Shining Light…
Pastor Charlie Lewis For Pastor Charlie Lewis, life is an adventure with God providing surprises along the way. Charlie grew up on St. Simons Island, GA where he spent many days playing, baseball, football, or basketball and throwing frisbees on the beach. Then a love for Jesus caught him. This love strengthened him when he spent his eighth grade year rehabilitating from surgery on his knee after a football injury than ended his dreams of sports greatness. Jesus’ love also sustained him during his college days when he faced the disappointment of a short and failed marriage. After graduating from the University of Georgia (Go Dawgs) he worked in Atlanta. In 1989, he moved to Jacksonville, Florida to be near his daughter, Jessica, and to start a banking career.
After completing a Master’s in Business Administration at the University of North Florida, he accepted a transfer to Orlando in 1992. While in Orlando, he met a Florida born, Swedish bred, school teacher named Coco. Even more than her athletic ability and natural blonde hair, he admired her energetic Christian walk. He closed the biggest deal of his career on June 7, 1997 when they married. Later that year God opened doors for Charlie to change careers. With Coco’s encouragement Charlie pursued studies at Reformed Theological Seminary. After graduating from seminary in 2000 he and Coco moved to Melbourne Beach, FL where he was ordained as an Associate Reformed Presbyterian Minister. At Chapel by the Sea he served as an Associate Pastor and Youth Pastor. There he hung out with people 20 years older who began shaping him into a pastor and with youth 20 years younger who honed his skills of listening and playing video games. With the move to Melbourne Beach they hoped to have children. Several years passed and they wondered if having children was in God’s plan for them. Then through adoption God answered their prayers with Trent who was born in 2002. Then God’s gracious provision answered their prayers further. Coco birthed three children, Emma, Chas and Jedidiah. The next addition is planned for next year as his daughter Jessica and her husband Nick are expecting the first grandchild. While working at Chapel by the Sea and attending denominational meetings, Charlie heard reports of a need for ministers willing to start new churches. After much prayer, and seeking counsel from family and friends, Charlie sensed the Lord leading him to plant a church in South Shore (Apollo Beach / Ruskin) called Christ Community Church. They moved to the area not knowing anyone but moving forward remembering a saying from the famous missionary William Carey "Expect great things from God. Attempt great things for God." God has been and continues to be faithful as Christ Community Church began worship services in September 2007 and has grown every year. The church is connecting people in this growing South Shore community with each other and with Christ and daily seeking to fulfill their motto which is “Together Serving Jesus”. The church now meets at the Kids R Kids Learning Academy in Gibsonton, FL. Their Worship Service time is Sunday mornings at 10:00 am.

Meekness
But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness. 1 Timothy 6:11 Meekness Is: A possible attribute of human nature and behavior. It has been defined several ways: righteous, humble, teachable, and patient under suffering, long suffering, willing to follow gospel teachings; an attribute of a true disciple. The fact or condition of being meek; submissiveness. humbly patient or docile, as under provocation from others. Meekness Scriptures:
Colossians 3:12, Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering;
2 Corinthians 10:1, Now I Paul myself beseech you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ, who in presence am base among you, but being absent am bold toward you:
James 3:13, Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom.

Meekness is a must. It is more than, mere gentleness of manner. When a person who is mild mannered within himself expresses a desired gentle and humble spirit. Inward meekness and graciousness is not the manner of one’s behavior but the condition of one’s mind and heart. Meekness is an appealing quality and remarkable temperament that refreshes others, and combines pleasantness with power. For the Lord taketh pleasure in his people: he will beautify the meek with salvation Psalms 149:4 Reading God’s holy word daily helps to take a fresh look at self. Meekness, in the ancient of days, some people of God must have been accustomed to speaking harshly and acting unkindly toward others, but true people of God today, are to be kind and forgive others, following the divine example of Jesus Christ. Meekness, the truth according to scriptures. Numbers 12:3, (Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were upon the face of the earth.) and Matthew, 11:29, Jesus said, take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. The spirit of meekness is not always easy to maintain. The erring one’s are most acceptable to follow sound doctrine. Dedicated Christians should cultivate the fruit of God’s spirit. Meek servants of the Lord must not strive: but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient, In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves: if God peradventure will give them repentance to the knowledge of the truth. January is Cervical Cancer Awareness Month Worldwide, cervical cancer is the third most common type of cancer in women. It is much less common in the United States because of the routine use of Pap smears. Cervical cancers start in the cells on the surface of the cervix. There are two types of cells on the cervix's surface: squamous and columnar. Most cervical cancers are from squamous cells. Cervical cancer usually develops very slowly. It starts as a precancerous condition called dysplasia. This precancerous condition can be detected by a Pap smear and is 100% treatable. It can take years for precancerous changes to turn into cervical cancer. Most women who are diagnosed with cervical cancer today have not had regular Pap smears or they have not followed up on abnormal Pap smear results. Almost all cervical cancers are caused by HPV (human papilloma virus). HPV is a common virus that is spread through sexual intercourse. There are many different types of HPV. Some strains lead to cervical cancer. (Other strains may cause genital warts, while others do not cause any problems at all.) A woman's sexual habits and patterns can increase her risk for cervical cancer. What You'll Need 3 pounds bone-in beef short ribs 1/2 teaspoon salt | 1/2 teaspoon pepper 1 tablespoon canola oil 4 medium carrots, cut into 1-inch pieces 1 cup beef broth | 4 fresh thyme sprigs 1 bay leaf | 2 large onions, cut into 1/2-inch wedges 6 garlic cloves, minced | 1 tablespoon tomato paste 2 cups dry red wine or beef broth 4 teaspoons cornstarch | 3 tablespoons cold water Salt and pepper to taste
How to Make It Sprinkle ribs with 1/2 teaspoon each salt and pepper. In a large skillet, heat oil over medium heat. In batches, brown ribs on all sides; transfer to a 4- or 5-qt. slow cooker. Add carrots, broth, thyme and bay leaf to ribs. Add onions to the same skillet; cook and stir over medium heat 8-9 minutes or until tender. Add garlic and tomato paste; cook and stir 1 minute longer. Stir in wine. Bring to a boil; cook 8-10 minutes or until liquid is reduced by half. Add to slow cooker. Cook, covered, on low 6-8 hours or until meat is tender. Remove ribs and vegetables; keep warm. Transfer cooking juices to a small saucepan; skim fat. Discard thyme and bay leaf. Bring juices to a boil. In a small bowl, mix cornstarch and water until smooth; stir into cooking juices. Return to a boil; cook and stir 1-2 minutes or until thickened. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
