Spring is in the air and it feels so good! Spring is one of my favorite seasons. It is the official release from the cold winter months and it’s our chance to take advantage of the opportunity to sow and grow seeds of love and seeds of success. Let us take a moment to reflect back to where we were on last year during this season, now ask yourself if you are happy in this place? If the answer is no, I challenge you to start over and become a new creature in Christ at this very moment. Renewing ourselves in Christ is our opportunity to forget the things of the past and become new in Him. That’s deep! As I reflect back on spring I’m also in remembrance of my father-in-law, Mr. Leslie “Les” Edwards who passed away on April 4, 2013 and my grandmother, Mother Rosa Bell Clary who passed away on April 23, 2013. Although they are not here on earth, they are with our entire family in our hearts and minds. We love them and miss them greatly. Lastly, it is my pleasure to share with you the handsome man on the cover. I’ll start by saying who he is to me… he is the sparkle in my eye, he is my calm after the storm, he is a man of standard, he is the red in hot, he is the voice of reason, he is my best friend, he is the father of our three children and the Best Dad in the World. He is my husband Isaac N. Edwards.

Shining Light…

Isaac N. Edwards saac N. Edwards is the son of Leslie “Les” and Cislyn and a native of Jamaica, West Indies. Isaac moved to Rochester, NY at an early age and later moved to Tampa, FL. Upon settling in Tampa, Isaac attended Middleton Middle School and Jefferson High School.

Although a student, his father Les who was the prestigious and no none sense owner of Edwards Masonry, a masonry construction company that provided work for many men in the community and Edwards Grocery, a family owned and operated convenience store specializing in Caribbean products; began teaching him hard work ethics, best practices and leadership skills.

Having been born a natural leader, Isaac quickly mastered his father’s teachings and took full flight in the family’s business upon graduating high school. After years of laboring in the family business and the passing of his dad, Isaac is now one of the co-owners of Edwards’ Grocery. Like his father, Isaac has established a long-standing rapport with the citizens of the community and he is liked and well respected by everyone. Because of this, he has been given the nickname “Brigadier General” due to his ability to lead and take charge of any situation that may occur during the course of the day. Isaac is also the man behind the scenes at LEE Inc., Church Bulletin. He takes pride in getting the jobs done and providing quality and affordable printed and published material. In addition to ordered products, Isaac also takes pride in publishing the Church Bulletin. As a husband, father and the head of his household, Isaac frequently gives his first and his last of just about everything in efforts to provide for his family. Knowing the importance of training a child in the way he should go, he has instilled the same hard work ethics, best practices and leadership skills into his children and is now witnessing his teachings in action. His son Samuel is attending Albany State University, GA on a full football scholarship. His son Isaac Jr. was accepted at Florida Atlantic University, Boca Raton, FL in 2012 on a full football scholarship and is now slated to graduate in 2016. His daughter Cislyn is a junior at The University of Tampa, Tampa, FL, there she is studying to become a journalist. In addition, his youngest son Joshua is a junior at Steinbrenner High School, Lutz, FL with his mind on college readiness and his eye on the prize, which is, entering the college or university of his choosing on a full football scholarship. Although Isaac credits his upbringing as an integral part of his children’s pathways in life, he knows he could not have done this great work alone, he honors his wife Linda for not only being a loving, beautiful and fabulous wife and mother… on the inside and out; he honors her for being the helpmate God hand selected for him. Their union has stayed strong for 26 years because they have chosen to serve the Lord. Isaac enjoys spending quality family time with his wife and children. When at home relaxing, he is often found on the sofa watching television and conveniently being used as the best pillow ever while eating fresh fruits, fresh vegetables and ice cream. He also enjoys taking his family to the beach, attending track meets, football games, fishing, walking and bike riding.

Jesus Christ Jesus Christ Is: The central figure of Christianity, whom the teachings of most Christian denominations hold to be the Son of God. Christians believe Jesus is the awaited Messiah (or Christ, the Anointed One) of the Old Testament. The Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last. The Son of God, Son of David. Jesus Christ Scriptures: Mark 12 35:37, And Jesus answered and said, while he taught in the temple, How say the scribes that Christ is the Son of David?, 36For David himself said by the Holy Ghost, The LORD said to my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool., 37David therefore himself calleth him Lord; and whence is he then his son? And the common people heard him gladly. 1 Corinthians 2:16, 16For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ. 1 Thessalonians 5, In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. Philippians 2:9, 9For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, 10so that at the name of Jesus EVERY KNEE WILL BOW, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Genesis 3:15 Jesus Christ, having been made known through the holy scriptures in the old and new testament. Herein in reveals God’s plans to defeat Satan and bring salvation to the world with his only begotten son Jesus Christ. God gave divine announcements concerning the birth of Jesus Christ, which was spoken, of the word, by the prophet Isaiah 7:14 saying ‘Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Im-man-u-el”… which means God with us. Have you not read that there are approximately about 117 scriptural names written in the Holy Bible describing Jesus Christ? Isaiah 9:6 describes unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counscellor, The mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Price of Peace. Written here are just a few of the birth named that was given to the son of God. Jesus Christ was given many other names beginning from A to W. Adam (the last Adam) 1 Corn. 15:46, the first Adam was made a living soul, the second Adam a quickening spirit, the word John 1:1, “In the beginning was the word, the word was with God, and the word was God. The Word of God.” Rev. 9:13 “And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood and his name is called The Word of God.” According to scripture the virgin birth of Jesus Christ was to reveal himself to mankind fulfill prophecy, sacrifice for mankind sins, reconcile man of God, destroy the devil and his evil works, heal the broken-hearted, give abundant life and to glorify in Isaiah 45:7 “I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things.” Jesus was truthfully in the beginning. Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary of whom was Jesus born was called Christ, for that which was conceived of Mary was of the Holy Ghost. Therefore I give you to understand that no man speaking by the Spirit of God called Jesus accursed and that no man Jesus is the but by the Holy Ghost. All the nations and all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God. “And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet

I do receive a gratuity for playing during the morning services, but is it wrong for me to expect compensation for these other outside activities? Debra: That depends. If you are being given a love offering for your service rather than an agreed upon salary via a contract; then you have every right to use your time however you see fit. If you are being paid a salary, then it will depend on the specifics of the contract you have with the church. Don’t be afraid to voice your concerns and your expectations for your time and services. National Minority Health Month 2016 is Accelerating Health Equity for the Nation Did you know that your zip code can be a predictor of your health? So can your place of birth, where you work and play, your income and education, and a host of other factors – in addition to the choices you make each day about what to eat, when to work out and whether or not to see a doctor. These factors, recognized by public health professionals as “social determinants of health,” are linked to inequities in health and health care (health disparities) among racial and ethnic minorities in America. During National Minority Health Month each April, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Office of Minority Health (OMH) leads the nation in raising awareness about health disparities, their causes and the impact they have on minorit y communities and on the nation as whole. The theme of this year’s National Minority Health Month observance – Accelerating Health Equity for the Nation – reflects both a sense of urgency and a sense of determination in moving the country forward toward achie ving health equity. This year, as OMH celebrates its 30th anniversary, a renewed effort is underway with public and private sector partners and s takeholders to accelerate health equity for the nation through the development of research, policies, programs and legislation.
