LOUIS COMFORT TIFFANY: ARTIST OF THE GILDED AGE

From July 25 through November 8th, the Nassau County Museum of Art presents Louis Comfort Tiffany: Artist of the Gilded Age, a landmark exhibition celebrating one of America’s most influential artists and designers. Featuring more than 130 oil and watercolor paintings from the Museum’s holdings, the exhibition offers an unprecedented examination of Tiffany’s achievements as a painter and demonstrates how his lifelong engagement with painting informed the innovations that would later make him internationally renowned in the decorative arts.

The exhibition marks the first time the full scope of the Museum’s Louis Comfort Tiffany painting collection will be presented together. Made possible through the Museum’s acquisition of the largest private collection of Tiffany paintings between 2013 and 2015—subsequently expanded through additional gifts and acquisitions—the exhibition positions painting at the center of Tiffany’s artistic vision. Complementing the paintings are loans of stained-glass windows, lamps, furniture, decorative arts, and works by Tiffany’s contemporaries, providing important context for the artistic movements that shaped his career, including Art Nouveau and the American Aesthetic Movement. Together, these works illuminate the shared artistic principles that united Tiffany’s diverse creative pursuits and

SPORTS BEAT

The Knicks ended their 53-year NBA title drought thanks to, not surprisingly, the heroics of Jalen Brunson, who poured in 45 points in Game 5 to win the series against the San Antonio Spurs.

The 2026 NBA Finals will always be remembered for the Knicks rallying from 29 points down to win Game 4. Give the Knicks credit for resilience, but Charles Barkley was correct in calling the Spurs “the dumbest team in the history of western civilization.” The Spurs had zero idea about clock management strategy; committed dumb fouls; and hoisted needless low percentage threepointers with a big lead.

It was not that long ago when a team blew a 20-point or more big lead at any point in a basketball game, it was big news. It is all too common in the NBA these days. That reflects poorly on the product.

The Mets “unretired” David Wright’s #5 uniform for Knicks guard Jose Alvarado who threw out a ceremonial first pitch at Citi Field before the NBA Finals got

underway. Alvarado’s Knicks uniform number is 5, and the Mets were happy to accommodate him.

I jokingly told him to put in a good word for me to the Knicks PR director because they treat their media credentials as if they are the gold in Fort Knox. “That’s above my paygrade!” Alvarado chuckled.

Pepsi wisely took advantage of Knicks fever by having ticket giveaway promotions, and by putting diehard Knicks fans’ faces on Times Square billboards.

The Mets recently inducted Lee Mazzilli and Bobby Valentine into their Hall of Fame. Both were members of the Mets during one of the bleakest periods in the team’s history–the late 1970s. “We did not draw many fans, but I do remember there were a lot of teenage girls who wanted to see Maz!” Valentine said with a smile.“It was a dark time in New York. Trains were filled with graffiti; crime was skyrocketing; we had that blackout; and of course, there was Son of Sam,” Mazzilli recalled.

The Tribeca Film Festival, which marked its 25th anniversary this past June, needs to beef up its sports documentaries. That used to be a strength, but the only one which debuted this year was “Born Melo” about the

THEATER: OFF-BROADWAY GEMS

Not to be missed: You have only until August 16 to catch the Tony, Drama Desk, and Outer Critic Circle Award-winning revival of “Ragtime.” One of America’s greatest musicals, it is a deeply felt examination of both the promise and the failure of the American Dream as reflected through the lives of Black Americans, immigrants and affluent white families. Director Lear deBessonet’s spectacular production explodes with passion, humanity and soaring musical power. Award winners Joshua Henry and Caissie Levy, as well as Brandon Uranowitz are giving performances of a lifetime. (Vivian Beaumont Theatre at Lincoln Center). lct.org/shows/ragtime

Off-Broadway is teeming with exciting new musicals and plays. Whoopi Goldberg’s trailblazing 1984 one-woman show, “The Whoopi Monologues” returns to New York for a new generation. Because no single performer can embody the unforgettable characters Goldberg created, five acclaimed actresses – Kerry Washington, Dominique Fishback, Pinnock and Tonywinners Kara Young and Kecia Lewis, bring her indelible character studies to life under the direction of Whitney White. (Mitzi Newhouse Theatre at Lincoln Center) lct.org/shows/the-whoopi-monologues/

Inspired by the 1999 film, “A Walk on the Moon” is a new musical with book and additional lyrics by the original screenwriter Pamela Gray, and music and lyrics by AnnMarie Milazzo. Set during the summer of 1969, the story traces the awakening of a young Brooklyn mother and housewife who, while vacationing at a Catskills bungalow colony, finds herself swept into the cultural revolution surrounding the Woodstock music festival. The cast features Talia Suskauer, Max Chernin, Sam Gravitte, Andrea Burns, and Sophie Pollono under the direction of Sheryl Kaller. (Laura Pels Theater) awalkonthemoonmusical.com/

Fascinated by the little that is known of the true story of 17th Century Palermo serial murderess Giulia Tofana, Grammy and Emmy-winner

Jennifer Nettles (Sugarland’s lead singer) has written the book, music and lyrics for “Giulia: The Poison Queen of Palermo,” in which she also stars. Allegedly driven to poison her abusive husband, Tofana is said to have supplied other women with her arsenic to murder their own abusive husbands, creating a secret sisterhood of survivors. The world premiere cast includes Quentin Earl Darrington, Emily Fink, Bre Jackson, among others under the direction of Tony-winner Mary Zimmerman. (Perelman Arts Center) pacnyc.org/whats-on/giulia/

In playwright Erica Murray’s “The Loved Ones,” four women unexpectedly find themselves sharing the same remote Irish Airbnb farmhouse. As secrets are revealed, the strangers discover they have more in common than simply their relationships with the owner’s late son. Maryann Plunkett stars as the farmhouse’s owner, Claire O’Malley plays the son’s grieving widow, Alana Raquel Bowers is the son’s pregnant girlfriend and Donna Lynne Champlin plays an American tourist. Directed by Nicola Murphy Dubey, the new Irish play explores motherhood, grief and the “families we find when life doesn’t go to plan.” Through August 2. (Irish Repertory Theatre) irishrep.org

Free Shakespeare in the Park concludes this season with “The Winter’s Tale,” Shakespeare’s tragicomedy of irrational jealousy, forgiveness, redemption and the enduring power of love. Taylor Rooks was interviewed by her NBC Entertainment counterpart, Zuri Hall, as part of the TFF’s Tribeca X pop culture discussion series.

Eli Manning has gotten a lot of mileage from his “Chad Powers” alter ego. He donned a disguise and a fake accent to create a fictional quarterback who tried to join the Penn State football team during a summer open tryout as part of Disney Plus’s “Eli’s Places.”

Actor Glen Powell took on the Chad Powers character for a Hulu series of the same name. It will be getting a second season on Hulu.

Manning is now expanding the concept to Prime Video with an “Eli Manning Presents the Undercovers” series. NASCAR driver Ryan Blaney is donning the prosthetics and adopting a British accent to fool both racing fans and even those in the industry in the first “Undercovers” for Prime Video.

Swedish Formula 1 driver Felix Rosenqvist won the largest prize money in motor sports history when his car crossed the line first at this year’s Indy 500. Rosenqvist received a check for $4.34 million. This was the second year in which FOX Sports had the broadcast rights for America’s most famous race.

The FIFA World Cup has been a ratings bonanza for both FOX Sports, which has the English-speaking telecast rights in the US, and for Telemundo, which has the Spanish language rights. Over 16 million people tuned in to watch the opening FIFA World Cup match between Paraguay and the USA on FOX, while

nearly 9 million watched it on Telemundo/Peacock.

While Major League Soccer shut down for the World Cup, the lesser-known professional league, the United Soccer League kept playing. One of the teams in the USL, Brooklyn FC, plays their games in Maimonides Park, the home of the Mets’ High-A farm club, the Brooklyn Cyclones. Last month, Brooklyn FC gave out a bobblehead of Tim Weah, who is a member of the US National Men’s Team playing in the World Cup. Weah was born in Brooklyn and has an equity stake in Brooklyn FC.

“Saturday Night Live” cast member Marcello Hernandez will be hosting the 2026 ESPYs which will be televised on ABC on July 15. This marks the return of the ESPYs to New York in over 25 years. There is a tie-in between the ESPYs and Fanatics Fest which will take place at Javits Center from July 16-19.

Nassau County Executive, and New York State Republican gubernatorial candidate, Bruce Blakeman attended the hockey contest between the Jerusalem Capitals and the Tel Aviv Hockey Club which was held at UBS Arena in midMay. It was part of a Jewish Heritage Month celebration.

NIGHT RANGER UNVEIL REMASTERED SINGLE

Few bands have defined the sound of American melodic rock quite like NIGHT RANGER. From the soaring anthem of “Sister Christian” to the thunderous riffs of “Don’t Tell Me You Love Me,” and fan favorites like (“You Can Still) Rock in America” this album’s ‘Best Of’ collection captures the very essence of their decades-long career — now refreshed for 2026.

Featuring the classic hits alongside standout tracks from their more recent albums, this compilation spans the full spectrum of NIGHT RANGER’s signature sound: anthemic choruses, blazing guitar solos, and unforgettable melodies. Highlights include the powerpop perfection of “(You Can Still) Rock in America,” the heartfelt balladry of “When You Close Your Eyes,” and the cinematic sweep of “Four in the Morning.”

But the ‘Best Of’ is not just a look back. It also celebrates the band’s creative output over the last 20 years, spotlighting tracks like “Time of Our Lives,” “High Road,” “No Time to Lose,” “Somehow Someway,” and “Truth.”

The band — Jack Blades (bass and vocals), Kelly Keagy (drums and vocals), Brad Gillis (guitars), Eric Levy (keyboards), and Keri Kelli (guitars) — delivers every track with the energy and precision that have kept NIGHT RANGER at the forefront of rock for more than four decades.

CARLY RAE JEPSEN 24-TRACK DOUBLE ALBUM

On September 18, multi-platinum, GRAMMY® Award-nominated pop singer/songwriter Carly Rae Jepsen will release Day and Night via Interscope Records. Day and Night is her most cohesive artistic statement to date – a 24-track double album with 12 songs for day and 12 songs for night.

“On Wires,” the album’s first single, Jepsen will launch Day and Night with a headline performance at NYC’s All Things Go Festival on Sunday, September 27 –her first live performance of 2026. Day and Night captures a blurred, dreamlike sense of time where nights stretch into mornings and days dissolve into nights, creating a feeling of being suspended inside a moment. Working with her dream team of collaborators and friends, including Tavish Crowe, Kyle Shearer, Nate Cyphert and Cole M.G.N., Jepsen created two distinct sonic palettes for the album. Day is organic and raw, with live instrumentation and hints of 70s-inspired psychedelic pop. Night is exploratory and intense, shifting into a sleek, synth-driven world of dance pop. Together, they dive into a full range of emotion – joy, fear, love, anxiety, escapist fantasy and everything in between.

THE ROLLING STONES “JEALOUS LOVER”

The Rolling Stones announced their new single “Jealous Lover,” was released June 26th. The track is the latest to be unveiled from their forthcoming studio album Foreign Tongues, released on July 10th via Capitol Records.

As anticipation for the album continues to build, “Jealous Lover” offers another compelling example of the band’s remarkable ability to move effortlessly between musical styles. Following the upbeat pop-rock energy of previous single “In The Stars,” the new track embraces a soulful R&B groove, anchored by a captivating falsetto lead vocal from Mick Jagger.

Drawing on the band’s lifelong connection with rhythm and blues,“Jealous Lover” combines infectious melodies, rich musicianship, and sharp lyrical observations. Jagger delivers a pointed warning to an over-inquisitive lover, bringing humour, attitude, and vivid imagery to the song’s narrative.

The track is powered by expressive guitar work from Keith Richards and RonWood, whose subtle interplay drives the song’s melodic character. The rhythm section of Darryl Jones on bass and Steve Jordan on drums and percussion provides a deep and assured groove, while longtime friend and collaborator Steve Winwood adds distinctive Rhodes and organ textures. Additional instrumentation from producer Andrew Watt and keyboardist Matt Clifford further enhances the song’s warm, soulful sound.
