Thinking Like the Holy Spirit

Cornbread Salad Recipe

hen I was a child, Sunday dinner was an event. Any member of our large extended family and any guest who happened to tag
along from church was offered a seat at the dining room table. Extensions were added and the table groaned under the weight of the delicious dishes. One of my favorite sides was this cornbread salad. It featured homegrown vegetables straight from the garden and a slightly tart dressing. There were never leftovers of this salad! As an adult, I often serve this salad during the summer months. A perfect addition for potlucks, picnics, or Sunday dinners, this salad does require chilling time. It can be made a day in advance and stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator. This allows the flavors to blend. My prayer for you is that this recipe will help create lasting summer memories with your family and friends.
Ingredients For The Salad:
• 2½ cups cornbread (use your favorite recipe or a boxed mix) • 1 medium green bell pepper, diced • 1 medium yellow onion, diced • 3 medium tomatoes, diced
• ½ cup bread and butter pickles, diced
• 12 bacon slices, cooked and crumbled For The Dressing:
• 1 cup mayonnaise
Instructions 1. Crumble the cornbread and place in a medium bowl. 2. Top the cornbread with a layer of green bell pepper, then a layer of onion. 3. Top the onion layer with tomatoes. 4. Top the tomato layer with a layer of pickles. 5. Top the pickle layer with crumbled bacon. 6. Make the dressing: mix the mayonnaise, sugar, bread and butter pickle juice, salt, and pepper until blended. 7. Spread dressing over the top of the salad. 8. Chill for two hours before serving.

Don’t rob your baby of his or her opportunity to explore the days of their life that Father has ordained for them. And don’t rob the world of the voice and purpose that this precious little one will bring. You may feel like you can’t take care of your baby, and my heart goes out to you if you feel that way. However, you still have options that will preserve the life of your child. If you will find your local pro-life crisis pregnancy center, they will set you up with resources that can help provide for your needs during your pregnancy and even after the birth.

Also, if you are interested in letting another family love and raise your precious baby, know that open adoption is the standard these days if you want it. “Open adoption” means you get to see your baby occasionally and you receive pictures and letters about how they are doing—so
you won’t have to wonder and agonize over how your child is doing. Even if you choose another family to raise and love your baby, you can still play a part in their lives. If you have a financial need, non-profit adoption agencies can even help support you while you carry your child. Please, find your local Christian adoption agency, and they will tell you all about it. Beloved, your baby is a gift from God to you. Even if you messed up, your baby is still a gift from God. Please steward it well. And, whether you choose to raise your baby yourself or to find another couple that has been longing to hold a child in their arms, you will always be blessed by your baby’s life. For a dentist who had always been sold on the “care” part of healthcare, I was starting to feel like I was part of an assembly line. Although the people I worked with and alongside were great, I had to move on. So, I moved on to another corporate office. It was better, but other issues that were out of my control came up. I decided that if I wanted to provide the type of patient care that I thought was best, I needed a change. I had never planned to open an office. My interest in dentistry had always leaned toward the patient care part of the profession and away from the day-to-day minutiae of running a business. Though the years of working in corporate dentistry were frustrating, they had imparted a valuable lesson. True control over the quality of patient care could only come if there were no outside stakeholders dictating the conditions of that care. At this particular crossroads of my professional career, it became clear that the only path forward would involve building a practice from the ground up. Soza Family Dentistry opened in April of 2016. Although starting a business can be intimidating, I was confident that with God’s help in guiding me to find the right people, and by providing the type of quality care I desired, that my practice would grow. Over the course of three years, the schedule has gradually filled and new staff members have joined the team. Throughout all the change, I have pushed forward under one guiding principle: ensure that each patient receives the same quality of dental care

Yes, people will disappoint us, and our feelings are real, but that doesn’t mean
