ou are about to read something that will shock you: people are messy. Shocking, right? Probably not. Honestly, you probably read that statement and nodded in agreement (we can at least pretend I got that right) because everyone has been hurt by someone. Even though we may be Christians, one of the hardest things to do is to do as Jesus tells us in Matthew 28:18-20 and lead people to have a relationship with Jesus. The difficult thing is that when we read the Bible, we see messy people God used to help other messy people, and we wonder: how did the people in the Bible do it? I believe what made some people in the Bible, and some people in today’s world, successful in loving others, is that they learned to see what God could and can do with someone, not just who the person was in the moment. Here are a few suggestions on how to do this: 1. Remember We Are Image-Bearers of God When God created Adam and Eve (Gen 1-2), He created them in His own image; the problem is that we can sometimes resemble sin more than our Heavenly Father. Because of that, those of us who identify as followers of Jesus can see people as projects instead of persons of eternal value. I believe God wants us to see people as His creation, deserving of respect, love, patience, and grace because He made them for a purpose: to praise God and help others praise God. 2. Remember Sinners Will Acts Like Sinners and Saints Still Sin When we meet people who are not followers of Christ, we as Christians, should not expect these people

to live moral lives. We should expect sinners to act like sinners: to let us down, to rebel, to have hardened hearts, and to live like they don’t know Jesus. When we remember this, we will have realistic expectations that help us manage frustrations, meaning we will stress less when sinners do not live for Jesus. Likewise, we should expect Christians to be imperfect (after all, we are imperfect!). We may be eternally purified, but we can be carnal. We need to give one another the grace Jesus gives us every day: renewed and increasing! 3. Remember How Much We All Need Jesus In moments when I am like the Pharisee who prays by condemning another and by focusing only on my status and achievements (Luke 18:11-12), the Gospel convicts me. The Gospel of Jesus Christ reminds us that we are all sinners (Romans 3:23), we deserve Hell (Romans 6:23a), Jesus loved us when we were unlovable (Romans 5:8), He gives us eternal life as a gift (Romans 6:23b), and we can all be saved by calling on the name of Jesus in repentance and faith (Romans 10:9-13), we realize that we are no different from the person with the biggest mess of a life possible. We all equally need Jesus and we all equally need others to remind us of that everyday.

He has a Master of Divinity with a specialization in pastoral ministry from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, and he is currently pursuing a PhD in Expository Preaching from NOBTS. A Note to Self

o you have a journal or a diary? You may think that is an out of date question. You may even be asking me as you read this, “Who does that anymore?” I even laughed a bit to myself as I asked the question. But, it’s not odd and it’s something that we have gotten away from in the fast age of computers,

and said, ‘put the vision in writing and make it clear on stones, so that the reader may go quickly.’” Simply meaning: write things down. You may have had talks with God and asked for things to happen better in your life. You may have wished for a family member to get better, for a friend to be happy, or even asked God to improve some things for you. Write it down! Yes, He hears you when you call out. Yes, He knows your thoughts. But, write it down so that you can also remember what you have shared with him. What about the dreams that you have for your life? What do you want to do even as a young person? Write it down! Make it plain! That way, you as the author and the reader can run with it. When you look back on what you have written, God will remind you of His promises to fulfill what is in His will. When you look back, you will be reminded of the steps you have taken from that date towards your dreams. When you look back at what you have written, you will find encouragement in your words and remember the gifts that God has given you to walk through your live. The words will then not only be on the paper, but begin to make a mark in your heart and spirit. Proverbs 7:3 says, “Bind them on your fingers; write them on the tablet of your heart.”

In the Old Testament book of Habakkuk, there is a verse in chapter 2 that many adults quote that could be helpful even as a young person. Verse 2 (Basic English version), says this, “And the Lord gave me an answer

tablets, and smart phones. When I was in elementary school, it was common to have a diary and even a few boys kept a journal just to jot down some thoughts. It’s actually not a bad idea to revisit that practice.

So, I challenge you to begin a journal. It can be a paper notebook or a journal app on the computer or phone. Either way, write. It doesn’t have to be long, just a thought for the day, a few sentences that share how you are feeling, an event from school, or a prayer that you have. I encourage you to begin “Notes to Self” and watch how God’s plan for your life is put into action.

Be Passive Aggressive MONEY MATTERS WITH DR. ANDREW LEE Dr. Andrew Lee is professor of English at Lee University. He also serves as a coordinator for Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University. He and his wife Esmerelda have three children.

y regular readers know that I have served as a coordinator for Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University for over fourteen years at my local church, Westmore Church of God. So I’m a big advocate of Ramsey’s principles for budgeting and getting out of debt. Now, let me shock you by saying that I have some disagreements with statements Ramsey makes regarding investing. Let’s start with the common ground: I fully agree with Ramsey’s advice to try to save 15% of income every month into retirement accounts—Roth IRA, 401k, etc. And I have no problem with his advice to diversify your investments over a variety of stock funds including large companies, small companies, emerging markets, and global funds which invest in companies around the world. But I strongly disagree with Ramsey continually insisting that actively-managed mutual funds are the wisest choice because there are “plenty of them out there that have consistently beaten the market.” This statement is extremely suspect and flies in the face of all academic research over many decades. Certainly, some funds do beat the stock market indexes such as the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the S & P 500 Index of the 500 largest U.S. companies—in any given year. But the question is, how do actively-managed funds fare against “passive” index funds over long periods of time? Over periods of ten years, fifteen years, or longer, the number of actively-managed mutual funds that have “beat the market” consistently is very small; in fact, numerous academic studies by researchers (some of them have won the Nobel Prize for Economics) prove that after fifteen years, barely ten percent of activelymanaged mutual funds have beaten their benchmark index (the stock market average their performance is

judged against). And even this number of ten percent is really misleading because during those fifteen years, nearly half of the actively-managed funds collapsed and disappeared due to their poor performance, so the number of funds “beating the market” over fifteen years or longer is actually much smaller than ten percent. Ramsey is known for recommending the American Funds family which typically charges an upfront commission of 5.75% (ouch!), in addition to annual fees that are roughly triple the cost of a no-load index fund such as the Vanguard S&P 500 Index Fund or the Vanguard Total World Stock Index Fund (both which I highly recommend for diversification and the lowest fees in the industry). In fact, one of the American Funds which Ramsey owns shows a ten-year annual return of 7.61%, which is quite respectable until you see that the S&P 500 Index returned 9.69% over that same ten-year period, and the index fund (in this case, from Vanguard) had an annual expense ratio (fees charged yearly to the investor) which is fourteen times less expensive than the American Funds annual fees. Over a couple of decades or more, the difference in those annual costs really adds up and makes a tremendous difference in the amount of money you’ll have at retirement. I am obviously trying to be provocative by titling this article “Be Passive Aggressive,” but now you can see what I mean. While some like Dave Ramsey insist that actively-managed funds are superior to “passive” index funds, I (along with famed investor Warren Buffett and nearly every acclaimed academic economist) insist that most of us would be better off by investing in index funds due to their low costs and superior performance in the long run. When it comes to long-term investing, “don’t just do something, sit there.”

Slam That Door! wish I had never opened that door!” Upon parking my car in our garage I was looking forward to being greeted by the blue eyes of Mollie who was half Siberian Husky and half Alaskan Malamute. The daily grind had been tough that day responding to customer complaints, reviewing audits, and meeting metrics. Stress had attached itself to me like some black mold.

I approached the back door in our garage which led to the backyard without any forethought. I quickly turned the knob and pulled the door open. I screamed! I immediately slammed the door. “What was that?! That was not Mollie! Those eyes were black as coal!” I started walking in circles in the garage. I decided to take a peek at the creature behind the door again. Slowly I opened it and immediately I heard a growl-like sound. There sat an opossum, crouching behind the door that rose up at me exposing its teeth. I slammed the door again. “Where is Mollie?!” I looked out the garage window and there she was, standing frozen in the middle of the backyard. With the help of our neighbors’ high pressure hose, I chased off that nasty marsupial.

There are many other doors besides that one I wished I had never opened in my personal life. Sometimes temptation comes and finds us and sometimes we go looking. What is your vice? I thought once I crossed the line and believed that Jesus bore my sins on the cross, the struggle would be over. Wrong! The penalty for my sins was taken care of once and for all by the blood of Jesus Christ. However, the war continues for my soul and yours. From his book Genesis, Moses warns (4:7) “If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must master it.” So what does “crouching” mean in the context of this verse? Sin is waiting to be stirred up to destroy us. If you and I open the door to the enemy’s invitation to sin, we are rousing it up! What doors in your personal life need to be slammed shut? Think about your access to the internet through your I-Phone or your tablet device. Some men have referred to their phone as “porn in a box”. From his book #Struggles, Craig Groeschel writes: “I don’t know a single man who wanted to crush the wife he loves when she discovered his “little secret.” But one glance followed by another click often leads to an addiction that seems impossible to overcome.” As Paul stressed to Timothy, he stresses to us now: “Keep yourself pure” (1 Timothy 5:22b). Paul also did not believe in waiting around regarding temptation. In 1 Corinthians 6:18a he appears to shout: “Run from sexual sin!” If you really want to change, what boundaries are you willing to set?

Destiny Awaits oman, your destiny is waiting. You may come from humble beginnings. You may even be an orphan like me. There was a time when I felt like a nobody. At age 27, the Lord called me and told me to teach others about him. Through ACTS Ministry in Burkina Faso, thousands of women and children have heard and responded the Good News of Salvation in Jesus.

Jesus calls us into his family and we all have a unique destiny to fulfill. It is God who works in us both to will and to do of his good pleasure (Philippians 2:13). It didn’t look like it, but a young girl, an orphan by the name of Hadassah, had a destiny to fulfill. She was a most unlikely candidate for receiving honor. She was far away from her own country, in a foreign land under a Persian king who had no regard for the God of the Jews. It happened that the King grew angry with his

Queen and began looking among virgins from which he would choose a replacement. You know the story: by “chance” Hadassah, known to the Persians as Esther, was chosen and the King found he loved her above all the others. Esther was crowned queen. As this unfolded, the Lord was positioning Esther for destiny. Secretly, an enemy of the Jews plotted to kill all the Jews. Esther’s destiny was revealed. It was her time to speak out for righteousness and save her people. Her Uncle Mordecai told her to go and tell the King about the evil plot. Even though she was queen, Esther was a woman who had no right to talk to the King without an invitation. Esther was frightened. But Mordecai said that if she stayed quiet, deliverance might arise from another place, but she may be destroyed. Then he said the words often quoted, “Who knows if you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” Esther spoke and deliverance came. She fulfilled her destiny. The Lord knew you from your mother’s womb, called you and put you in the place where you are right now. He has planned your future, but you must choose it. Your destiny awaits. Each one of us can reach people that others cannot reach. And you are his first choice. What if your next decision opened a door to a life of joy and satisfaction? What if your words changed the outcome of another’s life-path or a whole nation? It is not chance that you have the friends you have. It is not chance that you live where you do. He was getting you into position. Do what it takes to prepare. The Lord has promised to help you find his will and to give you the strength to carry out his destiny through you. Not only will you find satisfaction as you work for the Lord, but he will also take pleasure in your destiny. Woman, like Esther, your destiny awaits.

Summer Berry Trifle by Deanna Key

Directions Ingredients • 3/4 c. Seedless raspberry jam • 1 quart (1 and a half pounds) of strawberries cut into fourths • 1 pint raspberries • 1 pint blueberries • 16 oz cream cheese • 1-3/4 c confectioner’s sugar • 1-1/2 c heavy whipping cream, cold • 1 tsp vanilla extract • 1 vanilla pound cake

Set aside a few berries for topping the trifle. Heat the raspberry jam in a large bowl in the microwave for about 1 minute, or until hot and liquidy. Add the fresh berries and toss to coat. Let sit while you prepare the rest of the recipe, stirring occasionally. In a large bowl, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form. Set aside. In another large bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with the powdered sugar until smooth and creamy. Beat in the vanilla and then beat in a third of the whipped cream. Using a large rubber spatula, fold in the rest of the whipped cream until well combined. Cover the bottom of a 9-inch (14-cup capacity) trifle dish or glass bowl with a layer of lady fingers (break into pieces as necessary). Follow with 1/3 of the berryjam mixture (including 1/3 of the juices), then 1/3 of the cream. Alternate, ending with the cream cheese mixture on top; for the last layer of cream, leave a 1-inch border around the edge showing the fruit beneath. Garnish with the reserved whole berries and a fresh mint spring if using. Refrigerate for at least 8 hours, or overnight, before serving. This is such a beautiful dessert and perfect for summer get-togethers with family and friends. My daughters love making this with me! It’s simple, colorful, and oh so tasty!

ost of us don't stop to consider it but our lives are "walking billboards" for God if we call ourselves Christ followers. How we conduct ourselves, especially when out in public, is a testimony as to how close a walk we actually have with Him.

"Look carefully then how you walk! Live purposefully and worthily and accurately, not as the unwise and witless, but as wise” (sensible, intelligent people) (Eph. 5:15). Do I walk daily as one who is showing the love of God to others, especially in how I speak to or treat them? Do I try to reach out to a stranger in need? Am I available to a neighbor that might need a listening ear or a meal cooked? I know many who are not Christ followers who are probably watching my every move. Yes, I fail at times. But, still I "press on" to do my best at whatever I feel I've been called to. "And this is love; that we walk in obedience to his commands. As you have heard from the beginning, his command is that you walk in love" (2 John 6). There are some days my "billboard life" might not be as pretty as others. Possibly I'm dealing with an issue and trying to work through it with the help of the Holy Spirit. But then the day comes when things are back on track, looking up, and I feel ready to tackle whatever comes along.

I might not have a "fancy" billboard life but I pray that my "simple, but God-loving" walk is something to catch someone's notice and they might want just a tiny bit of what I have. I long to be able to give God glory for all that my life has been and will continue to be. For Him.

Sharing Freedom:

We Must Help Others Live a Life of Freedom

Right now, in my sphere of influence, there is a newborn

Not one of these people is independent. But are they free? The same dictionary defines “free” as: 1. Enjoying personal rights or liberty, as one who is not in slavery or confinement. The Bible tells us true freedom comes from Jesus Christ, the freedom from sin.

I value my independence, both as an individual and as a

How Often Do You Really Need to Excercise Each Week? e live in an “instant” society. From instant coffee and instant oatmeal to drive thru tellers, we don’t like to have to wait. So I guess we shouldn’t be surprised that so much of the latest offerings for exercise programs pick up the same theme: Eight Minutes in the Morning was a good book. Body By Science says you can get all the exercise you need in one 12-minute session a week. My boss and I looked at a workout gadget that promised all the health benefits exercise could deliver in just 4-minutes a workout! Now we are getting a bit carried away! Will anybody from Madison Avenue dare to raise their voice and tell people the truth? Your body is begging you for daily exercise! But I Thought 3 Days a Week Was Enough It’s true that our country’s most respected health, fitness, and medical organizations have adopted a similar refrain to the publishers of health books—that less is more, train don’t strain, any exercise is better than nothing type of thinking. From a public policy point of view it is understandable. So few people are exercising as it is. We now know that just getting off the couch and starting a regular routine is where the biggest jump in improvement can be found, so why risk an even larger dropout rate by saying that people have to work harder? Nevertheless, these scaled back recommendations don’t change the truth: You should get some exercise every day because it is good for you!

Swimming against the Tide If the notion of everyday exercise seems crazy, recognize that the process of everyday decay from aging is also as relentless as

the tide. If you don’t stimulate your body regularly with exercise, giving it the signals

to overcome this decay process and build fitter, stronger cells you will go downhill much faster. It is not exercising regularly that is crazy. Doing something about it is sane! You don’t even have to think about it as exercise. Consider it as sending a constant “grow” message to your cells to overcome the decay process. You are sending a message of health and development to your body in the only language your muscle cells and bones understand. Movement. Action Points No matter who you are, or what your calling in life, you will need good physical health and conditioning to see it through to the end. The person shooting needs to know what is in front of them and what is beyond bullet impact before they even lift the gun to aim. There is no other option. COAS offers firearms for such as birthdays, graduations, increasing demand for specialty services in the small arms market that very few were accommodating, especially in the southeast. Mr. Baker decided to reach out to George Willis, an industry partner and US Military Veteran, to combine their years of knowledge and resources to make COAS a reality. With Gail’s business affiliation, knowledge, and corporate experience, she joined the team as one of the principal partners shortly after. Together this team is able to create a smooth and exciting one-of-a-kind experience for their customers.

’m not sure how an earworm (you know, songs that become stuck in your head) gets hatched. Perhaps it is a particular rhythm in someone’s speech pattern, maybe the inflection in a person’s voice, or maybe just as simple as actually hearing the song; but somehow, in the middle of April, I had a Christmas earworm pop into my head. It’s from that movie “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town”, and it’s the tune “Put One Foot in Front of the Other”. (If you suddenly find yourself humming or singing it, you’re welcome and I’m sorry.) I hope you will take time to look up the lyrics, as you may glean something different that speaks to you more intimately. So much of the Christian walk can be summed up by those words, “put one foot in front of the other.” To help those in need we must put one foot in front of the other, to witness to others we must put one foot in front of the other, and to spread the word of God we must put one foot in front of the other. The chorus of the song is: “Put one foot in front of the other, and soon you’ll be walking ‘cross the floor.” After the sermons on Sundays as we walk across the sanctuary floor, do we greet any visitors? Do we check on those that have returned from vacations or illnesses? The lyrics continue, “Put one foot in front of the other, and soon you’ll be walking out the door.” Before we walk right out the doors of our church, do we immerse ourselves in worship and speak with God so that we are equipped to be disciples for Christ, or do we daydream about our plans for the rest of the afternoon, or worry about tomorrow? Sometimes the hardest part of putting one foot in

front of the other is just getting the strength to stand up and start moving. But God will give us the strength to move, Christ will light the path, and the Holy Spirit will guide our feet. One verse in the song reads, “You never get where you’re going if you never get up on your feet, Come on there’s a good tail wind blowing, a fast walking man is hard to beat.” Do you know where you’re going to (uh oh, may have just traded earworms)? If so, put one foot in front of the other and get moving. When we’re not sure where to go, or if we want to change the direction we’re going, we should put one prayer on top of another and ask for God’s guidance, turn to the pages of the Bible and read what God has to say to us, and put both eyes on the cross and follow Jesus. Jesus knows how to get us where we need to be, we just have to put one foot in front of the other, and follow Him.

7 Common Forms of Dementia lzheimer’s is by far the most common type of dementia. It accounts for nearly threefourths of all dementia diagnoses in this country. An estimated 5 million people have Alzheimer’s disease, and the numbers continue to climb. Alzheimer’s is now the sixth leading cause of death in the United States. While Alzheimer’s is the most prevalent form of dementia, there are different types. Many of these can be just as life altering. They range from Vascular dementia to Dementia with Lewy Bodies. Less Common Forms of Dementia 1. Vascular dementia: This form of dementia occurs when blood flow to the brain is interrupted. Often it is a stroke that causes vascular dementia. Impaired judgment is usually the first symptom loved ones notice. There are varying degrees of severity related to the amount of damage caused to brain cells. 2. Dementia with Lewy Bodies (DLB): Lewy bodies are protein clumps that form in the cortex of the brain that lead to dementia. Early signs of DLB include sleep problems, falls, balance issues, hallucinations, and uncontrolled movement. One thing to note is that some people who have Alzheimer’s disease also have DLB. 3. Parkinson's dementia: As Parkinson’s disease progresses, it often creates dementia. An estimated 50–80% of people with Parkinson’s will end up being diagnosed with dementia, too. Researchers think this is due to deterioration of the nerve cells in the brain. Memory loss, mood changes, depression, speech problems, paranoia, and delusions are all symptoms of Parkinson’s dementia. 4. Frontotemporal dementia (FTD): The most common early signs of FTD are a change in personality and difficulty with verbal communication. The diagnosis of FTD sometimes takes a while because the disease impacts people at a younger age than Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. Health care providers may struggle to reach a diagnosis.

5. Huntington's disease: This brain disorder usually occurs in adults between the ages of 30 and 50, but it can develop at any age. Common symptoms of Huntington’s disease include cognitive decline, as well as loss of control of the arms, legs, and face. 6. Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus: When fluid builds up in the brain, it can cause a type of dementia known as Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus. Loss of bladder control is a distinguishing trait of the disease. Other common symptoms include memory loss, falls, and balance problems. 7. Mixed dementia: An increasing number of dementia experts believe that when a person has dementia, they likely have more than one form of it. This condition is referred to as Mixed dementia. Alzheimer’s disease and Vascular dementia is the most common combination. Because dementia can present unique safety concerns for families, many turn to memory care communities for support. aiting is one of the most difficult things to do. Remember what it was like waiting for Christmas or your birthday as a child? It seemingly took forever to get here and was practically painful as the calendar days slowly passed. What about waiting for graduation from high school or college? We’re trucking through life and wishing the days to fly, but are we embracing the waiting seasons? I ask that question of myself periodically because I’ve stood before groups of various sizes and flat out stated that waiting stinks. What if we were to look at it like we do the season of Advent? There’s great anticipation of the coming of Jesus and the salvation he brings! It’s even more exciting to think about His return for us! When we lament through the dreary days instead of allowing our focus being on what God wants us to learn and even teach others through, we are losing a grasp of joy and freedom freely given to us. It’s not easy or always fun, but it’s worth it because He is in the waiting. Scripture even tells us to wait. “Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him” (Psalm 37:7). Oh and Romans 8:25 says, “But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.” Does that convict you like it does me? Ouch. To give you an example, I just knew years back that I was called to missions. While in serving on a (phenomenal) team in Russia in 2014, something was stirred and awakened that

God put inside of me before birth. After going through the process of applying with a missions’ organization, having many interviews, and being told it was all but going official, the door was abruptly shut. My heart was shattered and in that, I was left feeling rejected. Had I not heard from God? Was this not my purpose? Fast forward a year and I had started praying with employees who God led me to that were going through various life events (marriage, divorce, birth, death, illness, etc) and one brought me flowers as a way to thank me. My boss said to me, "Jenny, this is your mission field." That obedience was one God called me to because if I was willing to "go" for God, I had to also be willing to "stay." What does this mean for us? Waiting is hard but God is in the waiting. Waiting for marriage, healing, a job, a child, and even a birthday can be a good thing. Again, it’s not easy or necessarily pretty, but it’s worth it. God uses that to refine us to look more like Him and to have our character reflect His. Y’all, we have the honor of being molded to the image of our Savior. That makes waiting worth it; He’s in the waiting.

Dear Children's Church Volunteer by Chris Mullis

When I was 8-years-old, you helped lead children's church where my family worshiped. I’m sorry I don’t remember your name. I was just a kid then and I only attended for a few years, but I remember going to children’s church. I didn’t know the other kids, but you had a friendly smile that made me feel welcome. I’m glad you shared your joy for the Lord. It probably wasn’t easy to keep all the kids under control, because we didn’t always want to be there, but you did your best to help us have fun and learn something. We sang songs like: “Father Abraham” and “Do Lord” and “The Lord’s Army.” Then, we would listen to a Bible story. One Sunday, you told us how Jesus came to save us from our sins so we could live with him in heaven. You said we needed to let Jesus into our hearts. I believed in Jesus and I knew I was a sinner who needed to be saved, but I was too shy to say anything. So I didn’t. You didn’t give up though. You invited the kids to ask Jesus into their heart every Sunday. You would sing the old invitational songs like "Just as I Am" and "Earnestly, Tenderly, Jesus is Calling". I felt Jesus calling to me while you were singing. There was just something about your tenor voice and the way you seemed transported as you sang, “Come home! Come home! Ye who are weary, come home! Earnestly tenderly, Jesus is calling. Calling, oh sinner, come home!” Even as a kid, I could feel it. I knew Jesus was calling. It took three weeks for this shy 8-year-old to get up the nerve, but I finally answered Jesus’s invitation to come home. I walked to the front of

the chapel while you sang and someone prayed with me to receive Christ. I became a Christian that day and I’ve known ever since that one day I will be with Jesus in heaven. Thank you for the part you played in my salvation. You changed the course of my life. I try to live my life for Jesus every day. My faith in Christ carried me through some rough years as a teenager and the struggles of young adulthood. He has been with me as a parent and preacher and has helped me lead my congregation. Jesus leads me through it all and has never let me down. So, thank you. Thank you for giving yourself to the kids who attended children’s church. There’s no telling how many eternities you altered, but I’m so glad you altered mine. I hope you’re doing well and will always be willing to invite someone to church or just pray with them or tell them or show them God's love. salms 103 begins with some of the most famous verses, written by David that exalts the Lord. “Bless the LORD, O my soul; and all that is within me, bless his holy name. Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits.” While these verses, along with every verse in the Bible, are sacred and precious, many times we stop after verse 2 or 3. Some of the most humbling verses throughout this chapter are not just the first couple. If you read down to verses 11 and 12, it shows us how the Lord has “removed our transgressions from us as far as the east is from the west”. Anyone that has been saved and born again by the blood of the Lamb needs to keep these verses close to their hearts. These verses are here to show us that it is okay to slip up and make mistakes, but it does not warrant us to continue in the sins we commit. All of our sins can be removed just as far as the east is from the west because of the blood atonement that was shed on the cruel cross of Calvary. If we continue in the same sins over and over, then we are taking the sacrifice of Jesus Christ for granted. 2 Corinthians 5:21 says “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him”. While we need to try to live a holy life, (1 Peter 1:15 says, “Be ye holy; for I am holy”), the Lord understands that there will be times that we slip because we are wrapped up in the flesh. If you continue reading throughout Psalms 103, in verse 14, it says “For he knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust”. No one living in the flesh, can live a perfect life. We should strive for perfection, but it is essentially impossible. I believe the Lord knows and understands when we slip, as long as we try to make things right and repent. Throughout much of David’s life, he was backslid. Just as the Bible says, David was a man after God’s own heart (Acts 13:22), but the only way he could keep yearning for the Lord was to repent. David knew that the Lord remembered that he was wrapped in flesh, but David did not take that for granted. David would not have been a man after God’s own heart without repentance. The Lord does remember our frame, but even with that precious promise, we cannot take that promise for granted.

Others of us may still be waiting to hear that call. Hamilton Hospice is calling! Hamilton Hospice, a service of Hamilton Medical Center, passionately serves the terminally ill in our community by supporting patients and families as they confront the end of life. We focus on ensuring that patients are comfortable and families and caregivers know that help is a phone call away. Hospice focuses on the quality of life remaining and emphasizes that even as life is coming to a close, there is incredible opportunity to honor and celebrate the life remaining. The Hamilton Hospice team works together to achieve the goal of providing comfort and support to our patients, but we need the help of community volunteers. Hamilton Hospice volunteers are valued members of our healthcare team, and we would not be able to provide the excellent care we do without them. Each volunteer provides time, love, and compassion to our team, our patients, and their families through a variety of services. Some of the valuable things Hamilton Hospice volunteers can do include clerical assistance with filing, mailing, and data input in our office, bereavement support, whether by making phone calls or assisting with mailings or memorial services, patient and caregiver contact and companionship that may take the form of making friendly visits with patients, sitting with patients so that caregivers can have a much needed respite, reading, sharing hobbies, scrapbooking, and running errands.
