MESSAGE FROM THE CEO Dear Goodwill Community, Every year, we set ambitious goals in line with the organizations’ strategic plan. Most years, we implement all or nearly all of them. From time to time, however, plans get derailed. The COVID-19 pandemic undeniably hit our community hard. We offer our sincere condolences to those who suffered personal losses. When the pandemic hit locally, our offices, warehouses, and retail stores closed in accordance with state and local orders. We understand the need to keep everyone as safe as possible and complied immediately. During the initial phase of the closures, donors continued to drop items behind our stores, not realizing the items they had the good intention of donating would end up in a landfill. They piled up quickly. We realized the need to open select donation sites and worked with local officials to resume donation operations on a limited basis. About half of our donation centers opened with a skeleton crew. As people spent time at home, many cleaned out closets and gathered items they had meant to get around to donating. Our inventory grew to levels previously unseen. We are grateful for the community’s continued support in the form of donations, patience, and understanding. We know store closures, modified donation processes, strict safety protocols, significant capacity restrictions, mask mandates, and social distancing have not been easy – but it has all be necessary. The safety of our employees, donors, and shoppers always comes first. Our Mission Services leadership team continued to work through the pandemic. We adjusted how we support our community during the shutdown. As we all began to adjust to the new normal, several employees on the Mission Services team worked remotely, and we quickly developed a system for offering an expanded array of virtual services. It was not easy to find work for our clients - as job opportunities were scarce - but we continued to provide support and direction on how to attain essential services and support. We served 738 clients in 2020, enrolled 542 into various mission programs, and placed 413 into employment. Store openings that had been in the works long before the pandemic hit were delayed, but we were able to add two new stores - without traditional grand opening celebrations. The Thousand Oaks Donation only site became a Goodwill Select Store, and we quietly opened our first store in Port Hueneme. As we move forward, we remain focused on expanding our reach in the community to serve those with barriers to employment to get them on a path of self-sufficiency. Toward the end of the year, we secured a new facility in Oxnard that will be home to our Corporate Office and Ventura County Mission Services office. It also combines all our warehouse and logistics operations under one roof. The move will lead to significant operational and logistical improvements, reduce overhead, and improve moral as our team unites. As individuals, we remain resilient, coming together to form ways to make our community stronger. Together, we are helping change lives through the power of work. Sincerely, Peter Marcus, President & CEO Goodwill Industries of Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties

GOODWILL ® SUCCESS STORY Evan was a Youth Career Services (YCS) Having Evan on program participant. Evan became part the team has been of the program because his mom met an amazing privilege!” with a Goodwill YCS Counselor at a Goodwill tabling event at the Old Town Market in Lompoc, and she signed him up to be contacted. When Evan came to the YCS program, he lacked the drive and confidence needed to go out and find employment. He was very shy but articulate. He had never worked before and was unsure where to start. Evan had a clear career goal of becoming a filmmaker but also understood there were not a lot of job opportunities in that field in the Lompoc area. His YCS Counselor discussed in depth other job opportunities he might be interested in. Evan is an Eagle Scout through The Boy Scouts of America and had worked as a camp counselor for four summers in a row guiding and mentoring youth. Evan decided childcare was something he had always been interested in and he enjoyed working with youth. He worked with his YCS Counselor to complete activities, create a resume, and practice interview skills, which helped him gain the confidence he needed to start work experience at the Lompoc YMCA. Shortly after completing his volunteer work, he was hired by the YMCA as a group leader.

COMMUNITY PARTNER SPOTLIGHT The Lompoc YMCA appreciates how enthusiastic and passionate Evan is about working with children. He has been a tremendous asset to the team at the Lompoc Valley YMCA. The YMCA stated, “having Evan on the team has been an amazing privilege!” Evan said the YCS program helped his confidence with even wanting to go to work. Through the Youth Career Services Evan was able to get the job readiness skills that he needed to be confident and successful on his new career path. His YCS Counselor stays in touch with him on a regular basis. He is very happy with his job and thankful for the opportunities he received through the YCS program.
