Passionate about The Vale of Glamorgan
We are a small independent publisher. We are not a large publishing group pretending to be home grown. Vale Life magazine is written, designed and produced in the Vale of Glamorgan for the people of the Vale of Glamorgan.
Our philosophy
We are committed to quality. This quote by William Foster pretty much sums up our thinking: “Quality is never an accident; it is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, intelligent direction and skillful execution; it represents the wise choice of many alternatives.”
Caveat emptor
Advertisers supply their own copy or artwork, and therefore Vale Life cannot accept any responsibility for disputes between advertisers and their customers. Caveat emptor - let the buyer beware.
Important you read this
We have made every effort to ensure that all information contained in Vale Life or on www.valelife.co.uk (or our social media streams) is correct and accurate. Apologies, we are not accepting subscriptions at present. However, you can reserve a copy with some of our outlets across the Vale or read articles on www.valelife.co.uk
Missed the last issue?
We hold a small number of each issue in stock so if you do need a pristine copy, please telephone us or email jennifer@goodlifepublishing.co.uk. Hopefully we’ll have the issue you want (but we cannot guarantee it). Each back issue costs £10 including postage and packing.
Yes, it’s free. Priceless actually! Vale Life is distributed free through a wide variety of outlets across Vale of Glamorgan and beyond and is given away free of charge on the understanding that we are happy for it to be lent, passed on, given to friends and generally read until it falls apart. At which point, you can recycle it and we’d be delighted if you did.

Welcome
to the Spring
2026 edition of Vale Life and with it, thankfully, some blue sky at last.
Let’s face it, it’s been a grey old beginning to the year and, in a world that often feels heavy with uncertainty, it’s easy to become overwhelmed by the constant stream of headlines and worries beyond our control.
But here in the Vale, we’ve always known the power of something quieter, yet far more meaningful - community.
While we may not be able to change everything happening around us, we can choose how we show up for one another. A smile, a kind word, a moment of patience - these small acts matter more than ever.
This season, we’re celebrating the spirit of togetherness that makes our area so special. Our local independent businessesthe cafés, shops, creatives and entrepreneurs - are the heartbeat of our towns and villages. They bring character, warmth and individuality to our high streets, and right now, they need our support more than ever.
Of course, convenience is part of modern life, and we all shop online from time to time. But when you can, think local first. Every purchase, no matter how small, makes a difference – your pounds and pence really are the glue that binds our communities.
So, let’s choose optimism. Let’s choose kindness. And let’s continue to support the people and places that make the Vale such a wonderful place to live. See you next time.
We love bringing you our Cover Star features in Vale Life. This issue we introduce Samantha B Boutique in Ewenny. The perfect spot to discover fresh spring and summer styles, and enjoy a relaxed, welcoming space where fashion is fun, service is personal, and where stories are shared. See our glamorous feature on pages 14-17.
Living in the Vale offers the best of both worlds, where stunning coastline meets beautiful green spaces. From the dramatic cliffs and golden beaches along the Heritage Coast to the tranquility of parks and countryside, there is always somewhere to explore.
A morning walk along the coastal path can be followed by an afternoon picnic in one of the Vale’s many parks, where open skies and fresh air are part of everyday life.
Families, walkers, and nature lovers all benefit from this rare balance of landscapes. Whether it’s watching the waves roll in, spotting wildlife, or simply enjoying a quiet moment under the trees, the Vale makes it easy to reconnect with nature. It’s this unique blend of coast and countryside that makes living here feel like a permanent escape, while still being wonderfully connected and welcoming.

The page now boasts over 2,880 followers and has regular posts from Islanders, Barry residents and visitors.
Over the last year or so, sets of keys have been found, so many cats (they do stray), diamond rings, jewellery, clothing, hats and caps, phones, handbags, wallets and purses, dogs, watches, toys; you name it, the group has managed to return so many things to grateful owners.

HISTORY MEETS INSPIRED DESIGN
Nicky Bright Holidays
At the heart of Nicky Bright Holidays, owner Nicky Bright believes that a stay should feel as memorable as the destination itself. Rather than filling her holiday lets with off-the-shelf furniture, Nicky sources distinctive pieces and lovingly repurposes them, creating interiors that tell a story and elevate every guest’s experience.
There is also a small band of metal detectorists who regularly post their finds on the page. Several have even gone out of their way to find lost jewellery that has special emotional and sentimental value, and with some success. “It’s always lovely to reunite them with their owners,” they say.
There are a few obvious rules to engaging with the page: no advertising, or spamming, and the post must be related to being lost or found on Barry Island.
Spring is the perfect time to begin something new, and whether customers are seasoned knitters, enthusiastic sewers or simply drawn to the beauty of handmade pieces, there is inspiration in every corner. Lighter textures, fresh colours and thoughtful materials make it easy to refresh projects or start a creative journey from scratch.
A perfect example is a striking milk cart dating back more than 100 years, now transformed into a stunning kitchen island at The Old Stables, Pembroke. Once a working piece of agricultural history, it has been carefully upscaled to serve modern life: providing a generous surface for food preparation, integrated storage baskets for snacks, dedicated space for wine, and finished with a sleek oak resin top that enhances its natural charm.
It’s this fusion of heritage and contemporary living that defines Nicky Bright Holidays. Through imaginative craftsmanship and an eye for the extraordinary, Nicky doesn’t just furnish her properties - she creates environments that feel special, authentic and unforgettable.
You don’t have to have lost something to join the group. The very fact you could share a Facebook post might assist someone finding a lost ring, a phone or a set of keys - it all helps.

This iconic shrine to good coffee is a must visit for lots of dog owners in spring and summer. You don’t have to own a dog though; you’ll be as welcome without. The clientele changes through the day. Daniel Matthew Estate Agents
Finding the right home is about more than bricks and mortar - it’s about understanding lifestyles, ambitions and the moments that matter. That philosophy sits at the heart of Daniel Matthew Estate Agents, an award-winning agency with offices in Bridgend and Barry.
If you love to people watch, this is the place. The views are exceptional, and all life is here. No visit to Barry Island is complete without a photo in front of the Gavin & Stacey cast; as Ness would say, “We’re not gonna lie to you.” Marco’s Café on Barry Island was famous before the show - for great coffee, happy banter and appallingly bad jokes from owner Marco. Yes, this Italian/Welsh café is a true favourite with dog walkers all year ‘round.
What truly sets the agency apart is its people. The team is highly trained, experienced and deeply invested in achieving the best possible outcome for every client. They take the time to listen, to understand individual needs and to tailor their approach - whether selling, buying or advising.
Combining professional expertise with a refreshingly personal service, Daniel Matthew Estate Agents have built a reputation based on trust, results and genuine care.
The staff are brilliant, and it seems to attract a lovely group of customers. The Marco’s gang serve a superb range of reasonably priced coffees and beverages, paninis, pasties, pizza (obviously) and ice cream. And we mustn’t forget the cakes. Their cakes are “molto delizioso” as Marco would say.
From first-time buyers searching for their starter home to growing families needing more space, and homeowners looking to downsize, Daniel Matthew offers expert guidance at every stage of the property journey. Their portfolio reflects this versatility, covering a wide range of homes while maintaining a consistent focus on quality, value and local knowledge.

Marco’s Café Promenade, Barry Island CF62 5TQ
On a spring day in 1926 Mr Arthur Gwyn, Solicitor, arrived at the offices of Gwyn and Gwyn at 58 Eastgate Cowbridge and received a copy of The Black Abbot, the new thriller by Edgar Wallace, then Britain's most celebrated and widely-read crime writer.
T HE L AB R EPORT
ARTHUR AND THE BLACK ABBOT
Arthur Senior Black Labrador at Vale Solicitors tells a troubling tale about his namesake Mr Arthur Gwyn. The Black Abbot novel featured a solicitor who is guilty of forgery, embezzlement and fraud who steals his sister's fortune and fraudulently disposes of an estate he is administering.
Arthur was more than a little dismayed that the name given to this fictional Solicitor was Arthur Gwyn, of the firm of Gwyn and Gwyn and described on the back cover as “the unscrupulous and dandified Arthur Gwyn”!
For Arthur, and his brother Vivian Gwyn, reputation was everything. They were looking forward to marking the 70th Anniversary of the Cowbridge solicitors firm founded by their Uncle Thomas Rees in 1867. Arthur was a veteran of the First World War having served as Lieutenant in the Welsh Regiment. He was Town Clerk of Cowbridge and, with his brother, highly respected as solicitors of the town.
Arthur went straight into battle with the publishers and author.
“No one knew what had happened to Mr Gwyn’s signed copy of The Black Abbot, but I have recently found a first edition which includes Mr Gwyn's name and look forward to reading of his fictional exploits.”
“We are proud of the history of our firm and to work from the Gwyn brothers’ offices at 58 Eastgate which are named Gwyn House in their memory.”
“We also, of course, look to the future and continue to provide a full range of legal services to the people of Cowbridge and the Vale. We welcome the newest member of our team Matthew Lewis, another well-known Cowbridge solicitor who, coincidentally lives in Arthur Gwyn’s former home.
Edgar Wallace immediately responded to express his regret: “I was staggered to get your letter on my return to town today and I lose no time in telling you how terribly sorry I am if I have annoyed you. It is all the more distressing to me because I was careful to look through the London Telephone Directory to see whether there was a Gwyn & Gwyn, or an Arthur Gwyn, before I set my wicked solicitor down in Holbom. I cannot tell you how sorry I am that this stupid and innocent blunder should have occurred, and I hope you will forgive me for even associating an honourable name with my Holbom villain.”
The publishers immediately withdrew the book from sale and called in all unsold copies. The book was reprinted with a different name for the solicitor. Arthur Gwyn received a respectable amount of compensation, and also a copy of the newly printed book with an expression of regret signed by Edgar Wallace on the fly-leaf.
Michael Morgan Director of Vale Solicitors (incorporating Gwyn and Gwyn) recalls being told this story when he started his career with Gwyn and Gwyn in 1984.
Our towns in the Vale of Glamorgan are full of charm, character and a thriving independent spirit. High streets are lined with unique boutiques, artisan cafés, and family-run businesses that give every one of our towns and villages its own personality.
Shopping locally here is not just convenient - it’s an experience. From handcrafted goods to carefully curated fashion and delicious local produce, there’s always something special to discover.
Traders take pride in what they offer, often building lasting relationships with their customers and creating a warm, personal atmosphere you simply don’t find in larger retail centres. Wandering through these towns, you’ll notice a sense of creativity and passion that defines the local economy.
FASHION & GIFTS!
Cocoplum Boutique Cowbridge
A firm favourite in the stylish market town of Cowbridge, Cocoplum is known for its beautifully curated approach to fashion, bringing together clothing, swimwear, lingerie and accessories from some of the most sought-after brands.
WELCOME TO THE NEW
Venetia Steele Boutique
The opening of the new Venetia Steele Boutique has been one (if not the!) most glamorous moments on the local fashion calendar, and founder Nicola Steele would expect nothing less. Nicola has poured her signature style, passion and perfectionism into every inch of the space.
From day one she has been hands-on with the transformation, personally overseeing the design and working closely with a team of exceptional local tradespeople. Builders, decorators, sign makers and softfurnishings specialists have collaborated to bring her vision to life, with Nicola championing craftsmanship and community at every stage.
As the season changes, Cocoplum has refreshed its rails with Spring/ Summer collections, introducing lighter fabrics, uplifting colours and effortless silhouettes perfect for warmer days ahead. The boutique is also delighted to welcome new brands, adding a fresh perspective alongside established favourites.
Fashion highlights include Hale Bob, Vilagallo, Rose & Nancy and Chalk, complemented by contemporary labels Hope & Ivy, Tribal and Amazing Women. European elegance comes courtesy of Melissa J., Cadenza Italy and Inoa. Cocoplum’s swimwear and lingerie edit features premium names such as Maryan Mehlhorn, Seafolly, Watercult, Marie Jo and PrimaDonna, while jewellery, candles and gift vouchers complete the experience - ideal for thoughtful gifting or a seasonal treat.
Spanning two beautifully curated floors, the boutique offers a refined retail experience. The ground floor showcases the main collection. The first floor is dedicated exclusively to occasion wear (weddings, the races, glamour and easy to wear). It also has a luxurious private styling room, allowing clients to enjoy a private and personalised service and is appointment only.
Balancing the creation of a brand-new boutique while running her existing business has been demanding, but Nicola’s standards are unapologetically high. From bespoke fitting rooms and handpicked tiles to the elegant colour palette and flawless finishes, no detail has been overlooked.
The result is a boutique as confident, captivating and unforgettable as its founder.
Supporting independent businesses in the Vale means supporting the community itself, and that’s something residents value deeply. It’s shopping with heart, where every purchase helps keep the local spirit alive and thriving.
At the helm is Liz Lewis - a Bridgend girl born and bred, who has called Cowbridge home for the past thirty years.
With a history of successful businesses behind her and a lifelong love of fashion, Liz has brought her vision to life by spotting a clear gap in the market: a high-end dress agency offering carefully curated, designer-led pieces.
Her eye is impeccable. From coveted names like Zimmermann and Moschino to contemporary favourites including Essentiel Antwerp and Reiss, every item has been thoughtfully selected to feel both special and wearable.
The concept is refreshingly simple. Clients bring in their pieces, agree a price and sales strategy with Liz, and the item is displayed for eight weeks. Once sold, the client receives 50% of the sale price within five days - or the item is returned if unsold.
Alongside the clothing, you’ll find a beautiful selection of sunglasses, handbags, belts and shoes - each piece ready for its next chapter.
So, if you find yourself in Cowbridge, do pop in, have a browse, and discover a collection where every piece has a pastand a very stylish future.
At Samantha B Boutique in the beautiful hamlet of Ewenny, the new season collection arrives not just with beautiful clothes, but with a celebration of friendship, confidence, and the stories that shape us.
A TOAST TO SPRING
AT SAMANTHA B
To mark the launch of her latest collection, owner Sam welcomed four of her cherished clients into her home for an afternoon that perfectly captured the spirit of the boutique. There was cake, there was champagne, and most importantly, there was laughter - the kind that comes easily when women gather not just as customers, but as friends.
Over the years, Sam has built something truly special. Her boutique is known for its carefully curated fashion, but it’s the community she has nurtured that makes it exceptional. Many of her clients have been with her for years, and in that time, relationships have grown far beyond the fitting room. These are women who share life’s ups and downs - the funny moments, the poignant ones, and everything in between. Sam is at the heart of it all, always ready with a listening ear, a warm smile, and an instinctive understanding of what makes each woman feel her best.
The lovely ladies are wearing Peruzzi, Robell, Cream and Foil throughout.
The afternoon unfolded as a relaxed and joyful preview of the new spring/ summer collection. Flowing fabrics, flattering cuts, and vibrant seasonal colours took centre stage as the ladies tried on pieces that felt as good as they looked. From effortless daywear to elegant occasion outfits, the collection reflects the boutique’s signature blend of comfort, style, and individuality.
For a truly memorable touch, the group took a short trip to The Priory Church of St Michael, Ewenny, where Sam serves as a warden at. The historic church, with its timeless stonework and peaceful surroundings, provided a breathtaking backdrop for showcasing the boutique’s wedding guest looks. Against this serene setting, the collection came to life in a way that felt both graceful and inspiring - perfect for those special moments in the season’s calendar.
There was something rather magical about seeing these women, each with their own story, stepping into outfits that made them feel confident and radiant. It was a gentle reminder that style isn’t about age - it’s about self-expression, joy, and embracing who you are.
This season at Samantha B Boutique is all about lightness - in fabric, in colour, and in spirit. Whether you’re searching for the perfect outfit for a summer celebration or simply looking to refresh your wardrobe with pieces that make you feel wonderful, Sam and her boutique offer more than just fashion. They offer a sense of belonging.

Step into the all-new Venetia Steele Boutique on Nolton Street, Bridgend, and you immediately understand that this isn’t just a shop, it’s a reflection of the woman behind it.
BLONDE A MBITION
NICOLA STEELE’S GLAMOROUS NEW CHAPTER
Some people open boutiques. Nicola Steele creates worlds; effortlessly glamorous, warm, and unmistakably confident, Nicola has built her brand with the same sparkle and selfassurance she brings to every room she walks into, and every social media reel. If there was an award for sheer hard work by a woman in business, Nic is certainly a contender.
Named after her mother, Venetia, the boutique first opened on 1 July 2022 at 30 Caroline Street in Bridgend - a huge leap from the purpose-built garden studio where Nicola’s business first took shape during the Covid years.
It was a bold step into the high street spotlight, and while she admits to a flutter of nerves, she never doubted it was the right move. She still speaks with heartfelt gratitude about the landlord who took a chance on her back then, offering the space and, with it, a vote of confidence that helped turn a dream into a destination
Now, Nicola is stepping into her most exciting chapter yet. After closing the Caroline Street boutique on 24 February, she has moved into her stunning new premises at 43 Nolton Street - and this time, it’s all hers. No lease, no halfway measures. Just the thrill of owning the building and the business she has poured her heart into. It’s a moment she describes as bittersweet, saying goodbye to a place filled with memories while embracing a future she has long imagined.
Through every change, one thing remains constant: her commitment to dressing women in pieces that make them feel fabulous without the designer price tag. The rails will still be filled with the stylish, accessible fashion her loyal clients adore, and Nicola is quick to thank them for supporting her journey every step of the way.
Her sense of purpose extends far beyond fashion. A devoted dog lover, Nicola continues to champion Hope Rescue, hosting events throughout the year to raise vital funds for the charity. Giving back isn’t an add-on or marketing ploy - it’s woven into the fabric of the boutique itself.
The move to Nolton Street, a successful art gallery and art supplies shop, feels particularly fitting, because what Nicola has created is a space that blends creativity with experience. She has poured her signature style, passion and perfectionism into every corner, working hands-on throughout the transformation and collaborating closely with a team she enthusiastically describes as “exceptional local tradespeople” and who she champions at every opportunity. “They’ve been amazing!” she exclaims, with genuine warmth and appreciation. Builders, decorators, sign makers and soft-furnishing specialists have all played their part, reflecting Nicola’s belief in supporting local craftsmanship and community.
A special thanks must also go to the previous owners of the building Garry and Alison who lovingly restored the beautiful building in the 1980’s. They haven’t closed she’s keen to remind everyone, just moved to a new unit in Bridgend.
Spanning two beautifully curated floors, the stunning boutique offers a refined retail experience. The ground floor showcases the collections clients already know and love - effortlessly stylish pieces designed to make every day dressing feel special.
Upstairs, reached via a striking galleried landing, the experience becomes even more elevated. The first floor is dedicated exclusively to occasion wear, from weddings to the races, glamour to easy elegance.
Here, clients can also enjoy a luxurious private styling room, offering a personal, appointment-only service that turns shopping into a truly memorable moment.
Balancing the creation of a brand-new boutique while continuing to run her business has been demanding, but Nicola’s standards are unapologetically high. From bespoke fitting rooms and handpicked tiles to the elegant colour palette and flawless finishes, no detail has been overlooked.
The result is a boutique that feels as confident, captivating and unforgettable as its founder. As the doors open on Nolton Street, Venetia Steele Boutique isn’t just unveiling a new space - it’s celebrating a milestone. A dream realised, a community embraced (she’s passionate about Bridgend town), and a future that looks every bit as stylish as Nicola.
Because for this ambitious blonde, this isn’t simply a move. It’s her moment.

Few legal offices in South Wales can trace their history back as far as DP Law’s Bridgend base - a practice that has grown with the community while continuing to provide clear, specialist support for home buyers and sellers today.
DP L AW: A R ESPECTED NAME
HERITAGE PLUS A MODERN LEGAL APPROACH
Situated at 3 Court Road in Bridgend, the law practice now known as DP Law operates from a long-established office location. Built around 1850 by architect Phillip I Thomas, this historic building has housed legal advisers since the early 1900s - making it a longstanding fixture of local life.
From the early days of Stockwood & Williams through to its modern incarnation, the practice has continually evolved while remaining committed to serving South Wales with trusted, approachable legal expertise.
Beyond its Bridgend roots, DP Law now also proudly serves clients from its office in Cardiff, extending its reach into the capital and surrounding areas. The Cardiff presence reflects the firm’s continued growth and its commitment to making high-quality legal services accessible across the region. Together, the two offices represent a careful balance between heritage and forward-looking ambition.
The firm’s modern identity is shaped by decades of steady development. Over time, services expanded in response to the needs of the community, and in 2011 the practice was incorporated as DP Law Limited - a step that formalised its structure while preserving its trusted name.
A significant new chapter began in October 2024, when DP Law became part of Davisons Law, an established and rapidly growing legal group with a strong presence across England. The move was not about replacing local identity with a national brand; rather, it was about strengthening a well-established firm with additional resources and long-term investment.
Gary Davison, Managing Director of Davisons Law, said on the acquisition: “This acquisition aligns perfectly with our expansion plans and allows us to bring our expertise and clientfocused approach to the Welsh market. We’re particularly excited about the opportunities this presents for serving clients in South Wales.’’
Today, DP Law benefits from the infrastructure, compliance support and technological investment that come with being part of a national network spanning multiple offices and hundreds of legal professionals. However, what clients experience day-to-day remains reassuringly familiar: accessible advice, clear communication and a team that understands the local community.
“Honouring its past while confidently shaping its future.”
The firm’s services are dedicated exclusively to residential conveyancing, providing clear, reliable support for buyers and sellers. By focusing solely on property transactions, DP Law delivers expert guidance at every stage of the process - from initial instruction through to completion - ensuring a smooth and efficient experience. This specialist approach enables the firm to build lasting client relationships at key milestones such as purchasing a first home or moving up the property ladder.
Its Cardiff office strengthens the firm’s regional footprint, offering convenient access for clients in the capital while remaining closely connected to its Bridgend heritage. This dual presence ensures DP Law can combine deep local knowledge with the strategic support of a larger organisation - an increasingly important advantage in today’s evolving legal landscape.
From Victorian foundations and historic ledgers dating back to the 19th century to modern systems and national backing, DP Law’s journey reflects thoughtful evolution. Rooted in Bridgend, growing in Cardiff and supported by Davisons Law, the firm remains dedicated to delivering reliable, high-quality legal advicehonouring its past while confidently shaping its future.

Tucked into one of the Vale’s most picturesque villages, The Fox & Hounds in Llancarfan has always had the bones of something special.
A COUNTRY P UB, R EFINED THE FOX & HOUNDS, LLANCARFAN
Under the ownership of Adam Jones, it’s quietly becoming one of the most compelling places to eat in the area - not by reinventing the wheel, but by getting the fundamentals absolutely right.
And, crucially, it’s closer than you might think. Within half an hour of most parts of the Vale and Cardiff, yet feeling properly removed once you arrive. The kind of place you plan to pop into for a quick bite and end up staying longer than intended.
“Pubs are becoming cool again,” says Adam. Spend a lunchtime or evening here, and it’s hard to argue.
A menu that knows exactly what it’s doing
At the heart of The Fox is a seasonal a la carte menu that balances classic pub comfort with a more assured, ingredient-led approach. It doesn’t try to dazzle. It doesn’t need to.
The slow-cooked ox cheek and red wine pie is everything it should berich, deep, unapologetically satisfying. The sort of dish that reminds you why pubs like this still matter. Alongside it, wild sea bass with caper and olive potato cake offers something lighter but no less considered, while Wye Valley asparagus and wild garlic speak quietly of the season without making a fuss about it.
Starters follow the same thinking. Blue oyster mushrooms on toast with a poached duck egg. Thai cod croquettes with chilli sauce. Simple ideas, executed properly - which, in truth, is where most places fall down.
And then there’s the burger. There should always be a burger. This one earns its place. It’s comfort food, yesbut comfort food with intent.
A kitchen with quiet confidence
That sense of consistency runs through everything. Adam’s background, including time with the Bar 44 Group, shows not in theatrics but in controlflavour, balance, timing.
Working alongside him in the kitchen is chef Quentin O’Neill, whose experience includes The Walnut Tree and The Fox at St Brides. Quentin and his team are the ones bringing the ingredients to life on the plate, translating ideas into something tangible, while working closely with Adam as the menu continues to evolve. It’s a collaborative rhythm - ideas, refinement, execution - and it shows in the consistency coming out of the kitchen.
Previous visits - from curry nights to steak evenings (you can read our glowing reviews on www.valelife. co.uk) - reinforce the point. The food arrives as it should. The room fills steadily. People settle in. No drama. Just a kitchen doing its job well.
Good food at a fair price - still possible
Perhaps the most refreshing thing is that it still feels accessible. In a time when eating out can quickly become an expensive habit, The Fox manages to hold its ground. Steak night at £15 is, quite simply, an excellent deal for the quality on the plate. Not a gimmick, not a cut corner - just good food, priced sensibly. And that matters. Because it’s what keeps people coming back.
The garden, ready to come into its own
By the time this reaches readers, the outdoor space will have had a thoughtful upgrade.
Overlooking the stream, the garden is already one of the pub’s strongest assets. With the addition of a new outdoor kitchen and pizza oven, it becomes something more - somewhere to linger, not just pass through.
Neapolitan-style pizzas, served every Friday and Saturday, bring a relaxed, informal energy to the space. It’s an addition that makes perfect sense. Nothing forced. Just another reason to stay a little longer.
A rhythm that works
There’s a natural cadence to the week here. Wednesday brings curry night, now firmly established. Thursday is steak night - popular for a reason. Friday and Saturday lean into the pizza offering, while Sunday remains what it should be in a pub like this: busy, generous, and best booked in advance.
It’s not over-programmed. Just enough to give people a reason to return.
A proper pub, done properly
Step inside and it still feels like a pub should. Wood panelling, chalky tones, log fires when needed, and a bar that anchors the room. Outside, the riverside setting does the rest. There’s no sense of it trying too hard, which is precisely why it works.
Service follows suit - warm, attentive, and unforced. The sort of hospitality that feels genuine rather than rehearsed.
The Vale Life verdict
The Fox & Hounds is doing something deceptively difficult. It’s raising standards without losing its identity.
The a la carte menu is confident and well judged. The kitchen, led day-today by Quentin O’Neill, delivers with consistency and care. The pricing remains fair. The new garden and pizza offering will only strengthen its appeal. And its location - accessible yet tucked away - makes it an easy choice for both midweek and weekend.
“At
In short, this is a pub that understands what people want. Good food. Proper hospitality. And a reason to return. The Fox & Hounds Llancarfan, near Barry CF62 3AD 01446 612134

There are restaurants that quietly open their doors and grow by word of mouth, and then there are those that become part of the local dining fabric almost overnight. Junoon, on Talbot Road in Talbot Green, is firmly the latter.
JUNOON: PASSION, PRECISION
AND PLATES WORTH SHARING
Junoon is a contemporary Indian restaurant built on passion, precision, and a deep respect for tradition. The name itself offers a clue. Junoon translates as “passion” - and that ethos runs through everything here, from the carefully curated menu to the warm, attentive service that greets you the moment you walk in.
Drawing on classic Indian culinary techniques while embracing a more modern, refined approach, Junoon has carved out a reputation as one of the area’s most talked-about dining destinations.
Inside, the space strikes that elusive balance: stylish without being showy, contemporary yet comfortable. Soft lighting, a gentle buzz of conversation, and an easy confidence in the room set the tone. It’s the kind of place that works just as well for a midweek catch-up as it does for a celebratory evening out.
A menu rooted in tradition Junoon doesn’t try to reinvent Indian cuisine - instead, it refines it. The kitchen focuses on quality ingredients, time-honoured methods, and bold, balanced flavours.
Start with the small plates and you’ll immediately see the intent. A kebab platter arrives fragrant from the tandoor, showcasing perfectly marinated meats with that unmistakable smokiness that only proper charcoal cooking delivers. Alongside it, garlic chilli tiger prawns bring a gentle heat that builds with every bite - fresh, vibrant, and unapologetically moreish.
There’s a confidence in the cooking here. Nothing feels rushed, and nothing is overcomplicated. It’s food that knows exactly what it’s doing.
The main event
When it comes to the mains, Junoon leans into comfort - but elevates it.
Butter chicken is everything you want it to be: rich, silky, and deeply satisfying, the kind of dish that wraps around you like a warm blanket. In contrast, the kosha mangsho offers something darker and more intense - slow-cooked, deeply caramelised, and layered with spice in a way that rewards patience.
And then, of course, there are the naans. Peshwari brings a gentle sweetness, while the garlic keema naan is indulgent in the best possible way. Technically sides, but, in reality, essential tools for gathering every last drop of sauce.
By this point, the table tends to take on a life of its own - dishes shared, plates passed, conversation pausing as everyone leans into the experience. It’s exactly how food like this should be enjoyed.
A sweet surprise
Dessert is where Junoon quietly shows another side of its personality. Alongside traditional favourites like ras malai - soft, milky, and delicately sweet - you’ll find more contemporary touches, like a mango brûlée that delivers a crisp, caramelised top and a bright, tropical finish beneath.
It’s a small but telling detail: a kitchen that respects tradition, but isn’t afraid to play.
Built on loyalty
What truly defines Junoon, though, isn’t just the food - it’s the connection it builds with its guests.
It’s not unusual to meet diners who have been coming since day one, returning regularly, often ordering the same dishes, sitting at the same tables. That kind of loyalty isn’t manufactured. It’s earned - through consistency, care, and a genuine love for what they do.
Service reflects that philosophy. Warm, attentive, and never overbearing, the team strikes exactly the right note, making you feel welcome without fuss.
Local touches, thoughtful details Junoon also embraces its place within the community. The drinks list includes a well-chosen selection of beers, wines, and spirits, alongside locally produced favourites like Hensol Gin - a nod to the growing food and drink scene in South Wales.
Upstairs, a private dining space offers a more intimate setting for celebrations, gatherings, or group bookings - adding another layer of versatility to the restaurant.
Why Junoon works
In a world of ever-changing food trends, Junoon’s appeal lies in its clarity. It knows what it is: a restaurant that values flavour, technique, and hospitality above all else.
You leave warm, well-fed, and already planning your return.
“Arrive hungry. Bring friends. Order generously.”

Owned and developed as part of the wider Fulham waterfront regeneration led by Fulham Football Club and its ownership, the hotel forms part of a £350m transformation of the area into a lifestyle destination. With just 13 rooms and suites, it offers an intimate, almost private-club feel, alongside access to a spa (with treatments and an upcoming infinity pool), private members’ club, riverside dining and a vibrant community hub.
From the moment we arrived, the hotel made an impression. The first thing that struck us was the bold, modern architectural structure rising beside the river - sleek, confident, and perfectly in tune with its surroundings. This was swiftly followed by an exceptionally warm welcome from General Manager Janos and his colleague, whose genuine hospitality set the tone for the stay. We were personally shown to our Junior Suite Balcony with River Viewand what a room.
“A
riverside retreat where modern luxury meets Fulham charm.”
F OOTBALL H ERITAGE
The suite was beautifully appointed, balancing contemporary design with comfort and understated luxury. Floor-to-ceiling windows framed uninterrupted Thames views, while the private balcony offered a tranquil vantage point to soak it all in. Inside, every detail had been considered: plush furnishings, elegant lighting, and a layout that felt both spacious and intimate. The fully stocked minibar (a thoughtful inclusion when booking directly) added an extra touch of indulgence. The bathroom was equally impressive - a serene sanctuary featuring a deep soaking bath and premium Diptyque products, a mark of quality reserved for truly high-end hotels.
We were fortunate to be given a personal tour by Janos, who introduced us to the hotel’s wider ecosystem. This includes the lively Riverside Market - a dynamic social space where hotel guests and Fulham locals mingle effortlessly - and the exceptional Brasserie Constance, proudly featured in the Michelin Guide. He also shared exciting plans for the near future, including the opening of the spa’s infinity pool and an exclusive penthouse suite, further elevating what is already a remarkable offering. It was clear throughout that no expense has been spared; every corner of the hotel speaks to thoughtful design, quality materials, and a commitment to luxury.
Dinner at Brasserie Constance was a highlight. Refined yet welcoming, the restaurant delivers exactly what you would expect from a Michelinrecognised dining experiencebeautifully executed dishes, impeccable service, and an atmosphere that feels special without being intimidating. Expect typical dining costs in the region of around £60+ per person for a full experience, reflecting its Michelin pedigree and quality ingredients.
Room rates at Fulham Pier Hotel typically start from around £300 per night, rising depending on suite category, season and availability - positioning it firmly within London’s luxury boutique bracket.
Beyond the hotel, the location lends itself perfectly to exploration. We enjoyed a scenic walk along the Thames Path before heading into the nearby King's Road in Chelsea, where elegant boutiques and stunning townhouses make for an effortless afternoon of window shopping. Back at the hotel, our second evening took on a more relaxed tone with burgers and beers in the Riverside Market - a buzzing, sociable space that clearly serves as a hub for the area’s movers and shakers - young and old alike.
What struck us most about this new boutique hotel, however, is its people. Every member of staff we encountered was warm, attentive, and genuinely enthusiastic about ensuring guests have the best possible experience. That level of service elevates everything.
All in all, Fulham Pier Hotel is a must-visit for those seeking a stylish riverside escape in London, complete with world-class dining and a vibrant local atmosphere. Sheer indulgence.
Fulham Pier Hotel Stevenage Road Fulham, London SW6 6HH
Right in the vibrant heart of London, Page8 Hotel is one of those rare finds that blends boutique charm with an unbeatable central location.
COVENT GARDEN COOL
Positioned just off Trafalgar Square, it places you firmly in the thick of Covent Garden’s energy while remaining a calm, design-led retreat from the buzz outside. Opened in recent years as part of a new wave of lifestyle hotels, Page8 offers around 140 thoughtfully designed rooms, catering to modern travellers who value simplicity, comfort, and aesthetic appeal.
Accessibility is a major plus. With Charing Cross station just moments away, and Leicester Square and Embankment tube stations within easy walking distance, getting around London couldn’t be easier. Whether you’re heading to the West End, Soho, or further afield, you’re exceptionally well connected. Breakfast is available on-site at the hotel’s laid-back Common House coffee bar, offering a relaxed alternative to traditional hotel dining.
M EETS BOUTIQUE C
Our journey began at Cardiff Central, hopping on a direct GWR train to London Paddington - smooth, efficient, and, frankly, stress-free. From there, we opted for a classic black cab (we’re firm believers in supporting London’s iconic cabbies), and within no time we were pulling up outside Page8. Easy peasy, just as travel should be.
First impressions count, and the reception team delivered. Friendly, welcoming, and refreshingly informal, the check-in process was seamless. There’s an understated cool about the place - less polished corporate hotel, more stylish city hideaway.
We stayed in a Superior Double Room, and it didn’t disappoint. Spacious by London standards, it was immaculately clean with a calming, minimalist design. The standout feature? A stunning street view overlooking Trafalgar Square - perfect for a bit of people-watching and soaking up that unmistakable London atmosphere.
The bathroom mirrored the room’s simplicity - spotless, functional, and stocked with fluffy, non-branded towels and quality toiletries. The shower, while perfectly adequate, could have been a touch larger and a bit hotter, but it certainly did the job after a long day exploring the city.
Breakfast each morning was a highlight. Served in the Common House Coffee bar on the ground floor, it struck just the right balance between casual and indulgent. Think superbly flaky croissants generously filled with scrambled egg and bacon, paired with expertly brewed coffee from Assembly Coffee. It felt more like visiting a trendy local café than a hotel breakfast spot.
Our first evening set the tone beautifully. Just a stone’s throw from the hotel, we dined at Le Garrick, a charming French restaurant celebrating its 40th year. Tucked away with a wonderfully intimate feel, it offers cosy nooks perfect for romantic dinners as well as lively spaces for gatherings with friends and family. The menu leans into classic French cuisinerich, comforting, and executed with confidence - and the atmosphere was warm, buzzy, and unmistakably Parisian in spirit. A perfect start to our stay.
In terms of cost, rooms at Page8 typically range from around £220–£350 per night depending on availability and room type, with Superior Double Rooms sitting comfortably in the mid-to-upper end of that bracket. Breakfast items are individually priced, with dishes like the croissant sandwiches and coffee coming in at approximately £8 to £15 eachwell worth it for the quality.
We stayed for two nights and made the absolute most of the location. London was in a generous mood, with sunshine following us as we wandered through some of our favourite spots. Chinatown was as lively and delicious as ever, Seven Dials offered its usual charm and independent shopping, and of course, no trip feels complete without a stop at Harrods - perhaps not quite the same as during the Al Fayed era, but still a must-visit. Liberties was another essential stop, where I happily picked up my favourite perfume.
One standout discovery was Blacklock, an incredible steakhouse with a fascinating backstory - it’s said to have once been a brothel. The atmosphere was electric, with diners fully immersed in plates of expertly cooked meat and the restaurant’s famed homemade cheesecake (which, sadly, we were far too full to try - but there’s always next time). The best part? The prices were surprisingly reasonable for central London.
We must have clocked up miles over the weekend, but that’s all part of the joy of a city like London. And each time we returned to Page8, it felt like stepping back into a calm, welcoming sanctuary. A hot shower and a moment to reset before heading out again - or simply winding down for the eveningwas pure bliss.
If you’re looking to stay somewhere that places you at the centre of it allwhether for restaurants, theatre shows, or a dose of retail therapy – Page8 Hotel is hard to beat. Stylish without being pretentious, central without being chaotic, and comfortable without compromise, it’s a brilliant base for a London city break.
WHAT
WE LOVED
Location, location, location
Great access to shows, restaurants and shopping. Comfy bed, cleanliness and breakfast options. Being right at the heart of all the action.
What we weren’t fans of... Shower could have been bigger, hotter. Police sirens - that’s London for you!

E VERYONE H AS A STORY
WE’LL HELP YOU TELL IT!
It’s something many people consider but few actually do. At Vale Life, we believe every story deserves to be told. And more importantly, we make it far easier than you might think.
From idea to finished book - we handle it all
Most people don’t start because they’re unsure where to begin. That’s where we come in.
We offer a complete, end-to-end publishing service, guiding you from those first early ideas through to a professionally produced book you can be proud of.
We can assist with every stage of the process:
n Concept development and planning
n Writing support or full ghost writing
n Editing and proofreading
n Book design and layout
n Cover design and branding
n Printing and production
n ISBN registration and publishing setup
n Amazon and online distribution

You don’t need to be a writer. You don’t need a finished manuscript. You don’t even need a clear structure.
You simply need a story, an idea, or even just the desire to create something meaningful.
Real stories, real results
We’ve already helped a number of local authors turn their ideas into finished, published books.
Barry resident John Holmes saw his remarkable life story brought to life in The Evacuee - a powerful autobiography that preserves his memories for future generations.
Fellow Barry author Michael Kollakis has worked with us on several fiction titles, including John Smith: Average Joe, The Three Faces of February and its sequel Dial M for Merthyr. We are currently working with Michael on his latest book, The Dumb, The Drunk and The Dead.
We’ve also supported Penarth-based author Erica Austin in publishing The Webb Connection: The Story of a Welsh Family, a beautifully realised exploration of family history and heritage.
Alongside these, we are currently working on a number of new projects, including autobiographies and collections of poetry and personal writings - many of which are set to be published this summer.
More than publishing – we help you reach readers
Creating a book is one thing. Getting it seen, and sold, is another. This is where we offer something genuinely different.
Through our network of lifestyle magazines and websites, including Vale Life, City Life Cardiff, Travel Life and beyond, we can actively promote your book to a wide and engaged audience.
That means:
n Editorial features about you and your story
n Online articles and search-optimised content
n Social media exposure
n Opportunities for ongoing promotion
In short, we don’t just help you create a book, we help you give it a life beyond the page.
A legacy you can hold in your hands For many people, writing a book is about more than publication – it’s about legacy.
It’s about preserving memories. Sharing experiences. Leaving something meaningful behind for family, friends and future generations.
Time and again, we hear the same thing from our authors: “I wish I’d done this sooner.”
You could be next
Whether you’re thinking about writing your life story, developing a novel, creating a poetry collection or showcasing your photography or artwork, we’re here to help.
You might already have pages written. Or you might simply have an idea. Either way, we’ll guide you through it.
If you’ve ever thought about creating a book, now is the time to start. After all, everyone has a story. What’s yours?
EASIER THAN YOU THINK 5 myths about writing a book
Think writing a book is daunting? You’re not alone, but you might be surprised how achievable it really is with the right support.
I’m not a good enough writer You don’t need to be. We can help shape, edit or even ghostwrite your story.
I don’t have enough time We work around you, helping you progress at a pace that suits your life.
It’s too expensive
We offer flexible options to suit a range of budgets.
No one would read my story You’d be surprised how powerful and relatable real stories can be.

Great emphasis is placed on creating memorable experiences. Residents enjoy regular trips out in the community, exploring local attractions, scenic spots garden centres, cafés and more.
Special events also take place throughout the year, from themed celebrations to live entertainment and the much loved Virtual Cruise Week, which transports residents to destinations around the globe through food, music, décor and storytelling.

The bride’s mum Caroline said: “For the home to have facilitated that in such a spectacular way, and for Dad to be part of that and be with my mum Christine, was just beyond precious.
“The memories that we have from this will just be etched on our hearts forever - it was phenomenal.”

MAKING SPACE WITH CARE: HOUSE CLEARANCES BY
BENNETTS REMOVALS
This year marks a major milestone for Bennetts Removals: 30 years of helping people with home and office moves, secure storage, and house clearances – always with professionalism, compassion, and a truly local touch.
Based in Barry, the family-run business has built its reputation across South Wales and beyond, offering a seamless service whether you’re relocating, storing possessions, or, increasingly, arranging a full or partial house clearance.
From Barry to Beverly Hills, and Back Again
It seems John has always been connected to the removals business. As a child, he would often accompany his mother, Glenda Dawe, to work at Mason’s Removals – her sister’s company – where she answered phones and managed administration. By sixteen, John was working there too, learning the ropes of moving furniture.
In 1988, he decided to try something different – first driving minibuses for National Welsh Bustler, then working for Hawkins Antiques, collecting items from auctions across the UK and France. Many of these antiques were sold successfully back in Barry, and John also learned the art of shipping antiques worldwide.
“Based in Barry, the family-run business has built its reputation across South Wales and beyond.”
By twenty-one, he was ready for a new adventure. In 1991, he moved to the USA, living for two years in the Hollywood Hills and working in a five-star Beverly Hills restaurant, an experience that honed his customer service skills and broadened his horizons.
Returning home, John tried his hand at buying and selling antiques, but the removals trade called him back. “People always move, for all sorts of reasons, and I knew the business like the back of my hand,” he says.
In 1995, with the help of a Prince’s Trust loan, he established Bennetts Removals. The business quickly grew, adding office relocation, storage facilities, packaging supplies, and house clearance services.
House Clearances: Practical, Sensitive, and Sustainable While home and office moves and storage remain core services, John and his team have seen a growing demand for their house-clearance expertise.
From single-item collections to clearing entire properties, Bennetts handles every job with care, efficiency, and attention to detail.
They understand that clearances often come at challenging times – perhaps after a bereavement, a move into care, or a major downsize. Their friendly, respectful approach ensures the process is as stress-free as possible, with every clearance tailored to the customer’s needs.
Importantly, Bennetts clearances aren’t just about removal – they’re about responsible removal. Items are carefully sorted, and the team is skilled at identifying belongings with potential value. Through established contacts, Bennetts can connect customers with local auction houses, ensuring
treasured pieces find new homes and often generating funds for the client.
For everything else, recycling is a priority. Bennetts ensures that as much material as possible is reused or recycled, with the goal of sending as little as possible to landfill.
“30 years of helping people with home and office moves, secure storage, and house clearances – always with professionalism, compassion, and a truly local touch.”

Secure Storage
For items that need to be kept safe while a property is cleared, sold, or renovated, their self-storage facilities provide flexible, affordable options.
Helping-Hand Services
From dismantling and reassembling furniture to unpacking and rehoming items, Bennetts can provide additional labour at a modest hourly rate.

Bennetts Removals has been a Which? Trusted Trader for over six years, earning a Certificate of Distinction and even winning the national Which? Trusted Trader of the Month award. This commitment to quality and transparency has won them countless loyal customers over the past three decades.
They serve Cardiff, Barry, Cowbridge, Penarth, Dinas Powys, and the wider South Wales area, but their vans regularly travel all over the UK, and sometimes further afield. Wherever the destination, the same principles apply: careful handling, clear communication, and respect for the client’s property.
Customers Who Keep Coming Back
Testimonials highlight just how valued Bennetts’ approach is: “Moving from Edinburgh to Cardiff… John and his team were excellent, so professional… nothing was too much trouble.”
Another said: “Excellent service, great guys so helpful… We moved from a new house to a 500-year-old house… wasn’t easy, but for these guys it wasn’t a problem.”
Such feedback reflects the ethos that has carried Bennetts through 30 years in business: do the job well, treat people right, and the recommendations will follow.

HENSOL
Travel event highlights 2026 holiday boom
If there was ever any doubt about the UK’s appetite for travel right now, it was firmly put to rest at a recent exhibition held at Hensol Castle and organised by Sam Smith Travel.
There’s a strong appetite for travel in 2026
Set within one of South Wales’ most striking historic venues, the event brought together travel experts, experienced holidaymakers and those simply looking for inspiration - and the response spoke volumes.
A setting that enhances the experience
There are few places better suited to a travel-focused event than Hensol Castle. With its lakeside setting and grand interiors, it provided an atmosphere that naturally complements the idea of escape and discovery.
The venue elevated the experience without overshadowing it - creating a space where conversations about future journeys felt both aspirational and grounded.
A clear surge in travel confidence
From the moment doors opened, visitors arrived in steady numbers throughout the day. The turnout reflected a wider shift we’re seeing across the travel sector - a renewed confidence and a desire to plan meaningful trips.
From long-haul adventures and cruises to family holidays closer to home, there was a clear sense that people are ready to travel again - and to do so with purpose.

Expert insight remains invaluable
A key strength of the exhibition was the opportunity for visitors to speak directly with knowledgeable travel professionals. In an era dominated by online booking platforms, that personal interaction still holds real value.
The programme of talks proved particularly popular, with audiences of around 60 to 70 people per session. Covering everything from cruise insights to destination highlights, they provided practical guidance and helped turn ideas into realistic plans.
A memorable cultural moment
Adding a distinctive local dimension, the Cowbridge Male Voice Choir delivered a live performance that resonated throughout the venue.
Their rendition of Calon Lân created a powerful shared moment - a reminder that travel is not just about where we go, but the connections we make along the way.
From inspiration to action
By the end of the day, visitors left with more than just brochures. Conversations had turned into plans, and plans into potential bookings.
Events like this serve a clear purpose within the travel landscape – bridging the gap between inspiration and commitment.
A well-executed event
Credit goes to Sam Smith Travel and, in particular, Suzanne Cumpston and her team for delivering a wellorganised and engaging exhibition. The tone was welcoming, the logistics seamless, and the focus firmly on helping people move forward with confidence.
Why events like this matter
In a digital-first world, the success of this exhibition highlights the enduring importance of face-to-face engagement. For many travellers, the reassurance of expert advice remains a decisive factor.
It’s a reminder that while technology may streamline booking, it doesn’t replace experience.
Planning your next trip?
Whether you attended the exhibition or not, the message is clear – now is the time to start planning. With the right guidance, the journey from idea to itinerary becomes far more rewarding.
While comparison sites and booking platforms are useful tools, they rarely replace real-world experience.
A good travel specialist can flag hidden costs, recommend better routes, and tailor a trip around your priorities –often saving both time and money in the process.

PENARTH
An evening with Steve Gallant in aid of Woody’s Lodge
There’s something quietly special about an evening that lingers long after the chairs have been stacked and the lights dimmed. That was certainly the case at Penarth Yacht Club this April, where guests gathered for an unforgettable talk by Steve Gallant - and left with far more than they expected.
From the outset, there was a sense this would be no ordinary event. Gallant’s story, already widely recognised, unfolded in a way that felt deeply personal and disarmingly honest. Speaking candidly about his journey from prison to public recognition, he offered a raw, unfiltered insight into resilience, trauma, and the complex road toward change. It was the kind of storytelling that demands attention - not through spectacle, but through sincerity.
What made the evening particularly powerful was the balance Steve struck. While the subject matter touched on difficult themes - life inside the prison system, the influence of extremist networks, and the realities of rehabilitation - there were also moments of unexpected humour and humanity. This interplay created an atmosphere that was both thoughtprovoking and surprisingly uplifting.
It’s fair to say the audience was completely engaged. We thoroughly enjoyed the event, and judging by the number of thoughtful, probing questions that followed, so did everyone else in the room. The discussion that unfolded after the talk was a testament to its impact, with attendees eager to explore the ideas and experiences Gallant had shared.
Beyond the storytelling, the evening carried an even deeper purpose. All proceeds were in aid of Woody's Lodge, a Wales-based charity dedicated to supporting veterans, emergency service personnel, and their families. Providing a safe, welcoming environment for those dealing with trauma, mental health challenges, and the lasting effects of service, Woody’s Lodge ensures that no one faces these challenges alone.
Woody’s Lodge is based at Amelia Trust Farm, Five Mile Ln, Barry CF62 3AS. Those wishing to learn more, access support, or contribute to their work can visit their website at www.woodyslodge. org or make enquiries via email at info@woodyslodge.org.
For those inspired by the evening and keen to explore the story further, Steve Gallant’s book, The Road to London Bridge, is available through Amazon. The memoir expands on many of the themes touched on during the talk, offering a deeper look at his experiences, reflections, and the journey that has brought him to where he is today.
Events like this highlight the power of coming together - not just to listen, but to understand and to support. In a world often dominated by fleeting headlines, this was an evening that encouraged reflection and meaningful conversation.
For those who attended, it was more than just a talk. It was a shared experience - very thought provoking - one that will stay with us for a long time to come.

We’re delighted to share that Travel Life, Vale Life’s sister magazine, has been ranked No.3 in the UK in Feedspot’s ‘Top 20 UK Travel Magazines in 2026’ list.
T RAVEL L IFE IS F LYING H IGH
Feedspot’s list recognises travel magazines based on editorial quality, consistency and relevance, placing Travel Life alongside some of the UK’s most well-established travel titles (No.1 has been established twenty years!).
What makes the recognition particularly meaningful is that Travel Life has been publishing for less than eighteen months. To be placed third nationally - ahead of many long-running publications - is a real encouragement for a magazine still very much in its early chapters.
From the outset, we set out to tell travel stories properly - with care, depth and a genuine sense of place. To see the magazine recognised so early on, and alongside long-established titles, is hugely encouraging and reflects the quality of the contributors and destinations we’ve been fortunate to work with.
Feedspot curates and ranks digital magazines and publications from around the world, with its lists widely used by readers, PR professionals, tourism boards and brands seeking authoritative voices within specific sectors.
Since launch, Travel Life has focused on thoughtful travel journalism, destination-led storytelling and wellresearched features, with an emphasis on places, people and experiences rather than passing trends.
When we started Travel Life, the aim was to create a magazine that felt considered and timeless rather than transactional. This recognition suggests we’re on the right path, and we’re grateful to everyone who has supported the magazine so far.
As Travel Life continues to grow across both print and digital, we remain committed to producing high-quality travel content that informs, inspires and rewards time spent reading.
The journey’s only beginningwe have some exciting developments to announce later this year. Watch this space!
