Shining Light…

Deacon Thaddeus Jenkins Sr.

haddeus Jenkins Sr. is a proud product of the state of Florida, and serves as a Deacon and as the President of the Voices of Power Male Choir at New Salem Missionary Baptist Church, Temple Terrace FL under the leadership of Dr. Henry J. Lyons. Born August 19, 1962, Dea. Jenkins is a proud Tampa native. He is the youngest of six children (Janice, Arizona Jr. Gwendolyn who are deceased; Nancy and Deborah) born to the late Arizona, Sr. and Annie Mae Jenkins (both deceased). As a Tampa native, Dea. Jenkins attended school at St. Peter Claver Catholic School in his primary years and graduated from Jefferson High School. After graduating high school, he furthered his education and his career by attending University of Pittsburgh (UP) located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Bethune-Cookman College now known as Bethune-Cookman University (BCU) located in Daytona Beach, Florida. His college experience not only awarded him an Associate of Business Administration degree, it also awarded him an exciting football career. During his time at UP, Dea. Jenkins played in the Freedom Bowl, Gator Bowl, Sugar Bowl and Cotton Bowl. While at BCU, he had the privilege to compete in the First Mid-Atlantic Coast Conference and the Freedom Bowl. Upon graduating from BCU, he progressed to the next level of football and join the Atlanta Falcons Training Camp. Dea. Jenkins accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior at the tender age of six years old and baptized by the late Rev. T. J. James, Pastor of Mt. Tabor M. B. Church. After the passing of Rev. James, Dea. Jenkins continued to serve at his home church as a Male Usher and a member of the Culinary Ministry under the leadership of Rev. T. D. Leonard. As life progressed and the seasons changed, Dea. Jenkins chartered a new path in his spiritual walk; he and his family joined New Salem M. B. Church formally located in Hyde Park under the leadership of Dr. Henry J. Lyons. Upon joining New Salem Dea. Jenkins began doing what he knows best and that is serving as a good steward and as a leader in full armor. Because of his good works, he was ordained as a Deacon in 2004 and later served as Chairman of Trustees and a member of the Culinary Ministry. Although best known for being a talented and gifted football athletic and coach. Dea. Jenkins has a loving heart and a desire to reach, teach and mentor children of all ages. His mission is best accurately described in Matthew 4:19 “And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” As he follows Christ, he adheres to his life’s mission, which is “Keeping kids in tow and making sure they get a second chance in life.” His career path is also in line with his mission he currently works as a Career Service Coordinator for “Eckerd Project Bridge Program Hillsborough County Circuit 13.” When asked what inspires and motivates him his immediate response was the support he received from his late father Arizona Sr., his high school football line coach, Dea. Sanford Ross and the NFL Hall of Famer, Larry Little. Dea. Jenkins is a devoted loving husband of Alphanette for 28 years and loving dad to Tiffany, DeMario, DeAndra, Keyonna, Thaddeus Jr. (TAJ), Chad and Madison. Some of his favorites are… scripture “Psalm 23”; hymn “Guide me, O Thou great Jehovah by William Williams; fishing, singing; coaching football and style & fashion. Dea. Jenkins states he will continue to be a fisher of men one child at a time.

Backsliding The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways: and a good man shall be satisfied from himself. Proverbs 14:14

A Fresh Start is: An opportunity to start over without prejudice. The beginning of a new period or step.

Scriptures for a Fresh Start: 2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! NIV Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. KJ Isaiah 43:18-19 Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert. KJ 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. NIV James 5:16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. KJ

Backsliding is the act of forsaking the name of God and turning away from the voice of God. After the conversersion of man, the backslider forsake and turn from the word of God (the Bible) and the work of God (salvation) and the way of God (the cross-Jesus Christ) John 14:6 Jesus saith, I am the way, the truth and the life, no man cometh unto the father but by me. Backsliding is a sin which separates the backslider from the blessings of the Lord God. Therefore when the backslider confesses his faults and repent of his sins that he hath sinneth, then will God forgive and restore back to the confessor the repenter and the backslider a true relationship between God and man.

When the God of God is forsaken the love of God is not in the heart of the backslider. For God is love 1 John 4:8 for in old times it was written that man's own wickedness would correct him and his backsliding would reprove him. When man has forsaken God the fear of God is not within his heart. Backsliding was among the children of Israel. Israel forgot God according to Hosea 8:14. Backsliders should be aware not to forget the Lord God is keeping his commandments and his judgments and his statues. 2 Peter 2:21 for it hath been better than for them not to have known the way of righteousness for after they have turned from the holy command delivered unto them. Man's backsliding are many and some of the causes are: 1. Spiritual blindness 2nd Peter 1:9 2. Prosecution Matthew 13:20,21 3. Love of money 1Timothy 1:10 4. Seeking pagans-Idol gods 1John 5:21 and other material things. Even so at this present time the backslider they shall eat of the fruit of their own way and be filled with their own devices. Proverbs 1:31

Our scripture tells us that NOW Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen; and without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. Hebrews 11:1-6 About a year ago, I created a Faith Statement, several empowering scriptures from the word of God into a prayer to declare God as a partner in my Tracy Melendez labour. An abbreviated portion of my Faith Statement is as follows: Dear God, in all my ways I acknowledge you as the author and finisher of my faith; apart from you I'm nothing. I declare that I am blessed going out and blessed coming in, that greater is He that's in me than he who is in the world, that no weapon formed against me shall prosper and I am more than a conquorer. In creating your own Faith Statement, make it personal, as the word of God leaps from the pages of your Bible, hide it in your heart, speak it with authority, release it into the atmosphere and Encourage Yourself. For God is a rewarder to those who diligently seek Him...seek Him while He may be found and receive your reward. .

Getting vaccinated according to the recommended immunization schedule is one of the most important things a parent can do to protect their child’s health. Diseases can quickly spread among groups of children who aren’t vaccinated. Children in these settings can easily spread illnesses to one another due to poor hand washing, not covering their coughs, and other factors such as interacting in crowded environments. When children are not vaccinated, they are at increased risk for disease and can spread disease to others in their play groups, child care centers, classrooms and communities – including babies who are too young to be fully vaccinated and people with weakened immune systems due to cancer and other health conditions. Additionally, states may require children who are entering childcare or school to be vaccinated against certain diseases. Colleges and universities may have their own requirements, especially for students living in a dormitory.
