MELISSA ERRICO I CAN DREAM, CAN’T I?

Melissa Errico is a Tony Award-nominated Broadway actress, singer, and author who hails from Manhasset, NY. Touring the world with her inimitable thematic concerts, from Singapore to Paris to San Francisco and beyond, she has built a unique niche in the world of theater and jazz – so much so that when Steven Reineke, principal conductor of the New York Pops, introduced her Carnegie Hall debut, he announced that “Melissa Errico is a unique force in the musical life of New York City: a Broadway star, a concert artist, and an author who regularly contributes essays to The New York Times. There’s really no one like her!” The Times itself summed up her appeal simply: “Any chance to hear Melissa Errico sing is a chance worth taking.” October 9th, at 8 PM, Landmark On Main Street, Port Washington, Box Office: 516-767-6444.

Straight Up Down opens with the winning new single “Very Delicious,” a sumptuous and spirited affair reminiscent of the bluesy soul of John Handy’s 1970s hit “Hard Work.” The selection of “Very Delicious” as an album opener is perfect as Elliot’s supple and agile tenor lines twist and turn to delight elevating the mood and urge you to join in and clap along.“Driftin’,” not to be confused with Herbie Hancock’s composition, is a sultry mid-tempo affair that showcases Elliot’s stunning tone dancing alongside an oscillating groove propelled by drummer Trevor Lawrence and percussionist Lenny Castro. The track was produced and mixed by labelmate and fellow tenorman, Euge Groove, who also produced and mixed “Very Delicious.” “Euge and I have been friends for decades,” Richard shares. Before he did any solo work, he was the person that I recommended to take my place in Tower of Power and because of that we have a real connection and history together.” Straight Up Down is the first time Euge and Elliot have worked on a record together. September 26th 8:00 PM, Madison Theatre, 1000 Hempstead Avenue, Rockville Centre, Box Office: 516-323-4444.

SPORTS BEAT Four members of the team: Mookie Wilson, Roger McDowell, Jesse Orosco, and Sid Fernandez, met with the media before the on-field ceremonies. When asked about the differences between the 1986 and the 2026 Mets besides talent, Wilson was quite candid. “We were expected to win, and management made that point clear. I don’t think that is the case these days.” McDowell spoke very highly of Kevin Mitchell’s contributions to the success of the 1986 Mets. He told me privately that a key reason they did not repeat in 1986 was the decision of Mets general manager Frank Cashen to trade Mitchell to the San Diego Padres for outfielder Kevin McReynolds. While he was a good player, the quiet McReynolds, who grew up in Arkansas, was never comfortable playing in New York, and was not a good fit with his more boisterous teammates.

As expected, the Mets used the August 3 trading deadline to overturn onethird of their roster as they traded veterans like Clay Holmes, Luke Weaver, Brooks Raley and Tyrone Taylor for a slew of prospects. The best ranked of those are infielder Jefferson Rojas, who came over from the Cubs for Holmes and Taylor, and Sammy Stafura who was sent by the Pirates in the Luke Weaver deal. The Mets also had to send $8 million to Pittsburgh. Rojas and Stafura had better make their way to Flushing sooner rather than later. It has been a dreary year for the Mets, but one bright spot was the August 1 celebration of the 40th anniversary of the 1986 World Series-winning team.

The third annual Fanatics Fest, held at Javits Center in mid-July was a resounding success as approximately 200,000 people attended the sports version of Comic Con. Every sports league had an interactive booth, and the biggest names in athletics showed up. If you were waiting for your chance to pose

STARS LIGHT UP BROADWAY THIS FALL

Lupita Nyong’o, Edie Falco, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Ed Harris and Billy Crystal are dazzling the New York theater this fall. Tony-winner Billy Crystal returns to Broadway in a new solo show “Billy Crystal 860.” Like his moving autobiographical play about his childhood and father’s death “700 Sundays” in 2004, Crystal once again mines tragedy in his own life with humor and hard-won wisdom. Here the subject is the devastating loss of his home (street number 860) of more than 45 years in the Pacific Palisades wildfires as he reflects on the lessons learned in surviving and rebuilding. Scott Ellis directs. Performances begin October 1. (Imperial Theatre) billycrystal860.com In the first revival of Jon Robin Baitz’s 2011 Tony Award-winning play, “Other Desert Cities,” Julia Louis-Dreyfus makes her Broadway debut as the matriarch of a dysfunctional family of the Hollywood elite — writers, producers and political conservatives. husband, Allison Janney her back-from-rehab sister, Lily Rabe her daughter, and Joe Keery her son. Set in Palm Springs over Christmas 2004, the searingly witty play, directed by John Benjamin Hickey, concerns the toxic secrets that upend the family’s equilibrium when their daughter – a depressive, tormented troublemaker reveals that she has written an explosive tell-all memoir. Previews begin September 29. (Hudson Theatre) How far would you go to be queen bee? Tony-winner Patina Miller, “The Gilded Age’s” Denée Benton, and “Boop’s” dynamo Jasmine Amy Rogers head the cast of Jocelyn Bioh’s funny, perceptive play “School Girls: Or, the African Mean Girls Play” about the universal similarities and enormous differences facing teenage girls around the world. With its catchline “Even a Queen Bee Can Get Stung,” the comedy, set in 1986 at an exclusive boarding school in Ghana, centers on the reigning queen bee, the presumptive winner of the Miss Ghana pageant, whose position and popularity are threatened by the arrival a new American transfer student. Under the direction of Whitney White, Lucia Aremu, Erin Morton, Nia Otchere-Sarfo, Jordan Rice, Heather Alicia Simms round out the cast in the Manhattan Theatre Company’s Broadway debut of the 2017 Off-Broadway hit. (Samuel J. Friedman Theatre) Lupita Nyong’o (September 1-26),Tony-winner Phillipa Soo, Susannah Flood (“Liberation”), Hari Nef and Emmy-winner Edie Falco sequentially star in the role of “A,” a woman struggling with the trauma of domestic physical abuse, in the Off-Broadway return of Marin Ireland’s semiautobiographical play, “Pre-existing Condition,” directed by Maria Dizzia. The cast also includes Greg Keller, Dael Orlandersmith and Sarah Steele. (Greenwich House) preexistingconditionplay.com

By Lloyd Carroll with the Vince Lombardi Super Bowl trophy, this was your opportunity. Several popular television and radio shows had live broadcasts. ESPN had Stephen A. Smith host “First Take” on the main stage. SNY had Sal Licata in the anchor spot of “Baseball Night in New York” with Darryl Strawberry and Keith Hernandez as his guests. WFAN broadcast live all weekend with the biggest crowds showing up for Craig Carton’s afternoon show. Darius Clark better known as “King DAC” on TNT’s “Dunkman” competition show, set a standing jump record of 53 inches at Fanatics Fest. He was wearing Reebok’s newest high-performance basketball shoe, the Engine A-26. ESPN, which has a production deal with Fanatics (the 2026 ESPYs held in NYC were a joint venture). ESPN aired a documentary on Fanatics Fest which was hosted by Knicks star Karl-Anthony Towns and Jordyn Woods. It can be accessed on the ESPN Plus streaming service. The GBK Brand Bar was an ancillary event in NYC related to the convergence World Cup, Fanatics Fest, and the ESPYs. It was a health and wellness products showcase which attracted athletes such as Knicks star Miles McBride and Jets offensive tackle Armand Membou. The most interesting product was Dulsa, a plant-based sugar substitute which has zero calories, lowers blood glucose levels, and best of all, tastes like sugar with none of the aftertaste of most sugar substitutes. The second season of “Chad Powers,” starring Glen Powell is now playing on Hulu. Chad Powers was a character created by Eli Manning, who serves as the show’s executive director. Eli donned a disguise and used a phony Cajun accent to play a walk-on QB trying out for the Penn State Nittany Lions. The show made a promotional appearance last week at Manhattan’s Paley

Museum. Most of the cast, and Manning, took Q&A after a screening of the first two episodes of the new season. Prime Video debuted last month “The Wolf in Winter,” a three-part biographical documentary on Novak Djokovic which was timed for the 2026 US Open. It is mostly a behind-the-scenes look at Djokovic’s life growing up in war-torn Serbia, to becoming the all-time men’s Grand Slam champion. The doc, to its credit, does not shy away from the 2022 Australian Open controversy when he was kicked out of the country for refusing to take the COVID-19 vaccines.

Not to be outdone, Apple TV Plus is showing “The Dynasty: UConn Huskies.” It is a three-episode look at the most successful collegiate women’s basketball program in history. The one constant is head coach Geno Auriemma, who can be very charismatic one moment, and quickly morph into General George S. Patton when his players fail to live up to their capabilities. With real estate values skyrocketing, golf driving ranges have become scarce. That is why the Alley Pond Golf Center in northeast Queens must be treasured. It is the place where many of us first swung a golf club. I have seen folks hit buckets on the coldest winter days. The Alley Pond Golf Center just completed a $10 Million renovation. New features are an indoor golf center simulator, and a restaurant which serves both American and Asian cuisine.

Day Trippin’... Scranton, PA Has Everything To Offer

Coney Island Texas Lunch

Downtown Deli

by Rich Branciforte Not every vacation has to be to an exotic location. Sometimes a day trip is exactly what you need to get away for a short stay. Over the years we’ve gone through Scranton many times on the way to Ithaca. Usually we stopped at Calabria Restaurant in Dunmore, and twice we went to the grand buffet at The Radisson Lackawanna, a grand hotel inside the former train station. But we never really spent time there exploring. Recently we spent two weekends in Scranton and had a grand time. We’ve stayed in several hotels in the area before, but a great discovery was the ANZ Hotel on Meadow Avenue. The Trolley Museum This is a true find. It’s 5 stories, clean, Office, which was staged in Scranton, there is an breakfast included, and at a very good price. Ask Office Exhibition. Office memorabilia is everywhere for a room with a view of downtown, which is only and don’t miss the huge mural downtown. 5 minutes away. And it is only 5 minutes from the Probably the favorite part of our trip was a visit University of Scranton campus also. 570-344-9811. to The Trolley Museum, a fascinating site housing Make sure you speak to either Ann or Friday at vintage trolley cars, and a very extensive exhibit the front desk. They’re fantastic and will help you of trolley memorabilia. There is also a 50 minute with any requests. It also has an indoor pool and trolley ride on one of the restored cars from over exercise room with a nice work station in the lobby a hundred years ago, and it winds throughout the area. We booked through Trivago both times and city and takes you to PNC Ballpark and back. got great deals, almost $50 less than the listed On the same grounds as the trolley museum is price. And across the street is Manning Farm Dairy Steamtown National Historic Site, an incredible store with dozens of delicious ice creams and collection of restored and unrestored steam Italian ices, with gigantic portions locomotives and cars. There’s lots to do in Scranton. Only a few minutes In the evening, Electric City Improv at 227 away is Nay Aug Park, which is perfect for a picnic Lackawanna Ave is a really cool place. Led by Tia or just a walk through. We would suggest avoiding and her cronies, every Friday and Saturday night the trails for hiking. They’re in poor condition with they put on a 90 minute improv show. And the cost tree limbs and large, sharp stones sticking up, is only $10. making walking very difficult. And after we had Dining is an endless number of great choices. maneuvered our way down to the Gorge to see the Angelo’s at 1120 Wheeler Ave, Dunmore serves alleged waterfall, we were deeply disappointed. It fine Italian food in a restored house. Walls are filled was closed, the platform you would have to stand with Italian scenery . Service is impeccable and on was rotted. It would have been nice if they had the chicken parm platter is huge. Prices are very posted this somewhere up top before we started reasonable. our journey. Alfredo’s Cafe at 1040 S. Washington Ave Inside the park is the well-respected Everhart is great for lunch. They have over 20 different Museum which houses one of the world’s largest versions of cheesesteaks. Be forewarned however. collections of stuffed animals and birds. Quite The restaurant portion doesn’t open til 4pm and the impressive. Also inside is an exhibit on our 250th Anniversary, and for fans of the T.V. show, The pizzeria side is takeout only, with no chairs to sit

on, which we learned after 3 ½ hours of driving. Also, beware of upcharges for trying to substitute cheese whiz for mozzarella on the cheesesteaks. One of the legendary places to eat is Coney Island Texas Lunch at 100 Cedar Ave, downtown. It is an old fashioned hot dog joint which dates back to 1923. The Texas weiners are delicious, the onion rings are great, and the walls are filled with Scranton memorabilia. Buddy Clarke’s at 1604 Clay Avenue in Dunmore (8 minutes away) was a surprise find. It is THE Cheerstype local tavern that was packed on a Saturday night. The wings were delicious, but the smash burger was amazing, and had the most delicious bacon jam sauce on it. This is what a local hangout should be. Lively singles scene too. Picciocchi’s Pasta at 114 Wyoming Ave is the trendy place for everything Italian. The menu is extensive, the drink list is endless, and the owner is on site greeting and visiting each table throughout the night. Service is outstanding, and the chicken dishes in particular are stellar. Our only complaint is Resy screwed up our reservations, and apparently the restaurant is so busy at night, they don’t answer their phones during the 7-9 pm hours. Before leaving we found another gem...the Downtown Deli. Located on Spring Street,. It was packed the morning we were there, since it seemed every family that had students moving in at University were saying their goodbyes over food. Our waitress, Michelle D. was outstanding, and the pancakes were the size of your head. I had the strawberry pancakes, and they were incredibly fluffy and delicious, with the strawberries cooked right in. All in all, we spent four fun days in a town that was only a short distance away. Come on down. And they do quite a Columbus Day since Scranton has a large Italian population. You might also want to check out Old Forge which is the next town over. They claim to be “The Pizza Capital of The World.”

Best known for breakthrough hits such as “Down Under”, “Who Can It Be Now?”, “Be Good Johnny”, “Overkill”, and “It’s a Mistake”, the Men at Work have toured in fits and starts since 1996, most consistently beginning in 2018. “What has clearly stood the test of time, are the songs. Forty five years on, I still hear them in the street, on the radio, in supermarkets, they are still going strong. I would never have predicted back in 1985, that 40 years on, I would still be fronting Men At Work, this version featuring Cubans, a Peruvian, an American, and me.” - Colin Hay. The current touring line up of Men At Work is Jimmy Branly on drums, Yosmel Montejo on bass, and Allen Hinds on guitar. On sax, flute and keyboards is Rachel Mazer, and Cecilia Noël on harmony vocals and percussion. Men at Work perform at Tilles Center Concert Hall in Brookville on Thursday, September 17th.

LUCINDA WILLIAMS TO PERFORM IN WESTBURY Influential, multi-Grammy Award-winning artist Lucinda Williams and her band are bringing her soulful and captivating live show to Westbury at Flagstar at Westbury Music Fair on Wednesday, October 14th. Following a packed headlining Spring tour, and a monumental US run supporting Bob Dylan, Williams is embarking on her World’s Gone Wrong Tour, in support of her critically acclaimed new album World’s Gone Wrong. On World’s Gone Wrong, Williams gives a hardhitting wake-up call in response to the sociopolitical chaos surrounding us. The album is a raw and unapologetic set of songs that were written and recorded with a sense of urgency. Throughout nine original tracks, Williams offers songs that do not just chronicle our times but challenge us to rise above them.

PANSY DIVISION CELEBRATES 35 YEARS “In 2026, our 35th year, PANSY DIVISION will be more active than any year since the aughts,” says vocalist/guitarist Jon Ginoli. Recently returning from Europe which the band hasn’t played in ages, he says,“We had an absolutely amazing tour of UK and Europe. Every show was great - and most of them were incredible - especially after being gone from Europe for so long. It’s one of the best, most successful tours we have ever done! A new generation has discovered our band and combined with the cult following who have stayed with us all along, interest in our band is high.” These Queercore legends will return to the States for an East Coast three-show jaunt in September, including DC, Philly, and NYC and then a couple of shows supporting legendary punk band, The Avengers. They’ll appear Sept. 19th in Ridgewood, Queens at TV Eye (21+).

WOMEN WHO ROCK SINGER/ SONGWRITER + POET AMY SPEACE Award-winning singer/ songwriter + poet Amy Speace released her debut collection of poetry titled The Cardinals pubPhoto by Neilson Hubbard lished by Red Hen Press, with the accompanying single “Days of Letting Go.” Both will be featured on the “The Cardinals: Songs, Stories & Poetry” tour beginning August 27th in Columbus, OH and continuing into 2027. The Cardinals is a lyrical investigation of marriage, divorce, mothering, and mysticism told through poems that read like intimate conversations but evoke the complexities of love and loss through the natural world. Speace tackles the internal language of coming together and splitting apart, evoking rivers and birds, the South and the North, weather and racism and family history and it all comes together like birdsong. “Days of Letting Go” was recorded at Skinny Elephant Studio in East Nashville, TN and produced by Neilson Hubbard with Amy (vox), Doug Lancio (guitars), Lex Price (bass), Neilson Hubbard (drums) and Danny Mitchell (keys). MARIA ELLIS’ NEW SINGLE “LUCKY”

GIRLFRIEND, WIFE EP ‘GOD MADE ME A STAR’

Girlfriend, Wife, the Los Angeles–based duo of Kacy Hill and Tessa DeNicola, have released their debut EP God Made Me A Star, available now via 10K Projects. The 7-track project features standout single “Kinda Mean,” arriving alongside striking Morgan Maher-shot visuals. Known for her singular, atmospheric solo work, Hill joins DeNicola on a project defined by girlhood through a gritty lens. The duo’s sound moves between nostalgic late 90’s pop and understated indie, anchored by their own familiar chemistry. What began as a side project came together almost immediately, fully realized. With early support from Zane Lowe on Apple Music and a sold out live debut at Los Angeles’ Fonda Theatre supporting Fcukers, Girlfriend, Wife has already been signaled as a project to watch. Drawing from artists like Esthero, Madonna, and Dean Blunt, the project imbues femininity and a sun bleached pop sensibility. Insular, romantic, and magnetic, Girlfriend, Wife feels distinctly familiar while creating a world uniquely their own.

Rising pop artist Maria Ellis returns with her latest single, “Lucky,” a sweeping pop/R&B ballad that captures the rare feeling of finding someone who sees every part of you and chooses to stay. Released alongside an accompanying music video, the self-written and co-produced track showcases Ellis at her most vulnerable, pairing powerhouse vocals, lush string arrangements, and polished pop production to create a song that feels intimate, cinematic, and deeply heartfelt. Throughout the track, Ellis reflects on the experience of being fully known by another person while still struggling to see herself through the same compassionate lens. The song balances gratitude and vulnerability, exploring what happens when someone believes in you during moments when you’re still learning to believe in yourself. Framed by soaring melodies and rich vocal performances, “Lucky” feels both deeply personal and universally relatable. Raised on Long Island in a deeply traditional Greek Orthodox household, Ellis grew up surrounded by music while often feeling caught between different versions of herself. At home she was expressive, imaginative, and constantly writing songs.

ASIA UNVEILS NEW SINGLE “ECHO OF YOU” English rock supergroup ASIA unveiled their new single, “Echo Of You,” along with an official video, ahead of the release of their new studio album, ‘Indigo,’out on November 6th, via Frontiers Music Srl. More than four decades after redefining the sound of melodic progressive rock, ASIA returns in 2026 with ‘Indigo’ - a studio album that bridges past, present, and future with Photo by Richard Sibbald remarkable grace and authenticity. Now featuring Geoffrey Downes alongside an inspired new lineup -Virgil Donati, John Mitchell, and Harry Whitley- ASIA steps confidently into a new era while honoring the legacy that made them one of the most iconic supergroups of all time. At the heart of the album lies an emotional connection to the band’s history. ‘Indigo’ includes some of the final compositions written by the late John Wetton“Tattoo Indigo (Parts 2 & 3)” and “Chesapeake Bay”- imbuing the record with a profound sense of continuity and tribute. The presence of Wetton is further felt through the vocal performance of Harry Whitley, whose tone and phrasing evoke a striking and deeply moving resemblance to the band’s original voice. The album also features special guest appearances that elevate its scope: Steve Howe contributes acoustic guitar to the evocative “Chesapeake Bay”, while Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater) delivers a powerful performance on the bonus track “Tattoo Indigo (Part 3).”

“I See You Now” is the new single from Roger Taylor, legendary QUEEN songwriter, musician & singer, taken from his forthcoming new album Violence Insane In A Beautiful World. Out September 18th via Columbia Records, the album has already been preceded by the exuberant “Come On Summer (It’s Party Time),” featuring a performance by The Ndlovu Youth Choir. Speaking about “I See You Now”, which had its debut on Vernon Kaye’s BBC Radio 2 earlier,it features the beautiful opening lyrics “We’ve been together, for some time now, through all kinds of weather, but we’re still dreamin’”, Roger says, “It’s a love song, it’s really about my wife. We’ve been together for quite some time, and I think when you really get to know someone, at first you really don’t see everything about them, but when you really get to know someone, it’s ‘oh, I see you now, that’s it.” To accompany the song, Roger’s wife Sarina Taylor and long-time collaborator Simon Lupton have created a beautifully elegant black-and-white video for the track, save for Roger’s striking ruby red hi-tops.

EASTBLOOD’S NEW ALBUM “BURN WHAT’S LEFT” Featuring members of JASTA, Dee Snider, Generation Kill, and more, Eastblood is a four-piece metal force built on speed, volume, and zero compromise. Fusing the ferocity of thrash metal with the raw aggression of punk and hardcore, the band delivers ripping riffs, brutal breakdowns, punishing drums, and nonstop shredding across Burn What’s Left. ‘Burn What’s Left’ is a record about anger, exhaustion, betrayal, and the emotional wreckage left behind by narcissism, manipulation, internet culture, and manufactured victimhood,” says Eastblood. “Beneath the aggression is something deeply human: self-doubt, grief, isolation, and the realization that sometimes the only way to move forward is to stop carrying what other people have done to you. We used that message with lyrics and the fastest, grittiest music we could—and this is just the beginning.” Rather than simply channeling aggression for aggression’s sake, Burn What’s Left turns frustration, resentment, and emotional fallout into a full-force sonic attack. The album confronts the darker side of modern culture while exploring the personal damage left in its wake and the catharsis that comes from finally letting it go. Recorded with a relentless intensity from start to finish, Burn What’s Left was mixed and mastered by Nick Bellmore, whose production expertise helps give the album its crushing weight and uncompromising edge. STRYPER NEW SINGLE “ASHES TO ROSES”

BITS & PIECES “We Hate” is the latest taste of Ministry’s final album Hate To Go (Take Out Or Delivery) coming October 30 on Cleopatra Records, following on the heels of first single, “Burned Out.”The album puts an end cap on an incredible 45-year career that has shaped a whole genre of music. But before bidding adieu, creator and music madman Al Jourgensen has a few final things to say about the state of the world, those in charge and how we should all collectively move forward on the final album. Notably, Hate To Go (Take Out Or Delivery) — Ministry’s 17th release — features one final collaboration with legacy member Paul Barker on the final album track “We’re Still Here,” alongside the handiwork of current Ministry bandmates, guitarists Monte Pittman and Cesar Soto, bassist Paul D’ Amour, sampler/synth player John Bechdel and drummer Pepe Clarke Magaña.

CABARET VOLTAIRE - CODE

Out of print for many years, CODE remains a fan favorite. The new remastered reissue will feature new in-depth sleeve notes, focused on the production and legacy of the album, and be available on limited edition “CODIFIED” marble vinyl and as a deluxe triple CD set featuring two bonus discs of remastered remixes from the time, plus unreleased remixes discovered in the archive. CODE captures the band at the height of their commercial and creative powers. The album became their most commercially successful with two singles — ‘Don’t Argue’ and ‘Here To Go’ - breaking the UK Official Singles Chart, and, explains Mal in the new sleeve notes. Ever prescient, CODE tapped into an increasingly uneasy relationship with technology, computers and programming that was creeping into all aspects of life, unpicking the codes of control to expose them — a preoccupation that would continue in Cabaret Voltaire’s work. Featuring guest musicians — the saxophonist Simeon Lister, bassist Mark Brydon (Chakk) and Bill Nelson (Be-Bop Deluxe), the album was recorded at The Cabs’ Western Works studio in Sheffield,

DAVID ALLAN COE’S “TEXAS MOON”

Sun Records released David Allan Coe’s Texas Moon (Deluxe), an expanded edition of one of the legendary outlaw artist’s earliest recordings. Originally recorded in 1973 for Shelby Singleton’s Plantation Records, the album captures a formative chapter in Coe’s career, showcasing his interpretations of songs by some of country music’s most influential songwriters while backed by his longtime road band. The collection finds Coe interpreting songs by many of his greatest influences, including Johnny Cash’s “Give My Love to Rose,” Kris Kristofferson’s “Why Me,” Billy Joe Shaver’s “Ride Me Down Easy” and “Fuzzy Was an Outlaw,” and Jackson Browne’s “These Days.”

SAM SMITH RELEASES HAZEL EYES

Songwriter Sam Smith released Hazel Eyes, an album that transforms a real-time love story into a visionary meditation on what it means to live with an unguarded heart. With Smith embracing the role of co-producer for the first time — and working with the same collaborators across a project for the first time — they’ve made their most emotionally direct and daring work yet, soundtracked by an exquisitely unpredictable mix of genres including baroque pop, British folk, outlaw country, and left-field R&B. A labor of love three years in the making, Hazel Eyes emerged as Smith navigated a time of monumental change, including falling in love and moving to New York City from their homeland of England. Following their 2023 album Gloria (featuring the global smash single “Unholy” with Kim Petras), Smith connected with co-producers Simon Aldred (Avicii, Liam Gallagher) and David Odlum (Glen Hansard, Josh Ritter) in search of an organic approach and sound rooted in their real-life story and the beauty of collaboration.

MINISTRY RELEASES “WE HATE”

DAVE STEWART-THE WAY IT WAS BACK THEN

Dave Stewart — the Rock & Roll Hall of Famer, Songwriter Hall of Famer, Eurythmics co-founder, producer, and acclaimed songwriter — has announced The Way It Was Back Then. Written, performed, and produced entirely by Stewart, the 10-song album will arrive on Friday, September 18, via Bay Street Records as a limited, physical-only release on CD and vinyl, just days after his birthday. Recorded at Stardust in the Bahamas, The Way It Was Back Then was written and produced entirely by Dave Stewart, and was built almost entirely from spontaneous, onetake performances. With no lyrics written down beforehand, Stewart sang, played guitar, and improvised melodies in real time — handling vocals, guitar, keyboard, and programming — while his longtime engineer and collaborator Jesse Samler played bass, drums, keyboard, and programming alongside him (Samler also handled the album’s layout). The two of them then built out the rest of each song together and mixed the record themselves. The result is an intimate, unfiltered album about memory, survival, love, loss, loyalty, and betrayal — and the strange feeling of still being here Photo by Ollie Alli after all of it.
