Modern-Day Miracles

Some people believe that there are no miracles in today’s world. Some say Jesus only performed miracles back when He walked the earth. Well, I beg to differ. I am 54 years old, and I have seen miracle after miracle in my lifetime. I have watched as life’s flight left the ground with my precious baby girl at 11 months old, knowing she was fighting for every breath. They had given her two hours to live: BUT GOD! He stepped in and gave her a new heart. Before she got that heart, she sustained a

severe brain injury and was supposed to be a vegetable for the rest of her life. That “vegetable” is now a senior in high school. But let’s talk about just one miracle that happened to her during that six months in the hospital.

The day my daughter got her heart, they had to do a procedure on her old heart, not knowing yet that a heart would become available that very night. She began to bleed out. As fast as they were pumping blood in, it was coming right back out of the chest tubes. I remembered a verse in the Bible that my father had told me about growing up. That verse is Ezekiel 16:6. We all began to read that verse and pray for God to stop the blood. Within minutes, the doctor came out to tell us that the blood had stopped instantly and they could not understand how. Oh, we knew exactly how: GOD!

Sometimes God performs miracles that come in the form of the pitter-patter of little feet, holding a baby in the middle 24 // May 2021

of the night as they cry, or drying little tears with your kisses. We have some friends that this happened to many times over. In 2005, this beautiful couple came together in marriage and was blessed with a beautiful baby boy in 2006, Sam. Sam was the light of their lives, but he was born with a heart defect. After many surgeries, Sam became too ill to survive without a heart transplant. The heart never came, and God called him home. Before God called him home, He had blessed John and Tanja with another baby: a beautiful little girl, Emma Grace.

Tanja asked God to please not let her home be quiet.

She wanted to hear the laughter of children again in her home. This is where our God brought the miracle in!!

This beautiful family decided to become foster parents.

They became a miracle to more children than I can count: children that needed hugs and kisses and love in the middle of the night, children that otherwise would not have had anyone to hold them when they cried. They soon found out that the miracle God had for them was out of all of these babies, four of them found their forever home with this beautiful family. I can only imagine the smiles that Sam has in Heaven looking down on all his brothers and sisters that he will one day run to in Heaven.

Miracles are all around us. They come in the form of just looking at the stars on a beautiful summer night. They come in watching a newborn baby enter the world. They come in the form of a child’s little arms around your neck. They come in the form of a child’s laughter as they stand in the snow, catching snowflakes on their tongue. But they also come in the form of watching a person with stage 4 cancer suddenly be healed or a heart defect suddenly be gone. God is still on the throne. His miracles are still many and mighty. So look around you today as you walk around town or as you are driving through the city. I promise you will see a miracle every day.
