The continued success of the Appeal is a fantastic testament to the unwavering support of our Principal Partners, the Herald Sun and Channel Seven.

Since 1931, HWT journalists have been telling stories of inspiration and courage and we are grateful to the Herald Sun, The Weekly Times and the Geelong Advertiser for their unwavering support and commitment to the Good Friday Appeal.

In 2023, the Herald Sun, The Geelong Advertiser, and The Weekly Times continued to share inspirational patient stories and impactful fundraising initiatives in print and in digital.

Herald Sun journalist, Sarah Booth and photographer, Mark Stewart, were embedded at the Hospital for 6 weeks to capture the real life experiences of patients and their families, and to share how funded projects by the Appeal over the years have been transforming lives.

The Herald Sun/Transurban Run for the Kids, Victoria’s largest fun run, brings the community together and raised an incredible $1 million this year, contributing to the $21.6 million raised since its inception in 2006. Thanks also to the Herald Sun for sponsoring the performance stage at Kids Day Out this year, providing entertainment throughout the day.

In 2023, Channel Seven’s Telethon was destination viewing on Good Friday marking the 66th year of broadcasting the event and the 35th year of news anchor Peter Mitchell hosting the telethon. This year, the GFA were proud to announce both Peter and Rebecca Maddern as official Ambassadors of the Appeal.

From early morning on Sunrise to the afternoon telecast and the evening show, Channel Seven’s stars banded together to raise crucial funds and highlight the impact of the community’s support. Kochie and Nat and stars from Home and Away visited the RCH on the day, meeting some of the kids and their families.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the entire team at Channel Seven including evening show host Larry Emdur who visited regional Victoria in the lead up to the Appeal, Emma Vosti and Mark Beretta on the Country Board, hosts Jane Bunn, Hamish McLachlan and Mike Amor and Paul Dowsley in the phone room, for their inspiring efforts. Thank you also to NEP studios for supporting the broadcast again this year.
