Gò0dNews from the Pastor’s Desk Ask The Pastor: What Sort of Man Should I Marry?

A

by Reagan Marsh

s a pastor and biblical counselor, single ladies often ask me what sort of man they should marry. Here is a quick summary (in no particular order) of the most important things the Bible says to look

for in a potential husband. There is much more to say here, but not less. A man worth marrying should: 1. Value and apply Scripture’s rule above self-reliance in his life and thought (Isaiah 66:2) 2. Love Jesus more than you (Colossians 3:4) 3. Be more committed to pleasing Christ than pleasing you (2 Corinthians 5:9) 4. Be deeply committed to weekly worship at a faithful local church,

23. Honor his parents and yours as best he can, particularly his mother; how he treats her is how he’ll treat you (Exodus 20:12) 24. Be worth imitating in his gentleness and patience toward others (1 Corinthians 11:1; Philippians 3:17) 25. Be a man of purity: honorable in his online activity, social media interactions, and viewing habits (Ephesians 5:5-7) 26. Be a man of integrity, faithful in business dealings with client and coworker alike (Matthew 5:37) 27. Be temperate and selfcontrolled with

entrusting his soul’s care to godly, biblically-qualified elders (Hebrews

alcohol, not given

10:21-25; Hebrews 13:7,17)

to much wine

5. Help you be faithful in weekly worship there as well (Ephesians 5:25-27) 6. Desire growth in grace with you more than merely growing old with you (2 Peter 3:18) 7. Spur you on to biblical godliness, not mere superficial conformity (Hebrews 10:25b) 8. Be committed to godly change, aiming to conform his whole life more to Scripture each day (Philippians 2:12-13) 9. Be committed to serving, modeling Christ’s ministry in your home (Mark 10:45) 10. Read and feed on the Bible each day (Psalm 1:2) 11. Be committed to regular family worship, recognizing his role and responsibility as the spiritual head who will account to God for your soul and those of your children (Ephesians 6:4) 12. Habitually memorize and meditate on Scripture, privately and with you (Psalm 119:11) 13. Seek to apply Scripture to his own life and your life together (Genesis 18:19) 14. Be accountable to other godly, growing Christians, desiring to glorify God in his life (James 5:16) 15. Seek faithful biblical counsel for his decisions, problems, and besetting sins (Romans 15:14)

(Ephesians 5:18) 28. Be a courageous man, unafraid and willing to protect you (1 Corinthians 16:13; Luke 22:36) 29. Be a principled man of biblical conviction, unafraid to stand alone for truth—even if it’s costly (Ephesians 6:13) 30. Be a friend, one who enjoys spending time with you and is pleasant to be around (Proverbs 18:24; 1 Peter 3:7) 31. Be one to whom there is at least some basic level of physical attraction (1 Corinthians 7:2-5) 32. Be one to whom you are willing to submit yourself in all things lawful (Ephesians 5:22-24) 33. Be a man of wisdom, knowing both the ways of men and the Word of God (Jeremiah 17:9; Acts 17:11) 34. Be a man who is teachable, willing to learn and grown from those who know more than him (Luke 2:46, 52) 35. Be the kind of man you want your sons to become and your daughters to marry (Proverbs 23:15-25 and 27:11) He may be the bad boy, the pretty boy, the funny boy, or the flirty

16. Model true (not token!) humility before Scripture (Proverbs 3:5)

boy…but ladies, all those guys are still boys. Scripture calls men to be men—

17. Exemplify obedience to God’s law, building his life upon the 10

mighty in the Lord, faithful to their wives, and serious about the Cross of

Commandments (Matthew 4:4) 18. Honor man’s law faithfully, insofar as God’s law permits (Romans 13:1-7; Acts 5:29) 19. Be committed to working hard to provide for his family (2 Thessalonians 3:10) 20. Pray and read Scripture with you, discussing the things of God with you consistently (Deuteronomy 6:1-9)

Christ. Do not buy the worldly wisdom of “not settling for less than you deserve”—ladies, do not settle for less than God expects. Do not waste your life with men who waste theirs, and do not settle for satisfying yourself (or others!) instead of glorifying God. The blood-soaked Cross of Jesus demands our marriages be shaped by its all-consuming fullness. Feel free to submit your questions at reformationdalton.com—I’ll seek to answer them from God’s Word.

more holy (1 Peter 1:13-17; Hebrews 12:1, 12-14) 22. Recognize his own indwelling sin, actively seeking to kill it (Romans 8:12-13; Ephesians 4:22-24; Colossians 3:5-14)

A Little Dog Named Rosie here once was a little dog named Rosie. She was very loved by her master. Rosie’s master found her at a shelter. He chose her to be part of his family. She had one paw that was shorter than the others. He did not care about that. Rosie did not have to be perfect for him to love her. He loved her exactly as she was. She was a joy to him. Very first thing every morning, her master would bend over, pick her up, pet her, and tell her just how much he loved her—this was one of Rosie’s favorite times of the day. Her master was also her friend. They enjoyed each other’s company. He was mindful of where she was at all times. He knew when she was hungry, when she wanted to play, and when she just needed to rest. He took very good care of her. Throughout the day, her master would sing to her. Sometimes, the songs were silly. Sometimes, the songs were serious. They were either about her or for her enjoyment. He always had a song on his heart just for her. Sometimes, Rosie would get muddy and dirty. He would pick her up out of the dirt, knowing he would get dirty

himself. He would give her a good cleaning. All was right in her world once again. At night, Rosie slept under his arm. She was perfectly safe when she stayed close to him. Her master loved her, and she loved him. Did you know that Jesus wants to be your Master? He wants to do for you as Rosie’s master did for her. How do we know this? Because He tells us in His Word. The Bible is always true—we can believe what it says. He wants you to be part of His family: Ephesians 1:5 says, “Long ago, he already decided to accept us into his family as his children, because of Jesus Christ. He chose us to belong to him because it made him very happy” (Easy English Bible). Jesus calls those who follow Him “friend”: John 15:15 says, “…I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you” (NIV). God knows all about you: Psalm 139:3 says, “You see me when I go out, and you see me when I stay at home. You know everything that I do!” (Easy English Bible). He even sings for you: “The Lord, your God, is with you. He is strong, He will save you. He will be very happy about you! He will quietly love you. He will sing, because he is so happy about you!” (Zephaniah 3:17, Easy English Bible). When we do things that God does not want us to do, our heart becomes dirty. God sent His son Jesus to clean us up: “Jesus is the way our sins are taken away. And he is the way all people can have their sins taken away too” (1 John 2:2, ERV). Jesus was God’s way of stooping down and telling us just how much He loves us. You are even more precious to Him than Rosie was to her earthly master. And that is very, very precious!

A Blessed Man’s Lasting Legacy

lessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on His law day and night” (Psalms 1:1-2). Charles Spurgeon lived from 1854-1892. He was raised in a family of preachers. Despite the fact that his parents kept him from gross sin, he still felt the sting of sin and despised who he was early in life. He did not see God as loving and was constantly mindful of his shortcomings. Spurgeon, during this time, found his way to a Methodist church where the pastor was preaching from Isaiah 45:22: “Turn to me and be saved, all you ends of the earth; for I am God, and there is no other.” You only have to look to the Lord and be saved. Those simple words gripped his heart and thus began a loving relationship with his precious Savior. Salvation was no longer something he had to earn or achieve; he just looked to the Lord and was saved. Spurgeon preached his first sermon at the age of sixteen, and by the age of nineteen, was the pastor of a church in London that became the biggest Baptist church in Great Britain. This church would later become the largest independent church in the world. He preached to over 10 million people in his lifetime. His recorded sermons are an estimated 20-25 million words and sixty-three volumes long. It still stands today as the largest library in the history of Christianity, and that does not even include his books, other materials, and songs he produced. Spurgeon was a man noted for his love for the poor. He started an orphanage and established sixty ministries at his church in London. However, he was also a man of controversy. He preached during a time when Charles Darwin and other academic professionals questioned the validity of the Bible. In response to Darwin, he preached a message in a gorilla suit. His message was about the Gorilla man and the land he inhabits. The media often criticized him for his stance against the great philosophical minds of his time—people either loved or hated him. After over thirty years of ministry, Spurgeon decided it best to sever his ties with the Baptist Union and become an independent church. This ordeal was known

12 // November 2021

as the Downgrade Controversy. He felt the church had downgraded the basic fundamental truths of the Bible. There are a lot of historical questions about what exactly happened and how this drama unfolded. I believe he was misunderstood, but through it all, he never let go of his personal faith in Jesus Christ and his love for the Word of God. He was a true picture of the Blessed man described in Psalms 1, who lived by and delighted in the Word of God. It took him twenty years to produce the Treasury of David. I am currently enjoying his book on the Holy Spirit. Would Spurgeon have left such a legacy had he and others not been faithful and recorded it all? God’s words through him and others continue to reach beyond this earthly life and touch our world today. I believe these are some of the major keys to leaving a lasting legacy for God.

The devil knew the vulnerable position that Jesus was in, so he used it to his advantage. He said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread” (Matthew 4:3, CSB). Jesus then responds with what He knows intimately: God’s Word. “He answered, ‘It is written: Man must not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of God’” (Matthew 4:4). What Jesus said echoed Deuteronomy 8:3. Deuteronomy 8 was God’s command to His people to remember their Lord by how He provided everything they needed in their wilderness for forty years. Jesus knew God would not leave him hungry nor would He forsake him in his weakness. He knew his Father’s unfailing Word. The Tiny Mustard Seed

F

by Karen D. Jeffery

aith, as promised in the Bible, is what grows in us as we become stronger Christians. The more we desire, the more

we can become as the mustard seed. In Matthew 17:20, Jesus said, “Because of

your unbelief: I say unto you, if you have the faith of a grain of mustard seed, ya shall say into this mountain, remove hence to yonder place: and it shall be removed; and nothing shall be impossible onto you.” Our faith can grow to unmeasurable amounts if it has been planted upon good ground. Then, it must be watered daily, with cultivated sunshine added. Sometimes, we all face those things daily that we cannot believe we recover from. A tiny measure of faith can move those mountains that are too high to climb and those rivers and valleys that are too deep and long to cross. The mustard seed can grow into a tree 10-feet-tall in just a few short months. This demonstrates one example—even tiny things can turn into something very strong and mighty. “Therefore it is of faith that it might be according to grace, so that the promise might be sure to all the seed, not only to those who are of the law, but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all”

we meet. This will help you as well as others you come in contact with daily. Speak life unto yourself as others. “So that we may boldly say, the Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me” (Hebrews 13:6). Let brotherly love continue.

(Romans 4:16). while being an encouragement to everyone 20 // November 2021

Without Delay recently took my first business trip since the onset of the pandemic. I was a little concerned whether I would still remember how to navigate the challenges that travel inevitably presents. It had been, after all, eighteen months since the last time I boarded a plane. To my relief and somewhat surprise, the old routine kicked right in. Everything about the trip went as planned. Well, almost. Early for a supper engagement on one of the evenings, I was waiting downstairs in the hotel lobby. As I was standing there, I could see a retired couple walking towards me down this long corridor. They were moving slow, unusually so. Once they got a bit closer, I could see why. The woman’s arm was in a sling, and she was carefully nursing it. As they approached, this overwhelming feeling to engage them came over me. This feeling was not an aberration, for I have experienced countless promptings in prior travel to initiate a conversation with perfect strangers. What I did with it this time, however, was rather than allow my introversion to suppress the desire, I heeded the call. For the next fifteen minutes, the woman and I had a wonderful talk. She outlined her many physical ailments and some pain connected to not seeing her adult granddaughter on a more regular basis. The woman left encouraged, as I could tell she appreciated my genuine interest and concern. I left torn. On one hand, I was thrilled that I obeyed the Spirit’s direction. Starting a dialogue was not nearly as difficult as I had expected. I now feel empowered to do more of it. But I only surrendered in part. He was calling me to share the gospel. I did not and could feel the guilt beginning to build. Enter the second aberration. Past failures like this one would typically cause a great deal of emotional dissonance. The angst would start with me replaying the scenario over and over in my head. It would them morph into selfrepudiation as I identified with excruciating detail all of the various points where I could have—should have—obeyed Jesus. But I did not do that here. Instead, I went to the Lord without delay and quickly surrendered my remorse. In doing so, I could feel almost instantaneously His forgiveness and reassurance wash over me. He put Romans 8:1 on my

heart: “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus” (ESV). There is not a sweeter verse in all of Scripture on which to ruminate after a trespass. Yes, Jesus commands me to share the gospel. Yes, it grieves Him when I do not. And yes, I too should grieve over the failure—the truly blood-bought take seriously their life’s aim of pleasing the Savior. But that does not mean I

should be stuck in some perpetual state of regret. The Lord wants me to repent and be released from such a burden so I can move forward. He is, after all, a God of great grace. “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end” (Lamentations 3:22, ESV). Because of these ceaseless mercies, I can approach Him with confidence regardless of circumstance knowing, tenderness, not judgment, awaits me (Hebrews 4:16, ESV). The key is to do so quickly. We ought to take our sin and seek Jesus’s forgiveness without delay. There is no reason to wait—the sooner we approach Him, the quicker the mercies will flow. We will not only stave off a lot of unnecessary grief but we will be in a better position to honor the Lord for that next opportunity around the corner.

Repentance is giving one’s entire self to Christ because

God’s grace trains sinners to “renounce ungodliness and worldly passions” (Titus 2:11-12), which is repentance. Repentance, therefore, is not the enemy of God’s free grace but the fruit of it! Finally, repentance is necessary because Jesus transfers sinners to a new kingdom. “He has delivered us from the domain of darkness,” Paul writes, “and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son” (Col. 1:13). A transfer in kingdoms means a transfer in kings. Is it any wonder, then, that one of Jesus’ main titles is “Lord”? We are not transferred from the domain of darkness to the kingdom of me, myself, and I—God’s grace installs King Jesus upon the throne of sinners’ hearts.

By combining hands-on chiropractic care with cutting-edge technology and top-notch customer service, Pray ChiropracticDalton has recently expanded to a 6,000 square foot office with four full-time Chiropractors fluent in both English and Spanish. The Dalton office was designed to create and enhance the optimal healing environment. The soft wall colors, natural barn wood floors, soothing music, and the relaxing sound of wall fountains give patients an immediate sense of calm and healing. In addition to its Chiropractors, Pray Chiropractic’s Dalton office is staffed with over twenty Chiropractic Assistants, mostly bilingual, to keep up with the patient demand. The office is now open seven days a week, from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. on weekdays, to accommodate today’s busy patient’s schedules. Pray Chiropractic also offers walk-in appointments for patients that need immediate care.

Expert Chiropractic Care From LightForce instruments to hands-on manual adjustments to gentle flexion/distraction techniques, the doctors at Pray Chiropractic personalize each adjustment to each individual’s physiology, age, and spinal condition to successfully treat conditions such as neck and back pain, whiplash injuries, headaches, shoulder pain, disc injuries, sciatica, and much more. The Chiropractors at Pray Chiropractic use the latest chiropractic technology to help patients get well, some with literally no twisting or “popping” of the spine. All the treatment rooms are equipped with top-of-the-line Hill Airflex Adjustment Tables. These tables offer air-powered innovations that give the doctors the ability to use a variety of adjusting styles such as flexion/distraction, or drop techniques to gently and efficiently treat all areas of the spine.

Each treatment room is also equipped with a high-tech, handheld instrument called an Arthrostim that aids the doctor in performing adjustments. This powerful tool delivers 12-14 thrusts per second, making it much stronger and faster than a typical single thrust administered by a chiropractor, and has become one of the fastest-growing forms of chiropractic manipulation. The Arthrostim does not cause the same “popping” or crackling noises that can make some people uneasy during traditional chiropractic treatments but instead is a gentle, mechanical method of easing the joints back into alignment.

NSSD is an Alternative to Surgery Non-surgical Spinal Decompression (NSSD) is effective in treating back pain, neck pain, and sciatica caused by bulging, herniated, and degenerative discs. Even post-surgical patients and those suffering from stenosis have reported significant pain relief from Spinal Decompression treatments. Patients lie on a comfortable table and feel a light, gentle pull on the spine. This dynamic pull allows fluids to be pumped back into the discs so that they can heal. DTS Spinal Decompression Therapy slowly lengthens and decompresses the spine, painlessly reducing neck and back pain. Our welltrained staff monitors patients constantly while on the table, even offering heated blankets. The experience can be so relaxing that many patients actually fall asleep. Studies have shown Spinal Decompression reduces disc herniation size up to 90% in a majority of patients, while also decreasing pain up to 90%. The vast majority of even the worst cases experience significant, long-lasting relief, including those patients with failed back surgery. Many patients report not only a reduction in their pain but a feeling that their backs have become more durable and stronger over the course of treatment.

Laser Therapy: Reduce Pain and Recover Faster Always on the cutting edge, Pray Chiropractic was the

According to Dr. Pray, having personally performed over 250,000 patient visits in Northwest Georgia, “The new 40-watt XLi LightForce laser has been a game-changer in my practice. It is the most effective pain-reducing therapy I have seen in 25 years of treating pain patients.” In fact, many patients see pain reduction immediately after the very first treatment. The increased power of the 40-watt laser and its 40% larger surface area allows deeper tissue penetration in a shorter treatment time, which dramatically improves patient results. These advancements enable the laser to treat difficult post-surgical spine conditions such as hardware, rods, and metal fusions more effectively and safely. Laser therapy is also clinically proven to reduce pain and inflammation associated with many common conditions, such as neck and lower back pain, bursitis, tendonitis, and plantar fasciitis. Used by over 250 professional and collegiate sports teams, LightForce lasers are the preferred modality for treating world-class athletes. Treatment at Pray Chiropractic allows people to get back in the game of life. No matter what your goals are, from simple pain relief to becoming a wellness patient, we will work with you to reach them. Along the way, we will educate you on your condition so that you understand how your problem has occurred and what you can do to prevent it from happening again. Whether you are hunched over a computer or putting in twelvehour shifts in a repetitive job or an athlete who needs to return to play, all can benefit from the services at Pray Chiropractic. From Roots to Garden Center

R

oots are necessary for soil stabilization, proper nutrition, and plant growth. Our personal roots influence our personalities, ideas, and beliefs in life. My family aided the growth of my roots in my personality, values, joys, and skills. I was taught about the value of plants to the soul, how to make work enjoyable, and the necessity of a close personal community of friends no matter a person’s age. After working as a Landscape Architect in Atlanta for several years, it was time to break free from office life and return to the joys of working more hand in hand with plant life. Something we discuss in staff meetings regularly is our focus on creating an atmosphere and environment that reflects the benefits of plants. What benefits do plants provide you ask? I can speak from experience of the joy and peace that plants provide through growing, planting, trimming, fertilizing, and seeing new growth and blooms from the fruits of our labor. Furthermore, scientific studies have proven that the benefits of working with plants can lower stress levels and blood pressure while improving mood and creativity. We, as a staff, hope to make someone’s day better than it was before they entered our doors. The atmosphere sets the tone for us to be able to showcase a wide variety of offerings for our customers. In case you have not visited in a few years, we expanded in 2017 to add a gift shop and boutique, while broadening our house plant department. Fiddleheads provides the opportunity for you to handpick your plants and soil, while also choosing a gift for a special friend and selecting a new dress for church. Our friendly and knowledgeable staff will assist you in finding the proper plants for your landscape, kitchen, or office. If you have difficulty selecting plants as well as with the layout, we have two designers on staff who can show you how to plan a functional and aesthetic landscape. For simple projects, we can assist in the store but will also meet on-site for more detailed projects. What is a business without its customers? One of my favorite experiences of all is seeing young children grow up year after year helping their family select flowers, pumpkins, and of course the perfect Christmas tree. We have seen a lot of your children grow up and truly love the sight of parents instilling a love for plants and nature.

30 // November 2021

Another aspect of the job that fuels our love is the success of our customers, especially those who said they had a thumb that kills all plants. Fiddleheads has been fortunate to have a truly great group of customers that join us from Dalton (of course), Ellijay, Chatsworth, Rome, Calhoun, Ringgold, Chattanooga, Atlanta, and beyond. We have landscape professionals, expert gardeners, amateur gardeners, and people who have never planted a single plant in their lifetime, yet plant that first one with us. We have some who are only into house plants or vegetable plants or Christmas trees or pumpkins or gifts or apparel. We have enjoyed helping you solve your gardening challenges and share in the joy of your gardening successes. The Fiddleheads customer base is the one making Dalton and Northwest Georgia more and more beautiful every year. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Roots are necessary for soil stabilization, proper nutrition, and plant growth. Let plants support making your (and your loved ones) life healthier and more joyful each day.

Fiddleheads is a locally family owned customer service garden center serving Dalton and surrounding areas. We are a unique destination garden center bringing a creative and rustic atmosphere that not only provides customers with the products that they desire, but also educates, inspires, and brings them back time and time again.

Why Trials and Temptations?

I

by Brian Edward Johnson

have always been fascinated by Matthew 4:1. “Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.” Jesus had just gotten baptized.

The Bible says, “the heavens were opened unto him” (Matthew 3:16), and God’s voice was heard from heaven. Pretty awesome stuff, right? Then, he is in the wilderness getting tempted. The thing that blows me away about this verse is that the Holy Spirit led him to be tempted. This temptation was intentional. We do not like trials, and I assume most of us do not want to be tempted. But this verse tells me that you can be in God’s will, walking in the Spirit, and still go through trials and temptations. Remember Job? The Bible says he was “perfect and upright” (Job 1:1), and he went through a trial that would have many of us giving up. One of the interesting aspects of that story is the trial was God’s idea. “And the Lord said unto Satan, ‘Hast thou considered my servant Job…’” (Job 1:8).

Changing by Pamela Latham

I call this one, Changing. Been doing a lot of thinking, about things that I have done. Been doing a lot of wishing, changing my life was one. I turned around to Jesus, I’m the one That turned my back. Jesus was waiting for me, He sat me on his lap. He gently rocked me back and forth, a smile upon his face, He told me how much he loved me; He knows I can finish this race. He told me he walked beside me and carried me through the worst. He saw the abuse and brutality; he heard my mother’s curse. He knew I’d run to him, when I could fight no more. He knew I’d lose everything; I’d hit rock bottom at 54. That’s how long it took for me to open my ears and eyes Most things that were told to me, most of them were lies I know for sure, I have no doubt, that Jesus is all I want, I know his love—I trust his love, so I put him up front Satan will not win even though his rage has been unfurled

In other words, we tend to be thankful for those things outside of ourselves. C.S. Aunt Mildred’s Chicken Casserole by Leslie Bennett

hen I think about chicken casserole, I always associate it with my sweet Aunt Mildred. She was my dad’s sister, and she

lived next door to us when I was growing up. She was a beautiful lady and had such a kind heart. When my mom’s health was declining, and my dad was doing all the cooking, Aunt Mildred came and knocked on the door one day and handed my dad a chicken casserole she had prepared for them. I happened to stop by Mom and Dad’s house that day, and my dad wanted me to try it. It tasted really good, so I had my dad get Aunt Mildred’s recipe for me. Any chicken casserole I had ever tasted until that day was made in a 13x9 inch pan, but Aunt Mildred’s was different. It was made in a smaller, deeper

casserole dish. It was so smooth and creamy. This is the recipe I use now. Aunt Mildred passed away a few years ago, and I am so glad I got her recipe before she died. I made it for dinner—I know she would be proud of me.

Ingredients • 3-4 chicken breasts (boiled) • 4 tablespoons of butter • 1 can of cream of chicken soup • 1 can of cream of celery soup • 8 ounces of sour cream • salt and pepper to taste

• Boil chicken breasts and let cool • Tear chicken apart

• Take ½ cup of chicken broth from pan and set aside • Melt butter in casserole dish

• Combine the soups and cream cheese in a bowl, salt and pepper to taste • Put half of the chicken in the butter in the casserole dish • Put half of the soup mixture on top of the chicken

• Put the other half of the chicken on top of that and add the rest of the soup mixture • Top with cornbread stuffing or crumbled Ritz crackers • Pour chicken both over the top

• Bake in a preheated oven at 350 degrees for 35 minutes until the top is golden brown

Be A Light

J

esus said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life” (John 8:12). Once we accept Jesus, we become Christ-

like. Just like Jesus, we too can be a light. It takes giving your life to God and being willing and obedient to be used at any time. You may be the only “bible” some people will ever know. Be prepared to share your faith. Have a scripture reference in your heart. One of my favorite scriptures to share is Jeremiah 29:11: “I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” These words rang true in my spirit when I was going through a difficult time. They encourage me every time I read them. I have shared this passage with many and I know the Word of God does not return void. Every time we share a testimony, the Word, pray with someone or even invite them to church, we are letting our light shine. A great evangelist once said prayerlessness is a sin. I was a new believer when I heard this and it made a great impression on me. One of my favorite books is entitled, Intercession, Thrilling and Fulfilling by Joy Dawson. The book goes into detail about the benefits and power of having a prayer life. Prayer is communication with God. A strong prayer life involves speaking God’s Word over situations and circumstances, thanking God for who He is and all He has done, and listening to God’s voice. Some people are good at making their petitions
