Also referred s by some, normally when his look is timeless and alhing about this style is that need long hair. Granted you grip to make the braid, but ng and most times does not e. Here are a few ideas to ortion of the hair is braided er it is an easy way to have ut being bothered with the art down the middle with a each side is simple and also d. When you want to dress product for hold and shine.

T here are also accessories that can be worn to fit the occasion i.e. crystal clips. Hair accessories can

be a nice touch to any style. I have seen bobby pins with different charms attached to them like crystals, little butterflies and so many other simple and sweet things. A way these can be worn is either assisting in pinning the hair up or actually placing the pins within the braid so only the end is shown. The end, meaning where the crystal or whatever item happens to accentuate the pin. Regardless it have been proven that the loose braid can fit any occasion. Not sure what fits you best just try something new. What is the worst that can happen? It is not permanent. So if you have not tried this look yet, do it. You may be surprised with the results. From the Runway Going Your Way by SheMarie Even the person without sight can see that fashion is everywhere. The simple, the flamboyant, the collaborative designs have a way of bringing us in. Whether it is the bright colors, layers, textures and fit, there is something that stands out to us. Soft, warm, rough, stiff, all have a way of attaching a vibe to what the mood of the day is. To feel a garment light and silky that blows with the breeze hanging off the shoulder is refreshing. Maybe perhaps a warming material like tweed that is lined smooth to the touch providing comfort and warmth makes you feel cuddled. I know for myself that I have a combination of likes in fashion. Some days I want to be casual and others I want to look like I’m the boss. The happy medium would be what is going on right now in fashion. Pieces that would normally be worn to complete a suit are being combined with more casual designs, and making a statement. For example, a blazer with tailored shorts and a floral shirt. Bright colors and bold patterns are claiming their spot in Spring Fashion. You 62

may have noticed many patterns while out at the shopping centers, you will definitely see it in the latest issues of magazines... embrace them. Remember not all patterns are meant for all people. What you want to do is try items on to see how they enhance your curves and even how they may distract from your problem areas. When fashion is successful it makes you look your best. Just because an item is available in your size does not mean that it was meant for you. One place in particular has items that accommodate what is on the runway. This place is Forever 21. Many store locations have expanded, and have become a one stop spot. From head to toe this place can help you achieve this season’s look. Not sure where to begin? Get a picture of the look you are going for and ask a store representative to assist you in choosing the best items to complete the look. Have fun, and remember just because it looks good on the mannequin does not mean it will be the same on you. Get in the fitting room, and get a good fit! Jan/Feb 2012 • www.theGOODSmag.co

By Donna Wilkins “What’s love got to do, got to do with it?” The iconic singer, Tina Turner, asked this question back in 1984 in the song by the same name. And it is still being asked to date. She goes on to sing, “Who needs a heart when a heart can be broken.” While we all want love, when it doesn’t work it can hurt. So, what is love? Wikipedia defines love as an emotion of strong affection and personal attachment. If we are lucky, we will find true love maybe once in our life time. Now that Christmas and New Year’s Eve are a distant memory, according to greeting cards and jewelry stores, the ultimate day of “Love” is……….. Valentine’s Day. The on- slaught of billboards, t.v. commercials, and magazines, will focus on happy couples, rings, wedding dresses and vacation get aways. Hollywood even released the movie, Valentine’s Day in May, 2010. They covered each aspect of love: single who met the love of their life, the happy married couple, and the happy dating couple, single with no one in their life, the distraught dating couple, and the frazzled married couple. And so it goes. Much is made of this day which celebrates love and affection between intimate companions. This holiday has been around since, well, forever. For some it is a happy, joyful occasion. For others it is not a cause for celebration and they can’t wait for February 15. 68

www.theGOODSmag.co • Jan/Feb 2012

Is the ultimate prize after finding love, marriage? Statistically, in 1960, 65.9% of Americans were married as compared to 2011 and 50.6% of Americans are married. So does that mean that 49.4% are happy to just be in love? In April the world watched as Prince William married Catherine Middleton. In August, Kim Kardashian had a wedding fit for a princess, but then filed for divorce from her “prince” after 72 days of marriage. Both couples found love, but in the end what they did with it was completely different. So we have the Wikepedia definition of love, but what does love mean to the mere mortal? I asked several women, in various stages of relationships what love means to them.

Love is security, stability, and stamina. – Stacy Love is the choice to do the work required to keep the relationship strong after you’ve realized your partner isn’t perfect. – Kim “Love is exhilarating in its truest form but above all love is an unwavering commitment through the great, the good, the bad and the ugly times until death do you part.” - Athena Romance does not have to be a grand gesture.. It can be checking air in tires or a surprise take out dinner when you know it’s a hectic day.. A note. Of how much u appreciate something your mate did and baby I’ll show us later how much lol – Judy Love is being happiest when you can bring happiness to the one you love with your own selfless gestures. – Sheila Love is a decision. – Kathy Love can sometimes baffle the mind that you can’t really put it in words. - Annette To me love means...putting up with each other. - Nicki So to answer Tina’s question, What’s love got to do with it?.... …..Everything! Ever wonder why gold jewelry looks good on you, and silver doesn’t? Or why you look great in peach toned lipstick and pink looks weird? Or that you can wear a beige sweater but white makes you look washed out? This is because you are probably a warm skin tone. Skin tones come in four types: Winter, Summer, Autumn and Spring. If you look best in peaches rather than pinks, guaranteed you are an autumn or spring. If you can’t tell you can do this quick test: Hold up a piece of silver cloth next to your face. Then gold. Which one makes your face come alive, and which one washes you out? Gold is the warm tones, silver, the cool. You can also look at the underside of your arm. If the veins appear blue, you have a cool skin tone. If they look greenish, you are a warm tone. People with golden blonde, golden brown, red brown, red, and strawberry blonde hair shades are the warm category. Lindsay Lohan and Jessica Alba are good examples. 84

should wear autumn or spring colors. Autumn colors are muted whereas spring colors are vibrant. Autumn colors include: gold, camel, all oranges, rust, salmon, tomato red, mustard, lime green, olive green, forest green, turquoise, teal blue, and dark periwinkle blue. Avoid blue-reds, silver or black or white around the face. Spring colors include: beige, peach, light oranges, apricot, coral, light rust, clear orange red, gold, bright golden yellow, emerald green, bright periwinkle blue and navy. Avoid blue reds, silver or black or white around the face. For another hint- most make-up shades for warm tones have colors named: beige, golden beige, peach and ivory. Prescriptives Beauty Products who have build their whole make-up line on this system. Wear the colors that look best on you so that you appear vibrant instead of washed out. It can make all the difference.

Cool Skin Tones Ever wonder why orange lip colors look yucky on you? Or why wearing browns, or peaches make you look washed out? That is because you are a cool skin tone. For fabulous beauty and hair, it’s best to know which skin tone is you. If you like pinks instead of peaches, burgundy and wine colors instead of firehouse reds, and white instead of beige it’s a good chance you are either a summer or winter skin tone coloring. Winters and summers look great in black, white and hot pinks. Silver jewelry compliments you rather than gold. Winter skin tone colors are cool, clear and vibrant. Summer skin tones are cool and muted or more pastel. People with platinum blonde, ash blonde, mousy brown and dark brown color hair, fall into the winter or summer color range.

Winter Hair Col Most of us have made transitions from Summer hair color to Winter hair color. Now the decision to go dark or light has been a debate. The bleached blonde shades have gone to a more golden tone, the heavily highlighted shades have been toned down with low lights. It seems like the trends are observed and imitated. I am normally not one to follow the trends, and I go with what I am in the mood for. With this being said this is all determined by personal preference. What is your shade? Do you plan on changing it? This Winter season I have seen a little bit of everything. Many are wearing shades of auburn and mocha brown, while some are wearing highlights. The routine has been later in the year to go a bit darker than summer

shades, but rich with a glow of bronze to pop in the color. A lot of times when people think about going a darker shade, they think boring. Not the case. When you have a licensed professional especially one whom specializes in hair color you can achieve a look that has dimension. Do not get me wrong sometimes with a licensed professional there are still chances it may not come out as planned.

What I mean by dimensions is when you can see a tone within the color i.e. red, gold. Honestly I have seen many different looks this season. A way to decide on a color is trying wigs. Even if it is just to see how the shade fits your complexion that is an option. There really aren’t rules on how to

choose the right hair color, but here are some things you may want to keep in mind. You want the color to compliment your complexion, making sure you are not washed out by it. You can put a sample of the color up next to your face to see if it looks too harsh to your skin or if it looks just right. If you are not willing to commit to hair color you can try semi, demi permanent or even a cellophane tint. It is easier to reverse a color when a permanent product is not used. Permanent colors are more harsh on the hair, and require more effort in color touchups and repair. Try something new, but do not damage your hair in the process. Jan/Feb 2012 • www.theGOODSmag.co

On Your Radar review The Saturdays – “Dance...its all I wanna dance so won’t you dance” sung by the legendary Kylie Minogue invaded my mind upon listening to On Your Radar. Its the first idea present on the third album from British Electropop girl band The Saturdays. This idea of dance music is prevalent throughout the entire LP. They’ve always danced with Dance music but never fully explored it. Since their debut in 2008, The Saturdays have been compared to the likes of Girls Aloud and other British Girl Bands before them. Which is something very inescapable in the music industry. What is very intriguing about this particular girl group is that they have very impressive vocals as a whole. Particularly in Pop Music, there is usually a main vocalist and backup singers. And even more common with Pop Girl Bands is the fact that their vocal talent is very mediocre and they image becomes their gimmick. However, The Saturdays have undeniable vocal ability and technique that is usually seen with R&B Girl Groups. With that being said, placing such vocal ability with great electronic production sets them apart from the norm. Thus far, the ladies have been pretty successful finding their way in a Post-Girls Aloud/Sugababes 4.0 world. And it seems the new album continues that tradition. The girls bring that same sassy, fun and vulnerable quality to On Your Radar. It seems the girls have taken a cue for Calvin Harris and are more than ready for the weekend. The first track “All Fired Up” co-produced by Space Cowboy (Lady Gaga) and Xenomania (Girls Aloud, Sugababes) takes it to the Club with a powerhouse synth, throbbing drum loop and anthemic rave melody. Its accompanied by some great shout outs to Britney Spears ( On Your Radar...), Lady Gaga (Get Your Claws Out!) and Ke$ha (We’re all animals!). The next track “Notorious” revisits some familiar structure to their hit song “Up.” But this time the ladies are boasting about taking over the dance-floor. Afterward we’re treated to the gorgeous danceballad “Faster” which has the girls cooing about their lovers. The pace of the song seems to take the song into such a euphoric state as they sing “Faster, Faster, Faster” repeatedly. This song transitions well into the Wintery mid-tempo “My Heart Takes Over.” The girls find themselves on familiar territory singing about relationship woes and love-on-the-rocks. Vanessa’s powerful vocals takes

center-stage and soars to new heights. The Saturdays return to the dance-floor with the sex-kitten musings of the Xenomania composed “Get Ready Get Set” and the super cool guitar-laden “The Way You Watch Me.” The girls contemplate their rocky relationships on the urban production of “For Myself.” The song plays both sides with a heavy urban drum loop and then glides into Techno-ish thumping. Soon the album takes an odd turn with “Do With You Want With Me.” The song is a grower for sure turning from gigantic slow drums into a trippy drum-n-bass affair. This song takes away from the ease the album had built up. But it does give the album variety in some respect even though its not needed. The dance-floor seems to be calling their names as they take it back to the earlier sounds of Dance-pop on “Promise Me” though the song is plagued with a very dreadful Dubstep breakdown. Unfortunately this song suffers from over-commercialism and sends the album in a very generic direction. Thankfully, vocals save the day on the Pop/Rock outcry of “Wish I Didn’t Know.” It seems the albums tries to balance the Dance-Pop with the traditional pop. Ending with the sonic-pulse of “White Lies” and the teary-eyed piano-driven acoustic of “Last Call.” The Saturdays did well balancing the thin line of supersaturation of Dance tracks and classic pop tunes. The girls sound amazing as usual. Well developed vocal arrangements, harmonies and vocal texture. Contrary to usual dance mainstays, there was little usage of auto-tune which seems still plague popular music as of late. The album never looses it footing for long even with the few stumbles that come along the way. The girls recover well and find themselves pushing harder to right the wrongs of the album. The album starts like a great Friday night, stays on your radar all Saturday and finishes on Sunday with a deep reflection of all the lessons learned over the weekend. What’s clear is that these ladies have plenty of Saturdays ahead of them.

Drake’s second stu-

dio album Take Care, is an 18 track manifesto armed with a roller coaster of themes and emotions which transports listeners to the champagne popping, model chasing, lothario lifestyle that Drake creates. Drake straps listeners in to the driver seat of his witty firstperson perspective while taking pit stops at more personable themes like relationships and the roles that media and success play in his often laborious love life. Take Care is a Hip-Hop and R&B album drenched with enough lyrics and emotions to fill a romance novel. Toronto’s own flashes his romantic side while sticking true to his rap roots making spending money and courting women seem as involuntary as breathing. This Canadian born MC makes it apparent that even though he has fame and affluence, he is flawed like any person and is impacted and influenced by the day-to-day ups and downs of relationships and matters of the heart. From opening track to final track, Drake proves to be as well rounded on this album as on any of his previous works, mixing R&B fashioned tracks with more upbeat urban themes featuring an assortment of talented artists including Andre 3000, Rick Ross, Lil Wayne, Stevie Wonder, The Weekend, Nicki Minaj and Rihanna. In true Drizzy Drake fashion this MC, self-dubbed the ‘Knight in Shining Armoral Tires’ is able to show his versatility by throwing in a few club bangers only to pop the clutch and switch gears into his famous yet flawed romantic side, and then one track later transforms right back into the lyrically cocky panty chasing hip-hop lothario, taking spoken for women and breaking hearts along the way with tracks like We’ll be fine, Headlines, Cameras, Lord Know and Underground Kings. Drake proves to be the consummate relationship maker and breaker with tracks like Good Ones Go, Shot For Me, Marvin’s Room and Doing it Wrong. Love or the necessity of a heroine is a common topic that Drake consistently confronts throughout Take Care. Drake gives brief insight into his capricious perspective on 94

dating which he sums up in his track Underground Kings stating “Sometimes I need that romance, sometimes I need that pole dance, sometimes I need that stripper thats gon’ tell me that she don’t dance” Drakes indecisiveness is something of legend on this album which in turn makes it easy for listeners at different stages in life and love to connect with. Take Care isn’t only about Drake’s loveless side, which lightly echoes the woes of Kanye’s 808’s and Heartbreak, the 25 year-old playboy, showcases his romantic side and created several tracks on this album that will please fanatics of R&B and classic love songs from an era in hip-hop that most rap MC’s leave untouched. Several of the tracks on this album are devoted to the ‘lovers’ out there. Drake isn’t afraid to endear himself to fans with tracks like The Real Her, exploring his hopeless romantic side which he embeds in the chorus “you got the shit that someone will look for but wont find…” with features from Andre 3000 and Lil Wayne this track strikes a chord with romantics in all different stages of courtship or relationships. Doing it Wrong is a ballad dedicated to the listeners stuck in relationship ruts whom are looking forward to a necessary start with someone else. This break-up anthem which is similar to Musiq Soulchild’s Half Crazy, in the ‘relationships over, where do we go from here department’ with Drake repeating over and over in the chorus that he needs someone different while breaking down just how over the relationship is. With help from Stevie Wonder on the harmonica, Doing it Wrong is certainly a track to help ease that heartbreak. Overall the lyrics mixed with the production quality make this album something that Drake’s audiences can certainly vibe to, dance to, drive to, relate to, or cry to. Loaded with several anthems for a variety of settings and emotions, Take Care is an acceptable sequel to Thank Me Later, Drake’s first studio success. Drake’s maturity as a person and an MC are both apparent on this album with his eclectic blend of themes that he creates. This 18 track digital success is an album that can be played straight through without skipping a track while the occasionally hitting the repeat button. Jan/Feb 2012 • www.theGOODSmag.co

The crowds on these evenings reach gargantuan proportions that keep legions of loyal SPACE fans returning every summer to be a part of the SPACE experience. Even the world’s best club has its flaws, reported long lines and wait times, which like any club are an inherent price of its overwhelming popularity. According to spaceibiza.com, SPACE will be taking the party to “Japan, France, Korea, China, Thailand, South Africa, Germany, Belgium, Brazil, UAE, Italy, Australia and many more” with pit stops in the United States in Chicago and New York. With popularity across the globe and a historic following in Spain, SPACE is the insurmountable measuring stick that other nightclubs must try and live up to. The legendary magnetism of this Super Club coupled with its embarrassment of riches in the entertainment department boasting an unmatched list of musical talent, SPACE will continue to leave tourists and locals spoiled and coming back for more. The colossal following that has accumulated since its first year in 1989 mixed with the unrelenting and infectious energy that SPACE creates, is sure to keep its seatas front runner in what has become a one legged race as world’s best nightclub attraction. How to meet a

Millionaire

By Kimberly Kimmel

Where do the millionaires hang out? And, could you possibly be lucky enough

to meet one? Regular women get asked out everyday by celebrities and those with the big bucks. Here are a few tips to help you be at the right place, at the right time. First, get gorgeous. If you want to meet a man with a million bucks, you’ll have to look like a million bucks. Upgrade your clothes, hair and style. Wear outfits that are flattering, have perfect make-up and hair that looks great for your facial shape. Have the right attitude. Act “as if.” You aren’t broke looking for money, your attitude should say you already have money and don’t really care. No more shopping at Wal-Mart. Frequent Bristol Farms and Macy’s. Hang out where they hang out. If you want a rocker, get a job at the House of Blues, or a record label. If you want to meet a celebrity, work for ICM or a celeb hangout as a hostess. The best place to meet a famous baseball player is at the ballpark. Country clubs and charity functions are a great place to meet the wealthy. If you are a realtor, show the expensive listings or work as a concierge at a five-star hotel. Get hired at Mr. Show, or Moonshadows Malibu. Be open to new possibilities. You never know. If you are at the right place at the right time, you might strike it rich and find real gold- love.
