This Scripture has played in my mind for weeks, as I’ve recently struggled with my own personal tragedy. In early July, I had an ectopic pregnancy, and I was forced to rely on Scripture and my faith in God for comfort. My husband and I found out we were expecting our first child. We were shocked and excited, and in the short few days that we had this news, we talked about names, nursery colors, and how we would tell our families. I was alone when I got the initial news that the baby was in my tube. Due to Covid-19, my husband wasn’t allowed to be in the room with me. I sat in the room waiting for another doctor to come in when I was reminded of Hebrews 13:5. We are never truly alone, and we are never forsaken. My heart was crushed, but I spoke out loud, “God, no matter what, you are still a good God.” The entire experience is still a whirlwind to think about.

One of my most favorite Scriptures is Jeremiah 29:11. “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘Plans to prosper you, and not to harm you, plans to give

He died for it and refuses to forsake it. Despite its ugliness and worldliness, Jesus loves the church. Follow Jesus back to church! How? While it’s true that there is a universal church that is much easier to be a part of, we can’t deny that there is a local church that we must connect with. We aren’t just called to be saved. We are called to make disciples: to be a part of a missional movement that we see organizing, localizing, and congregationalizing

Obedience to God is heavy, but it is also freeing. This word in Hebrew is “shama,” and it carries with it the meaning of hearing and obeying. Most of the time, Hebrew words have numerous meanings, but not obedience. God used it the same way all throughout Scripture. He meant for it to carry the meaning of listening to His voice and acting on what He said. When God calls you out of your comfort zone into the deep, it takes faith. “God has allotted to each a measure of faith” (Romans 12:3b). Mistaken Identity istaken identity. It’s what your enemy keeps trying his best to hit you with. He wants you to believe you are your experiences, heartaches, and even your sins. Satan desires that you would be so lost in your pain, addictions, and insecurities that you never know who or who’s you are. The enemy wants your walk with God to be filled with shame and condemnation over the things that you have done. God, however, does not. My great grandmother is alive but isn’t always here, she has Alzheimer’s. Lots of moments have occurred where she did not recognize me and one scary time where she didn’t know who she was. 1 Peter 2:9, “But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people of God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who has called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.” This scripture gives us a crumb of who God says we are you need to know more. It is vital for your Christian walk that you realize that God never forgets who you are and he will never forget who he is. You do, however, have an enemy who wants you to believe that because he is invisible he is also

fictional but that’s not true. He is real. And what you need in your life is the armor that can shut him down! What is your current battle? Do you feel hopeless? Most of the time the conduit of hopelessness is insecurity. Ephesians 6:10-18 tells us that we have the power to defeat insecurity. He has given you: A belt to fortify you, a breastplate to protect you, the Gospel shoes to stabilize you, a helmet to guard you, a sword to fight for you, and something we tend to miss, prayer to connect you to Him. Psalm 139:14 says, “I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are they works; and that my soul knows right well.” When insecure, we are saying somehow God made a mistake. God can turn your grave into a garden. Resist Satan and he will flee. Numbers 23:19-20, “God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? Or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?” His word is true. Stand and claim it!

Gò0dNews Business Spotlight Mary Weaver: An Experienced Realtor Who Cares

M

ary Weaver (James) began her career in real estate on February 12, 1986. She had just become a new grandmother with her first grandson, T.J. Griffin. A friend of hers in Ellijay wanted to become a realtor and signed up to take the class in Jasper, but there was a problem: they needed one more person to sign up to have enough people for the class, so Mary was asked to take the class just so her friend could take it. Mary had not even thought about selling real estate at that time, but she took the class, passed it, and then went on to take the state test and passed it as well. Her friend never passed the state test and never got into real estate. Mary has been selling real estate now for 34 years. I guess it was meant to be. At that time, she was married to Glenn James and lived at the foot of Fort Mountain on the Gilmer County side of the mountain. She started working at Jackson & Crider Realty in Chatsworth, driving across the top of the mountain every day for three years until she and Glenn moved to Chatsworth. Jackson & Crider were developing East Plantation Acres and Plantation Acres at that time, and Glenn began building houses in East Plantation, ending up buying the remaining lots there and building houses on them. The houses were selling as fast as he built them. Glenn built, and Mary sold. Life was good until Glenn was diagnosed with cancer and died 11 months later on May 15, 1996. Mary started building houses with her son Woody, and they formed WS Builders and finished building houses in East Plantation, paying off the loans on the lots. She worked for Jackson & Crider for 14 years, learning while she worked. In 1997, Mary bought a lot off Tibbs Bridge Road and contracted out to build her own house. A friend of hers, Phillip Dunn, worked with her son Woody to build the home in what is now River Terrace. It was at that time that Mary met Doug Weaver. She hired him to put insulation in her home and talked with him several times during the job. Three months later, Doug called and asked her to go

32 // October 2020

to dinner with him. They were married on March 10, 2000. In 1999, Mary bought a tract of land on the corner of 3rd Avenue and Locust Street in Chatsworth, where she built an office building that would become her real estate office: Action Realty, Inc. They were very successful, and Century 21 Belk Realtors approached Mary and asked her if she would consider joining their firm and having a Century 21 office in Chatsworth. After much thought, Mary agreed and became an associate broker for Century 21 Belk Realtors. Mary has received the Community Service Award, President’s Award, Agent of the Year Award, Realtor of the Year Award, and Past President of the Year Award. She was chosen Business Woman of the Year by her local chamber of commerce. Over the years, Mary has developed subdivisions and has written covenants for several subdivisions in Murray County. Mary is celebrating 34 years serving Murray and Whitfield Counties and surrounding Northwest Georgia county residents with their real estate needs. Mary is happy with her life being a Christian, wife, mother, stepmom, grandmother of eight, and great-grandmother of three. Whether you are buying a home, selling a home or land, or just want to know more about real estate in this area, Mary Weaver is ready to serve you and assist you with any and all of your real estate transactions. Mary can be reached at 706-260-0344, or you can find her at Real Living Elite, 1475 US Hwy 76, Suite 3, across from CVS Pharmacy in Chatsworth.

Homemade Bread by Bekah Prytherch

I

was baking homemade bread tonight and as I started kneading the dough I began thinking about how I still had to let it rise for an hour before I could even bake it... (this is how impatient I am) and that’s why I never make homemade bread, it’s so much easier to just buy it at the store and be done! As I was almost done, a verse came to mind in the Bible. John 6:35, “Then Jesus declared, ‘I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.“ This verse made me think how sometimes in life I/we want the fast bread of life... Quick prayers, fast Bible study, not setting aside the time I should with Him! Instead of taking the hardy, warm yummier bread... praying with out ceasing, studying his word, worshiping him in all we do, being the his hands and feet, feasting on him everyday! We want quick, when he is there offering us to have a feast...all of Him! His word says he is our bead of life and that we will never go hungry, we have the choice everyday, hour, minutes to always feast on his word yet we settle for a fast snack.

Ingredients • Warm water: (105-115 degrees)- to activate the yeast. • Active Dry yeast: Instant or rapid rise yeast can be substituted. • Granulated sugar or honey: the sugar is used to “feed” the yeast and tenderize the bread. • Salt: to enhance flavor • Oil: Vegetable or canola oil, or melted butter could be substituted • Flour: Bread Flour or All-Purpose Flour can both be used with no changes to the recipe. The exact amount of flour used will vary depending on different factors (altitude/ humidity etc.). What matters is the texture of the dough. It should be smooth and pull away from the sides of the bowl. It’s important not to add too much flour or your bread will be dense. The dough should be just slightly sticky when touched with a clean finger.

Instructions

1. Proof the yeast: In a large bowl or stand mixer add the yeast, water and a pinch of the sugar or honey. Allow to rest for 5-10 minutes until foaming and bubbly. (This is called “proofing” the yeast, to make sure it is active. If it doesn’t foam, the yeast is no good, and you need to start over with fresh yeast). 2. Prepare the dough: Add remaining sugar or honey, salt, oil, and 3 cups of flour. Mix to combine. Add another cup of flour and mix to combine. With the mixer running add more flour, ½ cup at a time, until the dough begins to pull away from the sides of the bowl. 3. Knead the dough: Mix the dough for 5 minutes on medium speed (or knead with your hands on a lightly floured surface, for 5-8 minutes). The dough should be smooth and elastic, and slightly stick to a clean finger, but not be overly sticky. 4. First Rise: Grease a large bowl with oil or cooking spray and place the dough inside. Cover with a dish towel or plastic wrap and allow to rise in a warm place* until doubled in size (about 1 1/2 hours). 5. Punch the dough down really well to remove air bubbles. 6. Divide into two equal portions. Shape each ball into long logs and place into greased loaf pans. 7. Second rise: Spray two pieces of plastic wrap with cooking spray and lay them gently over the pans. Allow dough to rise again for about 45 minutes to one hour, or until risen 1 inch above the loaf pans. 8. Bake: Adjust oven racks to lower/middle position. Preheat the oven to 350 F. Bake bread for about 30-33 minutes, or until golden brown on top. Give the top of a loaf a gentle tap; it should sound hollow.

Without knowledge, we have no understanding. Without understanding, we cannot discern what is truth and what is false. We must seek to understand so that we can discern what is truth. We have biblical instructions in Matthew 7:7 (CSB), “Ask, and it will be given to you. Seek, and you will find. Knock, and the door will be opened to you.” The knowledge we need is available to us if we take the time to ask, seek, and find. This requires personal and purposeful action, where we must try to learn for ourselves as much information as possible to make a sound decision, support a worthy cause, or voice a strong opinion. For the most part, we all keep our emotions in check. However, there are days when out of nowhere, tears and sadness flood our souls. These are the days when we can’t seem to get out of our own head and away from tormenting thoughts that pour in like a torrential rain. Emotionally rainy days are absolutely no fun.
