PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE Dear Gonzaga Community,

O

n behalf of the faculty, staff, and administration, it is my pleasure to welcome our students, parents, alumni, devoted fans, and visitors to Eye Street for today’s Senior Day celebration!

Today, we pay special tribute to our 22 members of the Class of 2027 who will take the turf on Buchanan Field for their final regular-season home game. Nineteen of these seniors have proudly worn the purple helmet for all four years of their high school careers. Their dedication, leadership, and unwavering commitment to our football program is greatly respected.

“Their dedication, leadership, and unwavering commitment to our football program is greatly respected.”

I encourage you to explore the “By the Numbers” feature in today’s program, which highlights the extraordinary achievements of this senior class off the field. Carrying a 3.77 cumulative GPA and having completed 103 Advanced Placement courses, these student-athletes embody the Grad at Grad ideals of being “Open to Growth” and “Intellectually Competent”—striving for excellence in the classroom just as passionately as they do on the gridiron. I also invite you to read Bradley Todd’s feature article which powerfully captures the resilience, unselfishness, and brotherhood that define this team. From summer workouts and Mercersburg bonfires to navigating the renovation of Buchanan Field, these young men have forged an unbreakable bond. As the Eagles take the field today, may God bless them with strength, courage, and sportsmanship. Thank you for your continued prayers and support of Gonzaga College High School. Enjoy the game and as always—Go Eagles! Sincerely, Fr. Joseph E. Lingan, SJ ‘75 President

A Journey of Brotherhood Bradley Todd (P ‘28) shares the Class of 2027’s Eye Street football journey through player reflections and insights from Head Coach Randy Trivers.

The unique gridiron brotherhood built through the Gonzaga Football experience doesn’t depend on having the most hyped athletes. Instead, it relies on developing players who will run through a wall for each other. “This senior class exemplifies that growth,” said head Coach Randy Trivers. “It’s a bond formed through a lot of time together.” Spending time together is what this senior class remembers most, with 19 of the 22 seniors wearing the purple helmet all four years. As part of the football program, every member of the Class of 2027 has lived, studied, eaten, and prayed with teammates from all backgrounds. When reflecting on their favorite memories, the players pointed to the annual six-day training camp at Mercersburg Academy, trips to Richmond and Philadelphia, and off-field bonding at 7-on-7 tournaments in Pittsburgh. “With everything that we do, the overarching goal is for the young men to practice simply loving each other while working through challenges that ultimately help them become comfortable being uncomfortable — individually and as a group,” Trivers said. As they stay with the program, their main desire is simply to be together. Over the summer, running back Asheton Burton took the offensive line on a fishing trip, while others organized hangouts after workouts. In August, the senior kickoff brunch set the tone for the season. Between cornhole, beach volleyball, basketball, pizza, Italian ice, and the traditional draft to select their accountabilityfocused “Scholar Baller” intra-team groups, the guys simply enjoyed an afternoon together before embarking on the journey of the 2026 season. The kickoff Mass at St. Al’s was a great moment of prayer and togetherness, while the bonfire to wrap up their final camp at Mercersburg served as an important moment of reflection for the group. “Everybody loves to play the games on Friday nights, but the teams that have the real stuff are committed to each other outside of competition,” Trivers said. gonzaga.org/football

The mid-season Senior Feast during October’s bye week strengthened their connection. “It was a chance to reflect on where we’ve been and where we’re going,” Coach T said. The feast prepared the team for rival Good Counsel, leading to a 21-3 victory on October 23—Gonzaga’s third consecutive win over the Falcons since 2025. Locker room celebrations from last week’s game, the Reyda Stadium dedication win from a year ago, and last year’s WCAC semifinal victory rank high among the class’s favorite memories. Heading into their final regular-season home game on Buchanan Field, the Eagles feel that the summer facility disruption—field turf and purple track installation—only brought them closer. Daily bus rides to Rosedale Recreation Center echoed the 2015 DCSAA Championship team, which also practiced offsite during the campus parking garage and the pedestrian-only Eye Street construction. “It was a well-captained, well-led team that loved each other,” Trivers recalls, noting that Special Teams Coach Matthew Mulligan ’16 was a senior standout, and Cornerbacks Coach Jason Labbe II ’18 was a key young leader. “In 2015, heading into our game against the Stags, we were a surprising 6-0. So was DeMatha, which had eight of the top 300 players in the country and was ranked No. 1 in the nation,” Trivers remembered. On live TV, DeMatha opened with a 92-yard touchdownrun. Facing a 4th-and-1 deep in their own territory shortly after, Trivers trusted his team’s grit and went for it. “We got it, scored 24 unanswered points to win, and went on to win that game and the DC Championship at the end of the season.” “Similar to that team from eleven years ago, our 2026 team is very resilient and unselfish,” Trivers said. “And that starts with our seniors who love Gonzaga and each other. They are not done yet and are committed to laying it on the line for their brothers — past, present, and future — every day.” GONZAGA EAGLES
