'll Need Washing Machine • Liquid Detergent • Dryer (recommended) • Iron, towel or cloth (optional, if no dryer available) • Water Repellent Treatment (as needed to restore water repellency)

WASH STEP 1 Before washing, zip the front, pockets and pit zips completely. Fasten any loose flaps and straps. STEP 2 Machine wash (105°F/40°C). Use a small amount of liquid detergent. Rinse twice and minimize spinning.Don't use powder detergents, fabric softeners, stain removers, or bleach. Don't wash with heavily soiled clothing.

DRY STEP 1 Tumble dry on a warm gentle cycle or line dry your outerwear. Don't dry at a high temperature. STEP 2 Once dry, tumble dry for a further 20 minutes to reactivate the durable water repellent (DWR) treatment. If a dryer isn't available, iron the garment on a gentle setting. When ironing, protect the garment with a towel or cloth. Don't use steam. You can do this step any time you notice the water repellency needs a boost.

RE-APPLY STEP 1 If water doesn’t bead and run off after washing, you’ll need to reapply a durable water repellent (DWR). Use a DWR product of your choice, available as a pump-spray or a wash-in product. STEP 2 Following application, tumble dry your garment for 20 minutes to activate the DWR treatment. Or iron the dry garment on a gentle setting (warm, no steam) , placing a towel or cloth between the garment and the iron. Don't apply DWR to GORE-TEX products with a persistent beading surface (e.g. GORE-TEX SHAKEDRY™ garments). See special care instructions below.

SPECIAL CARE Washing GORE-TEX garments with persistent beading surfaces (e.g. GORE-TEX SHAKEDRY™ garments) is slightly different as they have no textile outer layer - the outer layer is the GORE-TEX membrane itself and there's no need for DWR. Machine wash on delicate cycle at 105°F/40°C. Do not dry clean. Do not tumble dry. Do not iron. Do not bleach. Do not apply DWR treatment.

HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR GORE-TEX GLOVES From motorbiking down a highway to skiing in the middle of winter, you want your GORE-TEX gloves to keep your hands dry, comfortable and protected. To keep

Cloth or brush • Lukewarm water • Boot drier (optional) • Stain remover (optional) • Water Repellent Treatment (optional)

WASH

WASH STEP 1 Remove the laces, then shake out sand, gravel, and dirt from inside the footwear. If possible, remove and shake out the foot bed or insole. STEP 2 Brush off loose dirt with a sponge or brush. Then use lukewarm water with a small amount of liquid detergent. For leather shoes, check manufacturer's instructions. Don't use bleach. Don't wash in the washing machine.

DRY

DRY Dry naturally at moderate temperatures. Avoid direct heat. Don't let the footwear stay wet too long. Convection-style boot dryers work well.

RE-APPLY

RE-APPLY Once water no longer beads and runs off, reapply a durable water repellent (DWR). Use a water-based restorative, available as a pump-spray. Don't use waterproofing waxes or greases, as they can affect your footwear's breathability.

SPECIAL CARE GORE-TEX SCENT CONTROL FOOTWEAR If needed, scent-eliminating sprays, and cover scents can be used on GORE-TEX Scent Control Footwear. Used correctly, they will not affect the properties of the GORE-TEX membrane. Use unscented liquid detergent and wash as per regular GORE-TEX footwear. STAIN REMOVAL Whether it’s mud, oil, or something more mysterious, follow the footwear manufacturer's instructions to remove stains. Only use recommended products. We don't recommend using stain removers - only liquid detergents.

SPECIAL CARE LEATHER CARE

Do not place damp leather gloves on other garments: dyed leather can stain when it is wet. Do your best to protect gloves against damage from buckles, ski edges, and other sharp objects.

WHAT IS DWR? them in adventure-ready condition, follow these easy glove home care instructions and be sure to check the manufacturer’s care instructions on the inner label too.

Many GORE-TEX products are treated with an ultra-thin durable water repellent (DWR), a polymer that’s applied to the outermost fabric layer.

DWR reduces the surface tension of the fabric, so that water simply rolls off. How it works

Shake out the glove to make sure there’s no grit or dirt inside the main hand chamber and finger cavities. Hand wash in lukewarm water. Only use a small amount of liquid detergent Don't machine wash (machines can be too rough) or dry clean Don't use fabric softeners or bleach

Gently squeeze water off, from the fingers to the wrist. Line dry. Position the gloves with the wrists pointing down. Shell gloves can be tumble dried on a low heat setting. When gloves are half dry, put them on and make a fist to restore their original shape. Don’t place in the sun, or on a heater. Don't iron your gloves.

When water no longer beads and runs off the gloves after washing and drying, you’ll need to re-apply a durable water repellent (DWR). Use the pump spray DWR product of your choice. Use a water-based leather care product for leather gloves.

If the DWR on the textile is fully functional, water droplets from rain gather on the surface of the DWR coating as round drops and roll off if the textile surface is held at an angle. However, if the DWR on the textile is worn off, water droplets can penetrate into the textile. Bad DWR

Good DWR

DWR isn’t permanent Regular wear and tear, exposure to sunscreen lotion, dirt, detergents, insect repellent, other materials can shorten the lifespan of the treatment. If that happens water can saturate the outer fabric of your gear making you feel damp and clammy, as if your gear was leaking.

The good news: restoring the water repellency of your GORE-TEX product is extremely easy.

STAIN REMOVAL Always follow the manufacturer's instructions carefully. Use a pre-wash treatment. Make sure you rinse the stain removal product off thoroughly before washing.
