Here at Good Good Good, we share real, messy hope. Not feel good news, but real good news. There is plenty of bad news in the world. We acknowledge that. Even further, we think it’s essential to know and, yes, even share the bad news. Why? Because the first step in solving any problem is having an informed, comprehensive, rooted-in-reality understanding of the problem.

You've heard it before: Ignorance is bliss.

Feel good news is bliss. Turning a blind eye is bliss. But what we’re after isn't bliss — it's hope. Down in the trenches, getting your hands dirty, making a difference, willing-to-stand-by-you-even-while-it-hurts hope. Some news is scary and dark. But the story doesn’t end there — it never does.

One of our favorite people is Fred Rogers, the beloved children’s TV host. He said that when he was young and would see scary things in the news, his mother would tell him to look for the helpers because you'll always find people who are helping.

We love that. It’s what we do here at Good Good Good: look for the helpers. For this issue, we looked for people doing good work in dark places, people who generously and selflessly give of themselves to find creative solutions to problems in their communities and around the globe through their organizing, advocating, and innovating.
