As for me, I find joy in being thankful throughout the year during the good times and the bad times; this joy has allowed me to not dwell on the things I can not change. istory tells us Thanksgiving Day was traced back to a 1621 feast and thanksgiving between Pilgrims and Indians which was prompted by a good harvest in Plymouth Rock. Thanksgiving proclamations were also made by church and state leaders. In 1789 President, George Washington proclaimed the first nation -wide thanksgiving celebration in America marking November 26, 1789, "as a day of public thanksgiving and prayer to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and signal favours of Almighty God". To date President Donald Trump, will not only issue a proclamation, he will "pardon" a turkey, which spares the bird's life so it will spend the rest of its days roaming freely on farmland. The bible tells us nothing about the holiday of Thanksgiving, but it does say to give thanks to the LORD, for he is good and his love endures forever. Therefore I thank God for the people he has put in my life—my mother, church family and my many dear friends. I am thankful to God for forgiving me when others would not, because of this I can forgive them. I also thank God for giving me another chance to go forward, if it had not been for the Lord on my side only God knows where I would be. We must give thanks in everything; for this is God's will for us in Christ Jesus. As hard as this may be to understand, “in everything” means in both good and bad times—even when we don’t feel like it. Gratefulness comes easy when life is good. But what about when life is not so good, we can choose to turn away from God. But hardening our heart toward Him hinders our ability to deal with suffering—making it difficult to hear His voice and receive comfort or strength. We need to practice the habit of giving thanks even more during the hard times, because through it, God not only transforms our suffering, but He also transforms us. As we celebrate Thanksgiving Day I encourage you to read: Leviticus 7:12-15, Nehemiah 11:17, Psalm 26:7, Psalm 95:2 1 Thessalonians 5:18. Shining Light… Pastor Karla Barnes Bowick is the Senior Pastor of New Beginnings Ministries In Christ, Founder/CEO of W.E.W. (We're Every Woman) Women's Conference, and Founder/Dance Coordinator of God's Anointed Angels Praise Dance Ministry. Pastor Bowick was born on November 22, 1957, at the Clara Frye Hospital, which was known then as the Tampa Negro Hospital. She is the oldest of thirteen children from the late George and Frankie Smith. Pastor Bowick was raised in the Belmont Heights Community which is located in East Tampa and educated in Hillsborough County public schools. Upon receiving her General Educational Development Certificate (GED), she began a career as a Hillsborough County Schools Bus Driver, retiring after 32 years of service. While working as a school bus driver, Pastor Bowick also felt a strong calling to work in the field of ministry, adhering too her calling Pastor Bowick became a student at Life Christian University, where she earned her A.A. in Theology, B.A. in Christian Counseling and M.A. in Pastoral Ministry. From there she further her Christian education at Grace & Truth University and has completed all but her dissertation for her Ph.D. in Pastoral Theology. Being called into ministry at a young age, she loves serving the Lord and has worked in many auxiliaries of the church, including Deaconess, Licensed Minister, Ordained Elder, and Sunday School Superintendent. Presently, Pastor Bowick is adhering to her calling from the Lord. She is Senior Pastor of New Beginnings Ministries In Christ, Inc., Founder/CEO of W.E.W. (We're Every Woman) Women's Conference, and Founder/Dance Coordinator of God's Anointed Angels Praise Dance Ministry.

Nothing else in the Bible, including the doctrine of stewardship, will make any sense or have any true relevance if we miss the fact that God is the Creator and has full rights of ownership. It is through our ability to fully grasp this and imbed it in our hearts that the doctrine of stewardship is understood. From man’s perspective, let us consult the Merriam-Webster Dictionary: : the conducting, supervising, or managing of something; especially : the careful and responsible management of something entrusted to one's care. From the Biblical perspective: “Christian Stewardship recognizes that God’s resources are to be deployed through God’s people to accomplish God’s mission.” For many Christians, the word “stewardship” is synonymous with “giving money.” Although money is included, the Bible paints a much broader picture of stewardship which applies to every area of the Christian life. God has blessed us with friendships, relationships, and even family, all of which we are expected to be responsible stewards. As responsible stewards, we should never separate any part of our life from God; He is the true Owner of all that we possess. It is in God that we live, and move, and have our being (Acts 17:28). Therefore, we should never try to separate God from any part of our life, because without Him, we would have no life!

This book should offer a sense of richness of the Black residents who were a part of the community of Blacks that once lived or still live in the North Boulevard Homes in Tampa, Florida. Several of the persons who lived in North Boulevard were the first to achieve a goal and to gain recognition for that achievement which was is very important as a symbol of hope and a beacon of light for the future. These men and women are living proof that it is possible to have great careers and enjoy the success which provided for them a substantial lifestyle that lead to a comfortable retirement. About the authors.. Dr. Hazel S. Harvey is has been the driving force behind many outstanding people and important events and education in the Tampa community. She was the first to integrate the School system at the instructional and Supervisor Level. Presently she serves as a Commissioner of the Tampa Housing Authority and has served chairperson of the board. Dr. Harvey worked as an adjunct professor at Nova University and the University of South Florida as an intern supervisor. She serves as a Director of ENCORE which is a mixed housing developed. Dr. Maurice R. Harvey Sr. is currently a faculty member with the Donald R. Tapia, School of Business, Graduate Business Studies, at Saint Leo University. In addition, he is presently working with the University of South Florida, Institute on Black Life and the Center for Africa and the Diaspora School of Interdisciplinary Global Studies in capturing the history of Black neighborhoods in Hillsborough County. Deacon Dwight Bolden Deacon Dwight Bolden is a native of Tampa and proud graduate of the original Blake High School class of 1971. Upon graduating, he joined the United States Army. While serving his country, Bolden proudly represented the 193rd Barged Panama Canal Boxing Team. He was an undefeated boxer who held three championship titles at one time; Welter Weight, Middle Welter Weight, and Middle Weight. After a four year stint in the US Army, he became the first African American to pass the Firefighter’s Civil Service exam in Tampa, Florida.
Bolden is a faithful member of Christian Fellowship, located in Tampa, Florida. As a deacon, he enjoys teaching Sunday School, Bible Study and helping his brothers and sisters in Christ in any way he can. Bolden also enjoys witnessing to his family, friends, and fellowman. He states he is on a mission for the Lord, and that mission is to get the unsaved churched and to win souls for Christ. Bolden is also the owner of The Gathering Place, a clothing boutique, located in West Tampa, specializing in African attire and accessories. ###

Premature birth (before 37 weeks of pregnancy) is the largest contributor to infant death in the U.S. and around the world. Babies who survive an early birth often face serious and lifelong health problems, including breathing problems, jaundice, vision loss, cerebral palsy and intellectual delays.
