Platte River Charity Shoot Sees Great Turn Out With safety procedures and precautions in place, Goodwill Industries of Greater Nebraska and event partner, Hornady Manufacturing hosted the 27th Annual Platte River Charity Shoot at the Heartland Public Shooting Park, located west of Grand Island. Despite facing new challenges with COVID-19, the event had the advantage of being an outdoor event and having the ability to spread things out compared to what had been done in previous years. Individual shooters competed for six places in four Lewis Class Divisions, having the opportunity to win some amazing prizes that included several shot guns, optics, gift bags and ammo. Youth shooters had a chance to win one of eight college scholarships that were given away totaling $5,000. In addition, corporate teams won some great prizes. The event overall saw an outstanding turn out with 27 individuals, 23 corporate teams and 29 youth/adult team entries. Many Goodwill employees, board members and friends of Goodwill volunteered their time to help with the event. “We couldn’t have done it without the outstanding sponsors, shooters and volunteers. The community’s support for our event this year was amazing” said Lindsey Miles, Director of Marketing and Development, who was the event coordinator. The Platte River Charity Shoot is Goodwill Industries of Greater Nebraska’s only fundraiser besides the annual drive that kicks off in November. Funds raised at the event help support the mission services & programs that Goodwill Industries of Greater Nebraska provides for individuals experiencing a developmental disability, mental health condition, substance use disorder, acquired brain injury or face barriers such as poverty or involvement in the legal system. What is ShopGoodwill.com? Shopgoodwill.com is the first e-commerce auction site created, owned and operated by a nonprofit organization; more than 120 Goodwill organizations from around the country and Canada list and auction unique items on the site, including art, antiques, collectibles, apparel, jewelry, name brand clothing, electronics and more. Revenue from this site supports the Goodwill mission to help people overcome challenges, promote independence, help people become successfully employed, support goals of wellness and recovery, teach responsible behavior and provide safe and affordable housing.
How does ShopGoodwill.com work? Similar to Ebay - online shoppers can shop an assortment of items on ShopGoodwill.com and can place bids on items in an online auction setting or have the option to “Buy It Now”.
What kinds of items will I find on ShopGoodwill.com? ShopGoodwill.com online auction site features around 93,000 items up for grabs at any given time, including antiques, art, books, records, cameras, electronic equipment, name brand clothing, collectibles, home décor, jewelry and gemstones, musical instruments, sports, toys and more.
In all my years working for Goodwill, I do not remember our Annual Awards Dinner ever being canceled. I recall some years we were concerned about stormy weather, but never in my wildest dreams did I ever picture a year like 2020. Our Annual Dinner is always a wonderful event and a time to celebrate the accomplishments of folks receiving services and recognize our community partners, employers, board members and employees. While we were not able to host our Annual Dinner, we did purchase the awards all our honorees would have received that evening. We are allowing flexibility for each program/ department to decide how they would like to recognize participants, community partners, employers of the year and employee’s years of service. Here is to hoping for a typical annual dinner in 2021.
2019 Employee of the Year Lacey Bonner
Lacey Bonner was named our 2019 Employee of the Year. Lacey is the Retail Administrative Assistant and has been employed by Goodwill for three years. Lacey interacts with staff and participants with a positive attitude and is always willing to go above and beyond and to help with various projects.
The sale of items from our e-commerce area, support Goodwill Industries of Greater Nebraska’s mission to help people overcome challenges, promote independence, help people become successfully employed, support goals of wellness and recovery, teach responsible behavior and provide safe and affordable housing.
Does the e-commerce department sell things on other online platforms? In addition to listing items on ShopGoodwill.com, our e-commence department also lists items on popular websites such as Ebay and Amazon.
