HOW TO DETERMINE YOUR SKIN TYPE
Normal skin feels comfortable and doesn’t get shiny.
Skin care will always work best when it is matched with your skin type and it is easy to determine your skin type at home.
Normal skin is less prone to breakouts and issues of sensitivity.
Test your skin type by washing your face with a gentle cleanser and wait 15 - 30 minutes to see how your skin feels. It’s possible to have the appearance of a skin type if your skincare routine hasn’t been consistent, you are under or overexfoliating, have a compromised skin barrier, or have a specific skin condition that is causing specific issues. It’s essential to pay attention to how our skin looks and feels, have a consistent skincare routine, make an appropriate assessment, and continually reassess over time. Genetics play a major role in our skin type and can change throughout our life.
NORMAL SKIN If your skin feels comfortable after cleansing and you don’t feel the need to apply moisturizer over this time, especially in the first 15 minutes, your skin is probably normal. Also, your skin will appear soft and won’t produce shine over the 30 minutes.
DRY SKIN You may have dry skin if it feels tight right away after you’ve used a gentle cleanser. Or, if it felt okay right away, but over the 30 minutes, it feels uncomfortable, tight, stingy, you can see more lines appear, or it looks dull and rough.

TIP #4 CONSISTENT CLEANSING AND MOISTURIZING An effective routine starts with clean skin and ends with moisturizer. Be consistent, and keep it simple! Consistently doing your essential steps is a much better and more sustainable approach versus inconsistently having a longer routine. Remember these important steps: Avoid harsh cleansers that contain SLS, or other harsh surfactants that can strip our skin barrier Try double cleansing (whether with facial oils or makeup remover wipes) to ensure dirt, debris, and other impurities are effectively removed from the skin’s surface

However, even with skin cycling, we may sometimes need to change the order based on how our skin responds, so paying attention to your skin’s needs is essential. SKINCARE TIPS FOR EVERY DECADE

SKINCARE IN YOUR 30 s KEY FOCUS: Protection and Prevention In our 30s, we start to notice meaningful changes in the skin. The loss of collagen that started slowly in our 20s can start to pop up in the form of fine lines. In fact, by the time we’re in our 30s, we have lost about 40% of the ceramides in our skin’s protective lipid barrier. We’re also losing 1% of our collagen yearly. Sun damage and dark spots can start to surface, while breakouts can continue to cause irritation and hyperpigmentation. YOUR RECOMMENDED ROUTINE:
One of the biggest issues standing in the way of skincare success is not using the proper products that meet our skin’s needs when it needs it. Our skin has different needs for various concerns, seasons, and of course, ages. Finding the right products to get your best skin at every age is important!
Battling breakouts? Try exfoliating (with AHAs and BHAs 1-3x a week) to help keep pores clear and reduce the look of inflammation. Niacinamide can also help with oil management, breakouts, and barrier protection — plus, it plays well with other products in your routine. If you aren’t already using antioxidants and vitamin C in your daily routine, it’s time to start. Stay consistent and pair it with SPF during the day. This will help even the look of dark spots and sun damage, while revealing a bright-looking glow. Add retinol, but start low and slow to see how your skin reacts. Adding a hyaluronic acid into your antioxidant day routine will give the skin a boost of hydration for a more supple look, too. Hyperfocus on ingredients that further support your natural lipid barrier, like peptides, fatty acids, and ceramides. This will elevate your routine and help your skin look and feel its best.

Years of sun damage begin to become more dramatic. This can lead to age spots, more fine lines, and deeper wrinkles. YOUR RECOMMENDED ROUTINE:
Exfoliate consistently, but in moderation. Opt for AHAs twice weekly to support collagen production. This will also help to remove dead skin cells for a smootherlooking complexion. Using more potent retinol regularly at night, especially if you didn’t start in your 30s, will help reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and hyperpigmentation.

Esthetician Tip: Keep up your retinol use. If you feel your skin becoming drier with hormonal changes, try a retinol cream or work down to fewer days a week. Make sure you top your retinol with a good moisturizer to keep the skin feeling hydrated.
Keep your cleansing and exfoliation routines gentle. Avoid things that may strip your skin’s natural lipid barrier and make the skin more dry. Stay away from ingredients like SLS in cleansers, alcohol in toners, using hot water in your cleansing routine, and over-exfoliating. Continuing with targeted skincare for your specific concerns will help you get the most out of your routine. For example, adding in products specifically for the neck and eye areas if that is an area of concern. You can also try more targeted treatments for dark spots and hyperpigmentation. Hydration and moisture are key to combating the look of increased fine lines, dryness and wrinkles. Hyaluronic acid and other humectants will help with hydration, and a go-to moisturizer with ceramides, richer emollients, and peptides will help support moisturization and barrier function. Peptides may also support natural collagen synthesis and improve the look of skin firmness.
SKINCARE IN YOUR 60 s KEY FOCUS: Nourish and Protect In our 60s and beyond, our cell turnover and collagen synthesis are significantly impacted. During this decade, our skin is thinner and heals much more slowly. Skin barrier performance is reduced, and you may notice that skin tends to dry out and become rough. Some blotchiness and hyperpigmentation may appear, so you’ll need a routine that nourishes, replenishes, and protects. BELIEVE IN YOUR BEAUTIFUL | 16

fact, up to 90% of the damage we see is from UV exposure. Be sure to use SPF and antioxidants to support your healthy skincare journey at every age.
Continue to support your skin with daily antioxidant use in a good vitamin C serum. Don’t skip serums with hyaluronic acid, as they work to hydrate the appearance of the skin. These will target multiple skin concerns from lines and wrinkles to hyperpigmentation. They can also support you in your skincare journey by helping to prevent further damage (and visibly improve the look of existing damage). Use active ingredients regularly! Understand that timelines can be longer for results in the appearance of more significant concerns, but you absolutely can get great results at any age with consistent use. HOW TO APPLY YOUR PRODUCTS
GOPURE
Often, there is no one best way to apply your skincare products, but using them consistently is key to achieving your skincare goal. However, when applying your skincare it is essential to think about the amount of product, the order of application, and the action of applying the product.
How much ‘slip’ a product has will help you determine which motion to use. Can it glide across the face to work into the skin, or does it needs to be pushed or patted on? The temperature of a product will impact the slip as well. Colder products are thicker in texture, whereas warmer products are thinner.
When doing all three of these things properly, you will achieve maximum product absorption and in return see better results.
Lastly, where you START the application is where the most product will be applied. Starting with a large amount of product on a small area and working it around the face from there may not be the best idea.
SKINCARE APPLICATION TECHNIQUES PRE CLEANSER Elevate your skincare routine with a double cleanse! If using Argan Oil, massage it on and let sit for about a minute. Wipe it away gently. BOOSTERS After serums, let’s get boosting! Each type of booster will need to be applied differently based on the type of product. Be sure to review the instructions on the packaging to properly apply the product. Boosters may come in serum, powder, or cream form. EYE CREAM Eye Care is a delicate application, so it is best to dab on the product so you don’t tug or pull at your skin. You can massage an eye cream in using light, circular motions while working outward with your middle or ring finger. You can use your roller here too to work on puffiness and dark circles.
GOPURE
MOISTURIZER Generally, moisturizers are going to have good slip and you can massage them in gently. Use a long gliding motion for the best results. It is important not to overdo the massage and agitate your products. Too much pressure can create pilling when we don’t let your layers absorb, we use too much of each layer, or we agitate the layers with too deep of a massage on the skin. NECK CREAM If you want to target crepey neck skin and décolleté, a neck cream is a great option. When applying a neck cream, use a circular pulsing motion up the center of your neck and down the sides then from the center to your collarbones. OILS If you are new to oils, just a drop or two will do! Pressing in oils is my ideal method because pure oils can help push our products deeper, but we don’t want them to pull our moisturizer. Focus on areas you want more glow, press it in all over or dab it around the eyes. You can even massage it into the lips for more smooth, subtle skin.

What is Skin Cycling? BELIEVE IN YOUR BEAUTIFUL | 23
WHAT IS SKIN CYCLING?
Skin cycling is the concept of systematically alternating your nighttime skincare routines to effectively integrate potent active ingredients or products, like retinol and exfoliants, without disrupting your skin’s barrier and managing unnecessary irritation.
GOPURE
So how can we use these potent, differencemaking ingredients safely and effectively without irritation and confusion? The answer is skin cycling! Skin cycling follows a series of nightly skincare routines that eliminate the issues of mixing ingredients that don’t play well together, as well as, eliminating the confusion of complicated routines. This method can make using these “stronger” ingredients more easy-to-use and more tolerable on skin.
HOW SKIN CYCLING WORKS
BENEFITS OF A SKIN CYCLING ROUTINE There are some ingredients that should only be used in your PM skincare routine, like exfoliants and retinol. However, these ingredients shouldn’t be used in the same routine as they can lead to irritation if mis- or overused. Furthermore, there are some people who may feel like they can’t use these ingredients at all because of the irritation they experience.
NIGHT 1: EXFOLIATION Kick off the skin cycle with a routine that uses chemical or physical exfoliants. Exfoliation can help smooth the look of uneven skin tone and brighten the appearance of the skin. These types of products also help remove dead skin cells and allow for meaningful penetration of the active ingredients on night two. Chemical exfoliants utilize ingredients like AHAs, BHA, or enzymes that support the removal of dead skin cells. Physical exfoliants are products like scrubs that manually work to remove dead skin cells.
BELIEVE IN YOUR BEAUTIFUL | 24
WHAT IS SKIN CYCLING?
Esthetician Tip: Gently massage the exfoliator on to cleansed, damp skin. Let it sit for a few minutes to get the most out of the glycolic, lactic, and malic acids. Then, gently massage the product off the skin with warm water. Use the type of exfoliant that is best for your skin type and skin concerns.
GOPURE
NIGHT 3 & 4: RECOVERY We want to end the cycle with our recovery nights. These two nights are where we use ingredients that nourish the skin and support the skin’s natural lipid barrier. Our natural lipid barrier is made of fatty acids, cholesterol, and ceramides and is crucial in helping keep skin healthy-looking and hydrated. When we give it the support it needs, we can avoid unnecessary redness, dehydration, dryness, breakouts, and irritation. You can’t go wrong with ingredients like niacinamide, panthenol, hyaluronic acid, peptides, or omega-rich oils. Esthetician Tip: Make sure you use an eye cream, moisturizer, and neck cream with all of these routines.
One thing that is important to note is that this “schedule” is just a starting place and can be adjusted as needed. NIGHT 2: RETINOL Adjustments are ideal for those who have On Night 2 reach for a vitamin A derivative had issues tolerating retinol or suffer from (aka retinol) of choice to maximize its anti- uncomfortable irritation or other side aging benefits.
