Security in God

It is so easy to get discouraged with all of life’s stresses and lose focus on what is truly important. I often find myself reading from the Book of Psalms to find strength and comfort during life’s ups and downs. Today, I was struck by Psalm 16:8-9: “I have set the Lord always before me; Because He is at my right hand I shall not be moved. Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoices; My flesh also will rest in hope.”
The psalmist reminds us to always know that as God’s children, we have a benevolent Father who loves us and has our interests at heart in His perfect will. While daily anxieties may come, we will not be shaken because He is above all things. He secures us in His great strength—which is without equal. We can rest in the midst of trials and tribulations both securely and with gladness of heart. In fact, during both the good and bad times, verse nine says my glory (my whole being) rejoices. As believers, we have the security of knowing that no matter the circumstances of this world and our life in it, eternity is paid in full by our Savior Jesus Christ.
This is what Paul was talking about in Philippians 4:11-13: “Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content: I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things, I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
Set your eyes on the Lord and take solace in the security He offers us as His children. Know that while the Earth shakes under the toll of sin, we are redeemed by His righteousness. Due to our faith in Christ Jesus, we rest in His grace and we will not be shaken. During troubled times, face life with a glad heart and fully rejoice in the truth of His word that you are His. No matter if life is good or bad—whether it is our best or worst moment—our God strengthens us for His purpose.
My prayer for the Church (the body united by faith in Jesus) is that God will help us during our lowest moments to have the joy that surpasses all understanding. May we rest securely in our Lord and Savior so that others would see
the difference He makes in our lives—that they too might believe. Heavenly Father, help us as individuals during our happiest and most joyful times to always give You praise for Your continued blessings. Grant us the strength to endure and to continue to live faithfully even in our worst circumstances because we are sustained by Your lovingkindness and tender mercies.
May God bless you all and may you securely rest and find peace in Him!
