THE POWER OF GOD CAME THROUGH REGARDLESS OF T H E S I T UAT I O N PAULE TTE 'S TE S TIMON Y In October 2018, I was feeling weak due to the loss of blood. One day, I could hardly move so I decided to go to the doctor. Once I got to the hospital, the medical staff did some blood tests and realised that my hemoglobin was as low as 18; they were shocked I was still alive. The doctor asked me to call my family, he said I would not make it through the night, but my spirit was alive and I knew I would make it through the night, so I did not call anyone. After 4 days in ICU at Jean Talon Hospital, I was transferred to a different ward where they did many tests on me. One day, I got a high fever and was hallucinating, and the ICU doctor decided to transfer me to Sacré Coeur Hospital to receive appropriate care. As soon as I got to Sacré Coeur Hospital in the early evening, they sent me for another test. The next morning as the doctors gathered in ICU, I heard one doctor shout “Oh no, no, with all what she’s already had, not this. She is so unlucky”. Somehow I do not consider myself unlucky but I knew they were talking about me. A few minutes after, there were 3 or 4 doctors at the foot of my bed and one of them said: “We just discovered that you also you have Appendicitis”. I kept my peace for I know my God is faithful. Every morning different doctors came to visit me and one of the doctors asked me “Do you have any pain?” and the answer was always the same “No”. I think he was puzzled by the fact I have a large fibroid, ovarian cyst, appendicitis and other ailments but I have absolutely no pain. I know it is the pure mercies and faithfulness of God that kept me free from pain. I am so grateful to Him. I was scheduled to have surgery, and just before the surgery, the cardiologist thought there was something wrong with my heart, so she postponed the surgery and ordered more tests for my heart. The heart test result came back. My heart was in good condition and the doctor agreed to go ahead with the surgery. Due to the weakness in my body, the doctors finally agreed to have both fibroid and appendix operations at the same time. One surgeon came to my bed and said: “We will operate but it’s a very risky operation and there is a slight chance you might have cancer”. With boldness I looked at the doctor and said: “In this body, there is no cancer in Jesus name”. I think she was surprised by my boldness, but she did not say anything.

2

Both surgeries (for the appendix and fibroid) were successful even though there was a slight cut on the bladder which they repaired. I knew God would bring me through. And the result of the pathology test performed was negative, there was no trace of cancer. Praise God! After I was discharged, I had a follow-up with the doctor in November. The doctor listed everything that had been wrong with me: 1. Haemorrhage 2. Severe anemia 3. Large Fibroid 4. Large Ovarian Cyst 5. Blood Clots in the lung 6. Caught a bacteria at Jean Talon Hospital 7. Appendicitis 8. Hemoglobin (the lowest ever seen or humanly capable of surviving)

9. Thyroid

The doctor looked at me seriously and said: “You were a very sick lady, when I look at the paper and I look at you, it cannot be the same person.”. “I cannot believe you are walking and healthy, you are very lucky to be alive”. I said: “No, it is God’s doing, He did the miracle”. She told me I was a strong woman and I replied that it was all God. Praise God everything is clear, my hemoglobin went back to normal in no time and I am no longer anemic, nor do I need iron pills. The blood clots in the lung cleared, and my thyroid is normal. I will just do a follow up test after the New Year. I know God does not do things halfway, all my other results were clear and I know this other test will also be clear. All is well, Praise God. After just one month I was out and about, even when the doctors said there is no hope, His faithfulness came through and the doctors are amazed. I Praise God for all He has done for me; showing me His great love, mercies and faithfulness. I also want to Praise God for the family of God, my church and friends who prayed and supported me during this difficult time. All glory be to God! Paulette Richard

G O D ST IL L H E AL S, H E ST IL L D E L IVE R S AND H E MAK ES A WAY W H ER E T H E R E IS NO WAY !

What a great time to be alive! Our faithful God continues to do great things in us and through us. Our Red Doors home group is a place where people get an opportunity to build relationships and encounter the truth about Jesus. Our home groups take place every Tuesday from the months of September to November & from February to April. Every Red Doors looks a little different, but each is equipped to fulfill a unique purpose, as we strive to make Jesus known to the w or ld around us . In this past season of Red Doors, we have seen the hand of God move in powerful ways! We have seen people experience the Love of God through community, receive financ ial b reak throug h and healing take p lac e.

TE STIMONY :

Sabina, one of our Red Doors host, was in a bad car accident a few months back. She was taken to the hospital because of the severe impact. She was later sent home with ter r ib le up p er b od y p ain, (nec k , ar m and b ac k pain) . One night, at her Red Doors one of our leaders felt impressed to pray for her back. He prayed believing God would heal her back pain, and after finishing to pray for her he asked her to do something she could not do before. She decided to bend down and touch her toes because it was an action she could not do. When she bent down the pain was completely gone! Thank you Lord! Hebrews 13:8 tells us that God is the same yesterday, today and forever! God still heals, He still delivers and He makes a way where there is no way! No matter what your background is, we have a group for you. Join a Red Doors and experience real re l a t i o n s h i p s t h a t w i l l g ro w yo u r f a i t h .

4 . P r o te c t o u r d r e a m s

When we have the impression that we have been waiting for a par tner for far too long, it is tempting to lower our standards, to compromise. It is good to evaluate our list of criteria that may actually need adjustment. But if you are tempted to withdraw your non-negotiable criteria or your essential criteria, you are killing your dreams and your future. Protect your faith, your hope and resist the temptations that the enemy whispers in your ear. Remember, he only wants to d e stroy you !

5 . P r o te c t o u r tho u ghts

We must hold onto our hear t so that it does not get carried away. But we must also protect our thoughts so that we do not accept discouragement. We have difficult y complimenting ourselves, but it is so easy to be harsh on ourselves. We of ten tend to dramatize ever y thing that happens to us, which never leaves us in a positive state. If the thoughts you have are not uplif ting, encouraging, or conform to what God says about you in His Word (Philippians 4:8), it means that these thoughts are probably not from your Heavenly Fa th e r : d o n ot a c c e p t th e m .

6 . P r o te c t o u r c hi l d r e n

Finally, for all those who already have children from a previous relationship, you must consider the well-being of your children in choosing your future par tner. Being an example during your search and during your dating will protect their vision of a couple according to God. Even if you have made mistakes in the past, you can still show them the right way by following God’s precepts yourself.

S H O ULD WE B E PR O - LIFE? Every year, the men in my church have a golf tournament. It is kind of like a boy’s day out where they get to fellowship together, and have a little friendly competition. This past year, however, one of the women of the church asked if she could join in, because she likes to play golf. It sparked a bit of conversation. Should we allow women to participate in the golf day, even though it is a men’s activity? (The women have their own get-togethers as well). This was the first time there had ever been a woman wanting to be a part of the golf day. There has never been any other women who signed up. (There are not any other women in the church who even know how to play golf!) It was an exception. Life is full of exceptions. I am a bit of an exception. (I definitely do not like golf though). My interests set me apart from all the other women at church. I am not the norm. Nevertheless, that is what keeps life interesting. The thing is, to change the entire format of something for one isolated case is probably not the best route. What makes the most se nse is treat each case individually. Ou r world, however, tends to take those unique exceptions, and makes blanket rules because of them. Moreover, it is understandable why. You do not want anyone to feel marginalized or left out or unwanted. Therefore, we tend to elevate the plight of the minority. In some cases, that is not a bad idea. Very often, the minority needs the support of the majority because they are unable to stand up for themselves. That said, what happens when the majority starts taking advantage of the rules put in place because of the minorities? Well then, you get exactly what we are debating right now, and that is abortion. Here is the thing about social media. It gives a voice to people who are not responsible enough to have a vo ice. It makes things worse than they actually are. It offers no accountability for the things we say or post. I live in Canada, and late-term abortion has been legal for a lo ng time. The difference is, there was no picture that ever circulated with people smiling while signing for the bill to pass. I do not think social media makes us smarter. I think it just reveals how ignorant we actu ally are.

Did you know that rape, sexual abuse and incest are real? A disgusting, awful and despicable re a l i t y. I t i s s o m e t h i n g t h a t re q u i re s m u c h m o re c a re , f o c u s , and understanding. I will not even get to the root of it all, which is a combination of being prisoners to sexual desire, lack of respect and honor for women and children, and ultimately the glorification of sex that leads us to believe we cannot live without it. What we are dealing with now is the fallout of the sin that has destroyed our world. I wish we could go back to the beginning and fix the actual problem, instead of trying to put a Band-Aid on an open wo und. However, here we are, faced with the deplorable consequences of generations of sin. When talking about abortion, proponents will usually point to the worst possible scenario to justify their views. They will cite a young girl, raped by her older brother, and as a result, she falls pregnant. How can we possibly expect her to keep the baby? Here is the thing. That is an exception (a terrible one), but an exception nonetheless.

support and sensitivity, and then making a blanket rule that decides you can kill your baby for any re a s o n a t a l l . I want to see a better adoption and foster care system. I want to see more support for single mothers. I want to see financial and social aid. I want to see men held responsible for abandoning a mother and child. But it seems to be a lot easier to just “get rid of the problem”, despite the fact that it ultimately creates more problems, the least of which is the mental and physical effects it has on the woman. This is not about being anti-women. I am about as pro-wom en as you can get. I think the disrespect women are faced with is disgusting. But abortion is not an issu e of women’s rights. If a woman believes she is mature enough to have sex, then she must be prepared to deal with the possible consequences of that decision. This has become a po pular talking point because of news stories, and government decisions, and thus everyone chimes in with an CON T I NU E D O N NE X T PAG E

Those types of cases statistically happen about 1% of the time, but because it triggers such sympathy and disgust, it is just easier to use it as an example. In such a case, I believe there needs to be a lot of care and sensitivity. I believe the church especially must step up to help. I believe there is nothing wrong with having a conversation when it comes to something so painful and difficult. But what about the other 99% of cases? My nephew was born with many health complications. He is six years old, and he cannot walk or talk, or do anything for himself. My sister-in-law was given the option to terminate the pregnancy, because the doctors saw the issues early on. But she said no. It is not easy to care for him, but my brother and sister-in-law would never go back and make a different decision. I understand that may be not everyone is that strong. I understand why health problems can be unnerving. I also understand that there can be health risks for the mother as well. There are many situations that need to be handled gently and with care. This is not easy. No one is pretending that it is. But there is a difference between allowing there to be a conversation, offering

But when He who had set me apart before I was born, and had called me through his grace. (Galatians 5:15)

T EST IM O NY My m o th er wa s mar r ied by a rra ngem ent to m y f a th er and was ver y u nh a ppy ( a t th a t ti m e it was ver y common in Chinese c ulture). When she was pregnant with me (her 5th ch i l d) , sh e wa nted to ab or t me, b ut somehow I was born (in Mauritius). However, as I grew up I always felt unwanted and reject e d b y m y mother, also because I was a girl and growing up as a teenager was ver y challenging. At times I was so miserable and depressed that I wanted to end my life.

Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you. (Jeremiah 1:5) They mutilated their sons and daughters by fire, till the Lord, in His great anger against Israel, put them away out of his sight. (2 Kings 17:17-18) They sacrificed their sons and their daughters to demons, and they shed innocent blood, the blood of their sons and their daughters, wh om they sacrificed to th e idols of Canaan, desecrating the land with bloodshed (Psalm 106:35, 37-38)

At 17 years old, my neighbors invited me to a meeting at an Evangelical Church and af ter I heard th e go spel , I di d th e salvat ion p r ayer a t h o m e, o n m y o wn. (I alread y believed in God at a ver y young age, but I once told Him that He was so distant from me. I used to go to the Catholic Church a nd so m eti m es to the Bud d hist tem pl e wi th m y pa rents .

There are six things which Jehovah hates. Yes, seven which are an abomination unto Him: Haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood. (Proverbs 6) There are many other things that the church needs to speak up on, and that responsibility is on us. We cannot have recency bias, and only decide to talk ab out something because it is the new flavor of the month. I understand abortion is just one issue of many. But when we’re ta lking about the start of a life, it sets itself apart.

I believe God heard my prayer and when I decided to commit my life to th e Lo rd, H e bro u ght p eace, joy and hope. It took a number of years to be healed emotionally but I was to ta l l y set f ree wh en I was in my th i r ti es. Si nce th en I have fait hfully ser ved the Lord with so much gratitude in my hear t, in spite of other battles and tri a l s.

We a re t o l d t h a t w e n e e d t o f i g h t for the rights of all people instead of just focusing on babies, but the thing is that all of them have already been afforded the right to be born.

This is to say that I totally disagree with abor tion because there are probably other people like me, whose life can be a constant turmoil because of their parents' wrong choice. I am v er y gra tef u l th a t G o d l ed me t o G o o d News Ch a pel .

Understand what battle you are fighting. If you think banning abortion will affect your rights as a person, you have been misled. Once we start fighting for the rights of the unborn, human dignity will be elevated as a result. We have to start somewhere. Let’s start by choosing life.
