My Anchor Holds

Today, a particular song comes to my mind. It’s called “The Anchor Holds,” written by Ray Boltz. “The anchor holds though the ship is battered The anchor holds though the sails are torn. I have fallen on my knees as I faced the raging seas. The anchor holds in spite of the storm.”

For many years, I sailed on life’s seas, not knowing where I was going or even why I was going in that direction. Many of you have as well, and you can relate to the same story.

James 1:6: “But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.”

The wavering of the sea driven by the wind and tossed around by the waves of this life can be a hard struggle. One moment, the seas of life would be as smooth as a shiny, small stone in a pond, and the next moment, those waves would be over my head. The waves made it so hard that I lost control and began to sink into the sands.

Yes, I’ve had some who have tried to explain the Master of their own destiny by comparing it to the circumstances that I have had. There is a lot of truth to that sometimes, but we can always have control over the storm that passes our way by letting Jesus into our hearts.

We can eat the right foods, but we may still get sick. We can exercise and still be unhealthy. We try to do everything right, but life gives us a bad turn.

I had a life-changing experience and went through a huge storm in 2010. It was hard when a doctor told me, “You have cancer.” And that you have a 10% chance of recovering from surgery but then going through radiation as well. I thought, “Surely, this storm would be what would take me out.”

But God had another plan for me.

Because I’m still here 10 years later, I give Him all the thanks for that and my church family’s praying. Most people are just drifting through life without knowing that they can always lean on God for His grace and mercy. He will show up on the scene and give you the faith that you need, just as He does every day.

Matthew 17:20: “And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.”

Fear doesn’t stand a chance when you stand in His love. You have to remember that there is an anchor in His hand that is given to you freely and has sweet peace above all understanding, and best of all, it’s free of charge. I’m glad to know that I found my Anchor in life’s quest. Jesus is our safe place in the time of any storm in our lives. “But it was in the night Through the storms of my life Oh, that’s where God proved His love to me.”

He will do the same for you. God bless you.
